A quirky place. Mark is very friendly, but keeps a tight ship. It is small and he seems to be the hotel staff, so check in is exact: not before17.00 unless by asking. It is dog friendly, but only in 2 rooms. The highlight was the superb restaurant Jambo with a strong Kenyan influence. Outstanding There is also by repute an excellent Thai restaurant out the back, but unlike Jambo not dog friendly.

Located in the High Street, which is convenient, and we were not troubled by noise at all. The greeting and service from Mark could not have been friendlier, and the locals in the bar were very affable. A fascinating, quirky building which is being upgraded and improved - the rooftop sun terrace is very pleasant. No hotel car park but street parking outside & a public car park are free. We ate at the excellent Kenyan/Fusion Restaurant and wished we were staying longer to sample more dishes. The Thai Restaurant at the back was full of apparently happy customers. We would happily stay here again.

The service here is exceptional, definitely an 6 stars, which adds to the properties charm, we particularly liked the roof top terrace where we enjoyed two of the amazing gins on offer. Our room was airy, bright and nicely decorated with lovely shower too. The good here is amazing too, with really interesting options so much so we were struggling to decide, always good. It is a 18th century property though so floors are not flat and stairs as they were proactive in advising before we got here, not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Can highly recommend and would certainly book again.

Booked a room for 2 nights and did not realise that I would be able to hear the bar from my room. The Hotel is in front of a busy small roundabout. With Cars and lorries clearly using Cricklade as a rat run, the noise was all night. The final and most dangerous aspect of staying at this hotel was the way in which I was expected to leave the building. It was via a tight spiral staircase at the back. This was just about OK when I left the first morning, but checking out with a large heavy suitcase was scary and simply dangerous. I almost fell twice. This was a ridiculous method of exit. For this reason alone I would NEVER use this place again and nor would I recommend it to anyone - unless you are interested in trying to break your neck.

To say it was my first time in the Cotswolds area, I was made to feel right at home as soon as I entered the building- Mark is very friendly. Nice pub/restaurant downstairs, and my room was great too- very clean, secure and equipped beyond the necessities for a hotel room. En-suite to the same standard too. There’s also a free 24hour car park behind the building (very safe). Absolutely nothing to complain about- top marks. Would definitely recommend- cheers for the stay!

Very easy to find at the T-juction at the top of Calcutt Street. I actually parked in Calcutt Street for free as there are some spaces there. There's also a free car park very close by. The hotel is in a great location on the High Street. I had a single room, number 2, lovely and clean and a really comfy bed. Kettle, tea, coffee and milk pods provided. I didn't need an evening meal but plenty of places nearby to eat out or Tesco Express if you want a snack. Same for breakfast the next day (I went to The Cricklade Club, excellent). Despite the room looking out onto the main road, the traffic noise is not a problem as there are 2 sets windows and shutters plus curtains. It is made very clear that check-in was between 5pm and 9pm was was no problem for me, straight into the pub and up to the room. To enter and exit outside of pub hours there is a metal spiral staircase. Again it is made very clear when booking that if you have mobility problems this may be an issue. I exited after heavy rain and although the stairs were wet they are well designed and were not at all slippery. Decent handrail in place. I would definitely return and would highly recommend.

I was very happy with my stay. First it was good value and although there’s no on site parking, there was a free car park just around the corner. The staff were friendly and my room was a decent size, temperature and with a comfy bed/pillows. It was well equipped and had good water pressure in the shower. It was also clean. I also ate my dinner here and the steak was excellent.

We had two nights in a comfortable room, spacious...clean with all necessary facilities. Double glazed to prevent disturbance from traffic. Access via metal spiral staircase fire escape could be an issue for less able visitors...but we were fine. Staff helpful. We found an excellent shop/cafe for breakfast further down High St run by 4th generation local family and can recommend the local fish/chip shop. Wouldn't hesitate to return when back in Cricklade area again.

From the moment we arrived at The Vale Hotel, we were made to feel completely at home by the wonderful young owners. Their warmth and genuine hospitality set the tone for a perfect stay. Our room was absolutely gorgeous—beautifully designed, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. Every facility was impeccable, clearly cared for with pride and attention to detail. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and we will definitely be returning. A truly fantastic stay from start to finish!

I stayed here for a night by myself on way to work. Really warm and efficient welcome on a wet and rainy night. I checked into a fabulousy clean and well appointed bedroom with a lovely view down the road. The room had wooden shutter and curtains which really kept out the light and sound and I slept like a log. It was exceptionally clean, lovely comfortable bed and at £42 a night was an absolute bargain. I had a quick glass of wine in the bar and met a lovely fellow guest who stayed there a lot due to work. Shower was powerful, there was a hairdryer, tv and also plenty of tea and coffees available in the room. The owner was friendly, really relaxed atmosphere and an easy departure the next morning. I’ll be back again. Keep up the excellent work. Thanks for letting me stay!

Very handy considering I had last minute trip to Swindon and didn't fancy the drive back to Birmingham at that time of night. Food was excellent and came quickly. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overwhelming smell of paint didn't make for a great night's sleep but that would just be my luck that night. Overall I'd recommend this place though

Where to start! The room had several niggles such as no socket near the bed, a mirror standing on the floor instead of on the wall and a timed light in the bathroom that goes off halfway through your shower all of which I could have coped with however on my second night, after being told the bar downstairs was quiet and closed at 11 there was very loud 80's music played until after 1.30am making sleep difficult. My room was not serviced after the first night so I put the sign out requesting the room to be cleaned after the second night, again no cleaning, not even the bin was emptied despite the booking site saying they had daily housekeeping. I am in this area often but will not be returning

Very friendly host, dinner in their restaurant excellent. Can tell food is made from scratch. Lovely flavours, both the slow cooked beef brisket and the chicken curry. Room was immaculately clean, nice thick towels and soft bedlinen. I have managed branded and non-branded hotels so can tell when a room is clean.

The Vale is a great hotel! I stayed here while walking the Thames Path, and it was a perfect stop-off. My room was immaculately clean and had everything I needed. I was able to check in early, which was great. I am a woman travelling alone and was made to feel very welcome in the bar/restaurant in the evening, and had a delicious meal. Thank you very much!

The place was clean, but many issues that did not make the stay great. Many light switches not working, light on top of stairs not woking (HS issue). No door on toilet, lack of personal privacy for us and bed way too small and room very small. Check in times are very strange, no breakfast. They were 4 in a bed winner with previous managers. Defenitely not now.

We were only here 1 night for a party but the experience was a good one. Room was small but enough room to spend a night and was clean and comfortable. Loved the garden out the back and a good range of drinks were available. Cricklade is pretty and would definitely stay here again.

Very easy to find at the T-juction at the top of Calcutt Street. I actually parked in Calcutt Street for free as there are some spaces there. There's also a free car park very close by. The hotel is in a great location on the High Street. I had a single room, number 2, lovely and clean and a really comfy bed. Kettle, tea, coffee and milk pods provided. I didn't need an evening meal but plenty of places nearby to eat out or Tesco Express if you want a snack. Same for breakfast the next day (I went to The Cricklade Club, excellent). Despite the room looking out onto the main road, the traffic noise is not a problem as there are 2 sets windows and shutters plus curtains. It is made very clear that check-in was between 5pm and 9pm was was no problem for me, straight into the pub and up to the room. To enter and exit outside of pub hours there is a metal spiral staircase. Again it is made very clear when booking that if you have mobility problems this may be an issue. I exited after heavy rain and although the stairs were wet they are well designed and were not at all slippery. Decent handrail in place. I would definitely return and would highly recommend.

Lovely room but wifi didn't work, bedside lights didn't work so had to leave the bathroom light on to get around, toilet seat broken and precarious. Could have been brilliant if a little maintenence had been attended to.

It was easy to book and checking in was easy once I found the right phone number. I had many emails confirming booking and one of the phone numbers listed took me to an irate gentleman who had not been involved with the hotel for 2 years. Need to check that all numbers are valid. The room was very nicely furnished and presented but the blind was impossible to raise so no natural daylight available. I cant comment on the catering as none was available over Christmas and this was made clear at the time of booking, so all fine.

Located in the High Street, which is convenient, and we were not troubled by noise at all. The greeting and service from Mark could not have been friendlier, and the locals in the bar were very affable. A fascinating, quirky building which is being upgraded and improved - the rooftop sun terrace is very pleasant. No hotel car park but street parking outside & a public car park are free. We ate at the excellent Kenyan/Fusion Restaurant and wished we were staying longer to sample more dishes. The Thai Restaurant at the back was full of apparently happy customers. We would happily stay here again.

Where to start! The room had several niggles such as no socket near the bed, a mirror standing on the floor instead of on the wall and a timed light in the bathroom that goes off halfway through your shower all of which I could have coped with however on my second night, after being told the bar downstairs was quiet and closed at 11 there was very loud 80's music played until after 1.30am making sleep difficult. My room was not serviced after the first night so I put the sign out requesting the room to be cleaned after the second night, again no cleaning, not even the bin was emptied despite the booking site saying they had daily housekeeping. I am in this area often but will not be returning

Thank you to Taylor for looking after me. I arrived late for check-in and Taylor dealt with the check-in procedure. Swiftly led me to the room and explained the early morning exit procedure. Taylor also prepared 2 fabulous espresso martinis. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and the room was very quiet in a quirky period building fused with modern interior.

i was given a warm reception on arrival and this theme carried on throughout my three night stay. The room i was allocated was excellent, clean, warm and spacious with a ensuite shower and plenty of storage space. The bar / restaurant area was a pleasure to enjoy the food was outstanding and the company likewise. It is a long time since i have a enjoyed such a warm atmosphere and will be returning again when i am in the area, thank you Mark.

The room was fine for the price. Parking was on the street behind a short walk away. The exit was down a narrow spiral staircase, quite scary with a suitcase. My stay was ruined by the roadworks right outside the bedroom window, they stopped digging at 10pm! Unfortunate timing. Noisy traffic too.

The Vale is a great hotel! I stayed here while walking the Thames Path, and it was a perfect stop-off. My room was immaculately clean and had everything I needed. I was able to check in early, which was great. I am a woman travelling alone and was made to feel very welcome in the bar/restaurant in the evening, and had a delicious meal. Thank you very much!

It is dog friendly, but only in 2 rooms. The highlight was the superb restaurant Jambo with a strong Kenyan influence. Outstanding There is also by repute an excellent Thai restaurant out the back, but unlike Jambo not dog friendly.

I was very happy with my stay. First it was good value and although there’s no on site parking, there was a free car park just around the corner. The staff were friendly and my room was a decent size, temperature and with a comfy bed/pillows. It was well equipped and had good water pressure in the shower. It was also clean. I also ate my dinner here and the steak was excellent.

Very friendly host, dinner in their restaurant excellent. Can tell food is made from scratch. Lovely flavours, both the slow cooked beef brisket and the chicken curry. Lovely room, great hotel, so friendly, so surprised to be given a free double upgrade! Oh and the food, amazing fusion goat curry! Certainly staying again as a half stop from home in North Wales to work in London. Nice speckled hen ale. Looking forward to them offering breakfast!

Friendly owners Mark & Helen, We travelled to Cricklade ant to the Vale Hotel from Finland with my 12 -years old son. The idea was to attend the cancelled RIAT in RAF Fairford. Mark was super helpful for finding alternative things to do with my son. Will come back for 2027 RIAT and stay here. Would highly recommend the hotel.

First, you can't check in till 5pm. Second, the shower is small and slippery when wet. When I mentioned that I'd nearly fallen twice and it needed a non-slip mat, I was told can't be done as this would be an admission that there is a problem. Plus, the light in the bathroom is on a motion sensor timer and kept cutting out leaving me in the shower, in the dark. It sounds comical but with the slippery shower base and total darkness, it wasn't funny. I had to open the shower door and wave my arm to restore light. Also, it says that shower-gel, etc, is supplied; One small bottle of hand soap. Third, the TV didn't work. Weak, or no, signal. The response of the manager on being informed: "It's probably been knocked by a previous occupant and anyway, we're replacing all the TVs with smart TVs." Fourth, they don't serve breakfast. Fifth, and worst, you can't leave by the front door in the morning but have to exit by a door that opens onto a flat roof, and descend to ground level by means of a spiral staircase which should be condemned as a safety hazzard. It's sturdy enough, but the treads are so small that I had to descend one careful step at a time as there isn't enough tread to allow the normal motion. Anybody really frail would have to descend backwards and supported from below. (I know whereof I speak having been a fireman and a builder subject to building regs.) Beer = excellent. Food = okay. Hotel is run in a way that serves the convenience of the manager, not his guests.

It's sturdy enough, but the treads are so small that I had to descend one careful step at a time as there isn't enough tread to allow the normal motion. Anybody really frail would have to descend backwards and supported from below. (I know whereof I speak having been a fireman and a builder subject to building regs.) Beer = excellent. Food = okay. Hotel is run in a way that serves the convenience of the manager, not his guests.
