Great spot to spend the night & the food was good in the restaurant. Unfortunately, there was little to no WIFI, which was disappointing when you are travelling with children. Other than that, would recommend.

After a long day driving Route 1 from Reykjavik, we easily found the hotel just a short distance from the highway. Plenty of free parking. We had twin beds and our room was very clean. I was pleasantly surprised to see a vegetarian dinner offered on the restaurant menu. The breakfast was a buffet with many selections. Service was prompt and friendly. After a good night’s sleep and a hardy breakfast, we were ready to resume our trip.

This quaint guesthouse was delightful. Our room had views of the hills and waterfalls. The restaurant on site was tasty and servers and staff friendly. The hotel is filled with antiques, which makes walking around more interesting. They also have several coffee machines and these drinks are free. Complimentary reakfast buffet included scrambled eggs, hot and cold breakfast meats, homemade jams and cakes, beans in tomato sauce, and fresh homemade bread. There is an interesting whale skeleton in front of the restaurant outside. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Fantastic hotel, great bar, breakfast and food. Was pleasantly surprised how good it was given it was very rural and seemed in the middle of nowhere. Down the road from a lake that is phenomenal. Staff were great, food was great, free coffee, free parking, nice comfortable beds and big rooms. Highly recommend.

This place was absolutely wonderful. It’s only 28 min from jokulsarlon. We booked last minute since the closed route 1 to skaftafell. The restaurant was fantastic and they had local beer. Breakfast in the morning was very good. The rooms were large and the water was actually hot in the shower. Overall the best place we stayed.

This is a functional hotel for couples for an overnight stay enroute to East Iceland on route 1. Breakfast was quite adequate and 24x7 freshly brewed coffee, tea and hot water is a great option for tired tourists needing it without using the processed packets that is common in most hotels. We were in Iceland for ten days and, by far, this was our favorite place to stay. The staff are the most wonderful people - everyone was so friendly and helpful. We loved our spacious, clean room. The meal we had at the restaurant was our favorite meal of the ten days. DO NOT drive to a restaurant; do yourself a favor and eat at Hotel Smyrlabjorg. When we return to Iceland, we will be looking to stay here again. Don't pass up an opportunity to experience this place.

When I checked in, I was told that there was no WiFi service in the rooms. If you want to use WiFi, you'd have to work in the lobby. However, I was able to get WiFi service in my room with no problem. So, YMMV depending on the room you get.

Our room was huge and very comfortable, except we couldn't turn down the heating, so had to sleep with a window open. Breakfast was fabulous and we felt this hotel was great value for the price. Would definitely recommend.

Quirky large hotel full of Icelandic memorabilia in the common areas. Good place to break the journey across southern Iceland. Comfortable room. Annoying that wifi is so bad (I had some work to do & had to give up). Good breakfast was included which was very welcome.

The people that work here were unfriendly from the moment we checked in. And there were almost no guests here in 160+ rooms but they gave us one of the worst rooms with no view and very far from parking and the restaurant. The worst was at breakfast when everything was stone cold. When I made up some bread with one of the cold eggs to eat later since it was too unappetizing to eat then, an employee informed us that they were going to charge us we would have to pay $16 to take it with us. I said no thanks and left the bread on the table. As we were leaving the hotel, an employee came out and shouted at us that we owed them money for a sandwich. I told here I left it and she said “you still have to pay.” We got in the car and left. This thankfully, is not how Icelanders have treated us elsewhere. it is a wonder anyone would ever stay at this property, though.

Older property but big rooms - very nice staff- remote location and so was nice to have a quiet place to land for the night- plus the artic adventure iceberg/kayaking trip met at this hotel- so this was convienient for once we finished that!

Extremely nice hotel. Best breakfast I had in Iceland. The views are amazing, and the hotel very well maintained. The decoration is very authentic to the Icelandic style. Also very good price and great location to visit the Diamond Beach and glaciers.

Breakfast buffet is the Best!!!!! Grandma’s unique pancakes were delicious! Hotel is full of history of the family. I enjoyed the family tree in dining room. All the precious family heirlooms thru out the hotel were fun to look at. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
