Good location and value for money. The pool and gym are a little dated but large and usable with a friendly feeling.

Just stayed one night, used the pool and sauna it was very relaxing. Had a good night sleep. Had a budget room but was good value for what we paid.

Awful, the restaurant was only serving a buffet which in this weather I had no idea how long had been sitting there. The bar staff were incompetent, when mentioned to the reception staff they did nothing. The bathroom fan and one of the plugs in the room didn’t work. You had to pay extra to use the pool which was not advertised until getting to the hotel and they wanted £7 to have internet in the room. This was in the small print but who charges for basic internet in this day and age. When I checked out I was not asked how my stay was, I am guessing this is that they know all the problems

This was a very basic room, which was absolutely fine for my needs, very clean & tidy however it was clearly a room that was repurposed as it had a bright green safety light that someone had covered with a sock - clearly to help them get some sleep! Despite the sock coverage the room still had a green glow to it all night long!! The gym has definitely seen better days & in need of an upgrade. 2 of 4 treadmills out of order & boiling hot made it quite uncomfortable. Additionally, what they don’t tell you on booking is that it costs £4 to use the gym/pool. Obviously that’s cheaper than most gyms but as a resident I didn’t expect to have to pay extra to use these facilities. This hotel is absolutely fine if you’re after a cheap & cheerful (and clean!) overnight for work

Initially I was disappointed at the £4 fee to use the pool for guests which I didn't realise. On arrival the car park was full, and I had to go to the overflow. Felt like the car park could be better managed, and the overflow car park needed lines painting, some surface work and maybe a little light. The hotel has many theatrical elements (photogenic areas) for events and the pool looked nice (didn't use). I didn't try the food but it looked average at the bar, but may have been nicer elsewhere. The room was well presented and comfortable... and even though it's a busy hotel I had excellent sleep. The mini fridge was a really nice addition to keep drinks cools. So overall a mixed entry. I would be happy to stay again but probably only when the prices are low. But certainly nothing that spoilws my stay.

Place seemed nice enough although it's got bad ratings. I suppose people book through hotels, see the pool and fitness centre but when you turn up and you have to pay £4, that just stinks. That time it down to a 3 star rating but the amazing food I had in the restaurant took it back up to 4 stars. Just put the price up a couple of quid and give everyone access for Freeman's

This is an old hotel. But the rooms are big, the bathrooms are big. Food portions were generous and modestly priced. The pool was good, steam room and sauna nice and hot. And the price was great

Receptionist is very rude. The hotel tried to charge me £4 for using the gym facilities, per night! Hotel is very old and needs updating. Food not great.

Pool and Spa are dirty, steam room broken, breakfast was nice but staff annoyingly chatting rubbish to each other the whole time about seating arrangements for their 1 guest.

The room smelt like stale cigarette smoke and the bathroom was dirty and smelt like mould. However the communal areas seemed ok.

The overall cleanliness wasnt very good we wnt half board food was awful , bar closed early while guest were still drinking , was looking forward to the spa which we found but was green and covered very disappointed as booked it for my friends birthday

The bed was uncomfortable, the shower was dirty and the room was cold. I hardly had any sleep and the cold tap in the toilet delivered very hot water - as did the hot tap and the toilet. I never want to go to that hotel agsin

Hotel was very clean, easy to park. I am asthmatic and find some cleaning products aggrevate me so I messaged and asked if they could leave a window open for the room to air which they kindly did. The one thing that spoilt it for me was when I went to Reception and asked if I could have either another duvet or mattress topper that I could put under the sheet due to me having metal work in my back and finding the bed a little firm, I was told they didn't have any spare, which I find very hard to believe. My room was on the ground floor round the side of the hotel, it was lovely and quiet.

The hotel room was excellent. Clean and fresh with lovely bathroom and soft white fluffy towels. The whole of the hotel was immaculate with good carpeting.

Stayed in room 103 , net curtains were mouldy , room smelt damp made me feel.ill coulndt sleep due to the overwhelming smell , xhecked out at 7am to go and sleep in the car for a few hours

Check in was quick & easy. Room (and hotel) were clean & tidy.

On arrival are room was ready, hotel reception extremely helpful. Room was cosy and clean.

Comfortable bed, decent shower but everything is looking very tired and dated. Looks like it was last updated in the 80’s. Check in process pretty rubbish, took my name, asked for payment and done in a couple of minutes so from a speed perspective it was great except I wasn’t in a hurry and wasn’t given any details about food options, no info regarding the leisure centre or anything else for that matter. I booked this as I needed a cheap place to stay, it ticked that box so I can’t complain, ok for the money paid.

Main issue was it was quite cold and they had not turned the heating on in rooms. Got several excuses, goes on for 4 hours then off for 4 hours, only just got HQs permission to turn it on, will take some time, but in 2 days we had 0 heating. No spare bedding in room, eventually after lots of complaining they found one rather tired looking fleece blanket for our twin room.

The coldest hotel I’ve ever stayed in! The reception was freezing. The bar was freezing. The corridors were freezing. The rooms were freezing. I was literally shivering walking to my room. Once in the room, I couldn’t find a temperature gauge to increase the temperature. Got in the bed wearing my clothes.It was warmer outside. In addition very shocked to find out that at 830pm on a Saturday night there was no food or restaurant just crisps.

The hotel was beautiful, clean, and very presentable. The room itself was nice; however, I was disappointed that it had no windows. It felt very enclosed and could be uncomfortable for guests who prefer natural light.

Only stayed here one night, the room was clean and decent. There were no windows and you have to pay for wifi in your room, which we didn’t do. It got quite hot at night and we tried turning the fan on, but it didn’t work. My partner went down to reception to see if there was a replacement, but no one was there. My partner called me while at reception to tell me this and was wondering what to do next, as the bell didn’t work. This is when a friend of the receptionist came out of the bar area. The receptionist immediately got up from hiding behind the desk and went to talk to his friend. His friend was repeatedly saying that there’s someone at the desk waiting for him, but he ignored this and waited for the conversation to be over before finally attending to my partner. He had positioned himself out of my partner’s eyesight, but was so close that he could hear our phone conversation and was well aware that someone was needing his help. He said there was nothing he could do and that someone would drop off a new fan. We knew this wouldn’t happen in the night, and it didn’t so we just suffered with the hot room.

Room was a bit tired but cleanliness was acceptable, maybe we were put in one of the worst rroms because we had our dog with us. Was an extremely hot day when we arrived and room was very hot as it was in the eves under the roof with no working air conditioning. Staff were friendly, breakfast was good..

The hotel in general was lovely, very clean, comfortable, looks appealing. The staff however let it down. I arrived late because of my job, I did ring in advance to make sure this was ok and I was told it was a 24 he front desk and not to worry. When I arrived at 2am no one was on the desk, I did hear voices coming from a large room behind me. Two members of staff were sitting on a sofa possibly having a break. I asked if anyone was on the front desk and I got a mutter in return saying yes someone should be there. I called out for assistance but no answer. I waited another 5 Mins or so and shouted for assistance. A lady came running from the back, checked me in and then sent me on a a maze hunt to find my room. Which was NOT noted on any room signs. (This is a big hotel with lots of floors in many directions) after 15 mins of searching I went back to the reception. The lady then escorted me to the other end of the hotel. No wonder I couldn’t find it. I had a pleasant stay and paid for a late check out. However the maids were baisically waiting out side my room with a hoover and cleaning trolley from 10am - 12pm chatting and giggling leading to a pointless late checkout as it woke me. Hotels nice but I don’t think I’ll stay again, simply bad service. Let down

Absolutely lovely stay the receptionist was so help full changed our room as my mum cant do stairs he was so helpful and polite and friendly. All staff were very friendly.

I stayed here twice recently and unfortunately although the staff are excellent, the hotel is very tired. On the positive side, parking is good and food/drinks very reasonable. On the negative side the rooms are only made/restocked 1 in every 4 nights, dated with heavily worn furnishings. 3 out of 6 evening meals were incorrectly served (chips not mash, pizza toppings missing but charged for, etc), a noisy extraction fan runs constantly in the bathroom and unable to switch off (my hearing is not the best and i sleep soundly, but it did keep me awake), the bar was severely understaffed (1 person) and the restaurant closed (3 nights). Food was served at the bar though and the barman was excellent , doing both food and drinks on a very busy night on his own. One morning at breakfast there was no milk and an employee had to go to the local shop - people had actually put cereal into their bowls but couldn't eat it. Looking back i found it laughable - almost unbelievable, but this is actually very poor. I apologise to the lovely staff who were without exception excellent, but i thought it was important for other travellers to leave this honest feedback.

The staff at this hotel were outstanding. Without a doubt the best customer service we have received anywhere in a long time. Miranda at the front desk was so welcoming & helpful. We also had fantastic service at dinner in the bar, they were super accommodating to our children, there wasn’t a children menu but they offered to make them child friendly meals. Simon our waiter was so friendly & nothing was too much trouble. The food here is delicious, don’t stay without eating here. I would come to this hotel just to eat! The pool here is lovely, so warm & with young children that’s important. Seating is available round the pool so if you have older children you can just sit in comfort & watch. Again the staff in the leisure centre are very helpful & friendly. We didn’t come across one member of staff who wasn’t kind & engaged with guests. The room was large, the bathroom & brown carpet needed an update but it was clean & functional. Location close to M3 is also great & the fact they allow dogs is a huge plus. Overall a wonderful stay.

Shame as the pictures looked so good. When we arrived the person who was at the reception desk was more interested in sorting through drink chits and asked me to wait, it was 15 minutes. They said that there was no booking for us and that they were full, even after I offered up my confirmation number. Then he went off leaving me at reception, then returned 10 minutes later and said that he had found me a room. In the room the door on the cupboard was hanging off, although the room was fine.

We enjoyed our stay at the Basingstoke Country Hotel. Accommodation very spacious and lovely and warm. Staff extremely welcoming and accommodating. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Decor is quite dated and in need of a revamp, but the place is clean and staff are friendly and helpful. Spent 2 nights here with my partner and overall we enjoyed it. Good location and very reasonably priced. Would definitely come back again.

**Positive:** The hotel is a dog-friendly establishment, which is a massive bonus if you have one. The location is lovely and allows for a walk in the wooded area nearby. Compared to other places in the region with fewer facilities, this hotel is extremely good value for all of the amenities offered, and the rooms are charming. **Negative:** My room was extremely hot, and there was no air conditioning. Additionally, there’s an extra charge to use the spa facility, which includes a sauna, steam room, and swimming pool. I didn’t try the restaurant. **Positive:** I booked three rooms for two nights for colleagues and they see both seemed happy, one of them used the gym and seemed satisfied. Overall, the hotel provided great value. Despite some drawbacks, the dog-friendly policy, beautiful location, and range of facilities made it a worthwhile stay.

Good stay. Been here twice, although on the second most recent stay, the room looked a lot more dated and wasn’t as nice as the first which looked very good. Nice hotel, with easy travel to Basingstoke town centre.

For the price it's a good hotel and it's improved over the years, it's a little dated but clean, spacious, good food, the lady who looks after the area at breakfast always keeps the place spotless and inviting, and the breakfast choice is great so much to choose from. Free parking and a gym pool with steam room and sauna for a little extra money. I have visited a few time now and visit with family, staff can be polite and professional and others a bit hit and miss i.e a bit moody on isolated occasions. Worth a visit if you are in the area and need a stop over or short stay.

Like: luxurious bedroom size and bathroom Dislike: cannot cater for gluten free (or rather they can but half your meal will be missing e.g. mushrooms, tomatoes or any veg will be somehow battered, breadcrumbed and no good for gluten free people like me). They did manage to bring me some lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes after requests for some veg to go with the overly cooked steak (I asked for medium rare and it came out almost burnt all the way through). The room was lovely but lacked the high finish touch. E.g. bathroom tiles cracked or missing grout. Corroded taps. The radiators were on in the hallways during the 28 degree hot days we've just had. There was only 1 very small window to open so it was extremely hot throughout the night despite having the fan on high speed on me throughout. There is a pool but you have to pay daily to use it. Same for the gym. After paying for the hotel stay, you'd expect this to be part of the hotel offering. Same with the food - if you book early, you get a discount. I went to book early and they told me I was too late to book for later that night. There is no cut-off time listed but in the end, I was told that I should not eat there by the receptionist because it was a buffet and cannot cater for gluten free. Therefore I was redirected to the bar which is where I had further difficulties mentioned earlier. Overall - Good location & parking, nice sized bedroom, lovely garden area. Could do with air con and special diet training.

Mediocre at best. Majority of the evening meal menu unavailable, what was served was questionable, and served only in the bar area which consisted of a selection of decrepit sofas. Breakfast took 25 mins for scrambled eggs despite an empty restaurant (apparently chef forgot!?). The bed was comfortable, and the shower pleasant if tired looking. More Fawlty Towers than Country Retreat.

The check in was fine, room was ok, pillows very uncomfortable, shower was good. The changing rooms at the pool left a lot to be desired. Changing room with a hole where the lock should be, so attempting to change in private was stressful with the possibility of someone pulling open the door. The restaurant was awful. Arrived at 1850, left at 2110. This experience spoiled what had been a nice day. I had symapathy for the waitress, although it wasn’t terribly busy but I do understand that things can go wrong. However my sympathy evaporated after she brought my main after well over an hour wait and I asked if my dessert could be brought straight out ( I didn’t want to finish my main and then have another 30/45 min wait) Alas, this is exactly what happened after TWICE being asked by two other staff members what my dessert was and also after the couple across from me, who came in well after me receiving their dessert not even 5 minutes after ordering. It was farcical and not even an explanation, just an empty, I’m sorry for your wait.

This was good. Nice gym decent size rooms. Comfortable. The restaurants have daily meal speacials with a drink that are a good value.

Before arriving at 8,45pm on a Sunday I rang the hotel to check if food was available. I was assured it was if I ordered before 9pm. When I arrived well before 9pm I was told the kitchen had closed. The person on the front desk told me was hungry too, which didnt help at all. He could rang me or messaged me to let me know there was no food but he did not. Otherwise the hotel is average and a relic from an earlier decade, the rooms are ok and clean and cheap which which is a consideration - I recommend not having the breakfast though :(

Free car parking. Comfortable bed and good shower. Excellent evening meal with good red wine. Self service breakfast was excellent too. Highly Recommended
