Very friendly. Room was clean. No bother asking for any additional towels. Hospitality tray replenished. Pool warm .changing facilities at pool area excellent. Games room good. Plenty seating areas.

The staff are efficient and friendly enough. We did ask for some more things for the tea tray which never arrived but it was ok. The breakfast was ok. Lovely pool and jacuzzi which seems to be underused which is a shame. The lift only partially worked nut will be soon repaired. The hotel is a little tired

Lovely relaxing break. Food and service were excellent. Enjoyed the leisure centre although it has to be said that the pool area and changing rooms badly need upgrading. We would certainly consider a return visit.

Excellent from start to finish, every single member of staff was a credit to you. Lovely hotel, fantastic pool/Jacuzzi/sauna, great food and a lovely bar to sit and enjoy a few drinks. Booked this just to let us get to an early ferry easily but it genuinely added on a very valued and enjoyable night to our Holiday.

Lovely comfortable hotel with a large double including a little seating area. Booked a loch view room but disappointed by the expanse of concrete car/lorry park in between. Decor quite dated in the room but downstairs areas very nice. Helpful staff at reception and in the dining room - some training needed for new serving staff. Lovely big swimming pool, hot tub and sauna but spoilt by lack of instructions for sauna and pool definitely needs a clean.

Lovely traditional hotel…curling rink fab & great to sit in the alpine bar and watch it… Was last here 6 years sgo, games room still here which is great for families but could do with a wee upgrade , small soft-play area maybe handy and a few more family friendly games & change of seating & tables.. Rooms very spacious but lacking in modernisation same with bathroom's, very dated, however clean and tidy and nice view of loch ryan from our room… Breakfast was great, served to us in a lovely dining room..we helped ourselves to toast, juice and cereal…staff friendly and professional… Loads of carparking at front side and back The Ross bar is nicely decorated with plenty of tables and couches & chatty bar staff, actually loads of seating all around the hotel… Will be back and hopefully sooner than 6 years..need to try the pool next time…

Cleanest hotel I have stopped in. Excellent Breakfast and evening food. Found out that they have a Curling Sports Centre where the sport of Curling is done. Currently this team are the world champions. if you are looking for a Hotel in Stranraer, definitely go to the North West Castle Hotel

My family stayed here for 1 night only (2 children and 2 adults) Thankfully. On arrival the hotel looks quite grand. Ladies at reception were lovely. However, got to the room - very dated, dusty and wallpaper coming away from the walls. It gets worse. Following day we use the swimming pool. To find the place filthy. Dirt and mould in the changing rooms to the point I didnt want to walk bare foot. Mould all along the side of the swimming pool and foam matts beside swimming pool all mouldy and dirty. Swimming pool area looks like it’s used as a dumping ground, ladders, wheel barrows lying around and furniture dumped in no particular order. Absolutely appalling charging people good money to stay here. I paid £80/£90 for an overnight and can’t believe the state of the place. Only managed 1 photo

Smell of damp hits you the second you go through the front doors. The family suites was a weird corridor like room with 4 single beds in it. Water damaged hard wood furniture that looks like it was salvaged from a chairty shop. A bathroom that made sense in your grandmothers council house. And im general everything from the in room phones to the elevator look like they were "modern" in 1972

A beautifully maintained Victorian hotel (we stayed in the older part). Lovely lounge and pub. The room was very clean and spacious. The town has loads of restaurants and shops within walking distance of the hotel and views of the loch are spectacular. Highly recommended!

It was ok for a budget hotel. The room itself hadn't been used I am assuming for a few weeks as there was dust all over the furniture. You could actually swipe it and see it on your finger. It didn't bother me too much as all I wanted was a comfy bed and to crash in front of the TV. The batteries in the remote control for the TV were very long so was quite frustrating to change channels etc. The heat was on full when I arrived so the room was boiling. I turned it off and opened the window. It was raining quite heavily and all the water that collected on top of the window came straight into inside widow sill. The biggest plus as that this place is pet friendly. I have 2 little dogs and I wouldn't be without them. Only £10 per pet extra so I'm not complaining. The bed was nice and comfy and it was warm. All in all I'd stay here again. But I'll check the room is dusted beforehand.

I’d say this hotel was grand in its day. Front lobby & bar areas are nicely presented, characteristic & comfortable. Staff were pleasant enough (not overly friendly & not really engaging in conversation). We had a twin room which was outdated & scarely decorated making it not the most relaxing place - a bit grubby looking in places cause of the decor but was clean (discoloured grout, knocks & chips in paintwork, groovy/outdated decor, cheap-decor/materials). Walls were paper-thin & heard everything from the adjoining rooms & the hall way. Pool area was a bonus but again, really needs a decor uplift. Dining area is large area but could be more majestic with more decor - quite barren. Breakfast was not buffet and food was ok. Staff not attentive but pleasant enough. Don’t think I’d stay again

Stayed for one night on the way to N Ireland. The hotel is very dated, the room was however clean. Could hear other guests, conversations through the wall.

The room was clean, well appointed, spacious, comfortably warm and quiet. I was very happy with it. My evening dinner included vegetable soup and steak pie, both of which were tasty and nicely hot when served. Morning breakfast options were plentiful and hot food was tasty, well prepared and served promptly. Reception and dining room staff were considerate, polite and keen to assist as necessary. This hotel may be a little aged but but it is well appointed and has plenty of character and atmosphere that others of its generation and newer lack. In short, it ticked all my boxes.

We stayed in a room in the 'new' part. The bed was dreadful which resulted in little sleep. There was no sound proofing in the 'new' area as we constantly heard people talking in the corridor and the banging of doors until around 1am as well as a droning noise like an extractor running all night. The breakfast was fantastic, all freshly cooked to order which makes such a difference. The staff were all extremely polite and customer focused and we made use of the leisure facilities which were a bit tired and could do with some updating, especially the showers in the ladies changing area with poor water pressure. A drying machine would certainly benefit the area to take the moisture from swimming costumes too. Overall an okay stay.

I saw the hotel sign at the road to the complex of buildings but there is no hotel sign at the lobby entrance door … only 2 brass signs that say Rotary Club. So, I passed by the entrance twice and walked all around the buildings looking for an entrance. With service vehicles parked on the grounds, it didn’t look like a hotel but more like a service business. I had to triple check my GPS directions and walk around with my heavy bags before I finally went thru the Rotary Club entrance to ask for help. The lady inside informed me that I was, in fact, at the reception desk and that the Rotary Club only meets there. I said that the hotel should have a sign with its name near the entrance door to help guests find it and she said something like, “we’re usually pretty busy so people seem to find it just fine”. If were the owner, I’d put a nice looking sign at the entrance door. The room was spacious and looked out towards the sea and train station next to it. But, with no air conditioning, the room was stuffy and too warm … and the window had been restricted to allow it to be opened only 2 or 3 inches … and that wasn’t enough to cool the room or exchange it with outside air. I could sleep in that warm stale air so I called the front desk and asked for a fan. Luckily, they brought me a fan and I was able to get to sleep. The breakfast was very good and the staff serving it were excellent!

The hotel is a beautiful building with original features and a grand interior. My bedroom was very spacious, lovely views to the bay and the bes was very comfortable. Nice linen and a small sitting area to relax in.

Only issue we had was the rooms were very warm even with the radiator off and the window open. Didn’t seem to have air conditioning and the bathroom fan was not working.

Fairly dated rooms, but clean Biggest problem, like so many hotels, was the MATTRESS!! When i stay at a hotel, i expect to at least have a comfortable, clean bed This was a shocker. Especially when its over £100 a night The room had 2 single beds in it (i usually take a double if available) Every spring could be felt. The matrress was stained and had a finger sized hole in it. It also had July written on it. Presumably a replacement date, but what year? Thats when you know youre going to have a long night ahead The room had 2 separate rooms. One with a couch in it that was so out dated, it was scarey, while the other had the 2 single beds, with access to the bathroom The bathroom was fairly big and spotless. The shower worked well, so that was good The staff at the reception, bar area etc were great (I asked receptionist to organise an additional duvet for me to use as a topper for the bed, which she sorted out quickly) Maybe the management need to take a bit of time and check each room, test the beds, sit on the couches/sofas etc Upgrade where necessary

Stayed for one night. The meals we had in the restaurant were very disappointing to such an extent that we had to complain. The outcome was that we were not charged for the two meals. The room we had was spacious & comfortable if not some what dated. We will not be returning,

It was my first visit to Stranraer. The hotel was really convenient for the train station, and the town centre.The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very spacious and comfortable

Excellent break as normal.the staff makes the hotel.great to see Dorothy and Yvonne.always got a chat for you and so hospitable.Jill came down to see us.she has taken a different position in the hotel.its always good to see her smiling face.food was excellent as normal.had a few hours each day in the pool.even management had a wee gab with is.great to hear about Gail’s honour she works so hard.we will be back again this year.if anyone is looking for a small break to relax with good friendly staff then don’t go by here.a shout out to the young girl behind the bar in the curling rink.great service

Great hotel in the centre of Stranraer. Large room and bathroom very comfy bed and pillows. Excellent customer service from all staff. Good cooked breakfast. The only negative I would offer is that the bedroom was too hot.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and food was really good. The hotel has lots original and charming features and good on site parking too.

E mailed a few days in advance of stay to double check we were ok checking in after 10pm but never received a reply. Check in was ok, a nice man called Euan I think who was covering the bar and reception. Room clean but very dated. Curtains and carpets threadbare and very old fashioned furniture.

Granted this was only a three star hotel but the staff were dismissive and insulting in their response to a leak in room that was foul smelling.

Overall the stay was average. Sitting in the ross suite the chairs were very poor no cushioning. Not enough bar staff on especially as there was a wedding party Rooms need a bit of an upgrade. Never slept very well as room next door were having a party at 12 midnight.wwnt in for hours. Breakfast ,we had full breakfast it was very dry ,maybe adding beans would make it better. Poached eggs were hard asked for runny. Dinner at night was good.

Overnight Stay. Lovely Hotel with Delicious Breakfast. Outstanding customer Service! The stay responded immediately to any questions before we arrived. They have 24/7 front desk - big plus! The “castle” is a short taxi ride from the Stena ferry and across from the CityLink bus stop - very convenient! We arrived late at 10pm on the Stena Ferry from Ireland. Thanks to the hotel sharing the Taci number, I called ahead and scheduled a ride who was waiting for us when we got off the ferry. Alan greeted us at the hotel to give us our room key. He was so nice and brought us extra bath towels (which are quite large) and a portable fan, as my sons get very hot - even with the night air through the window.). Very kind of Alan. The beds were very comfortable. The shower had good pressure. We had paid for the breakfast - which I recommend highly. It was delicious. You could self serve with cereal, fruit, juice, yogurt, toast and yummy croissants - or order off the menu. Their black pudding and Haggis was delicious! It was our first time to try both. As we walked out to catch the CityLink bus across the street, we could see the water and small town. Such a beautiful small town. It was a lovely overnight stay. We wish we could have stayed longer.

There was no pool that I was aware. I complained directly by email to the hotel because of noise throughout the early hours of the morning, coming from the Morrisons supermarket next door.

Property was quiet, a bit of noise from, other guests but only to be expected. This is quite a large hotel but we visited in February so I cannot vouch for what it is like in summer. Location is good and is convenient for beach, supermarkets and public transport. The staff we dealt with were efficient and friendly. We would visit again.

The hotel staff are excellent and extremely helpful. The room was very spacious, comfortable and clean although a little old fashioned. The food was good with everyone commenting on the quality. Located near the shore front and all the shops, the disused jetty across from the hotel means it's not very picturesque on the doorstep but a 5 minute walk brings you to the parks and waterfront which is very nice. 10 minutes drive to the ferry terminal.

Ample parking on site. Nice clean comfy rooms. Handy for the ferry to Belfast.

Hotel was nice and the bed was comfy. Conveniently located close to the Cairnryan port, making it perfect for an overnight stay before a day trip in Scotland.

We had a lovely 3 night stay whilst attending the nearby Oyster Festival. The hotel is perfectly located close to the town. The staff were just fantastic. Very friendly and welcoming. As for the hotel itself, it is a little dated, but some refurbishment work was underway during our stay. It was very clean too. As for the breakfast, it was just wonderful. All freshly cooked and served piping hot.

Hotel is old but clean and renovation is taking place. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had an evening meal at the restaurant and although we read some poor reviews, the food we had was really nice and we have no complaint to make. Thank you North Castle & staff.

Hotel was lovely and clean with spacious areas and rooms. Two negatives unfortunately. The bed was very creaky and uncomfortable and the evening meal was only Luke warm which spoilt the stay.

We were very pleased to know that the hotel was in the middle of a total refubishment of the bedrooms . It is needed. Staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was disappointing - it flattered to deceive. Continental had poor choice and cooked was not great. Staff, tho, did their best and the breakfast room was beautifully laid out.

A lovely stay, nice big room overlooking the bay, if a bit dated. Food in restaurant was excellent but the portion size was way too big, my husband and I couldn’t finish our meal, so on the second night we only had starters.

Hotel does require upgrading and decorating. Breakfast poor - half rasher of bacon, 1 very small sausage,1 potato scone, half fried tomato and a boiled egg was my choice (although you could have the addition of haggis and black pudding) a very meager breakfast. Also Alpen stated on Menu was not offered, no alternative to butter on display - had to request alternative. Overall not a very good selection and set up.
