We had an amazing 9 holes of golf with our two daughters at 7 pm, amidst the gorgeous Highlands, many, many sheep - and no one else on the course! We finished the evening with a dram at the bar, billiards with our kids - and woke up to the best Scottish breakfast we have ever had! A truly memorable stay at Dalmunzie! Lovely room, view, food & staff! We will look forward to another stay, some time soon!

Enjoyed our stay - slightly quirky, rustic feel to the place in a beautiful remote location. Room was large and well appointed with views over the hills. Food in the dining room was really good - excellent quality food and friendly attentive service. Comfortable bar and lounge areas. Golf course was fun with great views if a little rough and ready. A good base to explore the area.

Great old castle and grounds. Converted to include quite a few guest rooms, they have a great history, breakfast and dinner options were all very good. The bar is unexpectedly well stocked and very comfortable. Would definitely come back. The staff is incredibly accommodating.

All staff we were in contact with from reception, bar and meals were fantastic. Our dinner and breakfast were very good and of good quantity and value. Even though we were in a Castle, our room was dated compared to some others and could do with a freshen up. Windows could do with a wipe over to remove mould from condensation. Hydronic radiators could do with a service as we were woken during the night by them. Overall we were happy with our stay and thought it was reasonable value.

This property is really unique. It is so peaceful and beautiful- lambs, highland mountains and scenery everywhere you look! We absolutely loved it. Beyond this, the food and service were amazing, too! For a small hotel, the kitchen staff and food quality were an unexpected delight. The hotel itself is clean albeit small and dated rooms (exactly what I expected), but the beds were comfortable and facilities in good working order. Overall a great experience and I would return.

This is tough. We loved the grounds, it was secluded and beautiful you could spend hours walking. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive all around and the bar area was nice to hang out in and meet some other people! Breakfast was really good too. However, immediately upon entering our room it reeked of cigarette smoke. There was no other room there or near there. They comped us a couple of drinks from the bar but we left stuffy in the morning. The room was OK. Considering the age of the building as one thing, the decor, furniture and linens could be updated. The beds were OK, but not super comfy. The linens looked like they had a yellow tinge and had tears in the sheets. So depending on what you’re looking for this may have everything you want but if you want a super clean, comfortable room I don’t think this would be it. If you want superb staff and amazing grounds then this would be it! To each their own.

We interacted with 2 staff- one was pleasant and the other was not particularly helpful and didnt seem service-oriented in her approach. Our room was very tired and a not the cleanest. Breakfast is served at 8/830, which I thought was late for a place that is isolated (no other options within 45 min drive). We needed breakfast at 7/730 and they were not flexible and could not provide a to-go option. Dinner attempted to be imaginative but wasn't well executed (expensive, not great quality).

Dalmunzie Castle Hotel was conveniently located for us. The staff was absolutely wonderful. Both breakfasts and dinners were delicious. The castle is charming, especially the grounds. You hear the birds and the sheep and nothing else. The hallways with their different carpets have seen better times. I believe the rooms differ slightly from each other as is common in historic houses. We had a Superior Double (Tower Room). The bed was comfy, the view great, both the bedroom and bathroom spacious. The empty shelves and random sink in the bedroom were a little weird though. Overall we had a good time (good food, good sleep and great people).

We had a wonderful stay at Dalmunzie Castle, Glenshee. Fabulous setting and a beautiful castle. The log fire, Christmas tree and fairy lights made it look very festive and welcoming. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was beautiful. It had a four poster bed, beautifully polished furniture in keeping with the castle and two windows giving a wonderful view of the hills. it was very clean, warm and comfortable, good lighting and sockets. The bathroom was very clean, the water nice and hot and there was a shower over the bath, which was perfect for a nice hot soak using the bath salts provided. We had dinner in the restaurant and once again the staff were very attentive, friendly and professional. The menu was excellent and prepared with care. We really enjoyed the salmon which was perfectly cooked. Sadly we had to leave before breakfast but will definitely stay longer next time.

The location is very very remote, which is fine, just be aware of this fact. I reserved here as I wanted a castle stay and saw the wonderful photos of richly decorated rooms. This was not the case for us. Our room was up on the 3rd floor under dormer ceiling and felt like a dorm room. It was small, clean and simply decorated. It did not feel like a castle at all, which is sad as it was a surprise for my sisters’ birthday. Breakfast is not included even though when we checked in, we were told it was. Lovely country grounds to walk around and enjoy nature.

Loved everything about the property. Staff were amazing , they were welcoming, warm, friendly and made every effort to make your stay a positive experience. The room we occupied was spacious and the bed was comfortable. There was plenty draw space to put your clothes into, but no hanging space. That said with the angles of the walls and the eaves of the room meant there was no place to actually fit a wardrobe for this purpose, so without major renovation to the room, this was beyond the hotels control. The only other minor point is that there was no toilet brush in the bathroom, but this by no means had any impact on our stay !

Lovely castle hotel set in a beautiful valley between the hills. Decor is very Scottish and quite quirky but looking a bit tired in places that could be fixed quite easily and would make the hotel great instead of very good. A charging point for mobile phones in the room would be welcome and an easy fix. Had a truly enjoyable stay and the staff were excellent.

The only notes I'd leave would be it appears they very much want to keep the old castle charm which is why we booked it, however the cushions could benefit from restuffing and oddly enough our bathroom backsplash was 70s/80s black rainbow sparkle tile which took away from the old castle charm. Super minor in the grand scheme of things. Overall we had a lovely stay. Would definitely recommend.

When we arrived we were given our key & told to read our book in the room to figure out the hotel & what it had to offer. I never really knew what areas of the house were available for use & never really felt comfortable or welcomed here. The property is beautiful and picturesque. We enjoyed what the area had to offer. The shower just got water everywhere no matter what we tried, but it was hot & clean. Our remote control didn’t work well at all, but we didn’t come to Scotland to watch tv. That being said, our room was spacious and cozy. I loved our breakfasts, especially the porridge. However, we were told we couldn’t eat at 8am because there was already one table booked. I found that strange that only one table at a time slot was taken. All in all we enjoyed our room, but really never felt welcome.

They need to hire more staff. The woman acting as waitress also worked the front desk as well as waiting the restaurant.

The morale of the staff was terrible. Nobody smiled. The castle hotel is in a remote location and the staff must not be able to get to the nearest town very often. I Would not recommend this place. It has seen better days.

Great old castle and grounds. Converted to include quite a few guest rooms, they have a great history, breakfast and dinner options were all very good. The bar is unexpectedly well stocked and very comfortable. Would definitely come back. The staff is incredibly accommodating.

This is such a unique stay. It is tucked way back in a beautiful location - we were so pleased with the solitary nature of the hotel! It is a *bit* fancier than we expected, but we were overall pleased with the space.

Dalmunzie is a quiet country retreat which is great for a romantic getaway. The country side around the property is beautiful with sheep and goats. Good golf course. There is a narrow old staircase. So you need to be able to carry your own luggage upstairs. Great food and wonderful breakfast. Great location to visit Balmoral Castle and the Glenshee ski fields in winter.

Charming early 20th century castle with family history back to 2000BC. Friendly staff, comfortable room with historical decor and fixtures. Lots of hiking around the hotel. We had a lovely hike in the hills, by the streams and sheep. Breakfast and dinner outstanding and delicious with very generous portions. Parking not clear and difficult to find in the dark.

It may have been my fault as places were limited due to the Highland Games, but very remote. More dated and not warm as other castles we have been to while traveling Europe. Staff didn’t ask how the stay went so I couldn’t explain things to them instead of on this post.

The food at this property was one of the worst experiences I have had at a hotel. The food was exceptionally expensive and, to be honest, quite strange. To me, it seemed as if the menu was needlessly fancy. I am all for an adventurous menu but it has to be properly executed. Fish cakes were cold, the chocolate venison dish was served with a melted chocolate on the plate, and the chicken liver pate only contained one texture on the plate. The cooks could cook as all of the breakfast was excellent, but the main meals were honestly entirely dissapointing and horrendously overpriced.

I really enjoyed our stay here. The castle is charming, the breakfast and dinner were incredible and the staff were friendly and helpful. We only booked in for 1 night but I wished we'd been able to stay longer to explore the mountains and rivers on the estate.

Lovely period accommodations in a stunning remote country setting. Beautiful rooms, although my bathroom needed to be updated. The food was excellent. I had the trout in the formal dining room my first night and it was perfectly cooked. The next evening I had the burger with the murder blue cheese topping and chips. One of the best burgers I have ever had! Excellent, friendly service. Highly recommend.

Everything about this hotel is excellent though we were disappointed there was only one choice of starter and main for vegetarians. Thankfully we also eat fish so we had a choicr. A true vegan or vegatarian would be disappointed. Plenty variety for meat eaters

Staying here feels like stepping back in time, as everything in the castle is beautifully authentic. Our room was massive, almost like a suite, and the beds were very comfortable. The surroundings and scenery are beautiful. We also had dinner at the restaurant, and the meal was perfect and of high quality, just like the breakfast. We did not experience any downsides during our stay.

Dalmunzie Castle provides a very comfortable stay. The rooms are traditionally decorated and very clean. Walks along the River are spectacular. Food in the restaurant and the breakfast is excellent. Only stayed one night and recommend as a stopover.
