The Lister Arms

Lovely welcoming character property tastefully decorated. Open fires and dogs welcome. Staff very friendly and service good. Food excellent. Lovely beer garden, however needs a good tidy up to remove cigarette ends, old broken furniture, bird dirt on tables and weeds. Could do with hanging baskets and plants on tables.

Very nice accommodation. Pub and restaurant were cosy and good food. They seemed to be out of quite a few menu items over the days we stayed but what we did eat was great.

We stayed in the Barn. The facility is just across the road from the main hotel. We found the room exceptionally clean, cosy, modern and a comfortable bed. Breakfast was superb. Evening meal was great too. Cannot fault it!

The room was lovely with a large comfortable bed and ample space in the bedroom and bathroom, plus ample free parking. This is a dog friendly hotel and there seemed to be lots of guests with their dogs, as well as oursleves. The hotel is set in a lovely village with lots of green space easily accessable from the rooms to take the dog out for toilet breaks and beautiful countryside walks. We ate dinner in the pub, which was delicious and breakfast was equally delicious with the same high quality, local produce. We will definitely be staying here again.

The hotel is very pet friendly. Dog beds and water bowls are provided in the bar. They also do home made dog treats. Brilliant hotel

Lister Arms was a welcoming place, rooms were clean & tidy. Bar and restaurant had a myriad of choices, the food was tasty (locally sourced) and delicious. Service was spot on with helpful and enthusiastic staff. My favourite was plentiful Black Pudding available for breakfast - breakfast heaven.

sorted our luggage on arrival around 10.30 allowing us to walk all day. check in on return quick & efficient but room disappointing small & cramped. shower door fell off on second morning and to get the correct shower temperature it was necessary to run the washbasin hot tap whilst showering. nowhere to store cases and little room for toiletries in bathroom. great location and food but disappointing accommodation

Such a beautiful spot to have a pub/ hotel. The staff are friendly and polite and the food delicious. My only dislike was that even though we didn’t have a dog with us. Our room had clearly been used by someone who had a dog with them previously. The rooms could do with a paint in places and there were some huge cobwebs on the ceiling. We were greeted on arrival with a used earplug on the floor. The rooms just need a bit of TLC and a good thorough top to bottom clean especially if you are allowing dogs in there.

I had a lovely stay at the Listers Arms. The location was ideal for walking to the cove and further on the Pennine Way. The food was excellent both at breakfast and in the evening. The room was maybe a little tired and there were some minor cleanliness issues around the shower tray. These would not prevent me from a return visit. The quality, efficiency and friendliness of the staff could not be faulted and the whole team at the inn should be congratulated.

Checked out after one night’s lack of sleep in a tiny bed that only just fit into the very small room. No offer of a refund on my unused night

Expensive however great location . Banged head on sloping ceiling every time when getting in/out of bed and judging by the marks on the ceiling lots of people had . Served Luke warm burger , did mention it was offered to takes it back which would have overcooked it and burnt the cheese we had been told that there were no more burgers , offered free drink declined as sat there with full drinks , mentioned this when went to the bar to pay , paid the bill after explaining the burgers we’re Luke warm then discovered we had been charged service charge without informing us for such a poor quality expensive meal , service charge is voluntary not mandatory, don’t mind paying when a good experience, cancelled the booking for the next evening

Arriving on one of the busiest afternoons of the season did not stop us receiving a warm welcome from the bar staff. Our bedrooms labelled as superior were fine, if a little sparsely furnished but really comfortable bed. Dinner was great and good value, very much a pub meal set up which was exactly what we wanted. My main issue was the noise of a fan or extractor that kept me awake for 2-3 hours. It was like a washing machine on its spin setting, all night! In the morning no-one could explain the sound and suggested it might be the youth hostel next door. Not overly impressed, but the location and setting are lovely. It does get very busy so it’s not an intimate setting but prime location for the stunningly beautiful views and walks.

We enjoyed our one night stay in Malham. Comfortable if somewhat small room. Good dinner, fish & chips very good.

Great hotel, staff friendly and very helpful. Clean well appointed, spacious room. Varied menu, excellent food. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Although, as expected, it was busy the staff made time to ensure you had the best time.

Room, food and staff all fantastic

Pub and Barn were lovely. We had a barn room and it was small but beautifully appointed. The coffee machine was a real bonus as was the homemade shortbread. The velux window was a bit of a challenge to open and close. Breakfast was very nice with really friendly helpful staff, checkout was also friendly and straightforward. This was in contrast to check in, (e.g. we were told they didn't want us mithering the cleaning staff, as if we would) lunch and evening meal. The food was nice enough but my partner remarked that the staff were like automatons in that they said the appropriate things as though they were reading off a card but seemed irritated that we were there.

Mattress in the room I had was worn, and for me, uncomfortable. To travel to Malham you need a car. I wanted to travel a couple miles away and the manager said I would have to call a taxi from Skipton. Fortunately, a staff member reminded her (the manager) about the mid morning bus I could catch. Without that input I would have had to spend closer to 30 pounds on the taxi versus the 2 pounds on the bus. Seems like information the property manager should have provided to me. If that staff member had not been within earshot I would have had to pay far more. The inclusive breakfast buffet was nice but found the evening pub meal average, though pub setting is cosy.

Room was beautiful, many little special touches that we loved. Food and service was fantastic, would definitely recommend booking! Can’t wait to come back.

The Lister Arms is as magical as the landscape surrounding it. My only regret is that we stayed only one night. Our room was comfortable and well appointed, and the food at the pub and restaurant were as good as it gets. It was the most delicious breakfast and dinner we experienced during our ten day British journey. And nothing beats the trails and scenery of the Dales National Forest! My goal is to return one day and stay a while.

Well, first the location. This hotel is in Malham - in the centre of some of the finest walking country (looks pretty good from a car too, actually) you could imagine. Marvellous walks, quite literally, on your doorstep. Now the hotel. Lovely. Very comfortable, good food, beer and wine (I tried them all). Lastly, but definitely not leastly, the staff. I've stayed in quite a few different places and it's always the staff that make the difference between the merely good, and the exceptional hotels. Staff at the Lister Arms were, without exception, lovely. They were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. All in all, this is a great place to stay to explore a wonderful part of the country.

Fantastic! Absolutely brilliant location, and gorgeous room. The food in the restaurant and for breakfast is amazing, with plenty of vegetarian options. To top it off , the staff are very friendly!

Standard if accommodation was first class albeit a little pricey. Staff and comfort were spot on. Food was good but not many healthy or veggie options. Overall we were very satisfied.

lovely room in the barn annex. Good quality produce. However, the kitchen doesnt cater very well for lactose intolerance - only butter for toast at breakfast. Also, potatoes/chips are not always included with main courses have to pay for these separately. Food generally on the pricey side.

Room 11 was superb. The evening meal was a big let down. The duck was very over done and the steak and kidney pie contained very little steak! I was looking forward to the cheese selection, but there was so little cheese, it didn't surprise me that you served small biscuits! There were two tiny slivers of cheese on the plate. I really felt cheated by the cost given such a small amount! The breakfast was very good..a welcome meal after such a skimpy dinner.

We booked to stay in the Lister Arms, but a few weeks before our stay we got a call from them explaining that the pub would be closed due to a refit. We were offered a room in their Barn, which was an upgrade, but our breakfast and any other services would be at the Buck inn, which was a few hundred yards away. So, we checked out the food menu at the Buck, to see if it had a decent choice, it did, so we accepted the change to the booking, as it was still technically with the Lister Arms. We arrived, and booked in at the Buck, got our room sorted at the barn, which was very close, and very nice accommodation, which we were more than happy with, We booked a table for an evening meal at the Buck, as the only other option to eat in the village was at a hotel which was plant based food only. The menu at the Buck, was not what was on their website, very very limited, and very expensive (£18 for 4 pieces of cheese and crackers)! It was such a basic menu, which did not change for the 3 nights we were there. Our only other option was to drive out to find another place to eat, the weather was awful, plus we wanted a relaxing break. We would never have stayed here if we had known this. As we booked for the Lister Arms, we have to review as such. Very disappointing stay, not cheap, and the food was a massive let down, both the menu and the price. We must say, the staff were lovely, special shout out to Mel - she was fab. Beware if you are staying whilst the Lister is still closed.
