The Hare & Hounds Hotel

This was a lovely old mansion house with great history and character. Lots of long winding corridors. Lovely rooms to sit in such as the library. Outdoor grounds were pretty and ideal for weddings. Loved the cute Gin Palace van. Dinner in the bar was good overall. Some items pricey for what they were. It was unusual to have a pork chop on a plate, a little piece of Pak Choi and so have to order potatoes. I had the broccoli and quinoa salad which was delicious and so big I couldn’t finish it. Classic room was fine but nothing special. Toiletries were Moulton Brown ones and tea bags were lovely tea pigs, with biscuits and fresh milk. The bed was very comfortable and had a great night’s sleep. The pillows a stuck out of the pillow cases and the pillow protectors had seen better days. Bathroom spacious with plenty of hot water, fluffy towels and robes. Good value for an overnight stay. Breakfast to die for!

The hotel lived up to expectations and the buildings were built of the lovely soft Gloucestershire. It was a shame that the outside seating for the bar like being in a car park and close to the road. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Super convenient for Highgrove Gardens. Staff friendly….especially the young men working behind the bar. Comfortable single rooms with full facilities and parking for all.

Quiet location, friendly staff, food good but needs restaurant menu changing nightly or some specials adding as when your staying for any length it gets a bit boring, also the outside at the side of the restaurant needs a good sweep and tidy up, I sat there one evening watching a mouse playing and looking for something to eat, which it found then popped back into the stone wall, which you expect to find things like that in the country but could put some people off being so near the dining room, but overall we really enjoyed our stay

Staff friendly and helpful. Main building would benefit from lift to first floor bedrooms.

I can’t recommend this hotel enough! Lovely rural location, fantastic hotel and facilities! The friendliest and most helpful of staff! Room was large and comfortable, just like the bed! Everything was clean and tidy. Breakfast was fab but the evening meal was to die for and the best meal I have had in a hotel stay probably ever! This was a business trip, can’t wait to go back and take my wife! Just perfect!

Such a grand place with lovely grounds. We enjoyed our short stay immensely. The room was very spacious and the bed was large and comfortable. We felt like Lord and Lady of the manor!

Nice property. We enjoyed the library and sitting by the fire with a nice drink. The room was spacious but a bit chilly, our friends room just along from us was warmer and slightly better decorated. Our bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a good size shower. We really enjoyed breakfast, lots of choice on the menu and buffet.

Lovely spacious room/suite .. Quiet, great car parking & straight out onto lovely footpaths/countrysde ! Easy reach of Tetbury & Cirencester is within reach .. Highly recommend.

We loved our overnight at the Hare and Hounds. The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast was super. The room was clean and well appointed.

Overall, the hotel is very pleasant and well-presented. However, our room (35) had virtually no water pressure in the shower, which was frankly shocking. It’s difficult to understand how a room in this condition is still being offered to guests in 2025. In contrast, our family’s room had a newly renovated bathroom and functioned perfectly well, so the difference was quite stark. Additionally, although we arrived late, the check-in process was unnecessarily slow. Despite having emailed a month in advance to confirm that we were bringing our dog—and receiving acknowledgment of this—the hotel initially claimed no dog-friendly rooms were available. While they eventually accommodated us, we were told our dog would need to be on her “best behaviour,” which felt unnecessarily pointed given the prior arrangements.

Room had cobwebs by kettle which were awful, room was changed with ease abs service was excellent

We stayed in the Maple room was lovely except Shower pressure was really poor, black mould in the window and on blind not really the right set up for that bathroom hard not to get water all over the window sill

Minor inconvenience with Bathroom Towel rail not operating? Reported but not mended ?

Friendly staff and attractive surroundings were abundant. Unfortunately attention to detail, tired rooms and an obvious lack of training has let this Hotel down. Cleanliness was one of our biggest concerns with dining tables that were not wiped down sufficiently prior to them being laid, our room was grubby with spiders webs dead flies and a dusty beverage holder to mention just a few from a fairly extensive list. We are sure that with the correct training and an inspection of the room prior to releasing it to the visitor, all of these issues could be resolved without breaking the bank.

As ever our stay at the Hare & Hounds was everything it should be - rooms were beautifully clean, reception incredibly helpful , food amazing - our regular go to in the Cotswolds

We were staying as we were attending a wedding at the venue. The bed was very comfortable and we were really impressed with the cleanliness of the room. The products were really luxurious even down to the teas and coffees provided. We have already decided we want to return for our next date night.

A truly enjoyable stay. The room was a decent size and our view over garden was very pleasant. Everything was properly clean and everything worked as it should. Our meal in the bar was nicely presented, tasty and well cooked as was the excellent breakfast. However it is the quality of service that really made our stay memorable. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and provided great service.

Problems with TV spoiled the start of the stay - no standard UK channels available. Receptionist kept referring to us (well into 70´s and on my 80th birthday) as « Guys »….offensive. Failed to correct TV faults. Good bar and restaurant service but drinks prices well over the top. Restaurant front of house and meals first class.

Charming hotel. Every member of staff was delightful. My travelling companion’s room was very pleasant and spacious. My room was extremely small and felt cramped. The bath was extremely slippery, however a slip mat was provided but I think a warning might be a good idea. The food was fabulous. We stayed chatting in the dining room for ages but never once felt hurried. Perfectly placed for visit to Highgrove. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Nice hotel and a great stay for visiting Highgrove but we found the mattresses really hard. I asked for a topper but didn’t make a lot of difference. Good food and pleasant staff.

we had a room that was very near where deliveries were made\ to the hotel and they started at 7 and where v noisy perhaps they could get them later??

Very dog friendly stay with excellent friendly service from all the staff. Made to feel welcome and at home. Food was excellent.

Loved our stay and our room was amazing, we had a superior room in the main house overlooking the garden. The breakfast was also fantastic, we were offered toast when we sat down with all the condiments layed out on the table, also a lovely buffet of continental food was available with fresh pastries and yoghurts etc. we could then order off the breakfast menu which had a great selection and was delicious! The only bad thing was that the staff were a bit all over the place and got muddled up with a few things. The bar staff in Jack Hares pub got our bill confused, we only ordered two drinks but was handed a bill for nearly £50 to sign and then went to give us the receipt for the same bill after we had told them. The Beaufort restaurant was lovely and the food amazing but we did have to send a steak back as we asked for it blue and it came medium-well. When we checked out in the morning our bill was completely wrong, they charged us breakfast but we had already paid for it when booking the room and it was really hard to read it to check everything was right on there. I did pay less than expected but couldn’t work out what was what so they quite possibly they missed a couple of drinks off or maybe we had another bill?! I will say though that the staff were so lovely and helpful and really friendly. Even though a few issues we still had a lovely time and we were lucky that everything was still covered in snow so it was beautiful.

Fabulous hotel with lovely facilities & friendly staff, only spoilt by a couple selfishly rowing loudly in the early hours which disturbed our sleep til 2.30 am! The Manager was very accommodating when we raised the matter in the morning. Hence one star less than a perfect stay,

Wonderful location and very pleasant surroundings. We had an unfortunate accident one morning with a cut that bled badly the staff were brilliant and had everything sorted wih bandages first aid was on offer and a swift clean up. Could not have asked for more.

All the staff are excellent at the Hare and Hounds and we enjoy our stay every time we come, we had breakfast and evening meal and the food is fantastic but this time I have to say that Lucy on reception was above and beyond, she compares to Judy who used to work there, Lucy was very kind and very professional, Hare and Hounds you should be proud of her, thank you Lucy 😊😊

2 night relaxing stay in the Cotswolds. The hotel was quiet on this occasion which meant that I could relax and sit wherever I wanted. I was attending Highgrove for Burns Night, so only being 3 minutes away was a bonus. The only down side was none of the local taxi companies wanted to do a short run even after giving 2 months notice to the hotel. The matter was quickly resolved however purely by chance and I had an enjoyable evening. I stayed in a quiet room overlooking the gardens so no noise form the main road. The hotel was clean with fires lit in the lounge and bar areas.

Great place to stay next to the arboretum, lovely room and tasty breakfast

this hotel has very pretty old buildings and grounds. the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location was great for visiting the surrounding towns in the Cotswold's.

A wonderful hotel perfectly situated in a beautiful part of the world. An excellent room, a varied menu in the bar area (all delicious), superb breakfasts, and friendly, welcoming staff throughout. All in all, the perfect place for us to explore a bit of the Cotswolds on a mini-break, and we'll definitely be back.

Lovely hotel on fab setting.

We stayed at the Hare & Hounds for a live music evening at nearby Westonbirt Arboretum. We booked a table for lunch in the restaurant beforehand which was delicious! The staff in the restaurant were welcoming and very efficient. Our room was beautiful with lovely full size Molten Brown toiletries to use and an excellent coffee machine. Breakfast the next morning was equally good with a plentiful selection. I mislaid an earring whilst I was there and assumed I lost it at the live music event but thought I would check with Reception in case it had been handed in. The staff responded with great efficiency and managed to locate the earring - huge thanks and credit to them! The Hare & Hounds really is a special place to stay in the Cotswolds and is a beautiful building with much character. It is quite remote and taxis are scarce but an absolute treat to visit if you’re aware of these factors.

It's an amazing place, lovely room, could do with upgrading the loo paper. Had some really delicious food in the bar too and breakfast was amazing, best bit of black pudding I've had in ages! All staff were lovely, very professional, would stay again.

We had a lovely stay at The Hare & Hounds. The hotel and grounds are just stunning, the staff are very helpful and friendly, and we had everything we needed. We just feel that the food and drink are quite overpriced. It's a great place for a special occasion.
