The Midland

Scaffolding & noisy ongoing work spoilt the occasion to which we treated ourselves on this relatively expensive stay. If we had known about the intrusive work or been informed about it we would have either rescheduled our stay, not booked it or gone elsewhere. A lovely hotel, but our visit and at breakfast looking through scaffolding was not what I paid for

Lovely property with onsite parking, well positioned with beautiful views of the sea. Staff friendly and helpful, although some could be better presented. Would certainly stay again

RIP The Midland Hotel. This hotel used to be smart, stylish and elegant. It is now in a poor state of repair, there is no proper reception desk and now looks cheap. The once stylish dining room is now filled with mismatched pub style tables and chairs. It feels more like a Wetherspoons than a stylish dining room. Cheap tables and chairs are on the lawn outside. One of these tables was occupied by a man who could barely walk as he was so drunk. He staggered past us in the restaurant, sat down outside, dropped his phone then urinated on himself, the grass and his phone. The food in the restaurant was nice but not the same standard it used to be. Very expensive given the pub style feel. Cheap looking chairs and tacky barrel style tables outside the rotunda bar. We didn’t bother going in the bar and we didn’t stay for breakfast, we didn’t want any more disappointment. It looks as if the windows haven’t been cleaned for months, the whole exterior needs painting, there is damaged render in numerous places and large chunks of broken plaster dumped on a balcony. This is a listed building but it appears the new owners don’t care about that and they are just trading off the former glory and reputation of the Midland. The new owners should be ashamed of themselves. We heard a number of people commenting on how the hotel has been ruined. My husband and I have visited this hotel so many times and it has been fabulous every time, until now. I’m very sad to say we won’t be going back

Had a great stay, was weary about it being dog friendly as wife and i have allergies and no pets of our own. We informed hotel and they could not have been any more helpful, the room we had was excellent.

Quirky hotel that deserves to be fabulous. Food and bar area, both excellent. Views amazing. Needs a bit of TLC. Completely dog friendly ❤️ Just need the weather to enjoy the walks and beach areas.

Stopover on way back from Scotland in well known art deco hotel in amazing location overlooking Morecambe Bay. Reception part of bar area. Staff gave poor impression. Bar & food area looked uninviting apart from the views. Room quirky at best. Beds not properly made. Views lovely. Breakfast awful. Poor ingredients. Slow service. Not worth the charge.

Very pleasant staff and wonderful views of the bay on the sun terrace. They were short staffed though and that did impact on the service at the bar.

Just sn excellent stay. Brilliant hotel and they accommodated our toy poodle beautifully too. Even gave him a sausage for breakfast.

Underwhelming and disappointing stay. First impressions disappointing as the exterior of the building cracked and stained in many places. Reception experience was pleasant and positive. We’d paid for a balcony room - however the balcony was covered in green slime, while the balcony chairs were filthy. The room itself was a mixed bag. Bed and shower were good, however the furniture was cheap and tacky looking and the upholstered chairs were stained and shabby. The wardrobe was a conundrum with the coat hangers pole about six feet high to reach. Our stay was just about salvaged by very good breakfast before departure. A little TLC could improve The Midland greatly, but at over £200 per room it is relying on its legacy rather than its current quality.

All the Staff was amazing and very helpful. The view of the ocean was beautiful. Lots of options for breakfast and the food was really good. Rooms were really clean and had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The feel is really like going back in time when Hercule Poirot was staying here for his vacation (from the show “Double Sin”). This hotel is highly recommended and will encourage all our family and friends to stay here when vacationing.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Midland. In some respects it is excellent - which it should be for the price really. The staff are brilliant - courteous and helpful. I also very much appreciated what seemed to be an inclusive recruitment policy. It is truly lovely to look out over the bay as you eat. The rooms are attractive but there are issues with the ensuite bathrooms. There is no sound insulation at all - not only between your bedroom and bathroom areas but also between your room and the bathroom above. We heard every flush of the toilet above us and that wasn't great at 4.45 in the morning! The room fridge also makes a loud hum and we had to turn it off to sleep. There is a bath which was a nice surprise but there were no bathrobes. We were told that you have to request them when you make your booking. This isn't stated anywhere so not sure how we would have known to ask. And there is no moveable shower head so you wash your hair every day or wear a single use plastic shower cap. This seemed at odds with being offered a "green deal" of 2 free drinks if we chose not to have room service and clean towels on the second day. I loved this green deal concept. Shame it didn't carry through to other areas. I guess the building is very expensive to upkeep and the over all impression is of art deco beauty, but it is a bit sad in places e.g. lots of condensation running down the windows and shower sealant that could do with a refresh. Iwas hoping for better

It could do with the outside painting it looked quite grey the inside was fabulous it takes you back to a time when elegance was so important for well being we will be returning

Hotel looking a bit tired. Booked a room with balcony overlooking sea. Very large room and some nice features but only a double bed when a king or super king would easily fit. Room tired and dated and no water in room . Also had a huge very noisy party in the bar which the staff managed really well and kept apologising for the noise but the way the hotel is constructed the noise carries up the spiral stairs to the rooms. Staff were fabulous. From the bar staff to the staff in the restaurant at breakfast.

Fantastic location, great staff and good food but the rooms were disappointing. Very warm so we had to have a fan on all the time which competed for noise throughout the night with windows that rattled in the wind.

Great stay and great location just ashame that there is no proper air con apart from a fan. Great stay overall.

I travelled with my two daughters aged 6 and 9. We had a sea view family suite which was lovely but considering I spent £444 for 2 nights I was disappointed the room wasn't perfect as it should be at that price, examples being light not working above bunkbeds, chest of drawers nearly fell on my daughter when she opened two drawers at the same time, curtains not black out and don't fully close together. Can't see TV from the bed properly either even when pulled out and tilted. The hotel also needs a total repaint on the outside. But on the plus side I felt safe staying here and loved the fact it's so close to everything we needed to see, and the beach which my girls spent so much time on. Having a free drink instead of having your room cleaned is a great option, so we took up that option. We loved our breakfasts in the sun terrace overlooking the sea! We spent two nights in the Rotunda Bar with extended family and it had a lovely vibe. I'd love to return again but not at that price!

Rooms were too hot, no effective cooling so sleeping was difficult.

The Midland is SO close to being an absolutely brilliant hotel. And the customer service when you're there (I genuinely wouldn't even bother trying in advance) is absolutely brilliant. It's in a great location, the rooms are quirky and fun and the showers are great. What more could I ask for? 3 small improvements 1. Allergens on food menu (and for what the food is, it's a touch expensive) 2. Earlier breakfasts - considering how many people stay there for work, having 7.30 as the earliest time for breakfast isn't helpful at all 3. Temperature in rooms. I've now stayed in the Midland twice, and on both occasions the rooms have been uncomfortably hot, with no ability to cool them down aside from opening a window by the tiny amount they can actually open (and if you're roadside, you don't want that)

The famed art deco property is set right on the waterfront of Morecambe, a short walk from the train station, and to the promenade of Morecambe. My spacious room faced the water, providing magnificent views of The Bay, including sunsets. My room was overall comfortable, with the exception of a lack of air conditioning, so on sunny afternoons, the windows had to be opened to their maximum, which was mere inches, and the portable room fan put to full use. Hotel staff were cordial and helpful. I enoyed my stay and would recommend.

A great stay at an iconic hotel, small signs of maintenance required but did not detract from the ambiance. We had a superior room with balcony overlooking the sea and oh what a spectacular view and the weather was in blue sky and sunshine mode. The service from checking in, restaurant and check out was warm, friendly and efficient. Well cooked and tasty choices in the menu. Overall a great experience.

Check-in was easy and our room was spacious and well maintained. It’s a great example of Art Deco and worth a stay just to enjoy the design features of a past era.

We really enjoyed our stay - the room was good, clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was lovely, lots of choice and well presented, we ate dinner and breakfast, both very good. The staff were all very helpful and friendly , but one young man, by the name of Joel was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for him, very friendly, pleasant and helpful. In all, a very nice stay.

Very disappointed at the Midland. Scaffolding in place for renovations interrupted the view from our room but we were not told about it and staff said they were told not to inform guests upon booking. We had specifically requested and paid for a sea view room too! The room felt very ‘thrown together’ and not very comfortable. We only had breakfast included in our one night stay and it was good. It was clear that staff were extremely committed to doing their best for the hotel. As renovations are underway, in my opinion it would had been far better to close the place and crack on with the work.

The staff go above and beyond, they are polite, friendly and efficient and obviously very well trained. The food was excellent particularly our delicious breakfast with proper loose leaf tea served in a silver pot with tea strainers for each cup. Our room was really comfortable with a balcony looking out to sea with the Lake District fells in the background. We had such a lovely, relaxing stay and will definitely be back again, hopefully very soon. Highly recommended 👌.

Been staying at the Midland over the years and it is going downhill ever time I go Not enough staff although the staff i saw were working as hard as they could Please try and get back to where you were a few years ago

Loved that the front desk remembered us from our trip two years ago. And they accommodated our request for early check in. The property needs a bit of cosmetic TLC. Otherwise we will return again.

The hotel was booked through hotels.com and when I received the confirmation I was advised that I needed to let them know if I wanted a pet friendly room. I also wanted to book a table for dinner. I therefore tried to ring the hotel no fewer than 8 times that evening and a further 13 times the following morning. Nobody picked up the phone. In frustration I rang the Inn Collection number to complain (this involved 15 minutes of waiting to speak with someone). Eventually somebody did ring me back from the Midland and I was able to make the arrangements. Please understand that I have visited the Midland many times and it is a hotel I am very fond of but really. I note on your review pages that others have been similarly frustrated with nobody answering the phone. You surely appreciate that the phone is for many people their first point of contact. Goodness knows how many customers you have disappointed by not answering calls and indeed how much business you may have lost when people just give up and book a stay somewhere else instead. Please take this feedback as friendly advice and get it sorted.

It’s a tired hotel living off whatever former reputation is used to have. High hotel charges that can not be justified. I feel compelled to write this review as it was such a rubbish experience. The receptionist / staff on duty in the morning at 6am was so unbelievably rude when I simply asked for a cup of coffee before I left the hotel to go to work. I was genuinely shocked at the level of aggression he showed me when I questioned why a hotel that charged me £209 for one night could not provide me with a coffee! He didn’t even care at his poor level of service and laughed it off - he’s a disgrace and never should be working in hospitality. The food is very average pub fare - not hotel Restaurent quality.

Gem of a location, with a view that keeps you looking! We had a balcony room and it's worth the extra £'s. Great base location for exploring locally and around the bay and into the Lake District. The perfect place to come back to when you're walked off your feet. Staff are super friendly and helpful.

Beautiful views and location

The staff were always very friendly and helpful. The room was great and the views are spectacular. Prices for eating are very reasonable. Easy to go for long walks on the promenade or the beaches. Close to other amenities, shops, etc. Surrounded by lovely countryside to go exploring.

Breakfast is rather slow as you have to get your own tea and coffee from quite a distance away from the tables, 1 man was getting 4 teapots very slowly.

Lovely room and view of sea. Staff lovely and very helpful, but allow a bit of time for breakfast as it can take a while for your order to be taken and then delivered. Evening dining - order at the bar. Food very good, breakfast coffee weak, but after commenting was up to strength the following day! Thank you for a very relaxing break!

The room was very nice with a great art deco feel. Breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice. However the restaurant for evening dining for a four star hotel was non exhistent. The food was basic cafe fare at restaurant prices you have to que at the bar to order all food. NO table service and you haVe to carry your own drinks to the table. You cant book a table. It feels a very basic pub not a four star hotel. The inn collection have ruined an amazing art deco luxury hotel.

Very good room with sea view. Food was also very tasty. Only problem is that dining room faces west and isfully glazed from floor to ceiling. As we were lucky to have a cloudless sky (despite a biting cold wind) dining at 6pm meant that the sun was too hot. I think fitted blinds are needed

It’s no longer ‘the place’ to stay in Morecambe. Restaurant serves average pub food; order at the bar, plastic vinegar bottles and cutlery pre-wrapped in napkins in a buckets on bare tables, no table cloth. Understaffed, everything geared to save money. If you want Travelodge experience, it’s fine… cheap and cheerful. Don’t expect to find what it was before take over, very disappointed! All the old, experienced staff gone too. You are dealing with very inexperienced young staff. Will we stay again? certainly not. The Midland was the best thing about Morecambe… sadly no longer that is the case.

Great, helpful staff, but owners need to spend serious £££££ on upgrading and refurbishing this historic building. Food is a bit basic.

The Midland is a beautiful hotel in Morecambe overlooking Morecambe Bay. The hotel has lots of art deco features. The rooms are spacious and very tastefully decorated with lots of hidden items, the kettle and tea etc are to be found in a cupboard which blends in with the walls. The food was excellent. We had dinner and breakfast which had a brilliant choice. Full English or continental and yogurts and fruit etc . Everything was perfect. We will definitely return.

The room was amazing. Don’t bother eating in the restaurant, though. It’s like a pub, but it takes longer to get served I waited for an hour for my drinks in the end. I just had to go to the bar myself. Probably the worst restaurant experience I’ve had.
