Stayed 2 nights

⭐ 1 star — Disappointing stay after years of returning I have been a regular guest at Wylie Court in Rotorua for years, staying three to four times a year with my staff when visiting for work. We have always enjoyed our stays, but this visit was a real disappointment. We booked two rooms, and one had a smoke alarm beeping because of a flat battery. I called the after-hours number around 7pm, as reception was closed. I was told there were no replacement batteries available, staff had left for the night, and it would have to wait until the next day. When we returned after 5pm the following day, the issue still hadn’t been fixed. To make matters worse, housekeeping had been through and left our room door wide open. I followed up with reception again and was told they had tried calling me for permission for maintenance to enter the room. I had received no calls from them. That explanation was also difficult to understand given that housekeeping had already entered the room that day. The issue was finally resolved later that evening, after another follow-up. A working smoke alarm is a basic safety essential, and guests should not have to chase this up repeatedly. Leaving our door wide open was also an unacceptable security concern. The property appears to be under new management, and the standard of service we experienced was well below what we had come to expect. After years of returning, this stay has left me questioning whether we will book again.
