The Horse and Hound is located in a quiet area of the borderlands, yet has access to a good road net hat puts you in the center of many great places to visit. The place is quaint and comfortable, with the dining area being bright and cheerful, and the pub (the oldest part of the building) and is the village place to go (the locals are very friendly). The staff are cheerful and helpful, and the food is very good. The rooms are a decent size, with on suite bathrooms, and the beds are comfortable. We loved it.

We really y enjoyed our obey night stopover on the way home from a great holiday in Shetland. The room was very comfortable (would have preferred a double but only twin available when we booked). Very nice bar & the food in the restaurant was oustanding both dinner & breakfast. Slightly odd that the pub was virtually empty on a Friday night but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It was a first for us to stay in a country inn that is also dog friendly. The atmosphere is wonderful and the people who work there are lovely. The property is clean and the bedroom we stayed in is a decent size. The food is delicious and hearty. We will definitely be visiting again.

The older couple who ran the pub were pretty ignorant and quite rude as in breaking up ice right in front of my partners face whilst at the bar and then shrugging shoulders when asked what shots do u serve, our room was number 9 and the corridor leading up to the room stunk of dogs, the dogs barked most of the night and early morning, nice little pub but dogs have to go and bar staff need to be a bit more welcoming

The Horse and Hound is a good example of a British country inn. Very welcoming and friendly staff and customers. Lively bar area that was enjoyable. We had a very good evening meal and breakfast. Our bedroom was clean and fairly comfortable. There was not a lot of space to hang clothes or put into drawers. It was perfectly adquate for our 2 night stay, but not sure if it would have been as good for a longer stay.

The room was basic but spotlessly clean. Unfortunately the cold tap did not work however there was bottled water in the room, there was no soap provided and only one toilet roll. The towels and bedding were so soft and clean and the beds very comfortable. Fabulous meal in the restaurant and such attentive and friendly staff.

Comfortable, clean room has kettle, hairdryer, tv, lamps etc .Nice bathroom with shower. Only stayed one night and went out to see daughter so didn't have any food but it looked good!!! Staff very nice and friendly.

Bedrooms needed to be cleaned,stairs and carpets need deep cleaned cobwebs over to and curtains rails not happy put the towels out for fresh ones and same ones put back not given clean ones ,would l stop there again sorry but a big fat NO

Room was bright and clean. The shower cubicle has mouldy seals which is off putting. The shower was not very warm or the water pressured enough. The area was quiet and restful. The beds were somewhat hard and creaky but others might say comfortable, we can only say how we found them. It was a one night stay, food excellent as in evening meals, we didnt stay for breakfast as too full.

Warm welcome upon arrival, room was clean, spacious and beds comfortable. Was a little too hot & couldn't find way to turn down radiators, but opened the window solved that. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but had a drink and the food looked very tasty.

Room was above dining area and could hear everyone talking, room was cold (radiator was at door entrance, not really in the room), breakfast was offered between 8 and 10 am but when we stated a time we were basically told breakfast was at 8am), hot water took ages to heat up. We were in room 1, it was ok but there was no wardrobe. It would be ok if you were only staying one or two nights. Breakfast was £10 for the small one. The shower was ok and the bed comfortable.

Room was clean and comfortable but tea making facilities left a lot to be desired. Bathroom could have had more hooks and shelves as clothes had to go on floor. First two evening meals were good but the last was bad. My friend's meal made her retch and she couldn't continue eating, which they didn't seem to care about, and the waitress rushed us out. Very bad attitude from staff on last day.

The room was nice and the amenities fine, but it wasn't exactly the warmest of welcomes when we checked in -- and then we didn't get to properly check out because the whole hotel was locked up, and the owners had departed, so we had to unlock the outside door to get in and drop the key in a key box!

I wanted a quiet place away from towns and citys this Inn was just what i required base camp to explore the local areas staff very friendly food excellent definitely would stay again i had my car for transport i wouldn't recommend this lovely Inn without you having some mode of transport no local shop either so get your supplies before staying over😁
I wanted a quiet place away from towns and citys this Inn was just what i required base camp to explore the local areas staff very friendly food excellent definitely would stay again i had my car for transport i wouldn't recommend this lovely Inn without you having some mode of transport no local shop either so get your supplies before staying over😁

We had originally booked a hotel in Hawick town centre but that was cancelled at short notice. Expedia organised this hotel for us and we were glad they did. We were going to a wedding at Branxholm so were at bit concerned that the H&H was a bit out of the way. It didn't end up being an issue and having spoken to other guests at the wedding who had booked stays in the town centre they described their accommodation variously from awful to absolute nightmare. So for anyone attending a wedding at Branxholm you should consider staying here if you need a room. Bonchester Bridge is a really nice quiet village also.

The Horse and Hound is located in a quiet area of the borderlands, yet has access to a good road net hat puts you in the center of many great places to visit. The place is quaint and comfortable, with the dining area being bright and cheerful, and the pub (the oldest part of the building) and is the village place to go (the locals are very friendly). The staff are cheerful and helpful, and the food is very good. The rooms are a decent size, with on suite bathrooms, and the beds are comfortable. We loved it.

The staff were friendly and polite, and helped The restaurant food was also excellent, well presented and very tasty, most enjoyable part of our stay The rooms are at best a 2*& hardly a 3*, & how the property is rated 8.4 out of 10 on Expedia is beyond us. To top every thing off the fire alarm went off in the early hours, us and one other of the guests made our way out only to return, as the alarm was switched off and no one sort to check how the guests were! The shower was difficult to turn on and off & It leaked through on to the floor during the night The fire door separating the public bar areas and the accommodation rooms, constantly banged until the late evening hours, hardly ideal This property was not only overrated but also over priced for the poor accommodation that it is. Do not stay, go somewhere else. But the food in the restaurant is excellent.

We really y enjoyed our obey night stopover on the way home from a great holiday in Shetland. The room was very comfortable (would have preferred a double but only twin available when we booked). Very nice bar & the food in the restaurant was oustanding both dinner & breakfast. Slightly odd that the pub was virtually empty on a Friday night but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A very pleasant stay in a beautiful area. The evening meal quality was adequate. I was disappointed that for accommodation at this price level did not include breakfast. I obviously missed the small print!

Room was clean and comfortable but tea making facilities left a lot to be desired. Bathroom could have had more hooks and shelves as clothes had to go on floor. First two evening meals were good but the last was bad. My friend's meal made her retch and she couldn't continue eating, which they didn't seem to care about, and the waitress rushed us out. Very bad attitude from staff on last day.

We booked based upon previous reviews but were disappointed. The corridors smelt heavily of dog and the room itself was very basic and certainly needed an upgrade and general attention. We were only staying one night but still left feeling it was certainly not value for money

Remote location. Needs some TLC. Hall ways very smelly(doggy smell) carpets dirty. Room could have done with a good clean. Shower had a lot of black mold around the bottom had to clean the black mold of shower head before I could use it. No clothes hanging space. Glad it was only one night I had to stay. Poor wifi. Food was OK and well priced.
