Gorgeous hotel, rooms were well appointed... No TV was an added bonus! Lounge area was lovely to sit in the evening, playing one of the many boardgames. Restaurant was a little cramped (but this might have been due to the beautiful Christmas tree that was on display) but the food was incredible! We will definitely be back!

This hotel has a very special atmosphere which somehow makes you instantly relax. The hotel team are extremely helpful and the food is some of the best we have ever tasted. The bedrooms are small but that is the only slight downside. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the mattresses are very comfortable. Breakfast is 10/10. Parking is easy. The location is perfect. We can't wait to return.

Amazing stay at a beautiful property. Just off the Coast to Coast walk, this hotel was a perfect place to recover from a long walk. And the all-day tea/coffee and scones was a lifesaver. The rooms were nice and the food was delicious. Could not recommend more. They even had a place to fill up water bottles/bladders next to a gear drying room, which was a nice touch.

We had a fantastic few days staying at the Royal Oak. Our room was perfect - very clean with extremely comfortable beds, an amazing shower and a lovely view straight onto the river. Lots of walking straight from the door, handy drying room for wet kit and lovely cosy bar and lounge for an after walk drink and board game. Dinner was absolutely delicious with a choice of three options each night. Highly recommended - we will definitely return!

Loved all the produce was local and excellent quality including toiletries. The food was delicious and staff very friendly and attentive. Hotel has been beautifully renovated recently and was spotless. Excellent location for so many fantastic walks, including Scafell Pike.

The Royal Oak is in a stunning location and there has clearly been a lot of investment in upgrading the facilities and decor. This has resulted in very stylish, thoughtfully designed, high quality accommodation. The room & bathroom were gorgeous with good storage, a very comfortable bed and good quality fabrics, linen & towels. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We very much enjoyed the evening meal and breakfast, both cooked well and with good quality ingredients. The indoor spaces are well laid out, the courtyard was cool and peaceful and the garden was sunny and well tended. The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly the chap who checked us in and worked in the evening (he has dark hair and a beard but we’re sorry we didn’t ask his name). We would definitely recommend a stay here and are already planning to return.

We appreciated the room we rented and loved our friendly wait staff. The shower in one of the small, communal bathrooms must have been clogged because it barely drained, causing almost immediate filling up of the base and water spilling over onto the floor where I set my change of clothes. Thanks

Woaw woaw woaw - from the staff to the food, this place is the perfect get away. The rooms are beautiful, we stayed in a Superior double and were right by the beautiful babbling brook (we kept the window open to listen to the stream). We arrived in the late afternoon on Sunday and decided to both have the 3 course for £35. We were blown away by the quality and the flavours that we decided to eat the following night at the hotel. (Despite planning to have dinner at Keswick) We especially love that the menu changes daily, a limited menu because the food is bought fresh on the day, the chef calls the local market and asks what’s available. We thought this was fantastic! We have never had such a wonderful experience with dinner. There is a stunning 5mile walk that sets off from the hotel (Castle Rigg) and we decided to use follow the hotel recommendations. Beautiful walk not disappointed. ONLY LET DOWN - the house keeping, the tea/coffees/biscuits were not topped up throughout our stay and no teaspoons. The dirty mugs were not taken away and no clean ones provided. So we had to wash everything in the sink.

Loved it here, very relaxing stay, lovely scones available on arrival and each afternoon, bed was comfy, shower was good. View from window onto River was beautiful. Liked that there was no TV in the room, more opportunity to relax. Also had an EV charger, was unable to get to it first night as someone else was parked in the space, but had access the following night so had enough charge to get home. Ate there 1 evening out of 2. Limited menu (still a good choice) very well cooked and presented. Would definitely recommend

This was our first time at The Royal Oak Hotel. Staff were very friendly, and couldn’t have been more helpful. Our room was modern with a rustic yet country feel, comfortable, spacious, and clean. Food was delicious. We had breakfast each morning and dined in the restaurant on the night. Staff were helpful and attentive. The hotel is dog friendly, which was perfect as we have two Labs, which meant the could come with us.

Great base for walking in the area, however 15-20 minute drive from Keswick. Can’t speak for all rooms but ours was small, with no TV. Bathroom could do with some shelves, however very good shower. Breakfast choice, quality and service was very good. £30 additional cost for a dog irrespective of length of stay is extreme

Advertised as Keswick, but it was a 15-20 minute drive away. "Mountain view" room, but could just about see the tip of a hill through the buildings. Breakfast room was small and chaotic. Quite grumpy and abrupt reception staff.... stated she left a voicemail message about dinner booking which was a lie as I dont have voicemail set up on phone. This was our first time at The Royal Oak Hotel. Staff were very friendly, and couldn’t have been more helpful. Our room was modern with a rustic yet country feel, comfortable, spacious, and clean. Food was delicious. We had breakfast each morning and dined in the restaurant on the night. Staff were helpful and attentive. The hotel is dog friendly, which was perfect as we have two Labs, which meant the could come with us.

Place was lovely, very clean and the breakfast was superb. But both me and my partner are in wheelchairs part time, I could not get hold of the hotel to say we would be using our chairs that weekend and would need downstairs accommodation. On arrival, before official check in time, I said do you have any downstairs rooms as we have our wheelchairs. I was told no, you are on the first floor, “It’s just one flight, it’s a weekend so we are fully booked”. No apology, we spent the weekend having to carefully go upstairs with one hand rail on the stairs. This has deteriorated my partners condition. Unfortunately it’s unlikely we will stay there again due to this.

This is a great little find in a perfect, beautiful location. The staff are so friendly and helpful - we really wished we were staying longer and plan to come back shortly. The food (we had an evening meal and breakfast) was outstanding and such good value. We can't wait to return.

The service was lovely on the Friday eve we had a meal which was £70 which went on a tab but sadly after I’d walked Scarfell pike the hotel had a power cut so we couldn’t get showered eat warm food etc so I went home early. The hotel gave us £75 refund which wasn’t great as that was the cost of meal really so we got £5 off the second nights stay which isn’t great!

The perfect hotel for a stay in the Lake District! Location is peaceful with fantastic surrounding scenery, and is a very short drive away from Keswick, Scafell Pike and Great Gable to name a few, with Ambleside and Windermere reachable within 45 mins to an hour. The hotel itself was both modern and rustic with what seemed a recent renovation. Food was excellent and the rooms were large and immaculate! Couldnt fault the hotel and would definitely recommend to others!

Great base for walking in the area, however 15-20 minute drive from Keswick. Can’t speak for all rooms but ours was small, with no TV. Bathroom could do with some shelves, however very good shower. This hotel has a very special atmosphere which somehow makes you instantly relax. The hotel team are extremely helpful and the food is some of the best we have ever tasted. The bedrooms are small but that is the only slight downside. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the mattresses are very comfortable. Breakfast is 10/10. Parking is easy. The location is perfect. We can't wait to return.

We arrived back from our hike a few minutes after last food order - we were disappointed that we couldn't even have a sandwich - but had a lovely meal in the welcoming pub next door!! Apart from that our stay was really great.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Oak while hiking the C2C. The staff was welcoming. Our room was clean and well appointed. The food and drink were delicious! The large drying room was a welcome perk after a day of hiking in the rain. We would definitely stay here again!

Woaw woaw woaw - from the staff to the food, this place is the perfect get away. The rooms are beautiful, we stayed in a Superior double and were right by the beautiful babbling brook (we kept the window open to listen to the stream). We arrived in the late afternoon on Sunday and decided to both have the 3 course for £35. We were blown away by the quality and the flavours that we decided to eat the following night at the hotel. (Despite planning to have dinner at Keswick) We especially love that the menu changes daily, a limited menu because the food is bought fresh on the day, the chef calls the local market and asks what’s available. We thought this was fantastic! We have never had such a wonderful experience with dinner. There is a stunning 5mile walk that sets off from the hotel (Castle Rigg) and we decided to use follow the hotel recommendations. Beautiful walk not disappointed. ONLY LET DOWN - the house keeping, the tea/coffees/biscuits were not topped up throughout our stay and no teaspoons. The dirty mugs were not taken away and no clean ones provided. So we had to wash everything in the sink.

The new owners have retained the character and comfort of the Royal Oak but have improved the facilities. The food was nice but I don’t understand why veg and potatoes are charged extra.

I like the hotel , but found it lacking in a number of areas. The thing that disappointed me the most was the restaurant and bar. The food was extremely limited and was trying to be somthing it wasnt. I found the beer selection limited and the wine way over priced

Of all the Royal Oaks in the world this one was amazing. All expectations were exceeded. Room was super comfortable. Food was top notch.

What a beautiful property! The rooms are spacious and lovely with comfy beds, we slept with the window open to hear the babbling brook that runs along next door. The meals were delicious, the staff friendly and helpful and the bar has a nice selection. Highly recommend this lovely hotel in a beautiful spot!
