What an amazing find in rural Herefordshire. We just needed a bed for the night, but got a whole lot more: a wonderful welcome from the barman who was aware of my disabled friend’s requirements, and nothing was too much trouble for him; a table reserved for dinner next to the accessible door; a lovely accessible bedroom with external step free access; spotlessly clean with relevant adaptations to the bathroom including a seat in the shower; tasty pub food served efficiently and with a smile, and to cap it all 4 different local Wye Valley real ales on tap served in this traditional pub full of friendly locals. We will definitely return!

Very good staff, excellent safe parking for my motorbike. Food excellent and decent price, I don’t usually go for set meals but it worked for me. Beer is spot on ales. Butty Bach is served well. My ONLY gripe was that the room was 36deg because no one had bothered to open windows and ventilate it. The whole night it only dropped to 27deg with all windows open. Otherwise I would have given it more stars. Also the ‘continental’ breakfast is basically toast and cereals, no fresh coffee.

The suite accommodation was very interesting with the bed on a mezzanine floor. This was very comfortable and was the strongest positive point of the stay. Sadly the internet (which also controlled the TV) was extremely patchy and unusable. The restaurant (a pub dating back to 1560) was charming but had problems with service which was slow. Food was OK but nothing special.

we were very impressed with the value of England's Gate .Plenty of convenient parking, the room, although small, was immaculately clean, very well and comprehensively equipped. there was also a generous hospitality tray. Breakfast is DIY but do not judge! The selection of food on offer is wide, a choice of hot drinks, juices, yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit and bakery goods is enormous. We also dined in the restaurant were we had good food at sensible prices. Nothing not to like about this place, we would not hesitate to return.

Room’s excellent, menus very good with 3 courses for £19:95, drinks average price for the area, excellent dining / bar area. The only thing we found slightly lacking was the continental breakfast, but it was still acceptable.

A last minute booking at this small out of the way historic inn. It was busy at the bar where we checked in so a short wait. Room was basic but well appointed, bed super comfy, shower was hot, tea and coffee in room. Self serve continental breakfast in a dining room was great. Food in the restaurant was amazing and beautifully presented. Set in a small town with adjoining farmland. Close the Hampton Court Castle and gardens.

A great place as a base to visit Herefordshire. The food in the pub was all freshly cooked to order and there was a good selection of beers and wines. The staff were excellent particularly the bar manager (Cam), he was totally aware of customer needs throughout the pub. The Arkwright room was a good size, well equipped and clean however, the stairs to the raised bed area could be a problem for some people and the bathroom is downstairs. Overall, for us, it was exactly what we were looking for and the rates were very reasonable. The continental breakfast self served in the communal breakfast room was enough to set us up for the day. I would stay there again.

Room was lovely and comfortable, spotlessly clean and much bigger than it looked on the website. Pub staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the food was delicious. Breakfast options were plentiful and for the price of the deal, I couldn’t recommend highly enough. If it had been twice the price, it would have been worth it.

The room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, such good value! We booked a table for 7pm at the pub, so pleased we did. The food was excellent, the two ladies worked very efficiently serving food & serving drinks. Hannah was friendly, or as my wife put it " such a lovely young lady".

Decent room and comfortable bed, but hadn't been hoovered on our arrival and we found previous guest's hair almost everywhere in the room, toilet and bath included. Light fixtures only half-worked, WiFi signal was weak, the entire room shook when our neighbour used their front door and there was no curtain on the skylight. That said, it's a relatively cost-effective stay, we had a decent night's sleep both evenings and it's a short car journey to Hay-on-Wye, which is the reason we booked in the first place.

The property is lovely the mattress was a bit too soft for me in room 6 the free continental breakfast was great yogurts cerials fruit toast etc very hot in the room could do with a flat sheet on bed instead of a thick quilt so that you could have just had the sheet covering you some one else said that too

Fantastic clean room, a great shower and a comfortable bed, all situated next to a great pub that serves great food, great beer complimented by super friendly efficient staff. 5 massive stars, This will be the only place I will stay in this area from now on

Staff at check in was helpful and I enjoyed the Pub atmosphere. Food was good at the Pub and the staff was exceptionally helpful when Expedia goofed up our reservation.

A lovely stay here and even managed to get one of their suites. Dan was extremely helpful showing us to our room and also going out of his way to reserve us a table for dinner, thank you! Dinner was lovely and great value also. Would definitely book here again!

Wasnt able to gain access to the property phoned around 30+ times with no answer been waiting on a responce for a refund for around a week now with no responce hotels.com is also to blame with ridiculous regulations. The guy ispoke to on the phone a few days later was very helpful and stated about the issue and it wasnt a problme but how long all this has been now its just beyond a joke

Generally the room was ok although the door catches on the floor so only opens partway - not so easy to get in, carrying luggage. Door was difficult to lock and after breakfast, when I returned to my room, I couldnt unlock the door. Rang the pub door, rang their phone, emailed. No response, no one around. Another guest eventually helped, but he also had trouble. Finally unlocked, but really not ideal.

Great little stay with lovely food in the pub. My only negative was the sound of road traffic but that can’t really be helped. Nice selection of continental breakfast too :) would stay again.
Great little stay with lovely food in the pub. My only negative was the sound of road traffic but that can’t really be helped. Nice selection of continental breakfast too :) would stay again.

A last minute booking at this small out of the way historic inn. It was busy at the bar where we checked in so a short wait. Room was basic but well appointed, bed super comfy, shower was hot, tea and coffee in room. Self serve continental breakfast in a dining room was great. Food in the restaurant was amazing and beautifully presented. Set in a small town with adjoining farmland. Close the Hampton Court Castle and gardens.

Good location for travelling overnight. Quiet at night. Do it yourself continental breakfast - would have liked plain yoghurt only flavoured on provided. Fruit choices only banana /apple! We were able to book a table for evening meal but staying guests not reserved a table ,so prior reservation required.

Very convenient place to stay for us when visiting Bodenham . Very good value for money in a quiet rural location . Super pub with good menu choice . Lovely staff . Very clean room . Only comment would be that our bed was very soft and it’s a shame it wasn’t a king size rather than a double .

It was perfect, good value for money and a lovely quiet location. Staff were friendly and the rooms were lovely. Views were fab and the pub was povely too. Will definitely be returning!

A lovely old pub surrounded by peaceful countryside. Our bedroom was clean,tea &coffee, shower gel, shampoo & conditioner all supplied. The staff are all very friendly,and willing to help in any way.

A last minute booking for a business trip. I can not recommend this place highly enough. Fantastic clean room, a great shower and a comfortable bed, all situated next to a great pub that serves great food, great beer complimented by super friendly efficient staff. 5 massive stars, This will be the only place I will stay in this area from now on

Evening meal was lovely, just a little disappointed about breakfast as we didn’t realise it was just cereals toast and yogurt. The fruit in the fruit bowl was a little soft.

The suite accommodation was very interesting with the bed on a mezzanine floor. This was very comfortable and was the strongest positive point of the stay. Sadly the internet (which also controlled the TV) was extremely patchy and unusable. The restaurant (a pub dating back to 1560) was charming but had problems with service which was slow. Food was OK but nothing special.

Room’s excellent, menus very good with 3 courses for £19:95, drinks average price for the area, excellent dining / bar area. The only thing we found slightly lacking was the continental breakfast, but it was still acceptable.

A great place as a base to visit Herefordshire. The food in the pub was all freshly cooked to order and there was a good selection of beers and wines. The staff were excellent particularly the bar manager (Cam), he was totally aware of customer needs throughout the pub. The Arkwright room was a good size, well equipped and clean however, the stairs to the raised bed area could be a problem for some people and the bathroom is downstairs. Overall, for us, it was exactly what we were looking for and the rates were very reasonable. The continental breakfast self served in the communal breakfast room was enough to set us up for the day. I would stay there again.

The produce was prepackaged, and really wasn’t a Continental breakfast. Croissants in wrappers, no fresh meat, cheese or rolls. No filter coffee. A bit of effort could have made something special.

The location is perfect for exploring the local area and the bonus is the pub with local cider and excellent food options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. Lovely one night stay. We knew room was small when we booked but it had everything we needed. Clean comfortable bed and very clean bathroom. We couldn't get radiator to come on but we found the thermostat by the door in the morning. The pub itself was welcoming. Breakfast facilities was great. Would definately stay again

An amazing place lovely room to relax in, perfect size TV to relax for the evening. Cameron was very attentive and extremely helpful as he was running the bar too. Worth the drive from South Wales to stay again !!

I stay here when working away from home, it does what it says , it’s an ideal base with great staff . Good food too . No cooked breakfast but then that suits me as I can grab and go from a self service area , no hanging around . Ideal !
