The lack of parking by the hotel

Amazing property right on the Rim Trail of the Grand Canyon. Comfortable beds, clean and tidy. Parking is difficult - no dedicated parking sports so you have to take your chances of finding a spot on the public roads along with the thousands of other visitors.

There are no ammenties on the property. And, no parking. Not so different than any other National Park property.

No staff available in this hotel. Need to check in a different place. Parking is a joke. Had to park half a mile away. They advertise for free parking is a scam. basically, the hotel doesn't have any designated parking of its own. Broken chair was a bonus. Expensive considering the condition.

Great location. Parking isn’t ideal but worth the hassle since it is within steps from the canyon rim. Everything you need amenity wise is close by either in the lodge or next door

Very good, but a bit dated building right on the canyon rim. Parking is a luck of the draw, lots of stairs in the building, so arrival and departure is a bit difficult as we had to carry our luggages a few flight of stairs to where we parked.

Parking terrible. Not enough

Surprised how outdated the thunderbird was, considering the price per night & according to notice on the door they command 500/night at some point. Absolutely not handicap or senior friendly. No elevators, numerous stair cases & most require a keycard to pass thru. No drop off parking so you can unload luggage. No microwave & frig did not have freezer section to refreeze ice packs. Expected more considering the room cost

The lodge was nice. Carpets smell old. Bed was not comfortable needs updated.

Room was comfortable and clean and had a view if the canyon.

Great location. I don’t think anyone has dusted in a long time. There was dust everywhere including the coffee pot.

Property was very clean and centrally located

The room was clean and comfortable. There were some leftovers from previous guests in the mini-fridge but not a big deal. The location is what it's all about. It's amazing to be able to look down into the Grand Canyon from your room. It was a blast to stay in the park. Depending on when you arrive, parking can be a bit tricky. We had to walk a little but it wasn't too bad.

The room was neat and clean, we didn't find much difficulty except for parking space. But I understand it would be difficult in a national park. I was luck that my room was in the first floor and I didn't need to carry my big suitcase in stairs. The room was large enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. We enjoyed the scenery around the area.

The first room we were given had vomit in the toilet. We went back to the front desk and the gave us another room. The second room had blood in the bed. We went back to the front desk for a third room. The third room was fine but having to go back a few times was not a great way to begin a stay. The hotel gave us a 50. dollar credit. Not satisfactory but better than nothing I guess.

We were comfortable in the room. A microwave would be a nice addition in the room or in the building.

First, this is a motel, not a lodge. And I’d rate it lower than most motels with a number between 5 and 7 for reasons the follow. Second, when we arrived, outside was about 78 degrees. When we opened the door to the room, the outside air rushed into the room. Inside, it was hot. The thermostat read 85 degrees. No idea why but we used to override and set it to 68, the minimum. We left to let the room cool despite being tired after driving from Phoenix. After a little more than hour, it was 75. We called the office and they agreed to send someone up while we went to the market for sundries. Another hour plus after waking the 1.5 miles back, it was still 75, maybe five degrees warmer than outside. We called again and we’re told to give it time. We left the windows and door open to cool the room but couldn’t get it below 73. Right before we left the next meeting, the vent started putting out cold air. No idea what happened but, for the rates this place charges, the a/c needs to work. Still, this is how Xterra works- fancy website, minor poorly installed cosmetic upgrades and boost the rates beyond reasonable. Yes, the location is amazing. But, where’s the fee going? Maybe they pay staff $100/hour. We will not return to this motel.

Parking was not easy. Walls were thin. Otherwise it was very convenient and clean! Worked out perfectly for 1 night in park.

The location of the property was fantastic! We were just steps away from the Grand Canyon and even had a great view from our room. The downside was the size of the room and that it was a little outdated. The shower was a challenge for my husband and daughter, who are tall. Otherwise, we enjoyed our time there.

Tiny room, terrible beds,worth every penny to be so close to the rim. One minute outside your door

Location is Incredible. The lodge is a minute walk from the edge of the canyon. Check-in is the lodge next door. I don't think they have an elevator. We were on the first floor. I don't know if the TV worked as we spent our time hiking. There is a free shuttle system that is a 2 minute walk from the door. The parking situation is first come, first serve and you might have a bit of a hike as parking is free and not registered. There is a small fridge in the room. The shower head is shorter than I'm accustomed to and the furnishings are sufficient, but definitely on the basic side.

Room was clean, but very run down. Bathroom was very rundown, toilet was wobbly and felt like it was about to fall off the wall, shower head was very low (I’m 5,4” and had to crouch a bit). Location was awesome and made it all worthwhile! We had a “partial view” and it was amazing!

we stayed only 2 days 2 nights. the property was right on the rim and that is the best thing I can say. we stayed on floor 1 and there was constant (and I mean constant) heavy walking upstairs, lots of noise outside window. Property WIFI was unusable because it would work and then it wouldnt, back and forth you never knew. had to rely on cell service which wasnt always strong. Sheets felt itchy. just overall uncomfortable. we had to leave property to access take out food in the evening.

Older place needing renovation but also kind of what you would expect. Perfectly ok though

Thunderbird Lodge is well situated on Grand Canyon South Rim. But I had a hard time to find its place to check in. Because it doesn’t have any lobby for check in. Instead the check in is at Bright Angel Lodge. I was told there was a sign. Unfortunately I didn’t see any notice on the building entrances in the dark night until I was informed by a passerby.

First of all I would like to say that check in at the lodge was great. Jeremiah helped us during check in and provided information regarding the Grand Canyon bus line and dining facilities. As far as the room goes, it was not great . Towels were old and dingy looking . We had two queen beds . One had hair on the sheets and the other had stains on the sheets. I was not thrilled with the cleanliness of the room. It was also dated which bothered me less than the sheets and towels not being decent. I felt like I was in a dorm . I will say this, it was nice staying in Grand Canyon village . Very convenient and easy to get around. I would have given this place 3 stars only but because customer service was great at the front desk I gave it 4 stars. We were going for more of the experience than the rooms.

Had a problem and called the front desk. The person said they would call back and never did. After 15 minutes we called again and she hung up on my husband. We called again and received the answer that she didn't know then click, hung up on again.

Thunderbird Lodge was the perfect location for our 3-night stay to visit the Grand Canyon. Our room was no more than 20 metres from the edge of the canyon itself and the South Rim Trail passes through the site of the village's main hotel / lodge area, so it's super easy to access the trail whenever you like. Staff were really friendly and we found the prices of food and gifts in the shops to be reasonable - especially given you're a captive audience!

Only downside was check in had no details of our reservation which was a little disconcerting. As we were from the UK we had no internet and the hotel couldn't provide this until check in so it wasn't easy to find a copy of our booking proof.

The property was amazing but the reservation staff at this place was horrendous we had to get to a manager and get room straightened out it took 45 minutes to check in

The staff was very welcoming and always went above and beyond to address any concerns or need, especially the front desk representative, Linda!

Check in was ridiculous. Everything else was fine. A message before checkin to let us know not to circle the property and go next door would have saved me an hour and lots of exercise lugging my luggage around.

This property is right on the rim within the park, on the south rim trail plus walkable to the visitor information center and other historic sites.

We stayed the night to get an early start in the Bright Angel Trail. The room was spacious clean and comfortable. The proximity to our hike was excellent. Good place great people.

The restaurants were surprising good and the service was excellent. We have stayed at a number of national parks and this would rate among the best with the food being the best.

You can\'t beat the location for this property. It doesn\'t have its own restaurant or lounge, which would be our only complaint, but it is right next door to two other lodges where you can get food and/or hang out. The view from our "partial view" room was great.

So convenient-walk outside and there is the canyon at any time of the day! Rooms were comfortable and shower had nice pressure and had a bar for safety. Could walk to restaurants. Very quiet. If you can, go the week after Thanksgiving-not many tourists!

Short staffed in restaurants with empty tables but 50 minutes wait

Parking was a challenge as we arrived late and having to check in at the Bright Angel lodge was inconvenient after having travelled most of the day. Room was clean and the location great to walk out and see the Grand Canyon on your doorstep though. No breakfast facilities meant finding somewhere else. We ate at the Bright Angel which did offer some great options, not included in the hotel price though.

Stuff in restaurant was unfriendly, clearly not expecting to see us again; and the food was terrible where ever we tried!!! No room service and the room was 740 for 2 nights! I can’t imagine what it would be like during high season

Nice place to stay at the incredible South Rim, though the hotel is a bit of the old style. Price is reasonable considering the stunning location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Historic lobby. Decent dining, though food was slightly expensive. I would return.

The hotel location is perfect!!!! Restraint is very good! The food and stuff!

It was old- but historical. Even though dated it was very clean and comfortable. You can’t beat the views. And the food at all the restaurants in the village were great!
