Fantastic staff, as good if not better than any 5* hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The lobby bar and the 1808 bar are super. The food and portions great and reasonably priced. Location great! Great job to the tram that makes it all work.

Cannot fault the accommodation, facilities e.g. Beer Garden & Cocktail Bar, Private parking and friendly staff, if heading back to that area for any more "functions" etc will definitely stay there again.

Decor throughout was attractive & in keeping with age of hotel. Room was spacious & comfortable. Staff were attentive & polite. Breakfast was very good & dinner was excellent. Parking spaces not really adequate for occupancy of hotel.

A nice building but with limited facilities and smallish rooms. Very busy with parties and limited public areas crowded.

A lovely hotel, close to everything, with on site restaurants and bars. Welcoming staff and good, honest rooms. Not too far from Glasgow, but far enough away to be a little quieter. We used it as a base to attend the Highland Gathering at Dunoon… a quick ferry ride and Dunoon and it’s environs await.

I’ve stayed here frequently in the past but it’s gone down hill since our last visit. The air conditioning didn’t work so the room was uncomfortably warm but there wasn’t even a glass to use to have a drink of water. Furnishings in the room were broken or worn and there was mould in the shower. Initially we couldn’t get through the door as a group of wedding guests were smoking in front of it and one of them was asleep on in the stairs inside. Staff were trying really hard but this was not a great experience.

Hotel rooms are a bit dated. We had no heating in room . But was giving 2 electric heaters very quickly. Shower head was burst water going everywhere. Cracked tiles in bathroom.

Nice clean room, and a modern recently refurbished bathroom. Reception staff were friendly and no issues with parking in the car park at the rear of hotel. Restaurant and bar available in the hotel but we didn’t use these as we were only staying for one night as attending a function. Would stay again.

Check in quick and easy. Rooms good for what we needed. Only fault was the shower area was mouldy. A drop of bleach on the motley areas would have rectified that. Could not hear the extractor fan - not sure if it was adequate. Restaurant was fabulous, the food was lovely.

Smooth check in no issues. Room has last persons Kirby's down side of bed. Mould round shower tray and tiles and shower didn't drain as quick water was coming out. Urine crystallised in toilet lid. Bar closed at 12 whilst guest left from function and was going to reopen for staying guest, we stood at bar awaiting the reopen girl asked what she could get me I asked for 2 packs of crisps as no room service and her reply was the bar is shut? I said why did you ask what I would like? So fywe speaking to manager he has no issues with the selling of crisps. We have stayed here before but unfortunately I think that will be our last and that's a shame.

Stayed in the Lyle suite was amazing ordered room service food was delicious and very quick staff were amazing also

Divine room overlooking the town and river area. The room was apacious and a uxurious bed completed my stay. Would definitely recommend the hotel and will stay there again

Lovely room and breakfast. Some noise in corridor at night as other guest returned home at 2am, gaps round room door allowed this.

Charming old hotel with modern amenities. We were upgraded to the Victorian Suite which was a large room with vanity area and sitting area. The front desk was very accommodating and they answered all my texts prior to arrival.

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights. Check-in was smooth and we were given a room downstairs (29). When we got back on the first evening at approximately midnight it became clear very quickly that the walls were extremely thin with little to no sound-proofing as we could hear the people and tv of the room next door very clearly. They weren’t talking excessively loud, just the walls were way too thin. We reported this to the night porter but were told there were ‘no more rooms’. A few minutes later he knocked on our door and told my partner and I that he had spoken to his manager and we could move to a Premier Room which should be less noisy. We appreciated this gesture and the room was indeed quieter although now with slight noise from the main road. Overall, the room was nice but the bed wasn’t comfortable. It had a large strange lump in the middle of a very soft mattress and sagged on each side. Not our best night sleep each evening. Also, very bright come 6am as the blind lets in a lot of light even when fully extended. We had breakfast each morning, each time I went for a plate there were little dark marks on them. Apart from this small point the food itself was absolutely delicious with a nice wee selection of cooked breakfast items as well as continental offerings. Everyone that we dealt with at the hotel was friendly, but given the price we paid and the issues my partner and I encountered, it wasn’t worth what we paid and wouldn’t choose to stay again.

The room was way to hot with no air conditioning or fan provided. For the price i would expect better.

Was there for a week. Hotel is fine. At one time was probably a very nice hotel but the rooms seem a bit dated and need some refurbishing. A definite lack of electrical outlets in room. The daily cookies were a nice touch

Wifi very sketchy or non existent otherwise excellent

The Hotel decor is tired and a little dated. Our room had a connecting door (great for families but not for us) Even though we were in the "newest" part of the hotel it was pretty obvious that the floor boards went through both rooms as as we were disturbed by the people in the next room as they moved around and visited the toilet during the night ... it sounded like they were walking around in our room.

WiFi is very bad in the rooms. Many times interrupted.

Great hotel and location, breakfast was good. We had a problem with a leaky window and were immediately upgraded to the beautiful honeymoon suite. The staff were all exceptional!!! So friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately had to cut our stay a day late due to unforeseen circumstances but were refunded for the extra night that we couldn’t stay. A wedding was on and it was awesome to see the bagpiper and the wedding guests all having a great time.

The staff at the hotel were all lovely people which made our stay something special. Our only negative comment is the TV in the room is way too small and the remote was very worn. The breakfast and dinner quality & options were excellent, prices were all good and service at all levels was top rate. Thank you to all the staff! We would highly recommend this hotel

I was up to attend a sportsman dinner, so was only on my own but as usual staff very helpful and friendly.

The staff are excellent, professional and helpful, with specific reference to Bethany.

.four of us stayed on saturday 3rd june.check in was fine. when we arried back to the hotel about 1030 we decided to have a night cap. initially we couldnt find any staff, then the staff that turned up were both rude and obnoxious.the next morning we went to breakfast at 0915 and the only way to decribe it as disgusting. no yoghurts,no coffe told it could take about 10 - 15 mins. the so called hot buffet needed refreshed as what was there was dried up and cold. i feel this was unacceptable. my wife went to reception to complain and was told "The chef wont fill it up now" so i would like a refund for the 4 breakfast please

Have stayed here once before and it's still good. Staff were welcoming and friendly even with a number of other events occurring at the hotel during our two night stay

Love this building, outside garden area if weather permitting, interior very tidy, rooms clean and comfortable, staff great nothing too much bother for them. We had booked for 2 nights but travelled a day earlier and asked if possible could we book in for extra night but to save any hassle could we have the room allocated to us to save moving , this was sorted with ease . Hotel recommended .

Really enjoyed our stay at Tontine. Very well located for getting around Greenock and travelling to Glasgow and other surrounding towns. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and rooms were clean and comfortable. There were quite a few parties over the weekend in the event room but we didn’t hear anything when we went back to our rooms. Nice and quiet. Would recommend.

A well established hotel with some historical features. The reception and stairwell areas are eye catching. Spacious bedroom with all basic facilities. Really comfortable bed. Bathroom a little dated. Friendly staff. Plenty of street parking. 15 minute walk to town centre and river.

Arrived late due to flight delays, but greeted by friendly staff and had a glass of wine in their bar before heading to bed. Only had one meal here, but it was very good (fish and chips). Close walking distance to ocean terminal (heading out on Hurtigruten cruise), beautiful esplanade, historic sights, and dining.

If you like history and local charm, this is your place. This historic hotel is clean, well staffed and the whole town feels very safe. I stayed at The Tontine Hotel for almost 2 weeks, sightseeing via public transportation from the hotel as a hub, and had a wonderful relaxing time. I would definitely come back to this same hotel. Gorgeous Firth of Clyde area, lots of ferries nearby to see nearby islands, and affordable prices. Glasgow is 45 minutes train ride away-- see the sights there, but return to quiet Greenock and sleep peacefully at the Tontine.

A beautiful old traditional hotel, with a lovely atmosphere. Situated in a nice part of town, close to the amazing Lyle hill, seaside towns and the views of Argyll

We payed for breakfast and were met with coffee and white or brown bread . It was the poorest display of a Continental Breakfast i have ever seen It was very disappointing when wevwere looking forward to a nice Scottish breakfast.

A bit tired looking and firm beds. Awful breakfast, all over cooked buffet with joke eggs (knife bounced off when tried to cut). Convenient location and about the best hotel in town sadly.

2nd visit. Last time breakfast was very good this time poor. Staff excellent especially Cynthia-amazing staff member!

Classic old property, facilities are just ok, but our room was disappointing, hate complaining, so we just got on with it, sadly after using the hotel many times over years we will be looking elsewhere on our next visit. Staff in the restaurant were good but the food was cold and not served to our party at the same time, it wasn’t that busy either.

The staff was so very kind from the moment we checked in til the very end. They were helpful in giving suggestions, directions and just overall kindness. The restaurant was delicious as well (the sticky toffee pudding is a must try!) The bar downstairs is great as well. I would suggest getting the breakfast included in your stay as it is convenient since there aren’t many cafes/restaurants open that early around. The hotel has a lot of a historic charm about it yet still well maintained and clean. We always came back after a day out to a clean suite.
