Service poor overall. Check in and bill payment on check out very poor. Studios fine. New one bed lovely Food quality ok. Restaurant a bit disorganised albeit with well meaning staff. Spa staff super helpful but treatments disappointing with the exception of two of the 5 treatments had. Rather expensive treatments too. Beach a bottom of hill has locals racing motor bikes and doing donuts I. Cars. Not resort’s fault but beach not being relaxing means needed to avoid it and consciously booked resort as over beach. Overall a real shame. It has the makings of somewhere special but isn’t there so cancelled my next two bookings.

Great overall stay in a villa with spectacular views. Only down side is access is only by golf buggy. If you have a remote villa and early departure, make sure you take any suit cases the night before to your car. As our booked cart did not show up. Not a great end to otherwise fantastic stay.

Loved the Spa and outdoor baths. View was amazing. Clean tidy and all very new. Has everything we needed. Could get better pillows for a good nights rest.

We stayed at Castaways once before and had an excellent stay. That was the reason we chose to take our parents visiting from overseas there. Chalet 18 we stayed in was old, didn’t think it was worth the $$ we paid. The windows hadn't been cleaned, the carpet was old, stained, flat and damp, the aluminium windows were pealing off. It was very basic compared to the chalet we stayed before which was a shame. The food and drinks were decent but the fruit flies in the restaurant seemed to bother everyone. Shame the stone cooked steak was taken off the menu. The spa was amazing. In general the staff were very friendly and helpful. Just the one thing that seemed consistent from our last time.

Rummet var fantastiskt och utsikten likaså. Ligger dock väldigt avlägset och bor man i nån av villorna är man utelämnad till skjuts med golfbil. Skjutsen går dock enbart till parkeringen och inte till restaurangen, vilket gör att en middag men vin för båda är uteslutet. Restaurangupplevelsen lämnar dock en del att önska varvid en bokning av hela villan rekommenderas samt att laga middag där.

A bit of difficulty navigating to and from site. Reception staff was preoccupied with text messages to notice our presence. Check-in delayed by an hour and a half because room not serviced. Free non-alcoholic drink voucher offered while we waited down at the restaurant. Restaurant staff wonderful evening and at breakfast. Staff driving us to and from our room, car park and restaurant were super friendly. These staff were most apologetic about some of the reception issues we had both at check in and not being able ring for a buggy to take us to breakfast. Accommodation was fabulous. It was high up the hill and our car was parked even further up the hill so had to schedule staff to transport us around the property. Breathtaking views. Very spacious with separate lounge, dining kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom and cloth washing machine & dryer in passage behind cupboard doors. Lots of cupboard solace. Kitchen well equipped for cooking nd preparing meals. A very relaxing stay, just what we needed after a hectic two weeks in New Zealand. Meals at the Restaurant both day and night were delicious.

Only other issue I had was asking to cancel or move 2 days (over a month and a half before the trip) to a sister property, they said they were fully booked so I would have to cancel the entire stay and try to rebook again for the new dates I wanted. I even offered to stay at a sister property in areas where excursions that had been booked and were several hours away.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at castaways. Booked a 1 bedroom villa which had great views. You do need to transfer from the carpark to the room in a buggy, and also need to drive to the restaurant. The food and service at the restaurant was very good, and buffet breakfast had lots of options. Definitely recommend

Castaways does not deserve its 5 stars. It feels more like a standard motel with large rooms and a nice view. The rooms were worn out, the TV lifting system which avoided the TV from blocking the view was broken, both toilets were loose from the floor, one lamp was broken, the windows were very dirty hiding the view that the TV didn’t spoil. The staff in the resection did not show any interest in providing service and just asked us to check with Chat GPT when we asked about some lokal recommendations. The breakfast was also disappointing and had instant powder coffee!

A real hidden gem outside of Auckland, felt like an island on its own and the name Castaways really live up to its name with amazing views. The Villa was exceptional clean and the service from reception to everyone was fantastic.

This is one of the best resort with spectacular views. I am glad we stayed over here for our Valentine's day. Beautiful ocean view from top of the hill, we got magnificent sun set. Very few negatives, there was a glass bottle with cigarette butts in it in the gallery, the water kettle was rusted. Other than this we loved this property. Highly recommend.

All the staff we interacted with were lovely. The chalet we stayed in was spacious and had everything you could need but the rooms were a little tired if that is something that matters to you. The views are truly spectacular. We will definitely be back.

More than a view is needed for a pleasant stay. To classify the property as a resort is a stretch. Calling and waiting for a golf buggy to take you everywhere, including to your car is ridiculous. Also, the villas are not properly sound proofed to rent to two different sets of guests. Worst of all, the cleaning services were completely unreliable. We were even told we had to be in the villa when cleaners came. We didn’t travel 12,000km to sit in a room waiting for the cleaners to come! As beautiful as the view is, we can’t recommend the Castaways Resort for more than a one night stay.

Great two bedroom suite with two bathrooms attached however shower was old and couldn’t adjust or remove head piece. Birds nesting in wall and made noises in the night and chirping early in the morning.

Absolutely MAJESTIC!!! We stayed in a 1 bedroom Villa and that itself was a vacation. The view was absolutely stunning. Waking up and having coffee on the huge balcony was like out of a dream. The service was phenomenal, the communication was phenomenal and might I say this price was phenomenal! My wife and I highly recommend!

Beautiful location. Came back for our anniversary (we got married here 8 years ago). Only downfall was we were in a 1 bedroom unit joined to a villa, the bedroom had no kitchen facilities, no coffee and no cutlery other than teaspoons. But we would stay here again and staff were very accommodating

Nice view and close to the beach. The receptionist is not friendly. I understand it was busiest time during the christmas and new year but its not a excuse. I paid $20 for the late check out, but the cleaner still asked us to leave at 10?? The Spa- I booked a time slot online 2 days before staying. 10 min Before entering the spa I checked with reception. The receptionist told me just go to the spa. When I arrived the spa, they still asked me to wait another 15mins. The staff were unprofessional. Breakfast service very slow.

There was no daily housekeeping service, no fresh towels, no trash removal, nothing. For the price of the stay, that’s simply unacceptable. We requested towels and they were never delivered. The room itself was also very disappointing. There was no dresser or usable storage, which made it difficult to unpack, and the balcony had no furniture, so it was basically unusable. To make matters worse, I requested a call from the general manager twice, and never received any kind of response. The lack of communication and customer service was extremely frustrating. Castaways does not deserve its 5 stars. It feels more like a standard motel with large rooms and a nice view. The rooms were worn out, the TV lifting system which avoided the TV from blocking the view was broken, both toilets were loose from the floor, one lamp was broken, the windows were very dirty hiding the view that the TV didn’t spoil. The staff in the resection did not show any interest in providing service and just asked us to check with Chat GPT when we asked about some lokal recommendations. The breakfast was also disappointing and had instant powder coffee!

A bit of difficulty navigating to and from site. Reception staff was preoccupied with text messages to notice our presence. Check-in delayed by an hour and a half because room not serviced. Free non-alcoholic drink voucher offered while we waited down at the restaurant. Restaurant staff wonderful evening and at breakfast. Staff driving us to and from our room, car park and restaurant were super friendly. These staff were most apologetic about some of the reception issues we had both at check in and not being able ring for a buggy to take us to breakfast. Accommodation was fabulous. It was high up the hill and our car was parked even further up the hill so had to schedule staff to transport us around the property. Breathtaking views. Very spacious with separate lounge, dining kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom and cloth washing machine & dryer in passage behind cupboard doors. Lots of cupboard solace. Castaways Resort was wonderful. The chalet was clean, comfortable, and had a wonderful view of the sea. The restaurant was good and had a great variety for breakfast. It is out of the way, but if you’re looking for someplace remote and quiet, this place is excellent.

Rummet var fantastiskt och utsikten likaså. Ligger dock väldigt avlägset och bor man i nån av villorna är man utelämnad till skjuts med golfbil. Skjutsen går dock enbart till parkeringen och inte till restaurangen, vilket gör att en middag men vin för båda är uteslutet. Restaurangupplevelsen lämnar dock en del att önska varvid en bokning av hela villan rekommenderas samt att laga middag där.

When we arrived, our room had been damaged by a rock hitting the window and therefore were moved to a safer room immediately. When we were settled, the view was amazing, and all we wanted to do was spend time watching the ocean. If you are to stay here and watch the sunset, grab some cheese and a bottle of wine- nothing was more perfect. Everything about this place was perfect. Clean, friendly staff, delicious food, and great location.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at castaways. Booked a 1 bedroom villa which had great views. You do need to transfer from the carpark to the room in a buggy, and also need to drive to the restaurant. The food and service at the restaurant was very good, and buffet breakfast had lots of options. Definitely recommend

Amazing property. We stayed in the two bedroom, 2 bathroom unit with full kitchen and family room and were very comfortable. The accommodations were modern and clean. We really appreciated the washer and dryer in the unit. The view of Karioitahi beach was incredible. We really enjoyed our two night stay and would definitely return if back in Auckland area.
