Econo Lodge Carlsbad Caverns Area

Nice enough for what we paid. Weird thing is that there is a different sign out front. I think it only recently became an Econolodge and they never did update the sign. Breakfast was quite good.

Good bed, comfortable room. Best shower of a week long trip in 2 states! Unfortunately, the pool and hot tub you see in the pictures of the hotel have been filled in with concrete! Was looking forward to swimming after driving 8 hours to get there but wasn't happening.

No swimming pool or whirlpool sauna as stated in website. That was false Phone in room did not work Vanity light did not turn on

Plenty of parking space, quiet, good coffee, and friendly staff.

Good stay for 2 days, while visiting Carlsbad Caverns. No pool, good parking. Decent continental breakfast. Staff was friendly.

Older property - under new name (Home Stay Inn), No signage for Econo Lodge. Called from the Parking lot to make sure I was in the right place

I opted to get a hotel room that accommodates pet. This property was listed as pet friendly. When i arrived, there was a sign at the door that pets were not allowed in the property. Needless to say, I had to look for another place that can take my dog.

Breakfast was very limited. We were there 3 mornings and all mornings there wasn’t much. Our room was very clean. The whole motel needs some updating. They are in the process but they have a ways to go. They advertise a restaurant and a lounge but they are presently closed.

No pool

Spacious rooms, the pressure from the shower head is strong, it feels like a water massage, feels good. The coffee is perfect, not watered down. The continental breakfast has delicious biscuit and gravy. Channel selection offers a good range of options to watch. Washer and dryer on site is convenient.

Room was not cleaned from the guest before me. Trash in the night stand. Trash and hair in the sheets

Unfortunately, this is one of the dirtiest rooms I’ve stayed in. It was convenient while traveling to Carlsbad caverns with several dining options near by. It looks like the owners have made attempts to revamp the exterior of the property but unfortunately they fall short with the interior of the rooms. We arrived about 10 and did call the desk to let them know the room smelled of smoke so we wouldn’t be charged and they offered to move us. It was late and my kiddo had already fallen asleep so I declined. But quickly regretted not asking for another room. The age of a property can be overlooked but not cleanliness!

Literal roach motel. Killed a couple myself.

Horrible Experience – Do Not Stay Here! This was by far one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed. Everything in the room was filthy—the bathroom, the sheets, the coffee machine, the floor—literally everything was super dirty. The pictures online are completely misleading; this is not a hotel, it’s a rundown motel. To make matters worse, the entire room smelled strongly of weed from the moment we stepped in and lasted the entire night. It was unbearable. This is the second terrible experience I’ve had booking with Expedia, and I feel like my money was completely wasted. I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone. Avoid this place at all costs!

Breakfast? There was nothing, not even coffee. The room smelled bad, the bathtub was peeling, and the floor was very dirty, especially around the bed. I easily saw dead bugs.

The property and room were clean. The decor was dated, but the staff kept everything very clean. We booked two rooms for a family of 5. One room smelled of smoke, but the other did not. Breakfast was the best I've ever had at an inexpensive motel. The staff was very friendly and even kept a stuffed toy my daughter had left in the room. I was able to retrieve it on our way back through town later.

The bed and bathroom were clean, but I guess those flying cockroaches came in from outside. I didn't like it.

DO NOT stay here. The staff was friendly, but the place was a dump. The only good thing was the bed. We have several.lamps in the room but inly one worked. We teied to charge our phones but none of the outlets worked. There was a regular si ed window and then a ceiling to floor window and they both had roll up shades, not curtains. If you wamyed light you had to roll them up and it was like you were in a fish bowl on display. The TV worked, but it had no guide channel so you could see whats on. The tv channel guide in the binder in the room was not accurate at all. The channel up and down button didnt work on the remote. I called the front deska d they didnt have guides, they had no cluebwhat channel if aby the guide w as on, nor could he yell.me what channels they got. I literally had to put in each channel with the number buttons until I found a channel that wasnt static. The tub looked like the last person there died their hair bright pink. The tub and sides were all stained pink, and with lines of what you could tell was hair that had fallen out and sat there. The only light in the sink area was a very dim light around the mirror. Good luck putting on your makeup. I made a comment tot husband that at least the floor wasnt sticky, but then we spilled water on the floor and I stepped in it, walked to the bathroom barefoot to get a towel, stepped on a towel going in, and left a BLACK footprint on the towel. The floor was freaking nasty dirty like they neverrrrr clean it.

Extremely dirty

Upon arrival to our room (227) I reached for the blind pull and discovered it was dripping wet. It had been raining and apparently there was a leak. A glance showed the leak had been going on some time as mold clearly growing above window and water damage all the way around the drywall. Hair on the toilet seat and around bathroom floor, Hard floors are great but need to be mopped occasionally. Ours were truly filthy. Random drips and spills between beds had dried. I used a washcloth to clean it up and it was instantly black from the floor. Same with the bathroom. I can’t imagine how long it had been since they had been in our room. The light in the vanity area was so dim we had to use the bathroom light. Beds were fine and appeared clean. Husband said front desk man was friendly. Based on room condition we didn’t want to try breakfast.

I got a room for 2 nights. The AC sounded like a freight train and I wasn’t able to sleep, the cupboard doors in the “kitchen” were coming off and the toilet need a good scrub. I asked for a different room for the second night. The sink wouldn’t drain, again, the toilet could have been cleaner and there was a dead cockroach in the tub, but the AC was quiet. The breakfast bar is mostly Ok—a bit spare and the eggs are an abomination. The bathroom by the breakfast room was not clean and poorly maintained.

Noise from AC kept me up all night and I had took out my hearing aids. It was still crazy loud even without my hearing aids. Room was clean. Staff were nice. Breakfast not so great. I would not stay there again.

The water pressure in the shower was the only good thing

The location of the hotel had very poor cell service so I was depending on the Wi-Fi to get things done. I could never log onto the Wi-Fi on my phone so I went to the front desk and he had me try another room but the room he gave me had disconnected plumbing, so I had to go back to the front desk and get another room and in that third room the Wi-Fi still was not working. I gave up because they couldn’t help me. If you’re interested in watching TV, there was no TV guide on the screen and there was no channel list on paper provided so you couldn’t look on the paper and directly input a station. Who wants to just scroll through channel by channel to find what you’re looking for. Don’t stay here.

next door neighbors yelling at 2am is not the ideal say for me.. turning on the shower should not be a chore, I would not stay at this location agian

Property shows its age but has been updated. Thin walls so it can be a little noisy. Staff work hard to keep it clean, great job. No real complaints.

The room has a good size fridge👍 and nice stove area! Great for low price!

Great water pressure in the shower, horrible drainage in the shower beds are too high for standard height personnel. Staff was accommodating and very nice. Food needs work for the breakfast no water in the breakfast area.

Nice hotel. Kitchenette is not a real kitchen. Just a small fridge freezer and a microwave. Couldn't get TV to work correctly it they said today they would get it working. They did offer to switch out to a new room but the wife was a sleep already. Very spacious and bed is comfortable.

Hotel was just okay. Room was very large but the television was so small and low quality and too far away from the bed, it was impractical.

It was great. It is a HUGE place with many many rooms so they may need more help to keep up. I was very happy. Everything worked, wasn't absolutely perfect but it was great! And graveyard attendant was so, so nice and personable!

Before we got there i had called to request a bottom floor crystal was amazing she made sure that we had a bottom floor and was the sweetest at check in. Very amazing hospitality. The room was clean the serviced the room everyday that we was there and even went as far as folding our throw blankets we had with us. We will definitely stay there again the next time we are carlsbad

Clean rooms and pleasant staff

Staff was very friendly helped out with what we needed in our room. We felt safe being there and loved we had great night sleep. The beds were so so soft and comfortable. I would recommend to stay, we don’t know when we will be back but we will stay here again! Thank you!

I feel I was catfished with this place!!! Reviews and pics were why I reserved this place but once I got there I regretted it!! The gentleman in the afternoon that checled us in was ok but couldnt recommend anything to do there. The lady in the AM was very rude and seemed wasnt happy that she was assisting with the breakfast. Breakfast was bad, cereal was stale, eggs n cheese were hard from being left in the serving tray for long time, juice machine and pancake machine were not working the positive part of breakfast was the biscuits . The room and sheets were DIRTY and eventhough it was a non smoking room it smelled. I guess it was too good to be true, and like the saying goes, you pay for what you get.

Convenient, safe, quiet location

Arrived just after a major rain storm. The water on the floor in the room apparently blew in through the crack between the door and the frame. Can see daylight through the gap. Bed wasn’t very comfortable. Shower was decent. Lots of adult men just hanging around on stairwells and balconies all day long.

I cannot believe anyone has left reviews saying this place was excellent with cleanliness because as soon as we stepped in the room there was dead cockroach on the floor and a live one on the ceiling. And the room smelled like someone had just smoked a pack of cigarettes before we walked in. Also the surrounding area and parking lot was so sketch. We left immediately and got a room up the road somewhere else. Would not recommend at all

very economical way to see Carlsbad Caverns coming from far away

The hotel was very conveniently located and easy to find. Although non- smoking, our room had pretty strong lingering pot odors. We noticed the odors in several areas of the hotel. The breakfast on the other hand was good with eggs, sausage and biscuits and gravy.

Eventhough the hotel is under new mgmt & our room (#108) & beds were clean, there were stains on the walls they could've cleaned. Breakfast is passable: It has sausages, eggs, english muffins w/ gravy but no fruits. The pancakes & juice machines were broken though they gave little boxes of OJ & apple juices. Overall, this hotel Econolodge is a great location to explore Carlsbad Caverns NP & it suited us bc we're only staying the night(s) to sleep & on-the-go the next day(s). If you want to enjoy your room , I would suggest to pay more for other well known nearby hotels. Btw there's a Shell gas station & McD w/in walking distance & we decided to eat @ Mariscos de Bucheron. It's a quaint little family owned Mexican restaurant (food is excellent).

Clean,well maintained hotel with a nice breakfast

Very nice hotel. Great staff, amazing hot breakfast, super soft towels, and good pressure in the shower (felt like a massage). It seems the hotel had seen some bad times and it is being slowly and steadily being improved. Value for money and better than several higher priced hotels in New Mexico.

I had made reservations for Thursday and Friday but had to leave urgently on Friday morning I didn't even have time to let the front desk clerk know about my check out . Breakfast was very unsatisfactory there was not but 3 biscuits in warmer the gravy was pretty much gone and what was left was dry the pancake machine was something to look at because all a guest had to do was wave and watch ur pancake be made but after waving and waving at it nothing came out , there was no one in kitchen to let know. I had to go to the front desk and let him know that there was no batter to make pancakes. He was very kind and fixed it but still only 3 Minnie pancakes where made then again same problem no more mix. I decided to just have a pkg of oatmeal and went about my morning. I didn't get to enjoy my lil vacation like I planned because I so urgently had to get bk home to Odessa. I checked in late Thursday evening and left early Friday morning, lost my money on the room that I didn't even stay the 2 nites. Hopefully I'll get to try my vacation again next month.
