Scotsman's Pack Hotel

A lovely Inn to stay in historic Hathersage. Small car park that made parking a little tricky at times. Pleasant room overlooking the car park. Bed a little uncomfortable but not a problem. Excellent food and drink in the pub. Breakfast time is limited to 8:30 to 9:30 although they did a slightly later breakfast for us on the Saturday so that my wife could do the nearby parkrun.

Very cozy and nice hotel. The room was located above the pub and was well cleaned and prepared for our arrival. The breakfast in the morning was awesome and the staff were very friendly. If you arrive during the school pick up time, expect to wait for parking as people tend to use pub’s parking lot to wait for their kids.

Pub with character and good food. A great location for walking in the Peak District.

Great hotel over a bar. Wonderful food and great beer. Don't stay here if you are on a diet. The Thursday qui night is huge fun

The hotel is in a lovely location, close to the centre of Hathersage, but tucked away on a quiet backroad. It is an easy walk from the station and walks into the Peak District countryside are on the doorstep. Food at the hotel was delicious with generous portions and breakfast included in the price. Great service, particularly at breakfast time. There is some noise from the pub until closing time, but then very peaceful.

A characterful pub with a lovely beer garden by a little stream. Delicious breakfast. Friendly staff. Within walking distance to shops and cafes and the path leading up to walks up to Stanage Edge.

Stayed here on a drive north and it was a very lucky find! Lovely country inn in a quiet spot at the edge of the village. Stayed in a beautiful room which was excellent value. Tasty food in a sunny outdoor area. Happened to be on a pub quiz night which was fun! Very handy for Stanage Edge, either a short drive or a scenic walk. Comfortable and friendly stay.

The Scotsman's Pack Hotel shows as 4 star hotel, that's what the review is based on. The hotel has 5 rooms over a pub / restaurant. To be fair, in our room we did not hear noise from the restaurant. The room had a bed too short for a 6'1 person. There was only space for one night stand, no refrigerator. Room interior overall was basic to outdated. The cars driving students to the the school opposite of the hotel created some morning noise (with the windows closedI. The parking spots for pub / restaurant and hotel are shared, the nights the pub did well, the guests had to park somewhere else and re-park after the pub guests had left. So in summary, I would say it was an average 3 start hotel experience. Not remotely close to a 4 star.

Stayed here for one night, staff was extremely pleasant & helpful! We were running late and called for a late check in which was graciously awarded. Despite being above a pub, the noise level was moderate to none! A huge benefit for dinner plans was that we could walk downstairs and enjoy a pint. Fish and chips were divine, as well as the vegetarian Wellington!

Friendly and helpful staff. Food very good. Breakfast great. Service excellent. The pub was decorated tastefully for Christmas. A lovely atmosphere. Good value for money. Our bathroom needed a little tlc.

Firstly, lovely pub, great atmosphere, good range of food and drinks. Bar staff for afternoon and evening were lovely, we had a great time. I booked a twin room with ensuite (#3) as no more singles available. Again room was very nice, clean and nice touch of biscuits. Ensuite was clean and a good size. But the shower didn't work, just a trickle of water. Only found out in the morning and didn't want to run a bath. On checkout i told the staff who said i should have pulled the cord! What cord!! It wasnt an electric shower so i hadn't looked for a cord (why would you). Anyway, i emailed the pub when home, explaining the issue. No reply. 2 days later i resent the email to get a 'sorry, i checked it, it does work but not much water comes out, all the others work and ive called a plumber'! Not great customer service and no offer of a little compensation (ive paid for a sower after all). So, unfortunately i will never go back nor recommend it to anyone, which is a shame.

Perfect situation for walking into town and local beauty spots. Very noisy room, sound of water pump ? Coming on and switching off was a constant. Room above kitchen so smell of food cooking was gross. Had to keep window open as ot was so hot. Mould on shower seal and head. Everything else's e spotless.

Lovely old Inn. Based in a lovely village and a short drive to the extensive moors. The Inn outside was very colourful with flowers. Outside seating area was clean and attractive. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room was very clean and well stocked with tea,coffee,milk, biscuits and a Bakewell pudding. Toiletries in the bathroom. Good choice of menu. Well cooked and delicious food. A good place to stay and relax.

Great pub with very friendly staff. Room was very clean. We had evening meal at it was superb, finally breakfast was excellent.

We stayed one night in Room 1 it was spotless a good size powerful hairdryer and toiletries x

Lovely properly very friendly staff clean and welcoming

First off, the pub is lovely, the food is great and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Our ‘room’ was number 4. It used to be a fire exit before it was converted. There is a lit fire exit sign in the room which is always on. This disturbed my sleep a lot. It’s like a green night light. They turned it off on the 2nd night. There is a fire exit sign because there is a fire exit to the outside in the room, with a curtain across it. This makes the room cold despite the heating being on constantly. I was also woken by the plumbing on both nights, which was loud enough to record on my phone. The towel rail in the bathroom has the temperature of several suns and conveniently located at the same height as the light pull, so you can burn your hand on it when turning the light on. We ended up wrapping it in towels. The shower is unusable as it is scalding hot and very poor flow. It apparently has 2 settings - off and scalding. No adjustments make any difference. Our friends also stayed in the hotel and the other rooms don’t have the same issues, although they did hear the plumbing.

The staff were lovely behind the bar, the bedroom was a little small for a couple and the bed was also small for a double bed at 5ft 7 in my feel where hanging out of the bottom The shower was terrible, water coming out of it had very low pressure and took ages to have a shower. The same was happening with the sink. There was an empty water bottle under the bed left from the pervious people. On a plus side the bar staff were very friendly. The breakfast on the first day was very nice although the cups of tea was not hot. Breakfast on the 2nd morning was not as good, the cooked breakfast was very salty. The surroundings were lovely and quaint

The staff are very accommodating, assisting with luggage, etc. This is a pub with 5 rooms. The room is small but they provide coffee and tea and the bed was comfortable. The only challenge was finding convenient plugs for charging electronics.

Loose tap in the bathroom, shower door not very clean, WiFi stopped working before 10pm and no longer accepted the password for hotel guests.

All I can say is it was ok. the sound of running water kept me awake, but thats partley down to the weather

Very cosy pub with excellent walking close by. Noisy in bedroom until music in pub stopped at 11:30pm but lovely place to stop. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good too.

Our 5th consecutive stay over August bank holiday says it all really, fairly priced, excellent (free) breakfast and evening menu. Staff are always attentive, friendly and courteous. We’ll be booking for next year 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovely pub hotel. Old style rooms, but comfortable and with tea & coffee (and hot chocolate!) making facilities. Nice modern bathroom. Friendly staff. Some lovely paintings by a local artist in the bar area, added to the pleasing decor. My only, only criticism is that on arrival I was told that I shoudl be back by 11:00pm... I was 17 again.... There was no key to the front door. A Housekeep is on duty over night, so the idea ius to ring a bell and someone would come and let me in (I had friends staying in another hotel that I couldn't book into, and was with them until about 11:30 one night, just after midnight the next. First night it took about 10 minutes to rouse the housekeeper, the second I continued to press the bell push (can't hear it ringing inside) for 20 minutes, in the rain, wondering whether I'd be able to sleep in my car. Then out of frustration I pulled the front door and found that it hadn't been properly shut...! So managed to get in. But honestly, this is ridiculous. Find a way to get customers in at their choice of time! A key safe on the outside with a code that can be changed daily, would be a cheap and effective method if you don't want multiple keys - or a digital lock! Sorry for rant, but it was the really frustrating.. Other than that - lovely place - breakfast was superb and the service very attentive. I didn't eat dinner there, so can't comment on that. Hopefully a response will come to put the concerns of 'dirty stop-outs' to rest!

Lovely overnight stay with breakfast included at the Scotsman's Pack. The room was clean and thoughtfully appointed and staff were friendly and professional. We also had a relaxing evening meal in their beautiful garden. Highly recommend.

Great place to stay in Hathersage. Location is very good with easy access to loads of walks. The pub itself is really nice with very tasty food!

Staff were very friendly and made me feel at home. Very close to a number of walks and an easy bus ride to more. Entire town quite lovely. Would certainly stay here again.

Great position for exploring surrounding area

A great stay, good room and staff in a beautiful location.

The room was comfortable - good beds,super biscuits and selection of teas,coffee and hot chocolate.Food in the inn superb and staff friendly and helpful-especially liked Robert the morning chap ! Location was great we visited most of the hope valley by bus plus the village has lots of cafes etc.

Traditional style hotel, friendly, courteous staff throughout the stay, room was small but had everything we needed for our one night stay, clean bathroom, although the showers water pressure wasn't the best. Excellent evening meal and breakfast, located just off the main road, very good for exploring the rest of the village.

Room and evening staff excellent. Breakfast a little chaotic. Little notice of the written request (I asked for no black pudding or baked beans and received both and white toast and had granary. Also we ordered cereal and croissant to be eaten before the main course but because the breakfasts were already plated up before we arrived we were not offered them until after

My fiancé and I stayed here for one night after completing the Kinder Scout climb. It was easy to find and the service was fantastic as soon as we came in the door. The environment was warm, inviting and had a cosy feel to it - just what you need after a whole day of walking. We had some drinks with a ‘pie and a pint’ offer for £18 which was absolutely delicious. We also shared a starter and dessert which were equally as delicious. We slept really well, the bedroom was so nice and bed was soft and comfortable. Even though we were told the wrong time for breakfast, the waiter was really accommodating and made sure we had the best breakfast (it truly was one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had!). We both really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return for when we do more outdoor walks in the Peak District.
