The Morar Hotel

Nothing about our stay, other than the receptionist at the front desk was good. The hotel is in need of an overhaul. They are doing some painting on the outside of the building which meant scaffolding on the outside and in front of our ocean view window - which had plastic draped across it so that we could not see the view even-though we had paid extra for the view.

Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Good parking Excellent food and very attentive wait staff. Restaurant looks over the loch. Wifi works fine don’t believe any negative reviews. Room for 3. Large and comfortable.

Accommodating for Pets, but property is tired. Needs work on updating the facilities

I stayed at this hotel alone with my dog. Dogs are welcome throughout the hotel. I was able to take him with me to dinner and breakfast, he was allowed in the bar, and there was a special area for guests with dogs next to the restaurant. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel was very clean and well-maintained. The view of the sea from the window was wonderful. The area is peaceful. I would definitely stay there again.

This was a great place to stay for two nights. The hotel is beautiful with amazing views and a sandy beach nearby. It was cold so we didn’t go to the beach. The property is apparently under fairly new management and they are doing a great job! I think it might be family run. They had signs up about being short staffed (As is everyone right now) but were very friendly, helpful, and attentive to us. We wanted for nothing. It was the same small group of people seemingly working non-stop from dawn til midnight, but they helped us with whatever we needed. Our room was great. Very comfortable. It is also Is very affordable. And did I mention, the staff were great. So very friendly and accommodating. You should know that it is a three story hotel with out elevators. We were on the third floor and I asked for someone to carry u our bags and they arrived at our door about 5 minutes later. Highly recommend! I get the impression that the hotel may not have had the best reputation in the past, but I can attest that it is great now. Also if you eat in the restaurant and you like pasta, you must try the penne and spinach. It’s basically Alfredo, but they didn’t call it that. It was so good that we ate it both nights! Thank you to the staff and owners of this beautiful small hotel!

I liked the views from our room, and the beds were suitable. I didn't like there wasn't a lift, and the room was upstairs. There was a lot of areas to sit and relax. The restaurant had a patio with a wonderful view as the hotel sits on the top of a hill.

Great location with fabulous views from the restaurant and off road parking. Staff very friendly. Food was good but not quite as good as I'd had locally.

Clean hotel with a very lovely front desk lady. If you dining in the dining room, get the Salmon, you won’t regret it. This hotel has lots of stairs and no lifts so be aware. This hotel is quite pricy but due to it’s location it matches others in this area.

The Staff were excellent, especially Akram who seemed to be everywhere! Rooms spotlessly clean and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We were asked if we wanted breakfast in the morning we had to leave early than the dinning room opened. We were still charged for breakfast. Also when you looked up, the bathroom air filter was filthy

Not been updated since 1980, shower and carpet covered in hairs, sink did not drain and room was damp. All that for £220 breakfast.

My family live in Morar but had a full house so I picked this place. 20 mins walk from their home. It was very very basic. I was gone most of the day so I didn’t get to check if there were other amenities. But no coffee or tea maker. Room was small. Bed not bad, I slept quite well but I was very tired. Twin bed size much too small. Someone had soiled the duvet cover. Management handled that quickly. View from my window spectacular

We wanted to be in Morar so this was an easy and convenient choice. I had noticed low reviews but we were tired and also saw new ownership so wanted to be fair to them. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, and shower lovely. Bed was comfortable. Rooms are small and the wording is what throw me off “deluxe, superior…I can tell there has been some renovations done to help update. I’d like to see them put some deep cleaning on windows and furniture polished, lower the price a bit, rooms are small but have everything you need but are not superior, or deluxe! Lots of potential and I wish them well

Comfortable and clean and friendly. A bit spartan. Very good restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. Listed under Skye but on the mainland side of the ferry. Economical way to be close enough to Skye to spend a day and local walking is enjoyable.

A quiet hotel just a 10 minute drive from Mallaig. Very friendly staff. We did have a room with an ocean view but it got a little noisy in the morning since it was located over the dining area.

The Morar Hotel looks recently refurbished. Comfortable, clean bedrooms, large and well-appointed bathroom, cozy bar, terrific dinner options in restaurant overlooking Loch Morar. A great place to stay! Excellent hot buffet breakfast. Thanks to the wonderfully friendly staff.

Beautiful views from our rooms! Rooms were spotless if a bit dated, but great mattresses and shower. The restaurant was also fantastic, the dinner options were varied and every single one was delicious, compliments to the chef! Staff also super friendly and caring. Breakfast was good, standard for what we've found in other scottish hotels but a tad expensive as most other places had it included. My only criticism is that we had a 'corner' room that backed up onto what I assume was some sort of generator and there was a very loud hum/vibration for 10 mins every 5 mins or so throughout the night which made it impossible to sleep. I let the receptionist know who said they would get someone to have a look at it. Hopefully this gets fixed soon as it's was a shame in an otherwise great stay.

We had a pleasant stay overall at the Morar Hotel. Decent value, nice staff, and we got a sea view upgrade! The bathroom was newly renovated but the property is on the older side and the beds could use a serious upgrade.

The Restaurant staff is absolutely amazing especially Akram and Tuan they go out of their way to make sure your needs are taken care of.. This place rocks and I would return in a heartbeat.

Do not waste your time or money!!!!This was our family dream vacation to Scotland and up until our visit to the Morar Hotel we were having a great time. We had booked months in advance and the accommodations were not cheap. So you could imagine our disappointment when we walked into our Hostel like condition of a room with the view of an brick wall. The hotel should have had a disclaimer and definitely should have been discounting this room. (To be honest I would even offer a room like this)The phone didn't work, water pressure was awful, beds sucks and it wasn't very clean. We asked to be moved to another room and they could accommodate us so we asked to have the stay cancelled. The on duty manager who couldn't speak English had to call another manager for me to talk with. That manager said he would only refund us the second night, which was a joke to begin with. After securing a new hotel 3+hours away we left only to return to Canada and to receive an email telling us they won't be refunding us our money. This was quite a shock to us and it really tells you a lot about he management of this hotel/Hotel chain. They could care less about their clients, they used false advertisement to secure our stay and they didn't honor the commitment or their word to us on the refund. The only pleasant part was dealing with the lady at the front desk, who's hands were tied. Thanks for a terrible experience Morar management team and for not honoring you word. Avoid this hotel!

Front desk staff didn’t show up until 3:30, people were waiting for hours in a small town with nothing to do/eat. Very basic rooms with water for shampoo/soap. Very overpriced for what you get. Front staff young lady was friendly and helpful

It was fantastic that you can literally get off the Scot rail train at Morar and walk 50m to the door of the hotel! Which was especially amazing given it was pouring rain when we arrived. It was a lovely little place, friendly helpful staff at reception and in the restaurant. Restaurant food was fabulous, and we saw an amazing sunset through the clouds as our meal ended and the rain stopped. Excellent and memorable stay. Many thanks to the reception desk employee, young lady, who helped us figure out how to get to the ferry by local bus the next morning in time, as the local taxi service was already booked up!

Stunning views from the room windows. Beautiful and serene. Highly recommend. 3 mile walk into town of Mallaig on bike path. Akram a fantastic manager who goes above and beyond to make sure guests are happy and comfortable.

Check in was at 3pm, I did there 30 mins early bit no one around so got a drink eventually at the bar and waited. Checked in at 3pm and room wasnt ready, so had to wait another 30mins. Hotel is a bit dated, room wasn't clean, yet had to pay an extra £20 for my dog, which I presume goes towards the cleaning. I didnt complain as I had been travelling since 3am and had already been told the hotel was fully booked with a coach party, and when i went back down there were queues at reception. When i checked in I booked a table in the bar for food. Went down, took a table and then was ignored a few times before I eventually asked if I could order some food, they saod they would be back in a minute and then disappeared. I ended up leaving and driving into the port to eat there. The only plus point with this hotel is the view from my room (not all rooms have a sea view).

We arrived very late and staff was extremely kind with our situation. Thank you so much. We won’t forget it!!

The service was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I was out to work early each day before breakfast and the staff/chef made me a substantial packed meal to take with me each day. Very friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely phenomenal staff. Special location.

Lovely beach access

There is nothing else in Morar, no place to eat when the restaurant in the hotel is closed. No shopping and no places of interest. I arrived on the train at 2:00 p.m. and wasn’t allowed to check in until 3:00. After a five hour train ride with no food I was extremely hungry but the restaurant in the hotel didn’t open until 6:00 p.m. What to do on a cold and windy day when I couldn’t check into my room? And then what to do until 6:00 when I’m really hungry? My advice is don’t choose this hotel if you depend on the train schedule and don’t have a car. The photo on the website is deceptive because it makes it look like it’s close to the bay. It’s not. But the view of the bay from the restaurant and from rooms that face the bay is quite lovely, even in the rain.

Great stay! The staff are super welcoming and helpful. I had a sea view which was stunning. I was using as my base camp to explore the highlands but it is a bit far out of the way. If you want to go to Isle of Skye it will be at least 3 hours driving or book the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale and it will save you a ton of time. Just book it early since it fills up. Will definitely stay here again.

The hotel suited our needs perfectly as we traveled from Glasgow to the Isle of Skye. The property itself could use some TLC but the location was perfect for us, the views were amazing, the staff very friendly and the food was tasty! We had a portion of our party arrive via train and another by car, the hotel was close to the station which was very convenient. The bar was enjoyable with both hotel guests and locals enjoying a drink. The staff alerted us that with the size of our party (and kids) it was best to order early to ensure we were served in a timely manner. We were able to have our kids relax in the room while we enjoyed drinks instead of waiting in the restaurant which was very helpful. After dinner we took a nice walk along a short path to the water front. The only negative was they charged £3.50 for a drip coffee from a carafe and really seemed to push for us to eat their breakfast. For being so isolated giving your guests the ability to have a cup of coffee or buy a freshly made coffee in the morning would have been a good option.

Beautiful setting, with fantastic views

Location close to beach

Lovely small, older hotel. Clean and comfortable, very welcoming staff with surprisingly good restaurant. The only downside is the rather bizarre location. The hotel snd adjacent train whistle stop are about all there is to the tony hamlet of Morar. The options for getting to the larger village of Mallaig (2.75 miles away) are quite limited if you don’t have your own car. You can wait for the twice a day train, take your chances with the intermittently available single car for hire, or hoof it.

The hotel is in a beautiful location very close to the silver sands of Morar and a few miles from Mallaig. We had fabulous weather and stunning views from our bedroom. Staff were extremely helpful and our one evening meal was excellent. The interior of the hotel needs a bit of tlc but is clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

The person that checked up is was so kind and helpful. She helped us again after we were settled in to get a fan and extra blankets. They also kept the kitchen open late for us since we arrived later than expected. The food was amazing!

Tidy room. Small bathroom but perfect to well equipped for my one night stay. Ate in the restaurant- portion sizes huge and well cooked

Dinner was ok but breakfast was terrible and there was no option of just getting a cup of coffee - you had to pay for the full buffet even if you only wanted coffee

It was an impulse decision to stay at the Morar Hotel and I was glad I did. The sea view single I booked had everything you need, was comfortable and had a stunning view over the Silver sands. The room was good value for money. The restaurant was a little pricey but I suppose that's due to the location. Breakfast was extensive and tasty.

This was a beautiful hotel! Our room was small, but very clean and comfortable with a renovated bathroom. We had a view of the water, and this was one of the best views we’ve ever seen. The hotel is up on a hill overlooking the river and bay and you can’t find a more idyllic setting. We ate dinner at the hotel’s restaurant and the food was incredible. It was the best meal we had out of 10 days in Scotland, by far!
