Stayed 1 night

We had a delayed check-in as the toilet was faulty, plumber was fixing. We received complementary drinks while waiting. We were told if he hadn't fixed it they would have cancelled our booking even though we were there, after a 100 mile journey for a family party and checked in online!! No "we will accommodate you in another hotel!" The room obviously had had had a lot dogs staying in it. My husband's socks were covered in hairs and the smell of dog was dreadful. It was a very run down room , frayed carpets, paintwork badly marked, chunks out of woodwork . The plumber left bits everywhere, we had it vaccuumed when we went out, plus the bedroom carpet, as clearly it needed it. The mini bar contents (always check the mini bar!) bore no resemblance to the list. The internal door sounded like someone was using a battering ram to gain entrance every time the outside door was used. On the plus side the shower was great, a rain shower and hand-held attachment. No shower cap provided, so take one. The view was lovely, parking okay and quiet. We were going to stop for breakfast, but frankly, we couldn't wait to check out. Evan tried hard and gave us a miniature whisky and very small bottle of white wine as an apology. Shame we drink neither, but we took them anyway. Honestly? Never again. "pet friendly" rooms, should be hard floors, excellent cleaning and maybe a better description of the hotel to say, no rooms are dog free.

Our room was excellent. Lovely and clean. Large bed, Nespresso coffee, clean bathroom. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. The place was quite large with a lovely large fireplace , and the fire was lit as the weather was quite chilly when we stayed. This place will be even better in summer as there is a lovely outside area. Very dog friendly with dog hamper provided in the room. We will definately stay again.
