In general, as many have said, the property is lovely, well maintained outside, excellent location 5stars. We booked a king size ocean view studio, which was on a corner with a very cramped split room. The king bed was down a couple of steps into a dark alcove which had 6 inch wide sharp wood shelf further out, around the three sides of the outside of the mattress, so the distance to the wall on all three sides was less than 10 inches. No decent lighting, so any nighttime journeys to the bathroom were dangerous to any shins. The little fridge was also placed in that alcove! In the main part, there were two desks end to end to serve as coffee machine, etc…no lamps. And a tiny hard sofa, no tables for a coffee cup…kind of like a unit where furniture was stored…. Certainly not up to par for such an establishment. Was very sad as a quick view into the rooms on either side, were spacious and airy. The original dining room was closed and the bar only served basic pub food. The breakfast menu looked pricy for what was listed. A great dining experience was 5 minutes away at The Dolphin resort. The grounds were lovely and the pool looked great. Two echargers were much appreciated. Wished for a better experience as the room had a great view, but nowhere to sit, lay to even enjoy it. This room should not be listed.

We were very impressed with the Lodge. The staff were friendly, the ambience made for a relaxing time and the food that we had in the dining area was extremely good. We did have a few "hiccups" with our room but they were looked after within a short time after getting into it. We were at Painters Lodge for five nights and would certainly go back.

Stayed 2 nights

This was our second stay at this hotel. Our first experience was so good, returning was a no brainer. The front desk lady was very lovely for check-in. Our room was updated, but clearly it was a room that previously had pets without adequate cleaning afterward. We had quite a bit of pet hair on our clothing after a couple of hours in the room. Thank goodness none of us have pet allergies! We needed help a few times for simple things (only two towels in the room despite booking for four of us, request for more tea, etc) and the staff were very helpful. One of the times we went to the desk for help, we couldn’t understand the attendant at all despite her friendliness. Might be good to have staff with stronger English language skills on the desk. We did eventually get the help we needed, and she was super sweet. We just had trouble understanding each other. The property needs a thorough clean. There was trash blown all over the green space of the property. We understand that renovations are currently underway, but the trash was mainly from housekeeping and chunks of styrofoam. Not great near the ocean. The pub was great, and the young waitress we had was incredibly friendly and good at her job. We enjoyed board games in the lounge both evenings. We enjoyed the live music that filtered our way from the pub the second night. We will go back again for sure, but not at high season, as the price point would be too high considering the experience we had this time around.
