Check in friendly - definitely not allowed in room till 3pm. No fridge in room however bar happy to give us ice!!! Breakfast was good brilliant choice of hot food. Service was slow and not welcoming. Think preoccupied with the wedding party … was upset to get an email to pay bill when I had already paid on booking. Grounds beautiful. Would come back maybe in summer or when no wedding on

Quiet rural location in a converted country house. There are a variety of room choices, all include breakfast. The restaurant has some great choices for breakfast. Dinner menu is also good. There’s a cosy little bar in the hotel and other pub and dining options are a short drive away. I have stayed here around 10 times and it is my go-to choice in the area.

It was our second stay here and it was great. Typical independant country house style hotel in that it has lovely authentic decor and styling, great service, plenty of free parking, nice countryside views, and breakfast included.

Really nice hotel,which is refreshing when hotels are becoming more of the same. It’s got a lovely ambiance and sits in grounds which are just perfect for a walk before dinner. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful plus the restaurant serves nice food at a very competitive price. We stayed there after my wife went to the Emma Bridgewater factory which is just up the road. It’s also close to the Wedgewood experience if you’re into that sort of thing. A real plus for me were the electric chargers for the car too. Thoroughly recommended.

Lovely friendly staff. Relaxing setting, quiet location and beautiful scenery. Hotel had loads of character. Only downside we were unable to get in the restaurant both evenings as fully booked with external guests. We were over the main function room which had a wedding in on the 2nd night, however, it did end at 11.30pm. So would check ahead if you want to eat there in the evening. Overall a good stay.

This was our second stay at the property. We returned not only for the beautiful location & accommodation, but we also enjoyed our dining experience very much. The included breakfast was far above average in terms of selection, taste, and service, and the dinner options were superb. Parking is convenient and included. There is a lift if you need it, and they also have improved their Wifi since our last visit last year. A loud event took place at the hotel our last night but we received communication about it beforehand so it wasn't a problem (music off before 11pm). Our only regret was not taking advantage of the gorgeous lounge for an evening drink!

Parking is easy and it’s really accessible for visiting our family. Would suggest a little bit more personal interaction to gauge why a customer visits and share what else is available food/drink wise from the hotel besides breakfast. Will be staying again in a couple of weeks and looking forward to it.

Our room was small but cute. We had everything we needed & the bed was super comfy. Staff were lovely & helpful. My only issue ( & it’s a small one) is I ordered scrambled eggs for breakfast but what I got was like a cut up omelette. Would stay again!

The property is absolutely stunning set in beautiful grounds with great history. I grew up in the village so ideal for still visiting my family. Unfortunately there was a wedding and our room was directly above the disco so our second night wasn’t as comfortable as we had hoped with the noise. If there is a wedding, I would have expected the rooms to be allocated differently to put those not attending it away from it. The tv in our room didn’t work and even though the bed was comfortable the rooms do need modernising but were very clean. Breakfast was standard with a range of menu options and the service was friendly but nothing above and beyond. Given the competition, would really encourage the owners to consider revamping and moving customer service up a notch to match the wonderful setting on offer.

We book this hotel as a break from driving on the M6. The staff are helpful and friendly, the hotel is very clean, the evening meals are exemplary and reasonably priced. The house and grounds are beautiful. A one night stay can feel like a holiday.

An excellent property in the beautiful countryside with gorgeous gardens obviously looked after by enthusiastic gardeners. 🌳🌹🪻🪷 The decor is fitting to this country mansion and the whole house is very clean, and my bedroom was exceptionally clean and well stocked with soap, shampoo etc. and my bed very comfortable giving me a good night’s sleep 💤 The food offers a wide range for everyone’s taste and the quality is far better than many city 5 star hotels I’ve stayed in! The staff are all professional, courteous, polite and helpful and I would like to compliment Jack (a young restaurant waiter), who made me feel very welcomed and was very helpful ensuring I received a good breakfast (as I have medical issues). This young man is an asset to this lovely hotel and as a retired Regional HR Manager I see lots of potential in him to rise up - so GM watch out!! 😅 Many thanks to everyone from housekeeping to GM for making my brief visit keen to return for longer. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very helpful staff and lovely clean room. The shower head was not the cleanest. You must disinfect a shower at least every quarter and log results (legislative). More often if required. Breakfast could have been more flexible with regards to choice and would have preferred not to have paid extra for certain foods. Overall a lovely stay however.

We booked a Luxury Suite which was very spacious with it’s own dressing area. The hotel is very grande and the reception room on the main floor was very relaxing for a coffee and cake. Wish we had more time to explore the hotel grounds.

Really nice place. Stayed in the "Bluebell" room. Was disappointed to see the condition of the paintwork surrounding the light fitting by the wardrobe; doesn't scream "4 star hotel". Also, I was a little disappointed that there were so few channels available on the TV. Other than that, I was impressed.

Lovely location. Service is very good and friendly. Unfortunately the rooms are small and walls are thin - we heard conversations olin next rooms up until 3a.m plus. Pose of adjacent showers and toilets. Not a place fora restful sleep.

Stayed for 3 nights at the Upper House in a double room. This was our second stay at the hotel. We were visiting the British Ceramics Biennial and the hotel is in a good position near Wedgewood to visit the museum and to get to the other exhibitions in Stoke itself. The hotel is in a delightful position outside Stoke near countryside providing excellent walks. It is walkable to the Wedgewood museum. It is also a short drive to Trentham Gardens. The room was comfortable and the food good (breakfast and evening meals). In particular the service by the hotel staff was excellent and very helpful. In particular the dining room staff were excellent - nothing was too much trouble. We would recommend this hotel for visits to Stoke.

Another comfortable stay whilst visiting my parents in the village. It’s a beautiful property ideal for walks around the area whilst offering home comforts and a great breakfast. I always have a great night sleep and the bathroom facilities are really modern. Customer Service just needs to be a little more personable as I stay here quite regularly and they haven’t yet realised with the ‘welcome to me back’ however it’s perfect for my family.

We book this hotel as a break from driving on the M6. The staff are helpful and friendly, the hotel is very clean, the evening meals are exemplary and reasonably priced. The house and grounds are beautiful. A one night stay can feel like a holiday.

An excellent property in the beautiful countryside with gorgeous gardens obviously looked after by enthusiastic gardeners. 🌳🌹🪻🪷 The decor is fitting to this country mansion and the whole house is very clean, and my bedroom was exceptionally clean and well stocked with soap, shampoo etc. and my bed very comfortable giving me a good night’s sleep 💤 The food offers a wide range for everyone’s taste and the quality is far better than many city 5 star hotels I’ve stayed in! The staff are all professional, courteous, polite and helpful and I would like to compliment Jack (a young restaurant waiter), who made me feel very welcomed and was very helpful ensuring I received a good breakfast (as I have medical issues). This young man is an asset to this lovely hotel and as a retired Regional HR Manager I see lots of potential in him to rise up - so GM watch out!! 😅 Many thanks to everyone from housekeeping to GM for making my brief visit keen to return for longer. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very helpful staff and lovely clean room. The shower head was not the cleanest. You must disinfect a shower at least every quarter and log results (legislative). More often if required. Breakfast could have been more flexible with regards to choice and would have preferred not to have paid extra for certain foods. Overall a lovely stay however.

This is an outstanding property in a quiet, picturesque part of Stoke-on-Trent (the village of Barlaston). Morgan at Reception on Tuesday afternoon 15/7/25 was fantastic… very helpful, very pleasant! Dinner was very nice…and the wait staff pleasant and efficient! Our room was well appointed and beds very comfortable, with a nice ensuite and shower. This property exceeded our expectations! We highly recommend this property! John & Suzanne Teague, Lake Macquarie, NSW, Australia.

Quiet rural location in a converted country house. There are a variety of room choices, all include breakfast. The restaurant has some great choices for breakfast. Dinner menu is also good. There’s a cosy little bar in the hotel and other pub and dining options are a short drive away. I have stayed here around 10 times and it is my go-to choice in the area.

Stayed for 3 nights at the Upper House in a double room. This was our second stay at the hotel. We were visiting the British Ceramics Biennial and the hotel is in a good position near Wedgewood to visit the museum and to get to the other exhibitions in Stoke itself. The hotel is in a delightful position outside Stoke near countryside providing excellent walks. It is walkable to the Wedgewood museum. It is also a short drive to Trentham Gardens. The room was comfortable and the food good (breakfast and evening meals). In particular the service by the hotel staff was excellent and very helpful. In particular the dining room staff were excellent - nothing was too much trouble. We would recommend this hotel for visits to Stoke.

Last minute business trip. Found this place local to where i needed to be. Lovely setting and and a great location. A very warm welcome. Food and service was excellent. Room well equiped and comfortable. Was advised that there was a wedding celebration on during my stay, but this did not impact me in the slightest. Overal a great little find and will be back at next opportunity.

Excellent experience. Ideally placed if you travel up and down the country and very comfortable. Dinner excellent, breakfast too. The sitting room is very relaxed, and there is a resident cat who doesn't bother you at all.

The hotel was very attractive inside and out and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The only thing I was not impressed with was the food. At breakfast there was no fresh fruit, to have on its own or with cereal. The burger I had one evening was very tasteless despite all the toppings, but others with me enjoyed their meals so I may have chosen badly.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff are really friendly. Got exactly what we wanted, a relaxing and peaceful weekend. The only thing that fell short for me was the coffee at breakfast time, as with the foid being lovely, i would have liked fresh ground coffee. Would definitely go again and will also recommend it to people.

The hotel was excellent, the staff were brilliant and so friendly. The room was great with a massive bed. The food at dinner was 5 star and great portions as well. Breakfast was really good. All in all a perfect stay at a top hotel.

We’ve stayed here several times as a stop off on our way north using the M6. It’s always welcoming, comfortable and usually quiet (just once there was a wedding there but it didn’t interfere with our stay). The individually ordered breakfast is the best we’ve come across. The evening meal offers variety and nothing is too much trouble. The gardens provide a lovely walk and photo opportunities.

This was our second stay at the property. We returned not only for the beautiful location & accommodation, but we also enjoyed our dining experience very much. The included breakfast was far above average in terms of selection, taste, and service, and the dinner options were superb. Parking is convenient and included. There is a lift if you need it, and they also have improved their Wifi since our last visit last year. A loud event took place at the hotel our last night but we received communication about it beforehand so it wasn't a problem (music off before 11pm). Our only regret was not taking advantage of the gorgeous lounge for an evening drink!

Stayed here previously, rooms okay, they are small and could do with a facelift and makeover. I find the corridors to get to bars, function room restaurants, toilets are difficult to manoeuvre. The Upper House is in an idyllic setting, the outdoor space is beautiful, with plenty of parking. The property is traditional with some lovely features but could do with some updating, especially in the bedrooms. The gentleman on reception was lovely and really helpful, the rest of the staff were young and quite inexperienced and were in need of a mature experienced Manager to guide them. The restaurant food on the evening was of a good quality and well presented, the restaurant itself would benefit from updating and a thorough clean. The bedrooms were tired and unfortunately quite dusty. With a period property there are more areas to gather dust such as chandeliers, intricate wall sconces and decorations. The bed was old and creaky when you turned over in the night. The bathroom had been updated but unfortunately the sink had been fitted with a tap which would work well in a bath, but the water came out at an angle that missed the sink altogether if turned on fully. The cleaning of the bathroom was not thorough and there were some questionable stains in the hinge of the toilet seat and behind the toilet seat. The base bed sheet had a stain on it. The breakfast was well presented and enjoyable, however we were charged for my poached eggs on toast as they were not a menu item! I should’ve ordered the eggs Benedict without the hollandaise! Overall we had a very pleasant stay, and with some staff training and a thorough clean would return and recommend to others.
