Historic building, so low ceilings and sloping floors which adds to the character. Good breakfast both hot and cold. No parking on-site, but on-street parking nearby. TV in room not very good. Only ever given sparkling water in room, had to go and swap it out for still at the bar every evening

Situated in a lovely Town centre, quirky black and white pub with typical unique low roofs, undulating floor and very old sections. The breakfast was great, the bedroom was cosy & warm with a comfortable bed. Reasonable price compared to others around. No parking on site but secure car park nearby with relatively cheap cost for overnight parking using a parking App. Ideal commute distance for Cheltenham and surrounding area. Would recommend

The staff were really friendly. Breakfast vegan options were excellent. The inn was interesting and in surprising good shape for its age. Parking over the street was easy - using the Ringo app you could add parking time from your room before the 8am starting time. Recommended!

I felt welcome at the hotel from the word go. I arrived on late afternoon Sunday anf there was some good live music on in the courtyard. The hotel doesn't do a Sunday evening meal but I was signposted to good local alternatives. Breakfast in the old oak dining room was great. Building dates back to 1596 with assocations to the Civil War. Landlady Helen and rest of staff very kind and helpful. Great experience as a solo female traveller

Are warm and friendly welcome on arrival. Our room was large and had all the comforts we needed good selection of tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits large bed lovely clean and soft towels. It’s a 15th century building with flipping floors low ceilings etc but that just added to the charm. We had a drink in the bar and it was clearly a pub used by the locals who made us feel welcome. We did dine in the restaurant on our first night and yet again the food and service was excellent. Breakfast the following morning was very good lots of choices and all arrived piping hot and with more friendly smiles. Overall a great choice would definitely stay again

Stayed in 'Massey' room, 2 single beds. The reader must remember that this Hotel is 375 yrs old and make allowances for that. Low ceiling throughout the room, I am 6ft tall and had to stoop. Floor is sloping so both beds lean to the left!! Shower was awkward due to headroom. Other than these observations the room is fine, but best suited to someone under 5' 6" Fantastic dining room with original dark oak paneling and fireplace. Large Bar. Large public car park 200yds away allowing overnight stays free 6pm to 8am. Good cooked breakfast. Not a good stay for those with mobility problems. Would stay here again but would ask for a higher room!!

A good stay at an atmospheric late 16c traditional English Inn . Rooms comfortable with good modern en suite . Log fires in the bar and a carved wood panelled dining room. The beer ,the food (traditional pub fayre)and service was wonderful. The breakfast was great with ample choice of cooked and continental on offer. Helen the manageress was welcoming and most efficient . She managed the property very well indeed. We couldn’t hope for more and would definitely stay again .

The Inn is an ancient monument, sadly in need of refurbishment. Clearly the cleaner had made a tremendous effort to optimise the cleanliness in the room... the carpets are well past their sell-by date, wall-paper peeling, lino lifting, holes in plaster and a somewhat nasty smell in the reception area. Having said that the kitchen looked clean and so I ate breakfast which was very nice. What tipped the balance was the lumpy bed. It would also have been nice to know that it is a thumping live music venue, as I wouldn't have booked it had I known.

Photos are not of the double rooms. The room was tired, holes in the curtains and mildew in the shower. The en suite was definitely not up to standard. I’d recommend a superior room as the double room was not worth the money

Lovely clean room. I had arranged previously for my booking to be changed from a double to a twin room, and this had been with no problem at all. The building is fascinating, being 500 years old. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful, and the breakfasts were excellent. We stayed there over Christmas, and a particularly thoughtful touch was the Christmas stocking left outside the room door for us!

This is a fabulous old coaching inn that sadly deteriorates year by year as a promised refurbishment doesn’t happen. I had a room in the old part which was fine but the bathroom needed urgent attention.

I was sadly very disappointed, the hotel is tatting and needs some basic cleaning and painting. Positives: the bed was comfortable, it was quiet and the shower was a good pressure and hot. Negatives: the dust on the heater in the room was thick, mould in the bathroom with peeling paint, services at breakfast was awful meaning I missed out on a cooked breakfast as I was ignored for over 20mins and was required to leave for my work meeting. I would have raised these issues but reception was unmanned when I left.

Incredible, ancient building with wonky floors and head-cracking beams and an incredible oak clad dining room in this olde royalist town. Full of character. Friendly and helpful staff and a great bath. My only criticism would be the single bed l was in was very small and l didn’t sleep much as l was scared of falling out.

Stayed for one night in a spotlessly clean modern bedroom in this very old hotel. The only things that let it down were lack of private parking, a very small en-suite and no hand soap.

The room was very clean,but it was rather cold as it had only a convector heater-Not enough warmth and heat,hence the condensation on the windows. Shower and extactor Fan were excellent. The food,drink and the service were very good.

Great for overnight stay for visiting Malvern, show and Surrounding area. We had a room in the old building which was quaint but we have stayed before and I prefer the newer refurbished external building rooms which have a higher specification. But if you’re looking for quaint old buildings with tons of history this is the place to stay. Staff were lovely and very accommodating as we were late arriving which wasn’t a problem. Breakfast was lovely too! With nice tea, coffee, fruit, cereals, toast, eggs , salmon and full English done to order perfectly. Thanks for a great stay.

We had a room in the old building which was quaint but we have stayed before and I prefer the newer refurbished external building rooms which have a higher specification. A lovely old property although I wouldn’t call it 4 star as there are bits and pieces around the room that need attending to such as old carpet, peeling lino on the bathroom floor and a shower head that misses your body in the shower and hits the shower wall despite trying to adjust it. Traffic could be noisy outside the window and as there are traffic lights there, if someone is playing loud music or has a barking dog (which was he case for us) it’s quite intrusive while that car is waiting for quite some time at the lights. A room at the back may be better. Regardless, we would stay again due to price, friendly & helpful staff and a decent breakfast.

UNFORTUNATELY we had the room at the rear of the Inn .overlooking the Beer Garden We understand with the Hot evening s people came out to enjoy. However the noise was still going on till 12.20pm .so we could not get any sleep

very friendly staff. the bedroom was clean and comfortable. the breakfast in the morning had many choices and my husband decided on eggs on toast and i had the eggs royale which we both enjoyed. some one had removed the tv control from the bedroom but reception replaced it but it still did not work but we were able to change channels on the tv itself. there was a mirror in the bathroom but none in the bedroom so it was difficult to use the hair dryer to see how to style your hair. these were minor points but will definitely book in the hotel again.
very friendly staff. the bedroom was clean and comfortable. the breakfast in the morning had many choices and my husband decided on eggs on toast and i had the eggs royale which we both enjoyed. some one had removed the tv control from the bedroom but reception replaced it but it still did not work but we were able to change channels on the tv itself. there was a mirror in the bathroom but none in the bedroom so it was difficult to use the hair dryer to see how to style your hair. these were minor points but will definitely book in the hotel again.

Fantastic stay as always. Tom who booked is in so helpful and friendly. Our room super comfy and spotlessly clean. Breakfast this morning was so tasty, and Jess who was looking after us was lovely. The Talbot has a wonderful team of staff , nothing is too much trouble. . Sat and had a drink at the bar everyone by us so friendly . Atmosphere in the Talbot is relaxing and charming.

Lovely clean room. I had arranged previously for my booking to be changed from a double to a twin room, and this had been with no problem at all. The building is fascinating, being 500 years old. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful, and the breakfasts were excellent. We stayed there over Christmas, and a particularly thoughtful touch was the Christmas stocking left outside the room door for us!

A good stay at an atmospheric late 16c traditional English Inn . Rooms comfortable with good modern en suite . Log fires in the bar and a carved wood panelled dining room. The beer ,the food (traditional pub fayre)and service was wonderful. The breakfast was great with ample choice of cooked and continental on offer. Helen the manageress was welcoming and most efficient . She managed the property very well indeed. We couldn’t hope for more and would definitely stay again .

I was sadly very disappointed, the hotel is tatting and needs some basic cleaning and painting. Positives: the bed was comfortable, it was quiet and the shower was a good pressure and hot. Negatives: the dust on the heater in the room was thick, mould in the bathroom with peeling paint, services at breakfast was awful meaning I missed out on a cooked breakfast as I was ignored for over 20mins and was required to leave for my work meeting. I would have raised these issues but reception was unmanned when I left.

Situated in a lovely Town centre, quirky black and white pub with typical unique low roofs, undulating floor and very old sections. The breakfast was great, the bedroom was cosy & warm with a comfortable bed. Reasonable price compared to others around. No parking on site but secure car park nearby with relatively cheap cost for overnight parking using a parking App. Ideal commute distance for Cheltenham and surrounding area. Would recommend

The staff were really friendly. Breakfast vegan options were excellent. The inn was interesting and in surprising good shape for its age. Parking over the street was easy - using the Ringo app you could add parking time from your room before the 8am starting time. Recommended!

Are warm and friendly welcome on arrival. Our room was large and had all the comforts we needed good selection of tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits large bed lovely clean and soft towels. It’s a 15th century building with flipping floors low ceilings etc but that just added to the charm. We had a drink in the bar and it was clearly a pub used by the locals who made us feel welcome. We did dine in the restaurant on our first night and yet again the food and service was excellent. Breakfast the following morning was very good lots of choices and all arrived piping hot and with more friendly smiles. Overall a great choice would definitely stay again

This is a great historic 16th century pub/inn and it really shows if you get a room in the old part of the building! not a straight line to be found, low doors, sloping floors, ancient timbers - great ! Landlord very welcoming and informative on the history of the buildng. Veggie breakfast excellent !

I had a very pleasant one night stay at the Talbot. My room was very comfortable with a king sized bed, ensuite, and tea and coffee making facilities (Taylors coffee bags even). Breakfast was served in the beautifully wood panelled dining room, where there was a large bowl of fruit compote and yoghurt as well as cereal waiting. There was a good choice of cooked food and eggs royale was perfect. It is a lovely old coaching inn slightly in need of some TLC but not modernising as that would spoil the charm of the place. I would definitely stay again.
