Attractive inn accommodation with a good restaurant.

Large and good restaurant is part of the hotel. Nice breakfast included. Excellent dinner. A little short on staff, but those there were friendly and capable.

Really quirky decor and great food

Really good place to stay. Easy to get to as well connected to motorway without being so close you can hear it. Food is excellent and I would visit just to have dinner.

Very handy for making a weekend out of a trip to the theatre. Amazing food.

It was a last minute booking and I was blown away at the service, the quality of the rooms and the finishes. Loads of little details that you would not normally get in this price range. Then the evening meal which I have to say was one of the best three course meals I have ever tasted, every last little crumb was a sheer delight. Can’t wait to go again

We loved the charm of the property. The onsite restaurant was exceptional. Our Sunday dinner of pork, lamb, yorkshire pudding, potatoes and gravy were amazing. The chef works magic!

Staff were faultless 10 out of 10. Both dinner & breakfast presented well however warm not hot. Under rim of sink needed cleaning dust sitting ontop of lid on toilet brush & not sure floor had been cleaned before we arrived as ball of dust under chair & marks/dark hair on bathroom floor. A little more attention to detail required (Fox room).

My room was very dirty and hasn’t been cleaned; all surfaces were covered in thick dust

Our room was very clean and well appointed. We appreciated the tea in the room and the large shower with ample hot water.

Always my go to now when in Newbury for business. Staff so friendly, excellent breakfast and room comfortable, if a bit on on the small side. My only bit of feedback from this visit is wheni pulled the TV out for optimal viewing position there was a thick layer of dust on the wall mount..just an oversight im sure.

This is a really tough one to do a review on. They clearly are trying so hard to make your stay a special one. The staff are brilliant and the food is excellent and really can't fault them on that side of things. The room was nicely decorated and a lovely bathroom area, however the overhead shower had a lot of dust and water marks so clearly not cleaned for a while. The bathroom itself was clean. The carpet really could do with a clean as a lot of stains. The advert says slippers, dressing gown and bottled water of which none could be found. Again nothing major, but without water it is hard to make tea or coffee with machines provided. The part we found most frustrating and it meant little sleep was that our room was directly over the bar and we could hear a group of people downstairs talking until after 1:30am which in all honesty I am unsure if it was staff or guests but either way if they moved to the main dining area it wouldn't have impacted us at all. The other frustration although told all rooms are sound proofed a slight design floor where downstairs bar has a speaker in the ceiling which is directly under the bedroom meaning despite the speaker being low ambient sound you can still hear the music which they turn off at 11pm but turn back on at 7:30am meaning a disruption of sleep. I am sure the staff who open up could select that bar area speaker isn't turned on until later in the morning. For us the pillows were far to hard, but didn't raise this issue.

Lovely accommodation and welcoming staff Arrived 18:30 to find Sunday food serving was finished however staff asked chef if he can do me something to eat which he did and was lovely food. Few things I question- I stood at bar to order drinks and food and service charge added on automatically without me realising I prefer to tip afterwards if appropriate then ordered again at bar dessert again service charge added on which I questioned this time and asked for it to be removed which it was however it should not be there automatically!! Room cleanliness overall good but small windows room was hot and no fan leaving windows open right next to seating area and smoking area isn’t great so at least get a fan in the room The shower tiles lower down lots of mould get your cleaning staff actually cleaning the tiles lower down as slimy mould can be remover with a bit of elbow grease On entering room it smelt damp However this did not affect my stay and would stay again if the above notes were improved this could be 5***** Very accommodating staff

We stayed here over a long weekend with a large group, including children, and had an excellent experience. The staff were outstanding! Max, in particular, went above and beyond to make sure everyone was well taken care of. The level of service was exceptional. The rooms were comfortable and spacious and well maintained, and the food was excellent. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

It’s a very charming pub hotel and the staff are very friendly, but it is on a busy road and the rooms in the front of the pub are noisy, so bring ear plugs, or ask to have rooms further back in the stables. Our friends stayed in the annex which was noisy too - bottles being thrown into trash bins throughout the night, etc and work was being done by someone at 5am. Great location though for Donnington Grove Golf Club and Highclere Castle.

Stayed 1night for a business trip, have stayed several times so knew what to expect..opted for a deluxe room but didnt see any difference from a standard room..the room was very small but perfectly formed, had an excellent nights sleep. Lady on reception at check in was lovely despite being very busy, and helped me out with no fuss when i locked myself out of my room. Will stay again next time im in Newbury.

Lovely room decorated with character. Comfortable bed, very fluffy towels. Breakfast was superb. Staff helpful and friendly.

My husband I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hare & Hounds! It is a beautifully done Inn… the main facility and our room were decorated to perfection. 5 stars for cleanliness and updated facilities, while maintaining the countryside charm. Our host, Damian, was especially warm and welcoming. He made us feel very special and at home. We left wanting to come back for a visit.

The added extras like complementary sloe gin, earplugs & joss sticks. However it was extremely hot but if we’d opened the window it would have been too noisy.

This is a lovely, country-town hotel. Gorgeous decor, superb catering and above all, delightful staff - professional, efficient, friendly and charming. Truly, nothing seemed to be any trouble for them at all - rare these days! Very high standards all round.

Lovely room but restaurant service is slow. Lots of time when there was no one in the restaurant. At breakfast we sat down on our own accord as there was no one around,after what seemed like a long time, I got us the menus and eventually someone came to take the order. They need more staff and better trained staff.

Also, adding the tip automatically to the bill for a table of two is a step too far for me, we aren’t in the USA, let’s not start pretending that we are. If you pay your waiting staff industry leading wages and then allow customers to leave tips for truly exceptional service instead of expecting customer to top up salaries on behalf of the business that would be a much better proposition for customers and drive better service (and yes I’m aware we can have the tip removed from the bill but that’s not the point here).

Service and approach of every staff member was excellent and to be commended. The food was varied and enjoyable with very good selection of wines and beer. It is on a main road but not noticeable with rooms spread out surrounding the main hotel - very well thought out

Lovely stay, with unexpected extras, like the sloe gin sample in the room, coffee machine & kettle, pillow mist & lovely toiletries - some really lovely touches - room styling was very bespoke, with quality décor, styling & was very well presented. Service levels do need improvement however, with the need for additional hospitality staff training & attentiveness, whilst not forgetting previous table service requests - the restaurant was only 1/3 full, but the staff looked very overrun. I thought menu choices for dinner were good and the pricing was fair. Our orders/requests for water/ drinks though, were forgotten about at least 3 times. The waitress commented to us that I would need to go to the bar to get my drink as they were exceptionally busy, whilst I waited the 8-9 minutes at the bar, my food had already been brought to the table, so when I returned is wasn't very hot.. Breakfast choices were good, although the 3 times I went for juice/glass, there were none avail & no fruit juice & wasn't replenished during the sitting. I would love to return again, but some little disappointments - which could easily be improved on, without too much effort. Thank you.

Really disappointed. The reception desk is not manned and it took a long wait before check in and check out. I booked a suite but was given a small room in the loft. The window had been left wide open so it was bitterly cold on arrival. There is no water or milk for coffee in the room. One of the windows had no blind or curtain. The bathroom is very small with the sloping roof it is impossible to use the toilet stood up. There is no mirror at the sink but on the other side of the room. There is no room service so I was told to order at the bar and then carry it up to my room. I did this and the dessert was brought to me 10 minutes before my main. A catalogue of problems which I have not experienced at this hotel before.

It is an ideal spot. We went to the races at Newbury. The room was comfortable and clean. The food was excellent. The main issue was staffing, there were simply not enough. Apparently 2 of their bar / restaurant staff called in sick. It was chaos and very slow. Sophie (duty manager) did her best and was excellent, but it was an uphill struggle with the rooms, bar and restaurant all full !!

This chic and very esthetic hotel was everything I imagined it to be! Staff was very nice and very accommodating to all needs! Restaurant was absolutely delicious with unique yet simple great dishes. Communication was staff was great! Can’t wait to visit again!

Very good location, clean and well appointed rooms. My only suggestion is change the kitchen service call bell. Eating in the restaurant is like dining in a hospital ICU !!!!

Friendly welcome, good food, great location. Rooms facing the street are very noisy, very hot (summer). I'd like them to be a bit cleaner. Otherwise, top-notch!

Brief overnight stay only,having stayed here nearly a year before on our travels,suited our purposes.to return. Room nbr1 was clean and tidy,good facilities,is obviously a popular place on both stays-January and December -as dining and bar areas full. Room was on front next to main road,earplugs provided if needed due to traffic,previous stay was quieter in carpark area accommodation Easy access from M4

Quirky accommodation however the suite we had was on the front of the property and extremely noisy from road traffic. Also loud music came through the walls and air vent in bathroom banged a lot.

Having stayedvher on numerous occasions , we were disappointed with the room, the room was not cleaned, no new towels given no fresh milk delivered as previously. The food was mediocre , the poor waitresses was left to deal with a full restaurant with no help. The caperts are badly stained

Wonderful helpful staff. All very pleasant. Service in restaurant let it down as we had to wait so long. Breakfast very good but again a very long wait. Hotel was lovely but just the restaurant service wasn’t great at all. Rooms very nice, small but ample. Fans were greatly appreciated. Toiletries very good too and excellent hair dryer!

Lovely hotel, staff and the rooms are decorated very well. Only downfall was the breakfast…the restaurant when I came down at 8:30am was a mess, barely a clean table, almost every table had plates with left over food…. The breakfast itself I am sure was precious days food warmed up. This is shame as I’ve had lunch there before and it was really good…. Perhaps there was a staffing issue, I don’t know. I’d still come back, however fresh breakfast next time please.
