Guyers House Hotel and Restaurant

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the room was quiet and comfortable! The only snag was the intermittent charging for our EVs... Otherwise excellent.

A beautiful old building in lovely grounds.

An established and historic hotel built of Bath stone just outside Corsham,Wilts off the A4 road to Bath. The grounds of 2/3 acres are beautifully maintained and with a tennis court. Excellent all round

An overnight return visit after 12 years. All staff served us well. Room was comfortable and clean. Room starting to look tired in places e.g. bathroom window difficult to open, screws to handle loose and missing. There is an annoying noise by the electric charger parking area, generator or the like. Would have been a pain if we were sitting outside. But didn't hear in room. Lovely well kept garden areas.

This was a beautiful, unique place to stay. The grounds were nice to walk around and the facilities were top notch. Would definitely stay there again!

Guyers house is located in a quiet rural spot. Its a great house with alot of history, sympathetically maintained. The rooms are comfortable with views of the grounds. This is my second stay and i will be back. Lots of choice for breakfast. Simple but good evening meals. Seperate bar lounge if required. Easy parking. Fantastic night sleep

Staff at guyers were friendly, welcoming & helpful. We stayed there overnight after a wedding at the venue. The grounds are beautiful & we had a lovely view of the garden and pond from our window. The room was quaint with oak beams and the bed was super comfortable. There was a kettle & plenty of choice of hot drinks, also complementary toiletries & super fluffy towels. Our room and bathroom were very clean I only gave 4 stars for condition & facilities due to a leaking tap on the bath(a very small issue)! Breakfast was self serve as it was a Saturday morning, lots of choices from cereals, fresh fruit, full English, toast& drinks and you could eat as much as you wanted. Very enjoyable, before our journey home. There was plenty of parking. Useful items included, Tv, phone, hairdryer plus an iron & ironing board. We would love to visit again in the future 😊

The hotel buildings are lovely and are set in the most wonderful grounds, worthy of being an open garden in their own right. Our room was comfortable. On arrival we asked for afternoon tea but no cake or scones were available and we were presented with a plate of hobnob biscuits which was a bit of a let-down. The evening meal was fine but surprisingly we were the only guests sitting in an empty dining room which was on the chilly side. The breakfast buffet was very underwhelming although the cooked food was excellent. The hotel is sadly let down by its interior decor which simply doesn't match the style of the building. The dining area is sterile and uninviting with an odd collection of pictures on the wall which reinforced the fact that the place doesn't quite know what it's trying to be. The furnishings were reminiscent of a cafeteria or care home rather than an elegant country house. Something is going wrong if a hotel with such potential is empty over Easter weekend. Call in the hotel inspector and get the rooms fully booked. This place should be making a fortune with such magnificent grounds and buildings.

Incredibly beautiful and peaceful establishment. Everything from the room, to the surrounding buildings, and even the grounds were well kept and serene. Made us truly feel like we were back in the 1800s. They even offer charging for electric vehicles which was extremely convenient and allowed us to fully relax and enjoy our stay. Can’t wait to go back!

Lovely old building and gardens. The room could definitely do with a lick of paint, dirty walls. Invasion of insects in the room (lots of ladybirds bugs and dead flies). On occasion no heating nor hot water in room. No apologies offered. £50 retainer after having paid in advance at check-in. Never had to do that before in a hotel anywhere in the world.

The hotel is in a lovely setting, nice and quiet and in a ideal location. The staff was very friendly and the bed was very comfortable. Now for the bad bits. The room that we had was in a horrible state, there was stains on the carpet, stains on the bed and cobwebs around the room. The bathroom, well, there was paint flaking off all around the coving, cracks in the walls. The cistern lid had a big chip on it. The hole room needs decorating. The breakfast was very overpriced for what you get if you bought it at the hotel.

From check-in to check-out my experience was exemplary. On arrival the view of the hotel was stunning. Check-in was efficient and I was soon in my room which was spacious and spotless. Before dinner I went to the (also spotless) bar for an aperitif. Good selection of drinks to choose from, I tried the Orchard Pig cider and was satisfied with my choice. Dinner menu was refined with a good variety. I had a melt in the mouth steak for mains after a Ham Hock Terrine. Service was faultless. I retired to a very comfortable bed and had a pleasant night's sleep. In the morning I went to the (again) spotlessly clean breakfast room. The breakfast menu was very appetising but I only had cereal as I had a long drive home and didn't want to be uncomfortably full. I visited Chippenham to watch a football match and will definitely book Guyers House Hotel when I come here next year

Pleasantly surprised. Beautiful surroundings, comfortable clean room. Breakfast good. Evening meal excellent and everything made better by helpful, pleasant staff. Would return again👍

Constructive criticism: The staff were all very friendly and pleasant, but were not properly trained; 45 minutes' - 60 minutes' wait for dinner order even to be taken, and then only by beckoning a member of staff - there were too few of them. Some diners who came into dining room first were apparently unnoticed, and those who entered later appeared to be have their order taken first - no real organisation. Bed linen and towels were clean and fresh. Availability of hot water in bathroom was inconsistent. There were occasional wood lice crawling around the bedroom - I know this happens in older properties; what should have been dealt with (and wasn't during my 48 hours' stay) were the dead wood lice on landings and stairways; these should have been vacuumed up fairly promptly but they remained there throughout my entire stay. It is a beautiful building, as are the grounds, but it is very tired everywhere - and I think that it is very, VERY expensive for what is offered.

Although the gardens are lovely, this hotel is fairly old fashioned. My room was bright however the sheets were not clean, there were bad marks on the carpet, and the room smelt of smoke. The fire alarm went off 3 or 4 times during the night, and I spent over an hour outside in the middle of the night, and then I was woken early by the inconsiderate and noisy ladies servicing other rooms. On contacting the hotel - who took about 2 weeks and various chasers - to reply - they were unwilling to make amends and would not offer any compensation for the terrible night I endured. I had been looking forward to a much needed, nice relaxing evening away from home - in a clean room, and this was not provided. I cannot therefore recommend this hotel.

The hotel states fresh local produce, breakfast was hard bacon, strange tasting sausages (not edible) tinned button mushrooms and almost £19 - really?? As per another’s review mould in bathroom, paint flaking on woodwork, dirty walls, quilt cover far too small for the bed, one coffee pouch and one chocolate pouch in a double room. Paid the extra £50 for 2 dogs, and for that you expect the rooms to be clean. Would not recommend and definitely would not stay ever again - the owner seriously needs to update everything or close the place

My room was nice and simple for a single man travelling with work. The bath could have done with a thorough scrub to make it shiny white but that would hardly make a difference to my experience. The shower was slightly tempermental in room 5 and in the evening whilst in bed, foot traffic noise travels considerably making what was a long day a bit frustrating when I'd finally got to bed. My biggest bugbear though is the £50 pre-auth charge they take. Second time I've stayed there and it took 5 weeks for money to come back to me and expecting the same again. If you're there for a long term stay I can understand but for one night as a former guest it seems uneccessary.

Beautiful location and buildings, with nice gardens. However we had to wait 5 minutes before someone could check us in. The room carpet was quite worn and dirty, a teaspoon was stained with lipstick. Showering was a bad experience as the water wasn't very hot. Poor acoustic insulation made the sleep disrupted, especially squeaky boards were heard at nighttime. The breakfast was ok, by the way.

Country Manor House a little rough around the edges but very nice, had the upgraded superior room which was very large the downside was the noise from reception could be heard and noises from freezer could be heard all night but I would stay again

Hotels location is great, gardens are beautiful and beautifully kept... the walks around and wildlife around the hotel are amazing, our room, number 35 in the garden room felt tired, peeling paint in the bathroom, unfunishd decorating arount tv fittings, the 2 single beds are on there last legs and very noisy when you move, We didnt eat here, tried to get breakfast but its £20 and the stressed looking chef who was also serving breakfast said there was no eggs so i left it and had just coffee instead

Staff were polite. Decided not to stay for dinner as a few items on the menu weren’t available, breakfast was good. Room was ok but couldn’t get the heating to work and the general decor and fittings looked shabby.

The bedroom and ensuite was small and a little outdated but the rest of the premises was superb and I will return.

Nothing like shown on the website. Our bedroom was aged with marked decor and carpets, a 1980s cane headboard which creaked everytime we moved, bed linen which didn’t fit the duvet or pillows, a sad bathroom with a leaking shower only suitable for a dwarf. The system ran out of hot water before we had both showered. Breakfast was indifferent….

The location and property is spectacular. The room offered itself though was basic.

We have stayed at Guyers before but it now seems to be struggling to maintain standards. We had a very good dinner at a great Hotels.com rate (£24 each compared with the hotel’s £35 rate) but breakfast was disappointing - the choices advertised on the website were just not available. We were able to get poached eggs but people after us were told that the staff were too busy to do fried or poached eggs. Reception did not answer the phone when we tried to book a time for dinner in advance (again told “too busy” when we mentioned this on arrival). On the positive side, Guyers House and gardens are very attractive and some staff were trying very hard in what seemed to be difficult circumstances.

The setting is lovely and on the outside the building is beautiful but on the inside the best I can say is it\'s tired. I know these old buildings are difficult to maintain but a lick of paint wouldn\'t go a miss. The housekeeping staff were friendly and the room was spotless. Breakfast was where this places shows it\'s true colours. There are warning that if want anything extra it will be chargeable, the full english was okay, nothing special, but the "breakfast buffet" was a joke, a few cereal packets and cheap sliced bread. Nothing else. No croissants, no cheese or ham. The older waiting staff are grumpy and the young waitresses looked terrified. No "good morning" just a gruff "Tea or coffee?" It is almost like they have transported a 1950s cheap b&b complete with grouchy landlady and planted it into a beautiful country house. Would I go again? No, if you like old building, stay at a Premier Inn and with the money you save get a National Trust membership.

The restaurant was awful things off the menu not told about starts or main courses dirty glasses and cutlery long delays for food arriving and then the wrong food. Six people got up and left the wait was so long Such a shame as a lovely venue with beautiful gardens and a lovely old building

This hotel was stunning! We loved the buildings, and the grounds that we were able to stroll around. We had a dog with us, and he was provided with a bed for his stay, and also a toy to take home with him. The staff that we met were lovely, and the service was great. We had breakfast each morning (served in the bar because the dog wasn't allowed in the restaurant), and it was delicious each time. Everyone needs to go and stay here! Our room was very comfortable. The only slight negative was that there were some minor bits of maintenance needed in our room. Other than that, it was a perfect stay, and I would happily go back.

understaffed, waited 15 minutes before i found a staff member to check-in. One staff floating across bar, reception and restaurant. Breakfast again short staffed, no milk, no one taking orders, no spoons on table or salt/pepper just couldnt handle efficently 6 people at once at 730am Room not clean dead flies on window ledge and floor

This property was a find! We stayed in the coach house and loved it. It was very quiet despite a wedding and reception on site by chance coinciding with our visit. The only issue was finding the house, but thank God for Google maps!

Great location for visiting the area, and close enough to town for walking in. Lovely looking old building in stunning grounds. Very helpful, polite and friendly staff. Room was pretty basic without much style, and bathroom looked a bit tired. Loads of cobwebs around the bathroom window and coffee drips on door in breakfast room, that looked like they had been there a while. Overall, this lovely old building looked and felt somewhat dated & neglected inside and may have been understaffed, as the staff tried really hard but seemed rushed off their feet.

Meals are becoming expensive at this convenient location which detracts from the overall experience

Food inedible constantly missing items ie no mushrooms for breakfast sausages cold and dehydrated waited Over 40 minutes before being told lost our order so left as nobody offered reasonable exc

Well I have to be honest it’s rather Fawlty Towers but run by very young people with no experience. The hotel itself is nice, and location is good. Some staff were helpful, others not so much, the receptionist was completely pointless and I might have just checked myself in. Do not go near the food, dinner and breakfast were dreadful. When I asked I was told there was no qualified chef on site, this was the weekend!

Weather was lovely, stay very comfortable, evenibg meal and breakfast lovely. Rooms are very tired, but clean. Staff very attentive and help full.

Room was not ready on arrival, the room had not been used, the heating was off and it was very cold. Staff were courteous and turned heating on which took a while to heat up, especially the hot water. We pre-booked for our dog to be in the room with us, but the promised bed, bowl and welcome pack was not provided, but we did not have to pay the extra charge for this. Breakfast was hugely disappointing with no tomato or hash brown in the "full" english and the remainder, with the sole exception of the egg was dried out, I guess having been kept warm for far too long. We didn't have time to say anything until checkout when the receptionist said she would mention this to the chef. We appreciate we have to eat in the bar with our dog, but this was also cold.

Bathroom would welcome refurbishment. Hotel should have made it clear on website that that dining menu would be limited to a Xmas menu.
