Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa- All Inclusive

The food was decent and the property was fine. The beach was very rocky and I wouldn't go in without my water shoes. The most irritating thing was the levels of exclusivity. No one explained what level we were when we, and which places we were excluded from using. We went to the tikki bar on the beach that was close to our room for the first four days, then we were told we didn't have the right bracelet to go to that bar. There were never enough chairs at the beach or the pool, and even though it's posted everywhere that guests aren't supposed to come save seats for later, everyone was doing it. When my husband went down one morning to put our towels on some chairs, an employee said he wasn't allowed to do that, even though everyone else was doing it. The nightly entertainment was not near as good as I've seen at other resorts.

Positives: Lush grounds with some wildlife, easy to navigate the grounds because the resort isn’t very big, being able to snorkel right off the beach. Being able to walk to the marina was really great - got to watch the dolphins and manatees. Negatives: couldn’t get into any of the restaurants, a pool/swim up bar was completely closed the whole time we were there and we were given no notice prior to arrival or when we checked in. Gym was closed the whole time we were there and no notice was given. Spa was closed the first three days we were there and no notice was given. Check in was very slow. The resort was ok, but we wouldn’t go back.

We just spent 10+ days at this resort. Good: Great service! Some of the most polite and kind staff we have encountered. Many languages spoken at the hotel and during activities or events they had plenty of interpreters to help navigate. This makes the trip so much more enjoyable for us, as it’s fun to interact and mingle with others from countries all over the world. The hotel grounds are immaculate. A big word, yes, but as you travel around to hotels and stay in 5 star hotels , it’s not hard to pick and see a flaw based on the price point. Could be running paint, unfinished repairs, or in some cases just poor craftsmanships. I’m telling you, this hotel, at least our room and tower were spotlessly clean. The grounds were kept, the pools were cleaned daily, there is zero trash laying around … that’s not only around the pools but the beach. See if you notice a sense of pride in ownership. You can see it. Food is great! IMO resort restaurants are mid - but they were all good. The local area has TONS of Options that are so good. Grab a golf cart and cruise around town- it’s a lot of fun. Gym is solid/ decent and good equipment. Sit on the beach: below the pool. Amazing! Bad: Not sure if this is bad, but it’s a more relaxed environment. Very family and baby boomer oriented. For us, that’s awesome! If you are looking to party, maybe not the place. So if you enjoy watching people fall over themselves each day, you won’t see it here. Great experience! 5star

Stayed here the end of April 2025. Meals were good, alcohol drinks very sweet, staff very friendly. Loved that even though there was sargassum in part of the baracaded area of the ocean there was a large area that never had any with great snorkeling and sandy area. Would not recomend swimming inthe lagoon due to jellyfish. 3 pools gave plenty of space to swim and always found loungers for our group of 11. The evening shows were anazing!

We have stayed here several times, first time after covid. They have made several changes that are not user friendly. Lots of people complained. They have dinner reservations online that is not user friendly and system was down alot. Some customer service agents could help and some could not. Our room upgrade took time and we were out of a room for over 5 hours then had 2 technicians come to fix A/C and still was not fixed. They took away several fun activities like bikes, tennis and archery. Food options were reduced. One buffet is under remodeling and closed for over a week. The Japanese restaurant used to be fun and interactive, it no longer has either. Grill used to have several appetizers options that was removed. Privilege restaurant is top of the stairs far away. Privilege pool was over populated, some are not privileged guest. Staff are friendly! Cleaning service is amazing and the spa was fantastic!

All the staff and peoples there were so friendly we stayed 7 nights. Lots to do kayak learn to surf and snorkel. Many pools many parties and entertainment! Many bars and fab cocktails. Food all around fresh and delicious! Beaches were clean and water was clear. Only down side was getting up at early to attempt to reserve dinner at one of the fancy restaurants on site 7:55am til 8:05 is your window to try to log on and the process is a pain also. I unfortunately see how that would make many couples have an argument first thing in the morning which is sad. Glad we went with friends they got into dinner some nights and a couple others we did. At the end everything was amazing!

a little smaller resort so it made it easier to get fom one spot to another. Could use another pool or try and make some bigger. a lot of small children in the swim up bar pool and the near by "party pool".buffet food was good but not a lot of variety.

Every year we go we get a cab to take us to Paradise Beach club near Tulum so we can get a day out on a beautiful beach. The resort does not have a big long beach, but it does have good snorkeling included. The rooms were newly renovated, the shower was great and there was American television. We did the privilege package, it included an extra restaurant to go too, which was nice if we didn’t have a reservation at a specialty restaurant, Access to another bar which was less wait for a drink during the day, I believe the renovated room and a spa circuit.

The room was clean and the housekeeping staff were wonderful. We booked a romance package so we arrived to fresh fruit, chocolates, and sparkling wine. Our AC unit worked but not as well as it should have, we talked to the front desk and the next day the maintenance people came and tried to fix it. It was better than when we got there, once they were done. All the staff was friendly and very helpful. The facility is a little bit older and the resort is smaller than some, but the food was fantastic and the bartenders were fun and attentive. I loved that we could walk down to the Marina area where there are stores and restaurants. The food both on and off the resort was great, but the tacos down by the Marina were AMAZING!!! Authentic and delicious. Safe walking there and back both day and night. Golf carts were available for rental also. The spas was also available and worth the money. Overall a great experience, just need to update the resort a bit.

We really enjoyed our stay. There were several things that we didn’t care for. The pools were very warm and not refreshing. The pools were also dirty and caused our suits to turn green from a film floating on top of the water. Our room was very nice and updated. However, our bed was extremely hard and caused my husband to have back pain throughout our stay. While most staff were friendly, there were some that seemed bothered when we would ask for something.

At checkout I asked why was mine orange when most others were purple for privilege, and they said: its because Expedia gives you extra rewards and perks. Would be nice to mention at checkin. Lady barely even looked our way as we came up, was looking annoyed by our presence, and was just not nice. I didnt want to ask a question because I didnt want to annoy her. Hotel lets in locals with a day pass, which they are not equipped to handle. Pools were overcrowded and filthy at times. Someone took one of our towels and they wanted to charhe me $30 at checkout for it, but forgave dt AC leak which I had to fight for. Buffet seating staff was rude at times when they saw us switch a chair (it had bird poop on it, a lot of chairs did since birds do fly in). We had a conditioner leak in the room our last evening there, leaked all over where our shoes were, so we drove back in wet shoes. Try to avoid the 4th floor because the ac can't cool it down to your desired temp, and the balcony area roof is fallen apart thanks to wind and birds so our swimsuits got wet with every rain. My brother stayed on 3rd floor and the balconies of the 4th covered them. As to the positives - sportsbar was really cool to hangout in, the food was really good, the privilege rooms were really nice in size and closet space and just all over comfy!

The resort was beautiful, clean and had great staff. Besides the beach being taken over by seaweed (which they were constantly trying to remove), the resort had no negatives. The food was excellent in all of the restaurants. We would definitely go back.

This is the first bad review we have ever left on a property after vacationing in Cancun area for the last 25 years and we hope we save someone else their hard earned money. This is a self service motel 6 resort. We booked 2 rooms one had needed 2 beds for 2 adults of different genders, we got two singles and a sorry that is all we have. Both rooms were nothing like the website both out of date and run down. The toilet in our room never stopped running and bad a horribly load squealing noise that they never fixed it was so load you couldn't sleep so I had to turn the water valve off and on when we wanted to use it. Asked multiple times to have it fixed no one showed up. The ceiling in the bathroom leaked so you couldn't leave anything on the counter of the bathroom as water constantly dripped out of the ceiling. This is the first resort we have stayed at that had no servers any where on the property, you had to get up and find one of the few bars to get a drink and they didn't open until 11:00. You have to use their terrible app to book reservations for the restaurants which open at 8:00 am. We had 4 adults on the app as soon as it opened and we were only able to get 2 reservations our entire stay. We made the best of our vacation but left with a feeling of being ripped off and there is nothing worse than wasting your money on a vacation. We heard multiple similar stories from other vacationers that we spoke to.

The staff is always great, and the food is great. The keep rhe beaches and the property super clean. They are always trying to improve your stay. The spa is wonderful the hydrotherapy is always refreshing after a nice massage.

To be honest I was disappointed it was our 35 th Anniversary and we got nothing. We were told we'd had something special. My husband talked to frt desk they promised lots but nothing. Food was so so, crepes were awesome Room had bugs, called house cleankng 8pm still nothing, finally the next day. One morning at 6am workers getting ladders, tools and talking loudly. Good thing we got a great deal $$

Mixed reviews on this one. Check in: Our reservations had the ages of our children wrong. When we checked in they said we had an additional charge of $1200. We already had additional taxes/fees charges (about $400 per room). Our upgraded privaleged suit did not have very good views..we faced the street. We were on the ground level and had kids but you could go into the patio to the room next to you. This seemed very unsafe unless you had both rooms. Which we had requested but were told they dint have adjoining rooms. We also reserved privelaged suite with 2 queen beds from expedia site; however those dont exist only king with sofa bed. Sofa bed was large enough so it worked out for the kids. Not as comfortable for our older son. Privelaged Upgrade: We did use the privelaged beach/pool area. It was very nice and clean. We didnt have a problem finding chairs. Our bartender at the privelaged bar was fantastic. Food: After reading reviews on dinner reservations, we booked our dinner reservations right after check in through the website. The check in staff did not mention this at all. It was pretty easy. However it still showed 2 infants so none of our reservations included our 2 kids. We had to fix it every time and hope they had room. We tried to fix it in advance but were told it was fine. Food was good. Service was good! People were friendly. We participated in many activities. Staff selling at pool and beach was pretty annoying.

I don't know that this was unique, but the grounds around the property were immaculate. The unit we stayed in (#8031) could've used a little TLC. Many of the outlets were broken, the ceiling fan was loud and made knocking sounds which made it hard to fall asleep and we had to have someone come and fix the AC unit within the first 10 minutes that we checked into the room because it was making a very loud screeching sound. At one time the electricity went out & we had to have someone come fix it.

The rooms need updating. More amenities. Better VIP perks, a premium club would be great! And TOP SHELF liquor for VIP!

Our stay at Catalonia Riviera Maya was great overall! I went with my family and husband. It was my parents’ first time staying at a resort in Mexico and they had a great time! Personally, this resort was better than the last Mexican resort I booked. I recommend paying extra for Privilege because of the extra perks - worth it! We stayed in one of the Privilege suites which was large and overall well-maintained. Some of the sliding doors seemed to be in need of repair though. Despite this, we were satisfied with the overall condition of the rooms and property. The staff were mostly accommodating and hospitable. Unfortunately, during check-out, we had an unsatisfactory experience. The front desk person who was helping us asked us for the beach towel cards; however, the towel staff that we gave our cards to on our first day didn’t return them to us (so we assumed they keep it and we get new ones later). When we explained this to the front desk staff, he told us to go back to the towel hut (a distant walk from lobby) to recover the cards as it was 30 USD per “lost” card. Our pickup van had already arrived so I told him that we wouldn’t be able to do that but he shrugged, said we were told about lost cards upon checkin (we weren’t) and told us we had to go get them ourselves. The female front desk staff next to him took over, called guest services/the towel hut, apologized, and sent us on our way - we’re thankful for her (didn’t get names but we checked out at 11:50 AM on July 7).

Been staying at hotel for 10 yrs. Have many friends ( staff) there that I look forward to seeing every yr. From the bellboys, cleaners, restaurant staff, bar tenders, customer service, maintenance, gardeners & the entertainment both pool & dancers. They are all an exceptional team & I love them like family.

Overall a good stay for me but not others in my party. you can hear the cleaning staff at all hours of the day, 6 am to 10 pm. Check in was very difficult because we booked though Expedia and had issues with the number of people in the room and the hotel could not help at all, so i had to sit on the phone with Expedia for 2 hours to get it sorted to even have a place to stay. the hotel is not flexible at all, but Expedia was nice. the restaurants were booked up 4 out of the 5 nights we stayed. All but 1 bar is open after 7 pm. The shows were amazing, and we enjoyed them the most. the room service on the app only worked the first night and did not work the rest of the trip. overall, i enjoyed the relaxing stay but it's not a lot of night life or activities for someone in their young twenties.

In most, I liked the place! The staff is awesome, friendly, and professional. The entertainment team made the day go fast, very fun. The restaurants also were great. My concern is about the beach, rocky and the water was not clear. Is it possible to removes the rocks, so it’s easier for us to go to the water and enjoy?

This was a very fun all inclusive. Be sure to check the time of year so that the sea weed doesn’t block your access to the ocean. The wait staff was amazing, kind and welcoming. Front desk was not so helpful. Check out was not easy and not clear .

The property and the area around the property is extremely safe. My family and i rented a glof cart and drove all over the compound. We found hidden parks and beaches. We left the resort and ventured out almost eveyday

We just returned from our second year in a row at Catalonia Riviera Maya, and overall, it was another great vacation! The resort continues to impress with its beautiful setting, multiple pools, and plenty of bars and lounging areas to relax in throughout the day. The highlight, once again, was the service and food — the staff is consistently friendly and helpful, and the à la carte restaurants were outstanding. Special mention to the BLoved Restaurant, which was truly amazing, and The Grill, which served up some really great meals. One downside this time was that it was almost impossible to get reservations at the à la carte restaurants, even with Privilege status. Luckily, we managed to book a couple on the first day, but after that, everything was booked up fast. As for the room, it was okay — we probably won’t book one with a sofa bed again, as it wasn’t the most comfortable. We also had a couple of days without hot water, though the water temperature was still tolerable, so it didn’t affect us too much. Despite a few hiccups, the hospitality, food, and overall atmosphere made for a great stay. We’d still recommend this resort, especially for the food and service — just try to book your restaurant reservations as early as possible!

2nd time here, brought the family and we all had a great time. Weather could’ve been better but the resort and staff were top notch! The resort is conveniently located between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Cancun would be an additional 40 minutes from Playa del Carmen. Also have a Chedraui and a movie theater right across the way from the property. All around convenient as hell!!!

Catalonia was beautiful. The staff was super friendly and helpful. It was easy to navigate and had many options for food. It is walking distance to a small gated community area with restaurants, shops and dolphins that you can watch swimming and diving. My only critique would be that the a la cartes were difficult to book. The beach was rocky but also not crazy busy like other resorts I have been making it enjoyable. We look forward to returning.

This property is in a gated community, which makes you feel very safe. A five dollar taxi ride to the market, or a 15 minute walk. All the staff at the resort were amazing, the beach was something to be desired, and every day we were there it was too windy to enjoy the ocean. That being said, we did enjoy the lagoon.

The resort was very accommodating and the workers were very friendly and helpful. Ivan especially went out of his way to help us. I felt very safe as this resort was in a gated community where we could go out and do some shopping and see the marina. The beach was nice for swimming and snorkeling. My only complaint was the room doors where very heavy and when they closed the made a very loud bang that kept us up at night from the guest who where coming in late. The rooms where very nice and clean.

Mutilple beaches, a lagoon, several pools. Upgrading to privileged room and services is a must. Room was modern and very clean. Food was good, our favorite was the grill station where they made either, fish, chicken, or pork fresh in front of you. Japanese restaurant and steakhouse were also great. Biggest plus is the fact that the resort is in a gated community which makes things super safe for off resort strolls to the town.

I had an amazing time in Catalonia. The room was clean and modern. The staff very friendly and warm. Safe area, nice food and options. Convenient location if you want go on the tours for the parks, cenotes, etc…

The hotel was nice, staff was very nice but the reservations for the restaurants were ridiculous. Every day you have to make your restaurant reservations after 8am and by 8:01am there was no availability.. like who wants to wake up on vacation everyday by 8am to reserve..

Everything was great while visiting Catalonia Riviera Maya! We stayed over Christmas and New Year's, and the festivities were great for both! One major downfall is their restaurant reservation system. We had four people, two people in two rooms. The reservation system would only let us pick up to two people, I put "4 people" in the notes section and in the section that asked how many people in your room and it only worked once. We got turned away once and had to clarify ahead of time for two restaurants who couldn't promise us a spot, but did end up getting us in. Just a little frustrating when you're not wanting the buffet again and want to have a nice meal with your family. Otherwise, everything was great! And the entertainment group was great, including the pool entertainment and the shows at night!

We’d still recommend this resort, especially for the food and service — just try to book your restaurant reservations as early as possible!

The staff was amazing. However, the food options at the buffets were no good. In order to have a “decent” meal you have to make reservations at the theme restaurants. Also, the drinks are “all inclusive” but only for the cheap liquor. To get mid grade liquors like Patron, Malibu or Jack , you have to be a “Gold member”. Other than that. It was a pleasant experience.

Food was ok but very repetitive, alcohol was very poor quality so that all of the drinks taste horrible including the mix drinks like Pina Coladas. Disappointed as that is part of the tropical experience that we look forward to in Mexico .

The biggest problem at this resort is the limited food options available. The buffets are terrible and it was impossible to get a reservation at any of their 4 restaurants. The reservation system seems ridiculous at best! You have to wake up at 7:45 am (on vacation!!) because the reservation opens at 8am daily, but don’t worry because you won’t get one anyway! It fills up by 8:02!! There are better resorts with better food options and better reservation systems.

Great dining options

This was my third time at this resort. It is clean, the food is good and everything is walkable. Every year we go we get a cab to take us to Paradise Beach club near Tulum so we can get a day out on a beautiful beach. The resort does not have a big long beach, but it does have good snorkeling included. The rooms were newly renovated, the shower was great and there was American television. We did the privilege package, it included an extra restaurant to go too, which was nice if we didn’t have a reservation at a specialty restaurant, Access to another bar which was less wait for a drink during the day, I believe the renovated room and a spa circuit.

We were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed with upgraded perks such as complimentary spa offers and discounts, a private pool and beach access and access to the adjoining resort facilities. We were pleased with the food at the a la carte options. However, accessing them was a logistical nightmare. The online access was down. This required guests to line up daily at 7:30 am to TRY to get a booking for that day. On our second last day, I was first in a line of 25, and was still unable to access any a la carte restaurant for that day. No one was able to book. There is no advance booking- I don’t understand the issue. It must be improved. One other concern was the use of artificial sweeteners in the bar mixes. We all ended up choosing non-choice drinks due to this practice- not only is it an unpleasant aftertaste, it causes migraines in one of our party. We switched to clear drinks like gin and tonic instead of delicious fancy drinks which was disappointing. The juice bar was a real treat, and we utilized it daily. We found the choices for vegetarians and healthy eaters were plenty. The crepe stand was a lovely choice, and the availability of cappuccino at most locations was a bonus. We enjoyed the evening activities and the entertainment and animation staff were wonderful and sometimes hilarious! The dancers in the Latin show were truly world class. Overall, with those small bits of feedback, it was an exceptional vacation and we will certainly try to return.

It was my first time at an all-inclusive but my friends and I had a wonderful time! There were 8 of us and we had no issues booking reservations to the restaurants (by the way, these are included in the price and you don’t have to pay extra unless you order some nice wine or their special menu). The food was great, lots of variety and options for people wanting to eat Mexican food or generic American fare. My favourites were the steakhouse and Mexican restaurant, but I would personally skip the Japanese restaurant because I found it a bit bland. The drinks were good too, although I’m not much of a drinker. The beach was a bit rocky to get in and I would recommend using the Yucatan beach instead. The pools were great and never felt crowded. They also offer a free shuttle to visit nearby Playa del Carmen which was great to pick up some souvenirs and go out for an excursion. The local area is also really cute and has dolphins nearby. Finally, I have to give a big shout out to the staff who were some of the nicest people and really accommodating. Especially a big shoutout to Kevin and Irving for taking shots with us when we arrived! I had a great time and would love to come back.
