De Vere Latimer Estate

A lovely sprawled out estate with plenty of amenities. The room was very nice with 2 fridges which was a bonus. It was tastefully decorated and pleasant to be in. I used the gym for a decent workout and had a great shower afterwards. Breakfast was a delicious buffet with lots of options available. Parking was ample. The stay provided great value for money with this being the second De Vere hotel I have stayed at.

Really lovely old hotel, with a wonderful history if you’re interested in spy’s and the world wars. Food and decoration is great and the luxury wash products make everything smell wonderful. Open kitchen, a breakfast that’s worth the whole stay. The roads in are difficult if you don’t usually drive single tracks so opt to go in and out towards Milton Keynes as they are slightly easier to navigate or better for expensive cars and wheels. Check your route first as it was about 2 miles of single track roads. Well worth the stay swimming pool was brilliantly maintained and very clean. Sauna and spa were set at a good temperature and again very clean.

Room was like a youth hostel, tiny, sweltering and walls were paper thin (we were woken up by next rooms alarm clock). We booked breakfast but it was chaos, in the end we managed to find a table but had to clean the table and get our own cutlery and cups. The small number of staff were difficult to get hold of. I mentioned this when checking out and was told the duty manager would contact me; they didn't. The pool area was nice albeit steam room and jacuzzi were closed...

Some gym items broken…rowing machine and lack of free weights

Receptionist not overly frienfly but efficient. Room was lovely in Old House. 4 out of 5 pumps at the bar werent working!! Surely someone can change s barrel?? Breakfast was good.

The location and grounds were very nice, the hotel itself has lots of character and we were made to feel comfortable. sadly the leisure facility was not very good, changing area was very dirty, lots of equipment not working so I suggest do not book if you were considering on the basis of the leisure facilities alone, if you like walking the grounds are perfect for that. Breakfast sadly was a little dis-organised, but acceptable.

First rate. Lovely well-kept grounds, smart functional clean room, friendly staff, great spa/pool. Suited my stay for work perfectly.

Beautiful country stay. Only thing I can fault is the place feeling a little understaffed when it’s busy. Everything was running out at breakfast because of a hungry wedding party and big queues at the bar the night before. Quality is on point though.

We loved the history of the property and the amenity of the swimming pool was huge bonus for me and my son. We loved walking the grounds of the property and seeing all of the gardening and the trees. A beautiful quiet location with lots to explore. The breakfast was filling and can’t wait to return one day. I feel like this location would benefit from a day spa.

Lovely little place; great value for the room and facilities. And a short taxi into Chesham or Amersham.

We were in a room that at first looked fine, but without heating. I really wanted to get the hot towel rail working in the bathroom but that didn’t work. I wanted to have a bath but after seeing hairs around the bath I decided to shower.

Was a small but functional room I stayed in. Was clean and tidy. Breakfast was great with a good variety of items. The only minor issue was the bath panel had some water damage and really needs replacing.

We initially had a 2 night stay in a suite that overlooked the countryside but added an extra night where we stayed in a Delux room. Both rooms were clean and tidy and the beds were very comfortable. The only thing that i could identify in both rooms as being a bit tired was the wooden bath sides both if which were blown and could have done with being replaced. The main restaurant was spacious and modern. Breakfast offered a full range of products that satisfied all appetites. There was a swimming pool on site which unfortunately we could not use due to us being to busy. All in all a lovely hotel in an excellent location.

I booked a “Superior Twin Room” at Latimer Estate for my mother-in-law’s 70th, expecting something special. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the name. The room was outside the main estate (not made clear at booking) with a lovely view of... a rooftop. The beds were two singles pushed together then hastily separated. The mattress hadn’t been rotated in months (thanks to the sticker I spotted at 4 AM while failing to sleep). No air con—just a small fan pushing around warm air—and a thick winter duvet made it unbearably stuffy. Cleanliness? Awful. We found a urine-stained duvet and a mouldy bathroom bin. That alone was enough to put us off, but by night two we were too tired to leave, so we tried the bar food. Sadly, that too was underwhelming—limited options and bland. Staff were polite, but the overall experience felt more like a budget motel than a relaxing break. Wouldn’t return or recommend unless serious improvements are made.

We had the pleasure of staying here for a family wedding. Check in was straightforward, friendly and helpful staff as well. The hotel room was very clean and quiet, the only downside is the creaking floorboards, but the beds were super comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and love the fact that there is a restaurant and bar on the premises with a spacious breakfast area as well.

Had a lovely stay while on a work training course at this really lovely hotel. Clean room, yummy breakfast and gorgeous surroundings.

the estate is stunning however we had rooms in the mews block, more like an office annex. 33.5 degrees room was like a sweat box. Good job the shower was powerful...

The site is beautiful. We checked in, however not much information was shared regarding breakfast or restaurant. The fan in the room on a hot day was broken, however reception arranged a replacement promptly. Unfortunately we weren’t informed that there will be loud music playing under our bedroom due to a wedding until 1am on a Sunday night so our sleep was disturbed until then!

An earlier review had mentioned that there seemed to be little difference between standard and superior rooms. My room was in an adjacent building about 100yds from the main reception. The common areas were rather unprepossessing and the bar not staffed. The room itself was fine, if not well ventilated. No air conditioning and I had to ask for a fan which was supplied. On the ground floor the room had a door opening on to a small space behind the building. Interestingly the door had no lock, just a very weak chain keeping it ‘secure’. The walk to the restaurant and bar (in the old, original, building) was quite lengthy, so not great if one has limited mobility. This building was really rather lovely, especially the lounge next to the bar. Great views and a very grand appearance. The dinner menu in the restaurant was limited, so I ordered something simple from the bar. All was satisfactory. I walked back to the room through the grounds. These may once have been well tended, but are now somewhat scruffy, which is a shame. Should I return, I will book a room in the old building, which would negate the need to shuffle to and fro from the block I was in. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Placed in a the conference block at the other side of the complex, no air conditioning and a very small room. I had to open the windows to cool the room but that just made it very noisy

The difference between a de-luxe room and standard seemed to only amount to the number of cushions on the bed. I have stayed here many times but normally in a standard room, this time I used a deluxe and that seemed to be the only difference. The bathroom was also tiny and needed some upgrades as it appeared to have quite some water damage on the bath panel

The staff make the place

The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was really helpful and take care of my allergic condition which was serious and I didn’t expect that I would find something to eat at the beginning. It was a lovely dinner that thanks to the chef and staffs. They are really excellent. The restaurant is cosy, and welcoming.

Heaps of history in a beautiful setting, the staff really make the hotel special and it is clear a lot of thought has gone into selecting them.

From only providing one towel and cup in the room, to having the window blind cable tied up because it didn’t work, this hotel does not live up to its images. It took 24 hours to receive a second towel, but the safe was never fixed. No response to messages through the app, reception never answered the phone and the pointless room phone had no operator number. The rooms in the red building are extremely hot, the heat in the glass reception space is overbearing. One thing to note when requesting a room is that some of the rooms have a fire escape running alongside them. Early in the morning at approx 6.30am we experienced a man walking past and he could see straight into one of the rooms, this was really quite unacceptable. The other room also had no working safe, only one towel, cup etc but it’s blind was working, but its shower was leaking. Also noted was the 4 spiders that appear to be living rent free in our room! If you are staying in hot weather, please prepare yourself. Only one small deck top fan was provided, completely inadequate. Breakfast was good, parking adequate, the drinks in the chiller in reception are crazy. £7 for a standard bottle of beer.

I stay in a hotel on average once a week so would suggest I’m a frequent traveler. I have never experienced such awful service where I felt intimidated by the staff. The duty manager who dealt with the numerous issues I encountered fairly well the next day but nonetheless it was an horrendous stay.

If staying as part of a conference/event group, I’m sure it would meet expectations. But staying independently, it disappointed. Arrived with several bags. My room was almost as far from reception as it could be, down a long corridor with flights of steps, then up stairs. No offer of help; not even told where the lift was. Overall sense that the staff felt they were doing me a favour by letting me stay there (a smile costs nothing, guys), the restaurant team seemed disinterested. The room itself was a paid-for upgrade, on which basis I’m glad I didn’t stay in the original one. It did have a window, though - just not a very big one (see photo). Conference attendees don’t have a choice. Independent travellers do - I suspect the operation is not geared to the latter.

Rooms were miles away from the main building (got soaked in the rain getting to the room). Service in the restaurant was dreadful. I was eating alone, the restaurant was pretty empty, however it took 20 minutes just to place my order - staff kept ignoring me. I was offered some water for the table - then charged £5 for this - it was just added to my bill!! I had scampi and cold chips with a flat pint of lager which cost £34 in total and took 1 hour. Rooms were clean and tidy and reception staff were friendly. Just steer clear of the restaurant.

We had 2 nights staying for a wedding, the house itself is in a lovely position looking over the Chessvale so a great view, due to the very warm weather the grass outside was parched so Im guessing with a bit of rain it would look lovely, the staff were amazing and friendly, its certainly not cheap for food and drink comparable to central London prices l’d guess, the wedding breakfast was top notch, again staff were amazing. The few downsides is we booked 2 rooms with breakfast and when we arrived we were told breakfast hadn't been requested which it was as we went there and booked it several months beforehand, the rooms we had were right at the front and it was very noisy with shouting and revving motor cycles, it made it worse as there was really hot and no air conditioning so we couldn't close the windows. We also couldn’t keep the sash windows open so had to use a book to wedge it, open, the fridge was warm and only one bedside light worked. The breakfast in the conservatory was excellent with a great choice of continental cold and warm food a range of coffees so all in all catered for all tastes. The main thing that ruined for us is over the 2 nights we stayed the fire alarm went off 3 times in the middle of the night for no particular reason which messed up our much needed sleep, otherwise a great stay.

My stay was comfortable.The internal movement from the room to restaurant or bar is not very clear.Also the hotel sign is not there on the main road. It would help. Overall the hotel is good.

We were only staying one night. Arriving late in the dark. Signage was poor and bright light was shining down the drive making it difficult to see signage. It took a long time to find Reception. Next morning there was no hot water after running the shower for at least 10 minutes. Receptionist said she would advise maintenance that doesnt help us.I think some training on managing customer issues.I am writing to the hotel manager and Regional Director to ask for refund or offer to stay again.

Just a 1 night stay over for work, property met all expectations, one moan no hot water for shower when checked in room at night time....and same again at 6am so 2 freezing cold showers which was disappointing. Bar ran out of basic draught drinks and food very average...but staff in bar excellent especially June

Lovely hotel with a stately home feel. Stayed for 3 nights whilst working in Chesham and ate in the restaurant each night. The menu is very good although quiet pricey, however there is a bar area with separate menu which is also very good.

The first day at breakfast I had to clear our table to be able to sit down then all the food had run out including the Cooked breakfast which then we had to wait 10 minutes for any cooked breakfast to be cooked l had to hunt for cutlery couldn’t find a tea pot staff seemed to be running around they didn’t seem to know what was going on our first night at 2am in the morning the room opposite us were banging on the door to get into their room which continued for an hour until a staff member came to let them in. Our room seemed smaller than the one we booked it was compact and I was just not impressed

A one night stay following landing a Heathrow, great room and really modern. Bed was comfy, rooms are a little small but did the trick for what we needed. Only disappointment was the breakfast (for a few) most of the items had run out well before the end of the breakfast period, no bacon or hash browns and when the staff did cook additional items it was very limited and went before you could get to it - quite poor considering it was an additional charge
