Stay Express Inn & Suites - Mobile, Al

The place was clean, with helpful staff, is under new management. Breakfast was hot, scrambled eggs, biscuits, waffle, muffins and more. We loved the all day long Lemonade and coffee in the lobby. Pool was clean and open. I am taking a star away for key cards. Only one card worked qnd that too stopped working. The key card rarely worked on the side entrance. We got new cards and it helped a little. It was peaceful otherwise.

So from our experience it seemed like the hotel is under new ownership and trying to clean up what the last owner did. The staff were so nice and helpful! Possibly the nicest staff we’ve encountered through the years!! The room was nice but not clean. Our original room (325) had a horrible smell so they moved us to (327) and it was better. The floors and vanity had hair all over them and the shower wasn’t all that clean. The pool was nice but the hot tub did not work. Although this wouldn’t be our first choice if we go back, it was fine for the 2 night stay! I do think the new owners will get it in shape in due time tho!!

Nice pool just was not available

Staff very super helpful, kind and friendly. Pet area is easily accessible from the side doors, breakfast is great variety. Room was clean, and was able to get linens and towels if needed. Pool was relaxing and so refreshing.

Stay was excellent the room was nice mixed emotions about the jacuzzi not functioning but the only complaint about anything else was one of the pillows had hair on it. That was gross we threw it in the floor. And on the first floor the door at the end of the hall My room 101 was loud and squeaky and I heard it every time it opened and closed.

Elevator didn't work the whole stay. Room had a funky odor

The room had clean sheets and comfortable pillows however the bathroom was another issue. The tub had backed up water that would not drain also the towels were old and the soap disintegrated as soon as the water touched it. The air conditioning made a horrible noise that I had to turn it off. Also the small fridge made a noise every so often I thought is was going to burst. To top it off I am handicapped and they gave me a 3rd floor even though I requested a bottom floor and the elevator broke as I was checking out on my last day

Decent room for the price. There was also plenty of parking. It was near some nicer hotels so it felt safe. There wasn't anything exciting within walking distance but we had a car so that wasn't a problem. They hotel is kinda run down with some staining/wear in the shower, on carpet, and other places. You get what you pay for. I felt comfortable enough. The bed we had was a tall pillow top and it was super comfortable. We stayed at two other hotels this trip, including a nicer one on the beach and Stay Express inn had the most comfortable bed. Breakfast was pretty disappointing. What little food they had was sparse. The only drinks were water and coffee and at one point there were no cups. I didn't even bother going down for breakfast the second day. That being said, for the price, I would stay again.

Used to be the La Quinta, definitely needs some room renovations. We stay almost once every few months and the staff is always the best. The fridges definitely talk a long time to get cold. The couch in our room needs to be upgraded, it was hard and stained. There was one roach in our room but I think it came in from outside. Overall the hotel is our go to, we love the staff members and the mental reset. Only downside is the pool being closed twice now that we’ve been there. Breakfast was okay, wish they didn’t get rid of the biscuits.

I really wanted to like this hotel because the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the condition of the property itself left a lot to be desired. The room was dirty and dusty, and it was clear that it needed a deep cleaning. It seemed like the housekeeping staff had neglected regular upkeep — there was dust on surfaces, dirty baseboards, doors and fixtures that hadn’t been wiped down in a while, and furniture that was both dirty and torn. The pull-out bed was also unclean, and the bathroom had a used, empty toilet paper roll left behind. It was also odd that the ice bucket and cups were placed in the bathroom. The continental breakfast did include some meat options, but unfortunately, the food lacked flavor and wasn’t very enjoyable. I also noticed that many out-of-town workers stay at this hotel, which gives it more of a long-term or temporary lodging feel rather than a traditional hotel experience. Overall, the staff’s kindness was the best part of my stay, but the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall atmosphere of the hotel need significant improvement before I would consider staying here again.

Our 3 rooms had very dirty floors with hairs everywhere. Bad smell, too. Beds were comfortable. Although the kitchen staff tried their best to accommodate the breakfast, it’s not their fault it was mediocre. Will not stay here again.

The staff was friendly I do have to say. Out of the three rooms that I purchased, there were roaches seen in all three rooms crawling in the room on the walls in the bathrooms as well. Multiple roaches. We passed a guy in the stairwell with a crackpipe in his hand, while my children were with me. The staff at the front desk were made aware of the roaches and all they had to say was “Thank you” we will call Orkin. I have been refunded in the past at way better locations for incidents like this. The guy with the crackpipe made me and my family nervous and caused me little to no sleep to make sure I kept and eye on my family. I would NOT RECOMMEND this place in any shape for or fashion, and will be making calls to upper management to make sure other families can dodge incidents and experiences like myself and my family encountered!

Rooms were spotless. Smelt great.

All the lamps were cracked/broken. The floor in the lobby and room was disgusting. The toilet seat was yellow and gross.

Firstly, the property may be in the middle of new owner. They may be working on the property. The cockroaches and cockroach eggs were not what we were expecting. The cockroaches were alive, and the eggs were in the furniture drawers. We had dogs. We paid the fee as usual but they ended up double charging us. Called the office and they said they couldn’t change the charge. We’ll dispute the charge with the cc company. It’s not a big deal but it takes time. We would choose anywhere else to stay in mobile.

Staff was courteous. Suite: sleeper sofa was gross. Stains and tears. Definitely old and in need of repair. Paid extra for the sleeper and didnt use bc it was so gross. Tub in bath did not have a drain plug, just an open hole that anything smaller than 2 inches in diameter would have been lost.

I could tell our room had been cleaned but the carpets need to be pulled. There was a slight sour smell. Our refrigerator didn't work, which was a slight inconvenience and they are short staffed. The breakfast was pretty good and they tried to stay on top of replenishing items as they got low. The customer service alone can cause this hotel to soar with the proper assistance. Ultimately, we enjoyed our stay. I definitely felt safe on the property and in the area.

When checking in i was told i had to pay $100 deposit and that if i wanted to get it back quicker that i needed to bring the receipt back in the morning when i check out so they could run the card again. However she said it could still take 3 to 15 days to get back! I dont know what i would have done has this been out of state and i didnt have the extra money bc this room was non-refundable. We get to the room and the shower wont turn on bc the handle is stripped. I had to go back down to the desk to get another room which was luckily right next door but still inconvenient. The receptionist was very quick to help fix the situation which i appreciated. The hotel is not as nice as i expected it to be but its not horrible. I will not be staying there again.

Having to go down and have the keys fixed 3 times was a pain. Plus the front desk lady was wore out cause I wasn't the only one having the issue. Slamming of doors all night long and people running and screaming all hours of the night

Toilet wasn’t bolted down on 307, so my co-worker almost fell in the bathroom. Other than that, nice stay.

Location was central to most in Mobile. Overall just ok. First, because room keys fail daily (on all rooms, heard other guests complaining too)-this was most annoying. Room was ok with beds a little lumpy and pull out couch mattress was a joke, my eldest son was hurt on it because of springs poking through. Water pressure fluctuates. Again, just ok. So it looking for affordable, sure, but if looking for overall comfort, go elsewhere.

Biscuits were burnt and hard. Eggs overcooked and nasty. Didn’t turn down beds and didn’t replace towels and wash rags. Didn’t take out the trash! We even requested several times that we wanted our beds made everyday. Just poor to say the least. Poor service!!!!

One night stay before cruise. We had a good night’s sleep and all the staff were really friendly and helpful.

I stayed here for 2 nights. Upon exiting the elevator to the 3rd floor, I immediately smelled a musty/humid smell. It took me several attempts with the two key cards to enter the room to get it to work. The room stunk as well. I turned on the a/c and hoped the smell would go away. It didn't. I went to the front desk and asked for a candle or room fresher, and they gave me some liquid in a spray bottle. I went back to the room and whatever was in the spray bottle was not something to help with the smell. I went to the bathroom and the toilet would not flush. I went back to the front desk and brought the spray bottle. I asked for a plunger and was told that they just gave it to another person as their toilet was clogged. I then asked for another room and that it be on the first floor as that floor did not stink. She made the change and gave me the key card to a room on the first floor. I went to check it out and the key cards would not work, so I had them redo it. This room was fine, so I made the switch. I then stayed the 2 nights. The hotel is an old La Quinta and they say it is undergoing repairs. In fact, when you approach the hotel at night, the lit up La Quinta sign shines through the "Stay" sign. This hotel needs help.

Room was clean, but multiple outlets did not work, bathroom light was burnt out, door keys did not initially work, and then only randomly with multiple tries. Staff was pleasant but didn’t seem too worried about the issues.

They charged me a 3.5% fee to use my card at check-in. I offered to pay cash, but they would require an additional $100 deposit. This on top of a $25 fee.

We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids 11&2) we stayed here 2 nights between our drive to Florida. Check in was easy but once we got to our room it smelled like smoke and was a single king with pull out couch not the double queen I booked. The front desk lady informed me that all the double beds were taken and that they did their best to clean the smell. Since we were tired from the drive we kept the room. After we checked out and continued our drive to Orlando I get a notification that my credit card was charged from this hotel. We call and were told that there was no notes on our account and would need to call back the next day to speak with the manager who knows what the charge is for. After waiting and calling back the manager who answered was the same gentleman that answered the previous call. He did not have an answer about why there wasn't any notes on our account about the smoke smell when we checked in just that nothing was going to change the fact that we were charged $250. Pos. -rooms are very spacious -tv has kid channels -quiet at night. Cons- -breakfast is mediocre and cold. Has a multiple waffle makers but only had one out. Causing long wait for waffles as multiple families were making waffles. We could see the others in the kitchen area on a shelf. -elevator smelled like vomit -manager

Outdated, did not feel safe, sketchy people outside, did not take a shower because it did not feel clean, base boards were falling apart, room door and exterior door didn't work properly, had to wash down table, would have left but it was late and been on the road since 4 am, would not stay again.

The front desk staff was exceptional and it was very pet friendly. Breakfast was okay, but would be better if it included more healthy choices. The AC in my room was difficult to get it to cool and stay on. It was also a bit noisy at night, and it seemed a lot of people arrived very late.

I don’t know how this hotel has a 9.8 rating. At best it’s a 7. The breakfast was so-so. And cold. One of my room keys didn’t work. But for the price I received it at- $80. it was fine. But certainly nothing to brag about.

Great breakfast! Hot sausage and eggs and very good juice
