Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course

Very large room in a quiet part of the hotel and close to the swimming pool. Swimming was a pleasure as the water was warm and the pool large enough to swim actual lengths. Pleasant staff. Extensive breakfast buffet. Location looks remote at first glance but a good base for exploring Galloway or travelling on into Ayrshire.

Stayed in a deluxe family room which was excellent. Very spacious with 2 large seperate bedrooms, hall and very large modern and beautifully finished bathroom. Smart technology mirrors in both bedrooms and good sized tvs. Beautiful views from the large windows and good storage in cupboards. Bathrobes and towels for the pool in the cupboards. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and glad we paid a bit extra for the deluxe room. We’ll definitely be back. Lovely traditional expansive entrance with lots of character. Great full sized snooker table room. Dining areas and conservatory all very nice and traditional. Swimming pool was a really good size, with good sized changing rooms. Lovely large windows overlooking the golf course. Jacuzzi was good but not the most modern. Sauna was out of order. Beautiful surroundings and lovely vast historical building. A nice walk through the woodland and past the golf course into Gatehouse. Overall really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

Staff were very helpful and the setting and grounds are beautiful. However the hotel itself is run down. Sauna and lift not working. The shower temperature would not stay constant. Carpet in our room was threadbear. The toilet in the public area was filthy had no toilet paper and was like this for 2days. Clearly it had not been checked. The bar did not do food after 8 pm and had closed early. The restaurant food was overcooked and our made to order breakfast lacked some key components. The beds were comfortable and staff responded when we raised issues We would not stay here again unless it has major renovation

Not great to be honest. Room Wasn’t ready for 15:00 check-in. Told it would be 30-40 mins and they would come and tell us. 90 mins later and 3 trips back to reception we got in the room, not good after a 350 mile journey. No instructions on entry to leisure centre, no instructions for breakfast times etc. A/c in “gym” broken along with 2/3rds of the equipment.

Lovely stay with the family children loved the pool excellent that there are no time limits as to how long they can enter also loved playing on the golf small putting green thanks to Jane , Nat and Barry for making our stay so enjoyable would definitely return

Really disappointed by this hotel, while the grounds and scenery surrounding the hotel are really lovely, the inside of the hotel particularly, the forest wing where we were staying was extremely dated. There was rust and mould in the bathroom and the balcony really needed some TLC. While the bed and pillows were really comfortable the sound proofing was non existent , we could hear absolutely everything from the room above us, which spoiled our stay and woke us up. Unfortunately I would never stay here again

Reception and staff were lovely and very helpful. First night we chose bar meal which was an expensive mistake, poor quality both fish and burger, avoid if you can. We dined in main dining Saturday where food was amazing. Swimming pool was spotless and well maintained. Our room was beautiful and very big with separate bathroom, again spotlessly clean.

As always, room was clean & comfortable, we enjoyed a swim in a very clean pool, both dinner and breakfast were delicious with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly, polite and attentive, they are always so helpful.

Stayed here a few times but the bedrooms are really starting to look rather tired. Shame that they were also a bit dirty. Staff service was excellent however.

The exterior is beautiful and very grand. The interior just as nice in entrance however the bedrooms a getting dated. It was lovely to use the pool. The hot tub was out of order wen we arrived. This is not so much an issue but having a good night sleep is and we didn’t. It was awful. We could hear everything and this was also with earplugs in. Banging of doors, scraping of furniture, kettles boiling, people talking on the corridor, flushing of the toilet and the cistern filling up (from other rooms). The pipe work made everything echo. To finish it all off we were woken (after getting 3 hour sleep) by a wine deliver at 7.30 in the morning! When I told reception on the way out they just said sorry, that was it! Will never stay here again.

1 night stay as part of a longer holiday. Stayed previously at the Cally Palace and had a great stay. The room was well appointed in a quiet area of the hotel and was very comfortable with views towards the woods at the rear of the hotel. We had an evening meal which was very enjoyable, our table being close to an open log fire. The hotel is located 5 minutes from the A75 but is far enough away that there is no noise from passing traffic. The breakfast was good, there being plenty of choice and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will return for future visits.

Nice, old fashioned hotel, with beautiful dining and tea rooms, lying in the middle of splendid trees and green fields (mostly part of the golf course). Bedroom is lacking a bit on the soundproof, but for the rest nothing to complain about. Excellent breakfast and diner.

The deluxe room No 74 was disappointing as the size was very large but no thought has been given to layout of the available room. It would appear that the standard double would have exactly the same furniture and be much cosier so you have ended up spreading furniture around the room rather than see the space as an opportunity and create an attractive seating area. TV screen was very small and some distance from the couch so comes back to point above. There was no place within the shower to put soaps /shower bottles etc The room was nice and warm and bed comfy and ensuite worked well

Staff excellent nothing too much trouble

The hotel staff were exceptionally polite and helpful. My husband has a dietary condition and the chef and staff went above and beyond to make him food that he could enjoy even though it wasn’t on the menu. The hotel staff went out of their way to be pleasant and make this an extremely enjoyable stay. Barry in the restaurant went above and beyond. He is an exceptional member of staff.

The customer is always wrong. Lobby staff were very unhelpful and happy to 'debate' issues loudly.

Our stay was simply superb. Staff were very helpful in rectifying a booking issue which ad all down to me, reception and bar an restaurant staff. The rooms were equally exceptionally. It is impossible to fault the hotel on anything at all. Our best stay at any hotel for many a year.

We required a room hange due to mobility problems, this was carried out quickly and efficiently by reception staff.

Staff were excellent and very helpful. Food was excellent. Sauna was out of action, but they did tell us by email before arrival.

Very nice hotel. Excellent location, if you are travelling from or to the Ferry at Cairnryan and need a (very) nice place, and very (very) quiet place to stay. Very serene. We only have two (minor) critiques from our most recent stay. The mattress in Room 74. It had a very hard/solid "perimeter" / "edging", and then sunk inward. So I think there's a new mattress needed. Also, for the scale of the room (it was very big, and very recently refurbished), the bed should be a Queen or King size. Last (minor) critique, the area around the sink just needed a little more cleaning and/or attention to detail. Again - minor critique. Great parking. Great view overlooking the front of the property. Very helpful front-desk staff, check-in staff, night porters, etc.

Been here before.love the hotel and facilities.Rooms could do with updating in terms of sockets/usb and furnishings but all clean and warm.What is very disappointing is that there is no signage from the road anymore and neither the entrance,the long(@1mile driveway and the car park are not lit.I don't know why signage has gone and only the forrestry commission sign for Cally forrest is at the entrance.We knew where we were going and still missed the turnoff!In this part of Scotland it is dark @3.30pm(you are in dark sky country so no light pollution or street lights) and as checkin isn't until 3 I would assume we were not the only ones that could'nt find the entrance!Once on the drive,There is still no signage(apart from the forrestry commission) or even reflctor lights,fluorescent painted stones to help indicate the narrow drive or even a sign to reassure you you are on the right road.When you arrive the car park and hotel are in darkness except for a spotlight above the door.Again not until you are at the entrance is a small plaque on the door and a door mat with the hotel name.The place looks closed up apart from there are cars in the carpark.It never used to look like that.A lit sign and lights in the carpark would all make the place look more welcoming.In daytime it is lovely.It is almost like they don't want people to find them which is a shame.

We had a lovely stay at Cally Palace. Very close to Gatehouse of Fleet and near lots of great walks. The reception room and grounds were lovely - the bedroom and swimming pool area were a bit tired. The food in the restaurant was fantastic and staff were great. We got a great deal so good value for money.

Picturesque Setting. A convenient location for travelers coming or going to the Stena port. Very polite and professional staff. Parking was convenient and right outside the main entrance. There is a large pool, which we didn't have time to use, as well as a very small gym room. A few minor things to note. Our balcony room did not have air conditioning, so it was quite warm. Also, there is not much sound-proofing. So guests in adjacent rooms with loud coughing and loud snoring was a problem for us. Maybe we were just unlucky in this regard. Bathroom ceiling fans from other rooms are also quite loud. Would stay there again, but would ask for a quieter room, and one with Aircon.

Absolutely fantastic. Great service from friendly staff and a very comfortable couple of night's experience. The food served from a comprehensive choice of dishes was top-drawer and the bar had a good range of drinks and spirits. Only slight issue would be the fact that the hotel is not easy to find - even with a google map and route planner - as there are no signs for it, even from Gatehouse of Fleet, and is extremely well hidden down Cally Avenue which is a wooded avenue heading into the substantial forest estate. We didn't even see a sign for the golf course.

Disappointed with buffet breakfast as one morning it took over 10 minutes for the bacon platter to be replenished and another day only 3 small croissants left - both these occasions happened before 9 am.

Lovely setting, full of old-fashioned charm. Dinner was really disappointing - multiple dishes from the menu were not available, and our 3rd choice of sirloin steak was mediocre. Cheese platter was good with a generous helping. Bed was far too soft, no support at all, a really uncomfortable night. Breakfast was ok but nothing special.

The hotel is set in a nice location and is only a short walk into the village. The pool area is nice. Rooms are comfortable but sound insulation is next to non existent. The guy in the room near us snored all night. Had he been in bed with us it could not have been much louder. The towels were thread bare. Breakfast has the usual fruit, yoghurt, corn flakes etc and is fine. The hot food is kept in metal containers heated by gas burners. They do not work well and the food is lukewarm. The bacon was limp and the sausages undercooked. Some items are cooked to order. My wife's porridge had uncooked oats floating on top. It had the consistency of a runny soup. It was inedible. I was asked how I wanted my boiled eggs cooked. I said I was not fussy so long as the white were firm and not runny. They were raw and inedible. I told the waiter and she said there was a function on later in the day and the chef was stressed. That's ok then! For a chef, in Scotland of all places, to come up with a rubbish porridge and be unable to boil eggs properly takes some doing. We won't stay there again.

Fantastic stay at a wonderful location sadly let down to a degree by breakfast. Despite being down over half an hour before breakfast ended the selection of food had not and was not replenished no bread, no sausages however eventually a few eggs appeared. Staff appeared very reluctant to ensure a good breakfast choice was available.

As always, room was clean & comfortable, we enjoyed a swim in a very clean pool, both dinner and breakfast were delicious with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly, polite and attentive, they are always so helpful.
