Attended for a wedding and was impressed. Rooms felt more like a bedroom at home than a hotel. Lovely breakfast too. Room was on the roadside but no traffic noise.

We stayed in the older annexe of the hotel and were unfortunately quite disappointed. The curtains were hanging partly off the curtain rail, the mattresses felt very worn and uncomfortable, and there were hairs left in the bathroom sink. At breakfast, coffee and tea were served from vacuum flasks rather than freshly prepared, and nobody asked whether we would like a refill. More generally, the service felt rather impersonal. At no point during our stay were we asked whether everything was all right or how we had enjoyed our stay. Overall, the hotel did not live up to our expectations and, in our view, was not worth the price we paid.

Overall it was a good experience: staff, value, ambience and food. Some elements were disappointing - toothpaste on a clean(?) towel, blood specks on a pillow. And I had requested a quiet room which was acknowledged prior to my visit. I was given a room over the bar courtyard - music played under my window until I requested it was switched off at 9pm up to which time no one had used the courtyard due to the cool weather. Thankfully it wasn't in the heat of summer. And sadly the modern hotel construction meant the room above picked up all noise from movements. I didn't think that a bit of extra thought would have put me in a room that would have offered a more quiet environment which it clearly wasn't, showing either wilful disregard for my request or no thought it through. Did I complain? Did I need to. The damage had been done.
