Dirty, badly maintained rooms and dining areas. Cobwebs everywhere I had to dispatch 6 spiders from our bedroom and shower room. Room was so hot and stuffy but opening windows let swarms of insects and wasps in. Had to ask for fly killer and an extra fan that turned up filthy caked in dust( see picture). Chairs and side lamp shades in the room looked like they had never been vacuumed, dirt etc in corners. Carpet filthy, Shower caked in black mould. 1 hand towel for two! Servicing of the room on first morning consisted of changing towels ( still only 1hand towel) and just throwing bed covers back over the bed with a pillow that looked like that also had been positioned from a distance. They didn’t have to wash glasses and tea cups as we always do that our selves so couldn’t have been pushed for time! Cooked breakfast was ok but again filthy rims of juice glasses. Dining tables chairs and whole area lacked a damn good clean. We could not spend more than two nights spider culling and being attacked by insects so decided to cut our three night stay down but as expected we’re not able to receive any refund. For the unused night. It’s a shame that a lovely old hotel pub in such a good position on the Thames is so badly kept. Basic hygiene and proper cleaning doesn’t cost much if it’s done correctly. May I suggest if they cannot run to portable air conditioning and only rely on opening windows, perhaps mosquito blinds should be installed on the windows to let only air in !

Beautiful setting right on the river. Lovely food. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean, but the floor sloped, which meant that things rolled off the bedside table if you weren't careful, but not a serious problem.

The room was well appointed and very comfortable. The location was great for walking the Thames Path and was accessible by bus from Abingdon or Witney. We ate at the hotel as well, and the quality was excellent.

Breakfast was freshly cooked and excellent, the evening meal also. The staff at the hotel made the trip, they were so nice, friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Beautiful setting was nice to have a drink by the river in the evening after a day of exploring.
