Good points; it's a central location, easy to get to from the station and a nice pub. However it felt as if the pub itself needed a bit of love. Staff were a seemingly not bothered about details like clean glasses ( had to ask 3 times for a new glass before a clean one was produced), shabby furniture (stained seat pads which had clearly been there some time), even making sure three identical cocktails were served in the same type of glass (one pina colada glass and 2 small high ball). Bedrooms were ok albeit beds were a bit hit and miss with bed springs making for a lumpy night's sleep, but the shower was good and hot and clean white towels. Sachets of milk in the tea set were replaced the next morning but dirty cups not replaced which was a bit odd. Two of the party were dairy free and breakfast was unsuitable as it was cheese, yogurt and meat although a basic fruit salad, fruit juice from plastic jugs that had seen better days and dry toast was available. Staff looked bewildered when asked if they had any vegan options or oat milk and did provide some tiny sachets like you get on a train. They promised to get a proper carton in for the next day by this didn't happen. It could be such a lovely pub but just seems to be lacking in a bit of TLC by staff like no one really cares. Such a shame.

Stayed 1 night

I booked two rooms for a weekday night over the Goodwood Horse Racing Festival. On arrival we were greeted by very welcoming staff members who checked us in and advised us of the closing times for evening meal and the breakfast in the morning. We were then taken to our rooms at the rear of the property, separate to the pub. We had booked one twin and one double room. As we checked in for the evening and headed back out in time to eat we had not paid much attention to the rooms. The meal itself was nice, well cooked pub food, we had the George burger and fries, along with chicken burger and fries. We spent then had an hour or so with couple of drinks in the bar before close. Once in the rooms we could see the issues with the cleanliness, or lack of. The rooms were not cleaned to a basic standard, there were wrappers from previous guests on the floor and on the window sills, along with dead flies. The curtains had a thick layer of dust along the top of them, as did the bed heads, surfaces and a fan provided. The bathroom also wasn't clean, the toilet brush holder having an amount of dirty water within it and mould in the shower. The rooms need a total makeover, they are tired looking, but the worst part is the cleanliness. Due to the time of the evening and the local event there was no option but to stay the night, but I certainly would have had I seen these issues earlier. A room cost £85.50 / night and wasn't worth half that cost. We didn't eat breakfast as a result.

We did not stay in the room we were given , it was dark , not very clean and stank of damp . There was paint coming off the walls were there was damp . The room was dark as the only window was high up and it was straight into the pub courtyard where all the smokers were sitting and drinking . There was no wardrobe just a hanging rail for clothes and and small poorly maintained shower room . We went to the bar to give our keys back and said we could not stay in the room . The person said oh ok and we were not offered an alternative room . The room was so different from the room they show in the photo for their property .

The room was very basic but I expected that. Cleaning standard was average at best, definitely room for improvement there. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room overlooked beer garden and was quite noisy but quiet from 11ish (Friday night). Room was pretty hot and no fan in there to help. Shower was pretty good, high pressure and plenty of hot water. Towels good quality and decent size Sink in room 8 leaks when emptied and there is a loose floor tile. Beds were ok, curtains in the room very thin and didn't block out any light. Breakfast was ok....nothing special, selection was limited. The whole place needs a bit of general refurbishment and decorating.
