I'm going to be honest. We had one of the 2 dog friendly rooms with a view of a beer garden - we were not happy. Being disappointed initially we nearly moved to a different hotel. The view was the thing we most wanted. The entrance was pretty sad looking. An old and dirty table sits outside with an umbrella leaning nearby. A very uninviting entrance. Some plants would help it look better. Once in the room it is actually very pretty. However, with the curtains open anyone in the garden can see in - some voiles would help. The balcony is thin so you can just about sit at the table but it isn't a place you want to sit as its placed next to the beer garden and under the balcony of the room above which has slatted floor allowing you to view the people above sitting there. The biscuits and drinks table is nice as is a supply of canned water each day. The room was cleaned daily with the exception of the solid floor. It was gritty and dusty, a rug would have been nice when getting changed so clothes didn't drag on it. Its practical with dogs but not for bare footed humans. The mattress - awful, lumpy and with a middle hump. There's no fridge - needed for dog food, although allowed to use a fridge in the dining room. The dining room and terrace - lovely, a very pleasant place to have a meal. The staff are brilliant, helpful and tolerant as we were a bit dissatisfied. We'd go back but only in a front facing room. Shaldon is excellent, we love it. The staff make the hotel worth it.

We had a wonderful stay at The Ness. The location is beautiful with amazing views! All staff were welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was fantastic and highly enjoyed by my two young sons. The homemade granola was a lovely touch. We would recommend to friends and family, and look forward to returning again.
