As the name implies, great viewing of Northern Lights. Staff help to alert you when the opportunities arise. Nice lounge area to hang out with an “honesty” bar with drinks and snacks.

This is the best place! They were over and beyond helpful. This is the best place to stay, they have a spa on site, great continental breakfast , restaurant and lots of areas to seat and relax. 40 miles to Reykjavik, 5 min walk to the Blue Lagoon!

Friendly staff! Excellent food and location. Free tea and coffee. It has a very inviting, comfortable, cozy living room area with fireplace. Both dinner and breakfast were great.

We chose this hotel because it had a free shuttle to Blue Lagoon, had a cute spa area, and offered Gluten Free for breakfast. It was quite expensive, but thought it would be worth it for our one night. Well, it only offers the shuttle at the top of the hour, which was strange as it's a very short drive to the Blue Lagoon and it's a small hotel, so we were the only ones on the shuttle. Then, they stop shuttling people back at 9pm! The Lagoon closes at midnight in the summer, so we had to walk back (which was a 15 min walk-but again, we booked this place based on the shuttle). Also, you have to pay about 30$ extra per person to be able to use their spa! So, even though we spend over 550$ to sleep there, the small sauna wasn't accessible. And lastly, even though I confirmed upon check in that they had gluten free options, the breakfast attendant said they ran out of gluten free. So I had a hot tea and a piece of fruit for breakfast. Overall, it was a fine hotel, but very disappointing experience for us.

Quiet, comfortable, nice spa amenities.

Staff was very friendly and the accommodations very comfortable. Open areas to relax outside your room were well appointed. I would skip the ‘spa’ as it’s really just a series of saunas (nice but not worth paying the daily fee). Nothing in the area (other than the Blue Lagoon) if you don’t have a car, so plan on having to eat at the hotel restaurant for all your meals. Food was fine, but it gets redundant.

Our room was clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The common areas were lovely and very inviting. The buffet style breakfast was massive and quite delicious. The staff was helpful and arranged transportation for us. They also offered to wake us if the Northern Lights were spotted. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Even though it was too cloudy to see the northern lights, the hotel was wonderful! Cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. It is also super close to the Blue Lagoon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Northern Light Inn. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The hotel staffs were extremely helpful. The complementary breakfast and ride to Blue lagoon was very convenient.

We enjoyed the comfortable beds, the large, clean bathroom, and the delicious breakfast. For a night stay, it was mostly what we needed, however we felt a little disappointed with the lack of amenities for the price. If it’s the winter season, the cost probably feels justified because of the northern lights but we were there in August and it was still the most expensive place we stayed in Iceland but without any of the basic items in the room. To have a robe or to use the sauna, it is an extra cost per person. There was no mini fridge in the room, so dairy had to be stored with the front desk. There was no coffee machine in the room. Our booking said there was laundry but we found out when we arrived that it had to be booked 24 hours in advance and unfortunately we were only there for 12 hours total. All that said, the room was nice and clean, and the morning staff was wonderful, so overall we left happier than when we arrived. The owner, Frederick, was so kind. He shared a wealth of knowledge about the lava fields and how to best sightsee in the area on the morning we left. I would recommend this place, but with caution. Just be aware that although the room is large and clean, it is otherwise very simple and basic for the price.

This was my least favorite of the hotels we stayed at in Iceland. The proximity to The Blue Lagoon was the main perk, since we had an early reservation. The breakfast was also decent. However, the sulfur smell from the adjacent geothermal power plant was pervasive, the bed & especially pillows were not the most comfortable, and the room was not especially inviting. This was also the most expensive hotel we stayed at, so it being the least comfortable was disappointing.

The bed situation was the worst They had two single beds pulled together with the crack in between them and two tiny, small twin blankets It was not at all a comfortable sleeping situation for a couple

The location is super convenient for the blue lagoon but weirdly our room smelled like sulfur even though the blue lagoon didn’t smell at all. There is absolutely nothing around the hotel except lava. The food is decent. Room was spacious.

The room was clean, spacious, and well-kept, which made for a comfortable stay. However, road closures in the area made finding the hotel a bit of a hassle. The most notable downside was the power plant located right next to the property. It is loud and overwhelming.

Superior room was nice and spacious, albeit a bit blandly furnished/decorated. Location was perfect for us…a stones throw from the Blue Lagoon and centrally located on Reykjanes peninsula for exploring all the points of interest. Removing a star because the room temp was too warm (early September), as there is no ventilation/ circulation other than a small window to open. (The heaters were off). The restaurant food was excellent.

If it wasnt for the location i wouldnt bother staying here. It was just an average stay with a huge price tag. The rooms are not the nicest and the bed was very uncomfortable.

Large comfortable rooms. Cozy fireplace and puzzle table in public lounge area. Very helpful and friendly staff. We didn’t have time to take advantage of the beautiful spa amenities. We highly recommend a stay here if you are visiting the Blue Lagoon.

The Northern Lights Inn is very well located for visiting the Blue Lagoon (only a couple of mins drive away) but it is right next to the power station - this was fine for us visiting in autumn as we didn’t need to open the windows, but in summer it would be quite noisy with open windows. The room was comfortable but I thought overall it was overly expensive, even for Iceland.

The staff were super accommodating, really really nice and knowledgeable especially about the recent volcano eruptions. 10/10 would recommend

We had a unique situation. The road to the hotel was closed due to a recent volcanic eruption. They arranged for us to stay at another great hotel in Reykjavik. They also made sure we had a cot in the newly arranged room for our child. So although we didn’t get to experience the hotel property, we were very pleased with the services we got from them.

The staff acted swiftly, professionally, and with utmost concern for all the customers during the most recent evacuation. They made sure at 1:30 am that we were all accounted for, taken to a safe meeting place, and placed in a motel by 4:30 am. The staff should be commended for making us feel during this stressful volcanic eruption.

The staff was very good with communication and answering all of my questions. They helped me book airport shuttles to and from the property! They are very close to the Blue Lagoon so if you have an early reservation for that then I definitely reccomend this property. The staff was also SO nice, will definitely stay here again. They will also let you sign up to get a wake up call if the northern lights are out, in which I did and the front desk guy helped take pictures! All in all a great stay and I will definitely be coming back!

We made a last min booking here and could not have been happier we did! Highly recommend this very special place to visitors. Originally we had plans to head to the city. This was a much much better move after landing coming to relax and unwind in the lagoon region. The hotel staff was attentive and super helpful. Loved it.

There was a volcanic eruption near the property which disrupted our stay. The manager was excellent in assisting us, making other accommodations on our behalf and handling all of the logistics.

This was a clean, quiet remote place to stay in the middle of an old lava flow. It was within 1.1 miles of the Blue Lagoon, but otherwise, isolated. It was expensive with no pool, spa, etc. The staff were very nice and helpful.

The sulphur smell was quite disagreeable when we arrived and we almost left right away. We went over to the Blue Lagoon nearby, and realized the smell wasn't too bad. Once we got back to the Inn, the smell was nearly gone. We didn't even notice it the next 3 days.

Clean, friendly staff, very good restaurant, within walking distance of Blue Lagoon. A car is must if staying more than one night as, except for the Blue Lagoon, there is nothing near by.

The location and views were awful. The hotel is located adjacent to a geothermal power plant. I would not recommend this hotel. I think it is over priced for the location, room quality and general amenities.

We absolutely love this hotel not far from the airport 25 minutes drive if you’re planning to go to the blue Lagoon it’s a four minute drive just down the road. It was perfect. They also do wake up calls to see the northern lights, which is fantastic.

The geothermal plant was extremely loud- like sleeping next to a busy freeway. The property itself was very nice, and the landscape around it unique. The front desk staff was very kind and informative. I blame myself for not doing better research on the details. It was more expensive then I thought, and Spa access was an additional charge. For the price and general proximity, If I were to do this trip again I would not stay here the price : benefit ratio isn't what I was imagined.

Rating: 5/5 If your primary goal is to maximize your chances of seeing and photographing the Northern Lights, and you want easy access to the Blue Lagoon, then this location is absolutely perfect. This hotel truly provides an ideal retreat in the rugged Icelandic wilderness. The Stay: The hotel rooms were beautifully decorated and felt incredibly cozy and well-appointed—a perfect sanctuary after a long day of exploring. I must especially commend the staff; they were genuinely welcoming, helpful, and very accommodating with every request, enhancing the overall experience significantly. Location, Location, Location: The hotel's location is unparalleled for the Blue Lagoon; it’s just a stone's throw away, making travel incredibly convenient. More importantly, its position away from the capital means there is minimal light pollution, offering truly incredible picture-taking opportunities of the Aurora Borealis. If your itinerary focuses on the lights and the geothermal spa, you won't find a better base. Essential Travel Tip (Read This!): Be warned: a taxi ride into Reykjavik is extremely expensive (easily $140-$170 USD one-way). If you plan on making multiple trips to the capital, you must factor this into your transportation costs or, better yet, rent a car for your stay.

While underwhelming upon first arrival, this hotel more than redeemed itself with friendly staff, convenience, comfort, and breakfast/lunch. The restaurant dinner was fabulous! The breakfast buffet was also good and they offered an early smaller option starting at 4am. The hotel even offered a northern lights “wake up call”, which added to the excitement of our time there. The convenience to the airport and Blue Lagoon wears helpful.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Northern Lights Inn!! The dining at Max’s is phenomenal- world class!! We enjoyed a lovely dinner after visiting the Blue Lagoon and amazing breakfast buffet the following morning! We loved the lounge areas with cozy couches, fireplace and plenty of games to choose from! The guest rooms are lovely and enjoyed shower products! The only negative experience was taxi transportation to & from the airport. It is rather expensive for the short distance and not necessary to reserve ahead through the hotel. We had an hour from the time we departed the airport until our reservation at the Blue Lagoon. We did not see a taxi driver holding a sign with our name at the airport exit so we elected to take another cab - there were 8 out there waiting! When we checked in at the hotel, we were made to feel bad that we did not wait for the driver. We offered to use this driver the next day when returning to the airport but was told that was not possible. So we contacted the driver who brought us to the Inn. The next day, the original driver came into the guest lounge stating he was called to take us back to the airport. We were confused & explained to him that we had inquired about this but told this was not an option. It was very uncomfortable when the driver we did in fact request showed up to take us to the airport. Again we were made to feel we had done something wrong! There was never a message that the Inn had arranged a ride to the airport for us.

Great hotel near the famous blue lagoon spa. Staff were wonderful and food in Max's restaurant was delicious.

The staff is excellent! They are accommodating and friendly. I had dinner at Max’s, and it was absolutely delicious! The location is great for the blue lagoon and the volcano hike. Shuttles to the blue lagoon are really easy. I really enjoyed my stay!

Amazing place! Dinner was incredible

The property is well maintained and the spa area is very nice and clean. The front desk staff is friendly and accommodating. And they made sure to alert us to the Northern Lights! My only negative experience was with the restaurant on site. The food was just ok--the soup came out cold--twice, the fish and chips were bland and tasteless and the staff was distracted and not attentive. Hopefully it was just an off night.

Friendly, helpful staff- picked us up from Blue Lagoon when I had mid-read the shuttle bus times. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious (pan fried cod and chicken schnitzel) with big portions. Buffett breakfast very good choice too.
