Fabulous quiet room with a great bed for sleeping. Excellent breakfast and professional staff and service. Great to have free easily accessible parking.

Stayed in a classic courtyard room 42. Everything spotless. Easy to park close, ground floor for ease of access. Property is a short walk to town centre for the hall for Cornwall with beautiful grounds.

This is gem of a hotel for those looking to stay in Truro. A 10min walk gets you into the town centre, but the hotel feels a world away surrounded by lush gardens. A beautiful historic building that’s been decorated to a high standard. Staff were helpful - and I’m not sure how I managed it, but we got an upgrade to the Bishop Suite - a jaw-dropping room and a bathroom with twin claw foot tubs. Breakfast was good and so were the cocktails.

It’s a beautiful hotel and space. But they have none of the amenities that you would expect in a hotel like this. No children’s play corner, no gym, no sauna. These are things that we look for when we visit Truro. With the amount of space they have it would be easy to add one or two family amenities. Also the shower gel and shampoo bottles we almost empty and didn’t last for the two day trip

Went for a weekend break in October with family. Was lucky to have beautiful autum sunshine ☀️ throughout the weekend. Old castle/ convent converted into hotel. Very peaceful and quiet, civilised. Pleasant and helpful staff, comfortable bedding, booked an executive suit which for UK, hotels was huge and the breakfast was amazing/ delicious . The staff went above and beyond to help and make us comfortable. Ample parking and just ten mins walk to the main amenities. I would highly recommend for a short break.

Old school hotel with old school values. Enthusiastic waiting staff not communicating with each other very well on food orders. Prices at top end of 4 star hotel rates. Last minute booking at £50 of £180 off saw us in a very stuffy small room with poor airflow. Ceiling vents/extraction ineffective in toilet and bedroom. Small fridge in the wardrobe with a bottle of water in it…. No mini bar Courtyard lights on ALL night meant high light pollution into room. Leaning toward events and weddings as a money earner. Clean generally but is showing its age as expected. Good parking available and a few minutes from town centre. Nothing else much there as facilities so no gym, no pool, and no facility to do anything but eat and sleep.

Always enjoy our stay at the Alverton. I've been in a few different rooms now. They are all equally comfortable. The main difference in space in the room. Enjoyed great cocktails at the bar and also a lovely meal at their summer bbq on this occasion. It's a convenient place to stay for walking into the city centre. Highly recommend a visit. Great for a night if heading to a show at the Hall for Cornwall.

Perfect for weddings and events. There are separate rooms which aren't connected to the hotel and are in a courtyard to give a bit more extra privacy. Food was delicious and good value for money overall

We loved the atmosphere of the Alverton and its grounds. There was plenty of space for parking and the reception was only a short walk. The rooms we had were very well presented and very clean. I have marked down on the eco credentials as all the lights and television were on when we arrived which wasn't necessary. The terrace was a great place to sit in the late afternoon for a pre-dinner drink. At times the bar staff were talking to each other rather than looking after customers needs but they were always polite. We ate dinner the first night of our stay which was delicious and at a reasonable price. Breakfast was very good too. I would recommend this hotel to my friends.

The ease of parking, closeness to the city, the historic building, good food, choice of food - all points in recommending the Alverton.

Clean and plenty of space in the room

For £250 a night i expected a whole lot more. Room was average size. The bed was small. The bathroom had mould in it - by the windows and all around the bath. Imside the bath either wasnt cleaned properlyor was stained. A used Toothbrush was left on the side. The fan for the room was broken in the middle of a heat wave. The room was also up 3 flights of stairs. For someone with mobility issues it was incredibly difficult. Would not recommend. A travelodge has better rooms.

Lovely hotel. The room was spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly. We only stayed for one night but really couldn’t fault it at all.

Everything was very good except the bathroom had a drain small which was not good.

We stayed as a family at The Alverton in Truro and overall had a good experience. The location is excellent and our suite had plenty of space. Staff were attentive and breakfast was a real highlight – all cooked to order rather than buffet style. The Grade II listed building has great character, though ventilation could be better – after a shower the walls were dripping wet. The main let-down was housekeeping, which felt light touch: the bathroom wasn’t mopped or vacuumed, and the tissue box stayed empty for two days until we left a note. A charming hotel in a great spot with friendly staff, but some improvements in housekeeping and room maintenance would make a big difference.

For a hotel climbing to be the best in Truro our weekend stay was very disappointing. That said many of the service staff were delightful. we had 2 issues others should be aware of: Firstly, unless a guest has booked in for supper the hotel will not cater provide dinner. It required some forceful negotiation to make the hotel provide supper. We agreed to being "squeezed in" at 1800 - only to be served 45 minutes later!! Secondly the room we stayed in was not cleaned during our stay - the bed was made, new shampoo provided but the carpets were not vacuumed, towels refreshed and so on.

Just a one night city break as had this one on our bucket list. It was all OK although the décor could do with an update. Many broken panes of glass, corridors etc need a refresh. Large stain on the bedroom floor. Lovely building but have stayed at much better places in Cornwall. OK for the price but probably won't be rushing back

Whilst clean, modern and close to town there were a lot of areas needing attention to be considered a 4 star . The rooms were very small in the courtyard and dark. Bathroom no natural light and finished in dark colours so difficult to shave in. The table in bedroom only had a small 6 inch by 12 inch mirror to apply make up etc. there was no drawer space in either table or bedside units and the enormous wardrobe was filled with a fridge, iron and ironing board which could only we positioned across the doorway and between bedroom and bathroom. The breakfast was good although strange layout of menu. Staff were everywhere but no idea what to do. Lack of management . The public areas for guests were taken up by weddings etc so no quiet area to sit and read paper with a drink or coffee . The afternoon tea was fine but as we had not booked the manager had to ask if the chef could oblige. Finally we ordered a paper but it was not delivered as the reception did not make a note of the room number. All in all it was ok but not great by any stretch. We were swayed to stay there because of the rave reviews. Shall not use again.

This was a stay with mixed thoughts from us. The greeting on arrival was fine but mentioning the lift would have been handy. We carted our bags up and down the various flights of stairs to our room which was quite a way from reception. The room itself was clean and tidy. The bathroom was very nice and spacious by comparison to the room. We feel the bedroom layout could be done better. There was only one bedside table which left me either having to risk putting a drink I like to have by my bedside overnight on an armchair or on the floor which isn't ideal when you're trying to find it in the dark! The location of the wardrobe, which was too wide for the wall it was on, obscured the TV slightly from the one side of the bed. Plenty of tea, coffee and shortbread were provided but nowhere easy to plug the kettle in. The USB port on one of the double sockets wasn't working correctly either. Our first breakfast was run by a tall slender gentleman and his tall slander female assistant. We felt almost afraid to ask for anything. They were very curt but very efficient. The next day we had a much more welcoming team although their efficiency was poor. We were brought our first course, ate it, then had our second course brought but empty plates were left on the table. Our last course arrived and again all empty plates were left on the table. We had to put them on the next table so we had room to move. My mum was a waitress and she always said you never go empty handed. This lot did!

Had problems sleeping. Room far too hot despite no heating on. After first night asked for lighter bedding and more comfortable pillows. These were provided willingly and improved matters but did not solve the problem.

The garden view room was a delight for our multiple night stay. The staff took care of all our needs. Any meal we had at the restaurant or bar was excellent.

Nice room . Needed air con as stayed in summer and was very hot .

Stunning building and grounds however, my stay was ruined by the unrelenting noise which included: A foul mouthed chef/kitchen staff I could hear clearly through the bathroom window. Bottles being disposed of, the clinking of crockery, the hum of the machines, stairwell light beaming from behind the curtains and the rattling of trolleys through the service area. A real shame!

Room was incredibly hot

Beautiful hotel-Rooms were very cleanand staff was very friendly. There is no air conditioning or elevators-did not present much of a problem for us. One evening was very warm and a luttle uncomfortable in the room-each room does have a fan. Bathrooms are very nice-one thing the hotel may consider is to have a grab bar along the back wall of the tub/shower-the tub is quite high and there is nothing to hold onto when getting out-could easily see one slipping and falling. Breakfast staff were very friendly but service in the restaurant was a little slow-maybe short staffed. Food was good. Hotel situated close by to many restaurants in the area. Would definitely stay here again!

This is a beautiful, historic hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable. The staff could not be more friendly or helpful. Great food! My only complaint was there are no in-room safes.

Room was nice, overlooking the garden. Reception team weren't that friendly but the restaurant/bar staff were great. Room next door were having an almighty slanging match, not the hotels issue as it was after a wedding in the hotel that day.

Even 2 comfortable chairs, that hardly ever happens in a hotel room, there’s normally just 1. Reception staff helpful and polite. Breakfast was excellent, varied choice and plentiful portions.

Very poor experience. Room was next to the kitchen extractor fans, and so hot that windows and fans had to be on permanently throughout the night. At breakfast, I had to repeatedly ask for everything, from a cup of coffee, to the ordering of my breakfast, to chasing up on this after it took an age to arrive. I was there for work booked breakfast for 0730, but it took a full hour to complete the painful exercise. I told reception staff about my experience on checkout (as I was asked) but only got a relatively insincere ‘I’m sorry to hear that’ with no real concern shown about my experience. Simply not a decent proposition with other hotels in the area, notably Falmouth.

The staff were very helpful and welcoming and went above and beyond. The hotel was very smart and clean. We had a very quiet room at the rear of the hotel and the room had everything you would need. The location is perfect, only a 10 minute walk to the city centre. Plent of parking available at the hotel and the beaches were only 20 minute drive away. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We would definitely visit again.

Room was great, evening food needs options at 5pm, more range on main meals in restaurant would be good. Breakfast service was appalling, multiple tables asking for drinks and food as to where it was. I waited 8 mins to be asked what drink i would like and then a further 22 mins for anything to arrive

It was one of the best places I have stayed in a long time. The service is amazing.

We've stayed in the Alverton a number of times before, but not when there was a function (wedding) going on. We went for a relaxing couple of days and found ourselves experiencing the complete opposite. Crowded bar area, limited slots at breakfast, noisy function guests hoofing through the main hotel, kids running up and down the corridors until 2am, drunk function guests (presumably also staying in the main hotel) at full volume (shouting, laughing, banging doors) until the early hours. Never again. Lesson learned. We generally travel out of season to avoid the crowds and unruly behaviour, so a word to the wise if you do the same - avoid function dates. Nobody told us in advance there was going to be a wedding. When we checked out and told the receptionist that we'd had a terrible stay in response to her question, we got "I'm sorry to hear that", with complete lack of sincerity or concern. Another surprise, given our previous experience of the Alverton. There was a supervisor on reception, who overheard the conversation and assured us that we would be contacted by the Guest Relations Manager. Alas nothing. Very poor indeed. Charging premium rates demands premium service, and The Alverton has fallen well short on this occasion. I feel like my stay as a 'regular' guest was completely compromised due to the hotel chasing function revenues. The lack of follow up is also very disappointing. A great shame. Normally such a lovely hotel. Changes required, please Alverton.

Everyone was friendly, helpful and professional. Our room (12) was warm and comfortable. The bathroom was modern, with large shower and good quality towels. The room was well-stocked with local Cornish teas and coffees, and with extra touches.

The service from all staff at the Alverton is always superb

Impressive building as a converted convent. Was quite away from the train station, and a bit of a walk from the city centre. Like many English hotels, the plumbing was marginal.

We had a lovely weekend staying at the Alverton. Staff were polite, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The shower in our room was amazing! Perfect location as it was only a ten minute walk to the city centre and shops. We would definitely stay again.

Tranquility of location within the city area

It was a delightful stay and very handy for town.

My second stay because I love the place. Clean, tranquil, beautiful gardens and close to the centre of Truro.

Another excellent stay. We were in room 42 which is perfect for us as its on the ground floor. The staff are fantastic as always and the breakfast is delicious. Will definitely be going back.

Overall good quality. The room was a bit on the crampt side. The one big disappointment was not expected. We found that the food not to the standard we expected. Soup very bland, uncooked mushroom, undercooked sausage.

The buildings were very impressive and the rooms decorated to a high standard. Customer service was excellent with really attentive staff. We had some minor issues with our room such as the bath plug not working if you wanted a bath and the drain blocked meaning you stood in water when you had a shower which they were going to fix when we reported it on check out. The room had a lovely big mirror but no plug near it if you wanted to use a hairdryer to do your hair. Breakfast had a very good choice although the poor quality of some of the items like the orange juice and sausages did slightly let it down.
