After a long flight, the shuttle was there waiting for us and check-in was easy. We were jet lagged and didn’t get to enjoy the amenities much, but the hot tub eased us into a nice sleep after days of travel.

Excellent hotel. Rooms are large and clean, location - close to aiport with a shuttle. Staff is super helpful. Food options are very good but overpriced as expected. I loved the heated pool, gym and a hottub.

A very fancy hotel with beautiful rooms and amazing facilities. I think they have four different gyms as well as a full sauna and steering plus a hot tub next to their beautiful pool. Tons of restaurants and the windows are well insulated to keep out the noise of the city at night. I only wish we couldn’t stay longer.

We stay at the Barcelo for a city break as we live in rural Guatemala. The staff is lovely and we love the pool. While not normal, there was a cleanliness issue with our carpet which I have addressed with the hotel directly. Thats why I gave the 4 stars.

We staybat the Barcelo often. Its great as our stop for the airport or for a weekend get away. My only complaint is they need to clean/steam clean the room carpets. In reality they are ready for a replacement.

This property is OLD SCHOOL, which has pros and cons. Decor and design is OLD, yet high quality….imagine early 90s, some elements earlier than that. The service is old school, which is actually good. Proper, courteous, no attitude. If you’re in a hurry, you may be frustrated. Its proximity to the airport is also a +/-. Convenient- yes. Noisy- yes. There wasn’t much to do in the immediate area. No restaurants within a reasonable walking distance. As a Gold status member and VIP resort, I found it frustrating that it was MY responsibility to remind staff every step of the way of the benefits and inclusions. This should be flagged on my folio. I shouldn’t have to tell every server that I’m entitled to a discount at the restaurant. Why can’t the night auditor just adjust my bill? You also have to remind the front desk that you’re entitled to an upgrade, if available at the time of check-in. Again, that should be flagged on my reservation. The resort is well staffed and impeccably clean.

Bed was comfy and room fairly comfortable though outdated. Check in was extremely slow and keycard didn’t work on my first 2 tries — I saw many other guests coming to the front desk with the same issue. The ac dripped onto the floor making the carpet wet and mildew-y at all times. Staff is friendly

Older hotel with Beautiful lobby. Airport shuttle available which is great. Rooms are a bit dated but clean and bed was comfortable. Had a balcony which over looked the main road which we enjoyed. Couldn’t hear any road noise.

I reserved a superior king room with a terrace but got a room with double beds and no terrace. The front desk staff member checked us in as if there was no issue and then told us as she was handing us the room key that they didn't have any king rooms available. This was not a last-minute reservation where I should have to take what I can get. I was looking for a go-to hotel in Guatemala City since we travel there often. As a result of this, Barcelo won't be it. The hotel is clean and well-maintained but a bit dated. The breakfast buffet is a great perk.

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel at least 25-30 times over the past 10 years. But every single time the same thing happens. I reserve a room in the tower with a balcony. When we check in we tell the clerk that this is what I have reserved. They smile and nod, and then hand me a key to the main building and a room with no balcony. Only once was there a case where there were no more tower rooms left. For every other hotel in the world where we are repeat guests the hotel recognizes this when we check in. But why not the Barcelo in Guatemala City, and why do they constantly disregard my reservation and words telling them what kind of room I reserved? Obviously, everything else is fine or we wouldn't keep going back there, mostly for the parking and convenience to the airport. But there has never been 1 single checkin where the desk didn't ignore the type of reserved room and my words before first putting us into a room without a balcony....which I require for the fresh air while sleeping due to a health condition.

Response to my request for the shuttle took too long. Once at the counter the reception was cold, impersonal, and the manager had to interrupt the 2 youngsters under her care to stop talking and help my wife with her check in. It was definitely not professional. Staff overall was courteous. When my group and I walked in to the bar we were stopped by a waiter demanding to know if we had reservations. Mind you, the bar was pretty much empty, but we felt as if we were not welcomed based on our appearance (backpacks and jeans). Restaurant staff were great, smiling and happy. Unfortunately on our last night a reception manager was determined not to let my brother get dinner because the later we received was for one person, even though it was the staff's mistake. She acted as if one extra meal was going to bankrupt the hotel, and her attitude was definitely unpleasant.

I was there on business and the hotel almost intentionally tried to make life difficult. At check-in and throughout the entire stay the front desk seemed overwhelmed with long lines and not enough employees checking in. There was no urgency or attempt to make customers feel better. When they made a mistake like not programming Keys correctly guests were made to go to the back of the line and wait all over again. I reserved a sweet with tables so that business colleagues could come work with me and they made the process difficult on my guests, interrogating them and checking IDs regularly. My colleagues also told me that when they tried to park at the hotel they were told to leave because they were not guests of the hotel.. customer service was mediocre to bad. Price is atrocious at $16 for a cocktail at the bar. The included breakfast and lunch wasn't worth being free. My room, the public areas, most all aspects of the hotel are incredibly dated, very simple and not what I would have expected for the area for prior reviews. And then finally their insistence to follow rules even when they're inconvenient and not in their best interest was obnoxious. I simply wanted to take a cup of coffee from the buffet which was free to my room and they wanted to charge me $10 to leave with a cup of coffee. I was welcome to stay and eat an entire buffet breakfast for free, or pay $10 to take a cup of coffee away.

I love the sports bar, Strikers! Their burgers are always fabulous! Hot tub and pool are great! I was a little disappointed, as I booked online, and the price that I was quoted was not honored. I was told it was because I went through a third-party vendor. I thought I had booked on the Barcelo’s website. I stay here at least three or four times a year. And sometimes I have a big team with me, as I do volunteer work in Guatemala, in the San Felipe Antigua area.
