Riva Boutique Hotel

Stayed a few nights over the weekend whilst working in the area. Staff including Christine were very helpful and friendly. Free breakfast included which was nice continental and drink. Room wasn’t the biggest however it had a modern shower room and the bed was the softest I’ve ever slept in. Massive smart TV and nice tassimo machine within the room. The food was amazing and had the lunch special every day. Located in a great location by the seafront. Free parking located by the leisure centre. Would stay again!

This hotel is well situated on the main road going through Helensburgh. There are a number of pubs and restaurants within walking distance, and the hotel also has a restaurant. Parking is free, in the large leisure centre car park across the road. The only negative for me was the hotel does not offer a cooked breakfast, which is surprising as it has a restaurant built into it. The continental breakfast appeared to be your average hotel continental breakfast. Staff were friendly.

Staff went above and beyond, very approachable, very friendly. I had dinner in the restaurant one night and the food was amazing. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very cosy and relaxing. Only issue I can say is all the hotel rooms are upstairs, which for me was quite difficult when checking in and checking out. But other than that 10/10! I would definitely stay at the riva again.

Check in gave us a room which was inconvenient (3 flights of stairs), and Very Small. Another desk clerk later corrected that and gave us a more suitalbe room. Staff was great, facilities are old, with the exception of the bathrooms.

Property has restaurant and located next to waterfront. Car charger is available close to the hotel. Staff were amazing and very helpful.

The staff were very accommodating with out son from the base coming down to share breakfast with us. We will definitely be staying again.

This is a great option for visiting Helensburgh. It's right in the centre and a short walk to the train station. The rooms are comfy and the staff are helpful. Just keep in mind that there's a bar downstairs, so it can be a little noisy until the bar closes.

Beautiful accommodation, above the bar/restaurant (which you can't hear) but the noise from customers o/s smoking etc is really annoying. The bed was really comfortable & shower amazing but, unfortunately, we won't stay again as we had a really poor nights sleep.

We were away for an overnight stay for my birthday. We had been in this restaurant for a meal on a previous visit to Helensburgh staying in the nearby Rosslea Hotel and thought it was excellent. When we arrived we were a bit dubious as there was a “Boozy Brunch” event going on and it was very rowdy but we got checked in no bother with the lovely hotel receptionist Christina. The event was over by about 4pm so we had no concerns regarding noise etc. Our room was fabulous. Spotlessly clean with lots of nice wee touches i.e a Tassimo coffee machine, record player and a selection of albums. We booked a table in restaurant for 7pm and went out for a walk round the town. When we got back we sat in the bar area at 6.20pm and ordered a few drinks before dinner. We had been shown to our table at 7pm and had to ask about the drinks we had ordered more than half an hour previously. We enjoyed our starters but my husband got brought the wrong main course. Main course was really bland, and looked like it had just been dumped onto the plate. We raised concerns with the staff and they did apologise, and were told the chef had changed recently. As I said the room was amazing, only complaint is it was noisy as it overlooked the main road. We had a cooked breakfast, which was lovely apart from the fried eggs which were burnt on bottom and like rubber. The hotel receptionist was rushed of her feet and they could be doing with more staff. Christina was the nicest person and so friendly.

Very clean room,quiet. Helpful staff. Very adequate continental breakfast. Helensburgh has places worth visiting notably Hill House and the midget submarine museum.

Moved rooms 3 times because rooms were not fit for purpose. The first rooom had no water coming through the basin hot tap at all (and had a view over wasteland and derelict buildjngs). The second room sash window wouldn't close and the heating did not work, making the room freezing cold, and smelling greasy because the kitchen extractor fan was directly outside. The third room was a tiny twin (we had booked a double bed!) with a dreadful view of a drain pipe and metal trellis covered in fake greenery and false lawn. The shower tile grouting was filthy yellow.

Hotel is tatty from outside , blind dirty and broken. First impressions not great in that number on door was missing and superior room we were in looked out on a wall and nothing else . Photography of room was very creative as room was tiny but looked ok on website . Bathroom tiny and main complaint was no hot water for shower. The worst was yet to come as we paid for what looked like a proper cooked breakfast on your site . Apparently they have stopped doing cooked breakfast and now had a paltry looking buffet. Food looked inedible and so had to go somewhere else for breakfast . They need to update their website and you need to sell a product that is fit for purpose . We would like some money back as description on your site did not fit the reality .

The twin room that we stayed in needed maintaining in many areas, rusty bathroom bin and toilet brush holder, lots of black mould in the shower, taps loose and sink taking a long time to drain. We also felt that the see through glass door to the en-suite allowed no privacy. Live TV were pixelated luckily we could watch Wi-Fi channels. There also needs to be a second bedside lamp. The communal areas of the hotel could do with a really good clean and the breakfast was very basic.

Location was great, Room was dirty, the bathroom specifically with fresh mould growing in many areas of the shower and dirt , hair etc all around the toilet , room not hoovered during our stay, Was was very average and even had to return a salad because it had be served on the main plate which was very hot so salad was wilted and warm, when replaced the same salad had just been put on a cold plate. The bed was well overdue needing replacement.

Young girl at breakfast was new, and probably tried the hardest to please guests. Breakfast was toast and cereal with a little fruit salad. No view in the room but the hotel is right on the water, with free parking just a short walk away at the leisure centre. Didn’t have dinner at the hotel but by all accounts it is popular. Not really boutique!

Staff friendly and helpful room smallish but nice decor on suite superb everything very clean Breakfast chaos, cooked breakfast offered sausage that dident look cooked bacon, haggis and blackpudding that’s it no eggs continental option very sparse no decent cereal and no clean plates to put anything on seemed to be staff shortage ?

The room was super dirty and we had to ask them to change linen and vacuum. Still not clean. Lots of noise from the street and bar downstairs.

If you stay here ask for room 2, loch views, large room. Hotel is noisy but the beautiful room makes up for the noise. Bin men come at 6am on a Sunday and can hear the people above you all the time. Bathroom door is odd as can see your partner the whole time they are on the toilet. Room is clean and modern and very big.

We were lucky to visit Scotland when we were having lovely weather about 20 degrees. However our room was on the top floor which meant it was very hot. The window wouldn't open very wide due to the design and the curtains. There was a fan in the room but it was just blowing the hot air around. It would have been nice if the room was attempted to have been cooled prior to our arrival. We were also next to the laundry room and the washing machines were spinning at gone 22:30 at night making everything in the room shake. Appreciate this may be a one off occurrence but it did severely impact our stay especially as we were struggling to sleep in the heat anyway. I let the hotel know in the mornight, but didn't feel they were apologetic and just said it's unusual weather. If visiting in summer months it's worth bearing in mind.

Great shower. Good breakfast, fresh and varied. Clean. Friendly staff. Room very small, horrible outlook, no space for bags or surfaces for makeup or mirror near plug for hair drying.

This hotels investment in their social media campaign has paid off big time. While there are lots of Instagram opportunities, the actual stay was not impressive. The room was VERY very very small but also had ridiculously high ceilings so it was a strange optical illusion. The mattress was lumpy with some strange cover- I was going to look at what it consisted of but then thought I better not. The record players are decorative only. The windows must stay open because it’s very hot but then you hear the traffic signal blaring. Make sure you get down to breakfast early- they set out 4 slices of ham, 4 slices of cheese, a few pastries, and some cold boxes of cereal- if you’re not one of the lucky ones then there’s nothing left. We did not feel that our vehicle was safe as there is no parking lot. It was extremely disappointing.

Our stay was nice. Overall the staff seemed nice, approachable and polite. The food we had was dinner was very enjoyable and the portion sizes were large and reasonably priced with good selection. I stayed in a Superior Double room which was fine, it was a bed and a telly as expected - it was nice to see a coffee machine until i discovered it didn't work. The only thing i would mention is that you must be very comfortable with the person you are staying with as the bathroom door is only 70% frosted which was a tiny bit off putting. I would say the cost of the experience was a little high but by no means an unpleasant stay!

We stayed in a double room in which you could just about turn around in and couldn’t pass each other….. The bed wasn’t level as it was on an elevated slanted floor! Good it you have oedematous legs I guess, personally contributed to a poor sleep. On a positive, staff where lovely !

Booked a superior King room but unfortunately the room seemed like an average size with no view (there was a wall directly outside our window blocking sun/sky view). Apart from that the stay was great, the room was clean and the breakfast was nice with good selection of foods and drinks. Loved the later checkout time at 11AM. Hotel was very quiet and in an amazing location.

We spent 5 days at Riva . The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel if very easily accessible from the train station. If we were ever in Helensburgh again we would certainly stay Thanks to all the staff for their kindness

The hotel had a bad water leak when i returned at 10.30pm, with water running into bar and dining area. No ones fault at that stage but the way it was dealt with was dreadful. Staff did nothing to stop the leak, no one knew how to turn water off, and didnt have keys to access any possible areas. Fire Brigade came and turned water off, electrics and fire alarms compromised. The hotel was shut and everyone had to leave with nowhere else to go, this around 12.30 am, with all other local hotels in area full. Glasgow airport Holiday Inn nearest we could get in. So bit of a disaster handled very badly

That staff are fantastic, truly made the stay fantastic.

Poor Customer service, in the bedroom & bathroom things are broken and not working properly. Late night the hotels was audible because there was a pub next room near the reception. The breakfast was disappointing with no hot meals just continental breakfast. Lastly early check out of 10 am with no comprise and extra fee charged for later check out. Very disappointing stay 😟

PICK THE RIVA!! Wonderful staff, cute, comfortable, cozy rooms.

Excellent from start to end. Greeted warmly at check in and our dog Nova was also warmly welcomed. We were in room 1 and it is stunning. We loved the retro vibes and the sea view. My husband especially loved the working record player. Bathroom was beautiful and smelled divine thanks to the lovely toiletries. Love that they have used Scottish brands! Also had wee extras like a shaving kit and debtal kit. The power from the shower was fantastic. We had dinner here too and it was fab. The staff were super friendly and efficent. Food was lovely and well presented, I loved the plates. My salmon was slighly over done but it was still delicious and I beleive it was locally caught. Hubby said the steak pie was amazing, he also loved the mango and apple crumble. The bed, my goodness I wanted to take it home it was so comfortable! Breakfast is continental which I know isn't everyones cup of tea but was ideal for me. Bread, smoked cheese, tomatoes, fruit, yogurts, smoothies, pastries, juices, meat, soft cheese, cereals, tea and coffee. Ideal! All in all we had a lovely night and I'm only annoyed that I couldnt stay longer.

Fantastic stay. Staff were wonderful. Loved Christina. Everyone was super friendly. Breakfast was delicious. We had 2 dinners there- wonderful. Location was great.

I was in Helensburgh to attend my cousin's funeral. The hotel could not have been better. I only ate breakfast twice and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The hotel is centrally located and it was easy to get to anywhere I needed to be. All in all, a very good experience and I will recommend the hotel to my friends who might be visiting Scotland.

Very average hotel. We paid £100 for our room which was nice but a little tired. Probably worth no more than £70. The bathroom is a bit weird as it’s a glass partition. The shower area had a musty smell with black mold all around the silicone areas. The food bill for 2 mains and 2 desserts and 2 drinks came to £76 pounds . Pizza was lovely but sadly the bolognaise was poor. The mince was all clumped together in large lumps and it really lacked in any flavour. My tiramisu looked amazing but unfortunately lacking in flavour with the texture of an old piece of gum that had been chewed for too long. Went down for breakfast in the morning to be told no cooked breakfast but they might do it in the future. The continental breakfast consisted of a couple of different cereal, toast, tinned fruit cocktail, jam and tea and coffee. No cheese, ham or Croissants that normally come with continental breakfast. It’s a nice location and if you do decide to stay here I’d recommend eating out. The staff were pleasant enough.

Lovely interior. Staff friendly. Easy free parking opposite. There was no option to have a proper cooked breakfast though, and the lady working there had to go out and get extra food as the buffet ran out despite not many people staying

This hotel is cute, well located in downtown Helensburgh facing the Clyde. It's a "boutique" hotel so there's a lot of nice decoration items. The room itself is well decorated and there's even a vinyl record player with some vinyl discs. The bed in our double room was maybe a bit tiny but it's okay for 1 night. The front desk staff is nice. We had a reservation for the restaurant at 8:45pm but when we got there we were told that the kitchen closed at 8pm (it was Saturday night). Too bad, but there are other options to have dinner nearby. The breakfast was good though! We had a really nice price through hotels.com We definetly recommend Riva Hotel
