Our room was lovely with a hot tub on the terrace. However the terrace needed cleaning and although we mentioned this it didn’t happen. The shower over the bath was difficult to get in & out . Side of bath very high & water was difficult to balance. Again we mentioned this but it stayed the same. When I booked I requested a walk- in shower. I was told I’d need to upgrade& pay more. I was entitled to an upgrade but it didn’t happen. There was a problem on the first morning with breakfast - burnt toast. & overdone eggs. When we told them the hotel were most apologetic & the next day it was perfect. Also they arranged a free boat trip for us. & adjusted our bill so we felt that they had done all they could to rectify the situation . It’s a beautiful hotel & if we hadn’t had the few hiccups it would have been 5 stars all the way. The Spa was excellent.

Our stay at Cliveden House was absolutely wonderful. From start to finish-even withstanding a blip-it was a true joy. Our room was ready early which was a huge bonus and Polly on reception was warm and thorough with our check-in process, explaining and showing us all we needed to know. Our room was great: super comfy bed with options to change pillows, lovely toiletries by Noble Isle, a fab working fire place and yummy complimentary snacks. We had a delicious lunch in the Great Hall, and even though it took longer than ideal, the numerous games available to play kept us amused. The grounds are magnificent and you can walk for hours taking in nature. We were accommodated for dinner in Astor Grill even though we only attempted to reserve a table in the late afternoon. The food, again, was very good as was the service, although one of our dishes was unfortunately forgotten about. We received it promptly once we reminded the staff. Breakfast in the dining room was wonderful, overlooking the pristine lawns and surrounding woodlands. The quality and service was fantastic; no request was too much trouble. The mix of an à la carte menu along with a buffet for continental items was very pleasing and guaranteed hot items were cooked fresh. Eggs royale is not a menu item but the staff member didn’t hesitate to say yes when requested. We were fortunate to get a late check-out, this lent itself to an extended and relaxed time in the superb spa. A stay that left us wanting more!

First overnight trip with our newborn baby (3 months old) to celebrate Mother’s day. Lovely, welcoming, greeting and checked into a fabulous room. However, a few hours into the evening we noticed an electrical beeping noise just outside our room which we knew would keep us (and the baby) up overnight. Front of house staff came to investigate and identified the noise in a small attic space just outside our room and said they would work to fix the problem. In the meantime we went to the Resident’s Lounge for a relaxed dinner. Having ordered our food, I received a call to say the problem could not be repaired but that we would be moved into a new room. I left the restaurant to pack up our stuff so that the staff could move our bags. The food arrived in my absence so my wife asked if it could be delayed until I returned but incredibly rude Resident’s Lounge staff scorned that they had waited as long as they could, sending my wife into tears. Extremely disappointing sequence of events. We raised this with Catherine, the duty manager, who thankfully could not have been more helpful. She took the time to listen, apologise and took the cost of the meal off our bill. She has since e-mailed me to apologise once more and to tell us that she would personally take care of us on any future visit to Cliveden. I am grateful to Catherine but, given the price point, the overall experience was not fitting of such a hotel.
