Positive. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. The hotel had free parking which for a central hotel is quite rare so much appreciated. The pub itself was so busy town centre pub great atmosphere the food was very nice and plus if you’re staying though you get 10% off. The rooms were clean. The bedding was lovely and crisp and clean. The rooms are not very large but as we were only staying for one night this really didn’t affect us. The negatives. It is a central pub so there is noise coming from downstairs and outside this didn’t bother us, but I’m sure it would others. The building is old and therefore has old plumbing which creeks and clicks especially in the night time when the heating is going on and off this didn’t help for a sound sleep but as I said, we stayed one night. I would certainly recommend it was definitely worth the money and the breakfast was amazing. Just book knowing that you could be in for some noise and some old creaky plumbing.

What a lovely property. A lot of walking to get to room and there is no lift so if you have mobility issues it could be a problem. I am, so a bit tiring to say the least xx

I don't know what the website says about The George Inn, but I wasn't prepared for the number of steps to my room, 33 in total I think.OK for younger man but I'm in my mid eighties; a word of warning wouldn't go amiss. The room was clean and comfortable, the TV didn't work properly though and the plumbing was noisy. The staff were polite and helpful.

Friendly staff dog friendly can have your dog in the dinning room with you etc Didn’t hear a great deal of noise from downstairs in the pub once we we in our room But Saturday night the noise in the bar was was to much especially when you were trying to eat in dining room and talk with friends. Had to go out and sit in the beer garden to get away from the noise. Good location for what we wanted Easy to check in and out etc Nice size room

Lovely stay for the night . Staff were lovely . Room was lovely beds nice and comfy . Not overly noisy seeing as it was in the market square either . Free parking too .

It was not easy access, up and down levels to reach the room, carrying luggage. It was a convenient location for a party we were attending .

The George is very good value and in a great central spot in Selby. Big room but it is a little tired. Excellent breakfast each morning with lovely cold buffet and hot breakfast to order. The bed was extremely comfortable -one of the best mattresses we've slept on away from home. Our room was directly above the bar though and it is very, very noisy until the bar closes. I don't believe anybody could sleep in there without ear plugs. It was a struggle being in the room in the evening as you cannot quietly rest. All in all though we still think there are many positives and it is fabulous value. Also free parking which is a bonus!

Great property right next to the abbey (definitely worth a visit). Parking convenient once you find it. Included English breakfast very good. Room a tad small but nice. Excellent customer service overall.

Good old hotel. Nice pub and restaurant. Room was clean and comfortable with all amenities present. Beds and pillows are just right.

Ok for the price.bed was clean and comfortable apart from quilt cover wasnt soft.rustled every time i turned over.quiet room.no noise from outside,just corridor noise and bed moved when people walked by outside the room.shower was broken.stuck on hot,and could not change temperature.window frames had a lot of black mould,and hadnt even been attempted to remove for a long time.breakfast was decent but no orange juice,and no tomato on breaking on first morning.also heard people asking for yoghurt on that morning but they were told there was none left.

It was our first trip to Selby, we wanted to be close to The Doghouse Bar for a gig my daughter was performing; we dropped on with this place, it was not much more than a stones throw away. We knew upon arrival to park in The Griffin Pub car park which was easy to find, check in was simple and quick, although it would have been slightly better were reception not part of the actual bar; it was very busy, our bags were heavy and catching the attention of any free staff was a bit of a problem. We were checked in and given the “house rules” and so forth smoothly enough, although the poor girl had to repeat herself a few times to be heard over the Saturday afternoon vibe; finding our room was slightly irksome as there was signage for rooms 4-21 but there wasn’t any guide to tell you that some of those rooms were down a corridor labelled “fire exit”. The room itself was ok, no bells and whistles, basic but functional. The bathroom was a little tired, scuff marks, a wobbly toilet seat, just a bit unloved; we couldn’t get the fan in there to work either. The bed was ok, not sure if there was some sort of plastic somewhere on or in the bed, but I had to put a towel down over the bottom sheet to ease the sweating. I had to use cotton buds to get out all the dust from inside the tower fan provided. Food was amazing, staff were so helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable, it was like we were old friends. Pretty beer garden. There are a few clubs across the road, so maybe pack your earplugs!

The bathroom bin had not been emptied. The rest of the place was quite clean. Towels were white and fluffy. Loud heating system under my bedroom. Disco 4 doors away that wasa LOUD!!!! Dreadful noise until 02:30hrs. Manager got our meals wrong, as he didn;t write down the order. Food stops at 7.30 pm on a sunday, but we were told 8.30 pm. We ordered a pizza and were allowed to eat it, but made for an expensive eveing

Not sure how this hotel has such a high rating. The building and interior is in desperate need of upgrading. The room itself was sizeable and clean enough but lacked any friendliness or warmth, wood chip decoration?! The bathroom was small, the water temperature difficult to control. The internet worked for 2 minutes and that was it. We didn’t stay for the free breakfast to avoid further disappointment.

In shopping area. It was a weekday so nice and quiet. The room isn't posh but had all we needed and was clean and spacious. Breakfast was lovely served by lovely staff. Would definitely stay again

On a positive note the staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was freshly cooked and good quality, the bed comfortable and the bedding spotless. However the whole place inside and out, including the bedrooms and public areas, needs a massive refurbishment. The peeling paint on the front of the building is not a good first impression. Neither is the hole in the wall on the bedroom corridor. In my room, the television didn’t work, the fan was ineffective, the bedside cabinet stained and there was mould in the shower. Considering how much I paid, I expected more. My stay was definitely over priced and disappointing.

We had a great breakfast that was included in the price. We were very pleased with our stay and would definitely consider returning if we are in the area.

Great little stop over, clean comfortable rooms with plenty of tea, coffee etc bathrooms have complimentary toiletries. Massive full English breakfast in with the price of our booking, Our room could hear the bass from the local night club but that was reflected in the price it was half the price of other rooms to stay in the area, great value for money 👍

Right in the middle of Selby with plenty of options for dining out. Excellent breakfast. Clean, big room overlooking the Abbey. Staff were very pleasant and service was excellent.

Lovely spacious room with view of market square. En-suite with shower and bath. Comfortable bed and welcome pack for our dog, which was much appreciated. Everything in excellent working order. Warm and cosy, even on a cold November night. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast included. Would highly recommend.

Stayed in Selby as a base for train trips into York but liked it enough to spend both evenings in town. The George is conveniently located from train and town centre. Mixed room size and space. Three of us booked the same day and rate but one was in what felt like a suite with views of town square and minster while another felt like a broom cupboard overlooking the grotty backs of old buildings. Also, weekend nightlife noise could be heard on all sides until the early hours. Cooked breakfasts were good: made to order from a menu.

Once again the George Inn proved to be an excellent place to stay. As ever the staff were so friendly and helpful, allowing me to park my car before the actual check in time in their free parking area right outside the premises. A warm welcome was received when we did check in later on and our whole experience was absolutely wonderful. Selby is a lovely town, and with the George Inn being situated right in the centre next to the abbey, all shops, restaurants, cocktail bars, pubs etc are within easy walking distance and completely level, no steep climbs or steps at all. We have stayed here on five separate occasions, each one being a delightful experience from the moment we arrived. Thank you.

Our stay at the George Inn was overall very good. Staff greeted us with a warm welcome. The smoke alarm beeped (low battery) and this was taken care of immediately. Bed was very comfortable, very clean and shower was lovely and hot. Room in need of updating as decor was tired and basic but at under £60 a night for B&B its still really good. We loved our doggy welcome pack for our dog and he loved his treats! The pub is lively and loud but we did expect it being above it! The rooms were really warm, so we slept with the window open a little- so we were privy to chucking out time!! We did sleep ok though. Breakfast was a buffet style cereal and toast option (amazing bread guys!) With the menu options offering several full english options for meat and veggies alike. Great choice. Overall a good stay. You get what you pay for and we could not fault the welcome, food and overall experience. Many thanks

I am a regular customer and I stay at this pub about eight times a year, my check in was good but I did have to wait as there was only one staff member behind the bar. I had a nice clean, comfortable room, however I was disappointed with the breakfast service. This was because I had to wait about ten minutes for my order to be taken. I had previously arrived in the breakfast room and two other tables already had their orders taken. Four more guests arrived after me and their orders were taken first which I was unhappy about as I needed to get to work. I was then nearly served a Full English when I had ordered scrambled eggs on toast. The staff member did apologise then took my order to another table. There was a lack of organisation and the staff members customer service skills were lacking. I was not impressed by this however, my food was hot and well seasoned. I checked out shortly after this and was not asked about my stay.

Building is a bit run down but bedroom and bed was very comfortable indeed. Staff friendly, great breakfast too. Central location adjacent to Selby Abbey.

Extremely good value for money. I booked with my fiancée for a 2 night weekend trip to York. We found this hotel with free parking, a 5min walk to Selby station and a short 30min train to York. This saved us easily £100 a night as opposed to staying in York itself. As a base for a sightseeing weekend, this hotel was perfect. It is not a 5 star luxury hotel, but the exceptional value for money outweighed that for us. It's typical of rooms above a pub - basic but comfortable. Room was a great size with twin beds pushed into one, which always gives more space. All the facilities you would need and the staff were happy to help with any additionals. To also have breakfast included for the great price was astounding. Breakfast was your usual cooked array. Not much in the way of continental - some cereal and a small bowl of fruit but was a good bonus and suited us for our stay. Booked in for dinner on the first night as we arrived late from work. Food was such good value for money and portions were HUGE! Overall we were really happy with our stay and would definitely book to come back again if we ever visit York again. Although, Selby itself also looked like a lovely little town, with it's own abbey and a little market on the Saturday. We didn't have time to explore on this occasion but would schedule time in to do so on another visit.

Intitially, I felt the George and room were a bit shabby. That said, we made to feel very welcome, room was warm and comfy and breakfast was excellent. I would stay again.

Only there 2hrs and a fight broke out chairs were thrown people scared ..Food terrible steak was like shoe leather ..frozen vegatables n instant mash potatoes..breakfast was sausages over cooked rggs practical over cooked to the extent we never went for the 2nd morning breakfast .

We stayed here the night before going to York for our Christmas shopping…. We both thought how charming the George was and excellent value for money …. We had a light meal in the evening and then breakfast was included and was amazing great fuel for the busy day ahead x we will definitely be staying here again x
