Had an amazing stay. The setting is incredible and they make the most of it. Each and every member of staff was very warm, friendly, super helpful and professional- they made it a great experience. Very dog friendly too which actually had such a nice atmosphere to it- without feeling at all like a doggie daycare. Highly recommended!

Lovely stay at the South Sands. Room was comfortable with a huge walk in shower and separate roll top bath. Included breakfast was great and dinner was also very good. Perfect setting on the beach. Had a great free car park. Only fault was sound proofing of the room. Was quite noisy, especially when trying to go to sleep. Luckily we always pack ear plugs so didn’t affect us for long. I had read previous reviews about the roads leading to the hotel but nothing could have prepared me from the nail biting experience when you had to go anywhere!

A lovely setting looking over the bay with wonderful cliff walks. The staff were very warm and helpful. Breakfast was great and the evening meals were delicious too. Note that this is a very dog-friendly hotel so there were often dogs with owners in the restaurant, though staff do try to keep these tables separate from non-dog owner tables.

A warm welcome after our long journey, which relaxes you straight away. We were shown our room, and it met our needs. We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary over this time, and found the staff very approachable, with the Breakfast having a good choice overlooking the beach. Ample secure carparking facility next too the hotel. The facilities in the hotel/ room, met our needs. We would recommend to others, and hope to return in the not too distant future.

Lovely staff, couldn’t have been more helpful. Food very good. Just thought room needed a bit of tiding/painting, bathrooms needed re grouting etc. it didn’t affect our stay, but is top money and except it to be right. We stayed in a sea view room with doors to open but no window to let any air in. So it was the door open which not sure on security of that. And there was no air-conditioning. All in all a lovely place.

The South Sands is a lovely coastal hotel, with an excellent dining experience, literally on the beach but in a reasonably quiet location with safe parking. Dogs are also accommodated and there is even clean white towels to rub the dog down when they have finished playing in the sea/beach. The staff are very efficient, friendly and wish to please their guests. We really enjoyed our stay and are looking to retune to year.

We had a wonderful stay - our room was very comfortable with a fabulous sea view - drinks and food excellent the quality of fish at dinner amazing, excellent and friendly service and staff throughout- gorgeous location - loved it is SO dog friendly - didn’t want to leave - thank you

No hot water in the hotel which was beyond disappointing, given the fact that I craved the heat after a rainy 19km walk. Most unfortunately, the dining experience was excruciatingly uncomfortable, being forgotten about outside whilst my table in the warmth was given away. What’s the point of attractive decor if you cannot get the basics right?

Room we stayed in is crying out for some maintenance and cleaning - not what you would expect at £180.00 per night - shame really because hotel is quite "posh" but doesn't deliver on overall appearance. Food and drinks not cheap but better quality than room

Sea views, clean, comfortable and quiet. The seafood restaurant is excellent, every meal looks colourful and fresh.The staff are always ready to help, excellent service all round. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return many times.

The staff were so personable and helpful from reception, restaurant staff to the lovely cleaning lady😀 Breakfast was really good, with fresh coffee, unlike other hotels where it’s self service from a machine! Great dinners with freshly caught fish specials. Our room was excellent, clean and spacious. Thank you South Sands Hotel-we will be back !

This hotel is lovely, the parking is safe, the build and furnishings are of excellent quality. However, our room had a terrible small of drains/sewage. It also looked onto the bins. Our issue was not with the hotel or the room but with the duty manager and her unprofessional and quite honestly, insulting way she dealt with us and our complaint. We met other patrons who had been visiting SouthSands Hotel for many years and they too were massively disappointed by the attitude of staff, in particular but not exclusively, the duty Manager, who was down right rude and singularly unhelpful to them too, It's safe to say that we will not be revisiting this Hotel. Thankfully we managed to book a room at the Harbour Hotel which was a happy ending to our otherwise unhappy special break. Some serious customer service training is very much needed at this hotel.

Lovely stay at South Sands hotel. Beautiful room, staff pleasant and very helpful. Food was excellent and the breakfasts were huge. Clean, well presented and comfortable throughout.We took our dog and she was made very welcome! Everyone was friendly and obliging. We will most certainly be back next year.

Beautiful setting, being able to walk straight out on to the beach was amazing. Our room was huge (no11) with a sea view, bath in the middle of the room was novel but it also had a fantastic shower. Good breakfast and our meal in the restaurant one evening was faultless.

Booked a room with a full sea view which while booked seemed a bit expensive …when we were shown to our room it was worth every penny. Fantastic view right on the beach which feels like a private beach as essentially you can’t park at Southsands unless you are staying in one of the two hotels.

Fantastic Sunday lunch and overnight stay. Had a late lunch and a very relaxed afternoon looking at the beautiful view before moving to the fireside sofas for an evening of board games, cheese and wine. Fabulous staff, lovely room. Overall a wonderful short break.

The staff were amazing with a great welcome. Courtesy check after occupying the room was a clever touch. Dinner was excellent and breakfast came a little too soon - should have walked before breakfast to make room. Thank you for a great night.

Beautiful setting, being able to walk straight out on to the beach was amazing. Our room was huge (no11) with a sea view, bath in the middle of the room was novel but it also had a fantastic shower. Good breakfast and our meal in the restaurant one evening was faultless.

We loved it here - quite secluded and beware the Devon country lanes that access it, but it’s in a stunning location and we even stayed an extra night! The staff were brilliant and the food was faultless. Lots of doggos too :)

This is a lovely hotel, but is not really walkable into Salcombe for an evening out, which means you have very few options other than to stay in the hotel........not necessarily a bad thing as the food was great and the staff generally attentive! There is clearly a big issue with Taxis in this area as we tried to book a cab for Sat night and it took the hotel receptionist a whole day to find a cab, but was quoted £35 for a 2.2m round trip!!! not really an option for pint. Not sure how they measured the quoted 1.1m on the hotel website BTW as its definitely a country mile as the crow flies! I did note that the hotel next door appeared to have a mini bus, so perhaps thats a service that could be provided?

Great hotel and lovely stay. It is on an estuary along a narrow lane (single track in parts) and nearest town/shops a good 30 minute walk with some extremely steep parts to climb, so not for the less able in my opinion. However, a great spot to visit other pretty places if you dont mind relying on your car daily.

A fantastic location. Rooms very comfortable. The restaurant could up its game a bit - breakfasts were very mediocre. Poor quality fruit and bread. Given the fantastic local produce they really could do better.

The staff were so personable and helpful from reception, restaurant staff to the lovely cleaning lady😀 Breakfast was really good, with fresh coffee, unlike other hotels where it’s self service from a machine! Great dinners with freshly caught fish specials. Our room was excellent, clean and spacious. Thank you South Sands Hotel-we will be back !

We booked just one night away from the kids. Mid-January so weather wasn’t great but it’s lovely cozy hotel. Salcombe is easily walkable and the views are fantastic. The food in the restaurant was very good, both the evening meal and breakfast were excellent and the views looking out of the beach and across the estuary from the table really make it. Very enjoyable stay.

Lovely and very clean room. Great housekeeping. No help with bags from reception who were largely not too helpful. Great breakfast. Not much in terms of amenities. Strange to not offer guests any paddle boards kayaks etc given location on the water. They should consider investing in this.

Absolutely loved our stay tagged on after weeks holiday in Salcombe for our 30th wedding anniversary. Lovely hotel, friendly helpful staff beautiful relaxed rooms and wonderful views. Perfect stay .

South Sands Hotel is an amazing place to stay - idyllic surroundings and view to enjoy for a short break away this was what we needed, time to relax and forget the day to day home life - would recommend to all if you get the chance even for 1 night it’s worth it.
