Hunters Lodge Inn

We had a lovely 2 night stay while visiting Longleat wildlife park. We were a family of 3 and the room was very spacious, a little tired but very functional. The bathroom was lovely and the shower had great pressure. The breakfast was great as were the evening meals and staff. There was also a big outside space with a lovely big play area for the kids.

Happy with free Wifi and parking. Breakfast was cooked to order and also tasty. Would recommend.

The staff are lovely, there is a lot of food choices and unlimited breakfast and carvery. Rooms are quite basic but functional. Duvet was quite thin. Kids love the great outside area. Only problem with our stay was two of family got nasty splinters from the benches outside and the benches were wobbly so one of the staff spilt drink all over a couple of my family.

In all very good, but if there for business and need WiFi/internet access don’t bother. This is my only complaint, no phone signal (Vodafone) and no WiFi I was able to connect to either with MacBook or iPhone. Room was great, breakfast was also good, but for work I’d have to stay elsewhere unfortunately as I quite like this place.

Great value for money, clean and tidy. Staff are friendly, beds are comfy and the facilities outdoors are brilliant. WIFI is super good unlike most free WIFI at hotels. Would recommend and would definitely stay again.

What a find. We were travelling from home to our holiday and spent one night here, the rooms were very clean and comfortable with all the facilities you need. The play area is a wonderful idea and our Grandson loved it while we sat and had a well earned drink. We had great food in the evening with good service and they also have a great looking carvery which proved very popular. Great breakfast buffet with large selection to help yourself to. Definitely will be back. Thank you.

Everyone was welcoming and friendly, with very well trained staff throughout. For a one night stay with smallish children it was perfect, both room and menu, and even down to the little booklet to keep young ones occupied. Oh, and great beer too. Oh, and an EV charging point. Overall a very well designed offer, well delivered. Excellent.

A very friendly pub and looked like the locals enjoy it too. The staff were lovely and efficient. A little “worn” but very clean, a hot shower and a big comfortable bed. The food and wine were nice too. There was nice sounding live music outside but the weather wasn’t very warm so I skipped it. Perfect stop over for me which I’m hoping to repeat.

The accommodation is very basic. Check in was very matter of fact & we were not offered any assistance. The rooms are old and musty and in average or below average state of repair. On the plus side the room was large and the shower was very good.

Staff extremely pleasant & helpful. Spacious room with tea, coffee, biscuits, hairdryer, iron, ironing board & bottles of water. Bedding nice &. Clean. Food very good. Restaurant & bar area comfortable & attractive & clean toilets. However, lots of tables in garden were left for at least a couple of hours, full of plates containing leftover food & drinks to attract wasps. Unable to use several outside tables as too full of crockery & glasses which you wouldn’t want to move yourself without any latex gloves! Ground looked like it hadn’t been swept for a few days - even the undercover areas had quite a bit of litter, cigarette butts etc. Unsure why they don’t employ someone purely to clear up outside, especially at weekends & on days they know they’ll be snowed under. A teenager, or even someone like myself in my mid-60s who just wants a job which isn’t too taxing for the brain would be very happy to do this for a few extra pounds a week! It really would make all the difference as first impressions go a very long way. We noticed a very “fusty” smell in our room & in corridor leading to it. Skirting boards in our room were also thick with dust. Had our window open from arrival to departure to try & get rid of smell. I also noticed some kind of white, plastic object just an inch or so under the bed suggesting it hadn’t been vacuumed properly. Maybe very short-staffed, or not allowing housekeeping staff enough time to clean each room?? Bathroom was clean however.

It was a lovely stay in a large family room with plenty of room for 4 of us. It had everything we needed. Lovely comfortable clean beds, and a very large bathroom with double sink and bath with shower over. The food was good and the staff friendly and polite. One star off for cleanliness as there were a lot of cobwebs especially in the restaurant. Everything else was very clean. If the weather had been better my boys would have loved exploring the grounds and play area too it looked really good.

Excellent stay, clean, comfy and spacious room. Friendly and helpful staff. Food quality was very good and the buffet breakfast amazing. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

What a gorgeous place, booked 2 nights. The staff food establishment, utterly tip top. We checked out a day early though. You can’t control the temperature of your rooms. We had the Somerset suite it was so hot like mid summer with no air conditioning. We didn’t sleep well, the next days activity at longleat Safari we didn’t make pre booked tickets down the pan. We were all so tired we headed home. We couldn’t understand why our room was so hot the radiators were cold we had the window open all night in February, my wife, my son couldn’t sleep with the quilts over us. But that aside it was a gorgeous place, I don’t like to complain so we just checked out without saying anything. Maybe they might pick this review up and add some sort of temperature control, it was way to hot for us.

Everything was brilliant. We stayed in a family Somerset suite and it has a bright green exit light near door and it kept me up all night as the bed is next to it. Apart from this, everything was great.

Overall a pleasant stay at the hunters lodge , the staff were very pleasant , our room was spacious although a little tired had all the amenities

Good stay and the staff were very good and helpfull. But the rooms need a bit of a refurbishment.

Food was good people friendly. Down side pillows on bed were flat and uncomfortable. Bed slightly hard but apart from that all good 👍

Such friendly and helpful staff. I m lactose intolerant and they went to, lot of trouble to help choose the right meal. Amazingly reasonable prices for food and drink

Wonderful Easter weekend. Lovely room, very tasty, reasonably priced food. The staff were brilliant as I have a phobia with lot's of people and they made sure we had a corner or out of the way table. Will definitely be returning again. Very relaxing

I stayed at the Hunters for one night on my way somewhere. I picked one of the smaller rooms & it was ok, clean and comfortable. The best things about the hunters though are the pub itself and the staff. The pub and dining room just ooze character and charm, a wonderful place. Breakfast buffet was spectacular and included in the price. Greatest of all was the staff, without exception they were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would stay here again.

The positives - great staff in the restaurant who were very friendly and accommodating. Brilliant park for the children. Food very good quality and reasonably priced. Family room very spacious and clean. The negatives - the 2 single beds were rock hard which resulted in our 2 children hardly sleeping. After the first night I asked if they could perhaps put a quilt or something under the sheet to make it softer and they said they would. But they didn’t. When we checked out I spoke to a blonde lady behind the bar and gave her our key. She grunted at me and was so rude. Didn’t ask how our stay was or say thank you for the key. Just snarled at me.

Everything about our stay here was fantastic. The staff were friendly, dinner and desserts were delicious, the included breakfast was the best we’ve had so far in England, the room was spacious and the tub was wonderful after a full day of walking. Fairly priced and just 8 minutes to the Stourhead Gardens.

Fabulous location and atmosphere

This was our third stay at Hunters Lodge. It is ideally located for days out with the family, the staff were friendly as usual and the food great, as usual.

We picked Hunter's lodge as we wanted to visit several historical sites in the area, we were so glad we did! it was perfect! The room was very comfortable and quieter than expected being near the main road, had a great night's sleep, probably helped by the delicious meals we had, all home cooked to perfect, the Lasagne being the best I've ever had! The staff were really friendly and made us very welcome, I came home completely refreshed, and would happily come back for another break. Big thumbs up! Thank you all x

Arrived late evening just in time for delicious meal of fresh salad starter followed by beef stroganoff, excellently presented, served, and was delicious. Room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and early morning shower was the best power shower I've experienced, an excellent start to the day, followed by an well presented and deliciously cooked full English breakfast. Couldn't ask for more!!

Could not understand why my burger was placed on a napkin on the plate. - it would be impossible to pick up and eat because it was too big and cutting the burger meant also cutting the napkin!

So glad we found this place to stay, great value. Our room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay, tea,coffee,bottled water and biscuits. Every member of staff we met was cheerful and friendly and service in restaurant and bar very efficient. Breakfast with choice days and there is a buffet at the weekend. We ate in the restaurant two evenings, good value and lots of choice. Home made tasty food. On Friday there was also a carvery and pie night. In the grounds there is a great children’s play park, we didn’t need that but it looked great for families. We will definitely stop here again for a meal when travelling that way or for a stay. Just off of A303.

The staff were all really pleasant and welcoming. The carvery was the best we have ever had, as was the pavlova. The breakfast was also brilliant - well cooked, hot and plentiful.
