Nice building. The pool was clean and heated. The kids loved getting hot cocoa from the lobby before bed. The breakfast was very good and the breakfast room was nice. The befs and linens were clean and comfortable. The room was clean but could use a deep clean for the nooks and crannies. I am not a fan of bathtub showers and using a shower curtain. New showers would be a great upgrade eventually.

We have no complaints, just observations. The place is clearly under renovation, therefore no pool. But otherwise the property looks to be improving, is very clean and there are nice touches such as serving coffee and snacks, even a 4pm pound cake, which I was sorry to miss! The beds and bedding were superb. The price of the accommodation was very good considering how expensive it is to stay in the area.

First trip with our dog. We could not here anything in our room unless someone walked by the room. Quietest hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Breakfasts were great and we enjoyed the tea and cookies. We would love to stay again.

This is one of the cleanest hotels we've stayed this trip. Bathrooms, common areas, surroundings, breakfast hall - all very clean. Breakfast was varied and tasted great. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I'm being really picky here - the towels could use an upgrade to a thicker, larger brand to match the other excellent features of this hotel. Don't forget cookies and tea time around 4:15 in the lobby.

Water was ice cold they lost their boiler, there was dust from a renovation all over our room, and there were hairs all over not only the towel in our room, but the one they offered us in response to my complaints. Really disgusting. And I don’t usually complain, I’m not picky. The staff were pleasant. Mgmt refunded me one night, but they charged me for the lousy night that my teenage daughter and I spent there with cold water, a dirty bathtub, and hair all over the towels. Sinister.

Got a good deal on the rate, otherwise might not be as generous with my review. Love the exterior and common areas in terms of style/decor. Very cozy and somewhat kitschy. The room was clean and updated. Bed was reasonably comfortable but pillows somewhat lacking. The main issues were: poorly functioning AC unit. It was either stuffy or cold. Noise; the rooms were not well sound proofed, especially the door/hallway noise but also road noise. The refrigerator (nice perk) made random loud noises all night, along with the AC. I used earplugs to sleep. The staff weren’t very friendly, just an occasional obligatory good morning at best. The exception was the lovely gentleman presiding over the breakfast service. Speaking of which - there is indeed a wide selection of hot food of typical budget hotel quality, but nothing to write home about. They really need to add a non-dairy option instead of only 2% milk for cereal etc. due to the noise and rough time sleeping, I wouldn’t stay here again if I could help it.

This is a nice, somewhat older place in the midst of a renovation, in a nondescript spot just off the highway but very convenient to UVA and restaurants on the commercial road. It's also very dog-friendly--too much so, I'd say. We had a small-sounding dog in the room next to us that barked when we passed in the hall. We didn't mind that, but when it barked at sunrise, that was the end of our sleep. Couldn't the dogs be confined to one wing of this large hotel?

The hotel was very clean. The beds were hard to sleep on though. It caused my hip bones and back to hurt. The second night we were there I didn’t even sleep, just stayed up sitting the chair all night cuz my body couldn’t take another night in the bed. The third night they gave me blankets to stack to help and it did. They need to upgrade their TVs. No access to Netflix or Hulu or any streaming at all.

It was noisy because of its close proximity to major highways. Also, wall AC unit is uncomfortable and loud. Could not sleep well because of loud noise from the AC unit; it was not possible to open the window because of the traffic noise. Pictures, which do not show wall AC, were a bit misleading.

We were only there one night, and thankfully so. Our #1 criterion in judging a room is comfort of the bed and, the moment I sat down on ours, I knew it would be a sleepless night for my wife. Bed comfort can definitely be subjective but I have never sat down on the edge of a bed and had it not give in the least. The loveseat in the adjacent room, which we didn't realize we would be getting, seemed to be a relic of the 70s and you sank 3 inches upon sitting on it. At any price point, we won't be returning.

What I liked about the English Inn of Charlottesville is the charm complete with tea service in the comfy entry lounge, cleanliness and generous accommodations with the room I had and a very lovely and full buffet at breakfast. What I was disappointed with was the receptionist at the front desk; after a long drive (6 hours) I was greeted, or should I say not greeted so warmly by the receptionist. She was slightly polite however, not offering information about check out, and time and place of breakfast. The receptionist I spoke to at check out was sweet and wonderful.

Scott at the front desk made sure we were comfortable, and graciously upgraded us to a suite when we had some issues with our room. Breakfast was very good with a wide variety of options. The location was very quiet and convenient, and free parking was a plus. We will definitely return!

Come stay for the comfort and make sure to check out the community garden just behind the hotel. This will be our go-to place for any upcoming stays in Charlottesville. Nice.

This place is so clean even the back (not very public) stairs are spotless! Super dedicated front desk manager made the whole 4 day stay a delight. Fantastic breakfast included in room stay. Large comfortable suites. Only deficiency: wifi was sub-par and dropped a lot even with weak signal.

Single worst check in experience ever…front desk was empty, no one there but a note saying “we’ll be back”. When she did show up she’d already passed me multiple times while doing other things and never acknowledged me (I had no idea she was an employee based on how she was dressed and how she ignored me). This woman never says “hello”, “please”, “thank you” or even cracked a smile during the very efficient check in. I tried to engage her, but she may be the most miserable employee I’ve ever met. It didn’t bode well, I assumed if she hated her job so much it was likely because she worked in a terrible place. Here’s the great news…the hotel was lovely. Clean, nice and quiet, easy parking. Well situated with plenty of places to grab food close by. Good walking areas for visiting dogs. Lots of cars in the parking lot but very little activity in the hotel. I would absolutely stay here again, but next time I would be ready for a front desk employee that hates me and hates her job.

The location was convenient for our purpose, which was helping our daughter move apartments. The morning breakfast was very good. The staff was superlative as I had checked out leaving a shirt on the bed. When I called the front desk they indicated they would look and call me back and sure enough they had located and called me back in time for me to retrieve the shirt and still make my flight!

The room and the hotel itself were very clean and appealing. The staff was friendly and efficient and welcoming. Lots of food and drink options as well as some basic necessities available in the lobby. Parking was easy and close to the doors. Grounds were nicely kept. About a 1 mile walk to concert arena with lots or shopping and food options close by. I would like stay there again and would recommend

Very clean and updated property. I talked with the maintenance manager and found that they had undergone a two year remodel. Great showers. Hot water and pressure was great. My wife and I enjoyed the afternoon tea service with baked items in the lounge. Close to interstate and access to many tourists areas and UVA. Planning a Fall trip.

The updated areas were very nice. It was very apparent in the too. What had not been updated( electric socket in bathroom not fully installed/ space around it). The breakfast was very limited- yogurt had artificial sweetener, nothing for someone with gluten intolerance and the eggs were marginal. Staff not that helpful

Rooms are clean. Only one elevator. It's a little dated but charming. Refrigerator was very loud. There seem to be great amenities but they didn't tell you about them or give you any information about accessing them at check in. There is nothing in the room either. Had to search down breakfast times. Breakfast was ok but hot foods were warm at best. Just an overnight stay for an early appointment so meet my needs.
