Amazing food and alcohol selection. Some of the best Jamaican food I have had in ages! There are more tame options but well worth trying the homemade food as it's clear they put the effort in

The blacksmith arms is laid back and friendly , the bed was comfortable and the ensuite had a bath ( yippee ) Jazz was friendly , and I am sad I didn’t get to eat there or have a shot of his great rum selection ( I was attending a wedding ) parking is available , although I used public transport and understand there is a lovely walk into Lewes town along the river . BSA delivered just what was needed xx

A welcoming country pub with an eclectic mix of accomodation, food and music. We were made to feel very welcome from start to finish and would highly recommend. Although the menu is limited, what is offered is very good and of a high standard. Rooms were very clean and comfortable with quality towels and bed linen.

A lovely slightly quirky pub/hotel with a Jamaican feel and menu. Very comfortable accommodation and a great breakfast with a friendly and welcoming staff team A little bit of bar noise from the pub if you are an early to bed type, and you are staying on a main road so there is some traffic noise if you want the window open. Having said that, we would definitely stay again when in the area. 5 minutes drive into Lewes. The main road isn't walking friendly.

Friendly run pub offered great service when we arrived late friday evening. Explained we wouldnt need breakfast the saturday morning as we were leaving early to particiapte in the south downs challenge. Suggested a breakfast tray they would leave outside our room. They did and included fruit, cereal and yogurts. Stayed in the Firle room. 4 poster bed very clean and bed was really comfy. Drinks in the bar reasonable priced and lovely welcome. Breakfast on sunday was full english. Options of cereal too orange juice and fresh coffee Breakfast was freshly cooked and perfect. Car park at rear of pub. Sign at front recommends to turn left when left when leaving and use turning circle 100 yards down the road. Very useful as cars speee past

Excellent small pub with very comfortable bedroom and en suite.

The hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Room was spacious, comfortable and clean with all required facilities. Plenty of parking space at the rear of the property. The pub had a nice, relaxed atmosphere. The Jamaican theme in the pub was a really nice - reggae music in the background and excellent Jamaican food on the menu as well as the standard pub options!! An excellent English breakfast was served in the morning. Will definitely return!!

Very nice, friendly - some might say quirky - hosts who made us feel very welcome and were great company. They helped us deal with a booking issue with no fuss. The pub itself is a little gem with a great selection of real ales, whiskies, and of course, rum. Appetising food, if you like authentic Caribbean fare. We didn’t find space for the apple crumble and rum custard this time, but we’ll be back. Room was basic but clean and quiet. We slept very well. The area is a great base for walks in the National Park, or into Lewes. We had a lovely time, thanks to Trixie and Jazz.

We needed an overnight stop near Lewes, this being a mile or so north. Though on a main road (A275) it is a quiet, unpretentious and old country pub between a couple of other houses (one a former smithy) with convenient parking and an outside sitting/eating area behind, as well as 'bistro' style eating in the large downstairs bar, with a good selection of beers etc. The room and bathroom were simple and spotless,with fine quality towels and bed linen. The eating menu is also simple with a Jamaican twist (the cook being Jamaican) but including excellent traditional fish and chips and the English breakfast included in the B&B cost also excellent. It overlooks green open country and a church on the other side of the road with a chalky track down through the woods towards Hamsey for a summer evening post-supper walk (at least in dry weather). It is too far out of Lewes to walk, though on a bus route in, but about 10 mins by car to parking in the town. A lucky find to which we would happily return.

We only stayed for one night , the room was clean and tidy , nice toiletries in the bathroom and lovely large fluffy towels were provided. Bed was comfy , not too many plug sockets in the room for charging phones etc. It’s an old building so the floors are uneven and everything creaks. Breakfast was adequate, not a lot of choice if you don’t like a full English.

Lovely room. Sparkling white bedding and towels. Clean. Friendly and helpful host. Super food. Will definitely recommend and would have no hesitation booking again if travelling in the area.

We were a little wary drawing up in the car park as the outside area is a bit rough and ready . Once inside we found a lovely traditional old inn and received a warm welcome , especially later when the fire was lit! The hallways and corridor are a bit shabby but our room was newly decorated , vey clean and warm . The bed was comfy with quality bed linens and huge fluffy towels . Tea and coffee making facilities , Wi-Fi code etc. We didn’t eat in the pretty blue and white restaurant which specialised in Jamaican fare but the menu looked good and prices reasonable. Breakfast was served in the restaurant :tea, coffee , cereals ,juice and a full English with real tomatoes and mushrooms ( not tinned )! It was served well presented and hot . All in all for our overnight stay The Blacksmiths Arms provided clean , warm, comfortable value for money .

The property was clean, plenty of hot water and good quality towels. Jazz was extremely helpful and obliging and always smiling. We had a very good stay. Thank you Jazz!

Friendly and accommodating B&B. The room was toastie warm with a very comfortable bed and lovely white towels. Very clean! Already booked again and would highly recommend if you’re looking for a quiet stay in this area

Room was very nicely presented and decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable, best night sleep ive had in a hotel. I loved it. There are some tiny details that may be able to be looked at sometime. The noise from the road was extreme, could some additional glazing be added in time. I had nowhere to sit and dry my hair as there was no mirror I could use with seating. Needed a bath mat for when you get out of the shower (Like a thick towel one as the floor is tiled). The room quality and cleanliness overall was excellent and I would highly recommend the hotel.

Proper small pub, quite basic, room however was quite nice, lovely bed with wonderful cotton bed linen, Soft bath towels as big as Africa, bathroom quite small but adequate, breakfast quite nice,

We realy enjoyed our stay. The proprietor, Jazz, couldn't have been more helpful or friendly, arranging check-in time at our convenience. It is a little noisy on a busy road, but has good double glazing, was quiet between 11pm and 6 am, and with ear-plugs we slept very well and uninterrupted. Highly reccommended.

A really nice overnight stay at The Blacksmiths Arms. We received a friendly welcome and was shown to our room. Bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was lovely and clean with the whitest fluffiest towels! Breakfast was amazing! Would definitely recommend!

Stated pets allowed throughout property so booked a room - however pets not allowed in rooms and suggested they sleep in the car. Could not stay and refused to refund room and were quite rude and disinterested- said to staff to ignore us, it was policy and nothing they could do. Wouldn’t refund even though room had only been booked about 4 hours previously. Terrible service in todays climate

We stayed at The Blacksmiths Arms one weekend night. We were able to check in earlier than expected and were made to feel very welcome. The room was large and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The pub itself is classically styled with wonderfully fresh cask beer. The owners were very hands-on and friendly. We'd happily stay at The Blacksmiths Arms again.

Great hospitality, and excellent value

1. The pub is shut on Mondays&Tuesdays completely! This is not clear at all on booking. I stayed on a Tuesday. I talked to the female owner after I learnt this much later in checkin details. She immediately threatened to cancel my booking as I "was obviously a difficult customer!" No understanding that the reason people book a B&B in a pub is that they want the pub experience and not just a Travelodge/ room experience. 2. Having calmed her down and established that I'd still like to stay, I asked for a small compromise. Our breakfast at 7.40 instead of in the very narrow window of 8 to 9. She agreed. 3. On arrival the male owner greeted me with what at best can be described as neutrality. When he told me that breakfast was served between 8 and 9 I then told him that his colleague had agreed 7.40. He then stated that he cooked breakfast and didnt like cooking that early. I reaffirmed that that was the agreement. He begrudgingly agreed.. with a grunt! So.. this was a management that could really "do enough for you".. no "not" at the beginning. 4. The room was stiflingly hot. no amount of opening windows solved. As if a challenge to the radiators! 5 In the night/early a.m. much noise in car park and through fire door. 6. Breakfast was good and well cooked but greeting by same male unfriendly and monosyllabic. My partner said he was glowering at me behind my back even though I thanked him for starting early. The room was nice but the attitude of both managers...oh dear!

A real country pub with very comfortable en-suite rooms. Excellent breakfast cooked to order. Jazz and Drixi are very friendly and helpful landlord and landlady.15 - 20 minutes easy drive to Glyndebourne.

Nice, quiet countryside environment. Within walking distance from Lewes town where there are many pubs, restaurants etc. Good kitchen. Nice people. Well isolated inside from traffic noise outside.

Great BNB with lovely staff and delicious food, beautiful scenic location too!

Amazing welcome and a great chef, sadly the location is pretty remote and the road (out of the car park particularly) is far from safe. There is no where to walk from the pub either. Bed was great, bathroom is great, everything was clean, breakfast was delicious.

Caribbean food was excellent, as was the full English breakfast. Room was large enough and comfortable. Landlord and staff were friendly and helpful. Restricted opening hours on Sundays - no evening dining - was a limitation for us.

Really great stay during a short walking trip to the South Downs. Lovely, comfortable room and en-suite bathroom, and the evening meal was absolutely fabulous! Big portions, tasty, and the Caribbean cuisine is exceptional. Great breakfast, as well, and lovely, friendly hosts. We’ll definitely be back.

All good and excellent for a 1 night stay following a local wedding reception. Breakfast was very good although I would have preferred a 9 - 10 breakfast on a Sunday morning rather than an 8 - 9

It was warm and clean, the staff were friendly and the food was nice, but unfortunately the pub/restuarant was closed on both Monday and Tuesday. Worth it's 9 out of 10 score

We stayed in room called Cissbury, very warm and we had to turn radiator off. Breakfast was excellent cooked fresh. We eat in the pub even though they were busy service was excellent and enjoyed the Caribbean cuisine. If you enjoy staying pubs do not miss this one.

Great family run business. Love the Jamaican vibe, unfortunately they didn’t do food on a Monday or Tuesday so didn’t get chance to sample. Bed was extremely comfortable too and good hot water pressure in the bathroom.
