Marina Hotel

The property was in very poor condition. We were booked into the 3rd floor and the elevator was out of service, no one even asked if we needed assistance, one of us had a fractured arm and I have limited abilities due to a brain injury. There was no smoke detector, house phone, hair dryer, the chain lock was broken, the beds were not comfortable, the TV didn't work well, the picture was very faint. We only had one set of towels and not way to request more. There was no attendant in the hotel after 10 pm with only a phone # left for emergencies. Upon checkout someone came out but had cool reception. The hotel was overpriced for the overall condition and lack of amenities. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO EVEN MY WORST ENEMY.

Room was okay. Bed was alright, but pillows were horrible, had to go buy new ones. The pub attached to the hotel had great service and food. Walked around the area, not much to see.

Location is maybe not great if you want to walk to get to other amenities but the room was very clean, the kitchenette was really nice to have, dogs are allowed which is great, use of the laundry facilities was much appreciated and the roses outside each unit door were really lovely.

it was a bad choice. dirty. bad beds. no towels in bathroom. tv not working. restaurant closed on Monday along with most in town. no screens on windows so the bugs and rain gets in if you open them. ice maker and vending machines out of order.

Some kind of machinery below our room made a terrific noise exactly every 15 minutes all night long. Room was shabby, threadbare sheets, one lamp for the whole room, ridiculously small stained towels. It was gross. Staff was interesting the front desk person had on an orange hoodie with the hood over his head. Friendly enough but reception smelled bad, room smelled like the decades long smoking room it used to be. Our ‘view’ was over a trash filled junk yard. Do better people, you could make a fortune off tourism if you got your act together. The restaurant was amazing though. We are from Port Alberni and would be willing to try again if you can clean it up.

From the moment we arrived, everything went smoothly. Parking was straightforward, the check-in process didn’t drag, and we were in our room within minutes.

Everything is outdated: showers are leaking, bathtubs have no plugs, sinks are rusty with a lot of cracks. Rooms were dusty with filthy spots on TV and table. It was obviously overpriced. The only good thing was that this hotel accepted dogs, but it was quite unreasonable to pay $30.00 for a very clean,quiet, older dog.

I booked online w Expedia listed as a 3 Star. I would say Not. I will not comment on the staff as that was not important but I will describe my room. From the lobby I walked up the stairs on workout carpet, past and out of order vending machine, to my room. I opened the door and noticed the carpet was even worse inside my room. I glanced up at the ceiling & saw an outlet where the smoke alarm should have been plugged in but was missing, I spotted it upside-down on the dresser. The bed was old and hard & belonged in an army base but thankfully I didn't see any signs of bedbugs. Matress, sheets, pillows & blankets were all well used & all showed signs of age. Further inspection revealed the room had not been vacuumed in who knows how long, w pieces of molding missing. The bathroom was clean but Very worn out. Multiple attempts repairs to the toilet seat, sink & bathtub were evident by different coloured paint used on each repair. The light fixture was missing 1 of 4 bulbs, 1 other was burnt out leaving only 2. The bathroom fan was turned on but not really moving any air. Minifridge clicked loudly on/off all night. Single pain windows did little to mask the noise of water hitting metal in the dumping ground outside my window. It sounded like it was raining inside or that water was dripping inside the room. During my 3 day stay I saw zero evidence of anyone coming in for housekeeping. I can't see how this place could be any more than 1 star in its current condition. 100% Honest

The hotel was really old and had a strange smell throughout. Nothing terrible, but nothing nice either. The view in the back is a literal scrapyard, which doesn’t exactly add to the charm.

The place was extremely dirty. The room was not cleaned the bathroom had not been cleaned and the bedroom has dirty and hair on the floor. It’s a cheap place for one night but extremely dirty.

No ac and its hid beside the tv cabinet. No hot water, and the tub drain is plugged. No screen in the window and to lock it, it leaves a 2" opening. It has carpet and its very dirty. It looks like the last time it was renovated was back in the 80's

Room was dirty. Shower wasn’t working. Someone’s old dirty sock was on the floor. Holes in the ceiling in the bathroom. Electrical tape used to keep sink from leaking. Pointed out the issue with the shower and response was that they would have someone come and fix it at 10 pm while we stayed in the room. We insisted on a new room and the first 3 had the same shower issue. 4th room shower worked. All rooms are in the same condition. Fridge in both rooms were dirty. A/c installation is sketchy. Small metal fragments were in the bedding in both rooms.

The staff were kind and easy to talk to, and the whole place — from the hallway to the room — was spotless. Really appreciated the care they put into keeping it clean.

I stay at lots of hotels all around northern/southern BC , Alberta , Saskatchewan, and Manitoba for work and just my own traveling experience. This hotel is by far one of the worst ones I’ve been at , I wish I read some of the reviews before dropping in . The first night I came back on a Friday night and the front door was locked and you are not given a scan card or nothing to get back in . It does say the door is locked after 11 but in a Friday night seems a little crazy especially when visiting a town . I ended up sleeping in my truck that night cause I couldn’t get in . The next day the water was out and the day before I had no hot water . The rooms themselves are fine if you don’t look too hard at the carpet and the walls which could use a good cleaning . I would not recommend staying here if you are coming to port alberni especially if you are going out at night cause then you will not be able to get back into the hotel .

Doesn't matter what time of day tried to shower no hot wster. Noisy could here every step up and down stairs aswell as elevator. Bucksnort pub was great food however and service was excellent.

Room was basically clean. The very old small air conditioner didn’t work. Other rooms were looked at and the the same shoddy old Window small units. The staff guy was friendly but hardly spoke English that was understandable. Don’t stay here. Just horrible experience.

I surprisingly slept well for how thin the walls were. Other guests were respectful. It is a very convenient location and a good price for a nightly accommodation. The linens seemed fresh. But I will share that the room had stained towels, no extra toilet paper, there was bird excrement all over the exterior window, no fan in the bathroom for moisture, and the front desk lacked any customer service or sense of friendliness. A smile really would make a different impression with customers. Only okay for a one night stop if there is nowhere else to stay.

Our room looked over a junkyard. Very, very old establishment. Rugs, room furniture, our tv was basically on the floor. Beds were comfortable.

There was no hot water as there was a problem that hadn't been fixed for a week. We were only told the day of check in so.it was too late to find something else. Alao the hotel did not look like the pictures building was old and rundown. Other than that it was clean and had everything in the room

Nice service.

This property is old and hotel from the 80’s. Lobby closes at 10 pm and does not open in the morning. If get out of the lobby you will be lock out and you will not get. You have to make several calls to get in. Our first room was hot due to defective window AC so we have to move to another room. We cut short our stay from three nights to two nights instead.

The front desk gave great tips on where to eat nearby — all walking distance. Super convenient if you’re new to town and don’t need to drive everywhere.

Quite run down and the staff at check were not helpful. Two beds in the room. One very saggy and the other was hard as a rock. Shower head was very low and my husband was taller than the level. Coffee make took “forever” to brew a pot. One thing that was was very good was the the quality of the towels - very soft!

They kept up dirty towels.. there was a leak in the room.. beds were uncomfortable. Says the doors will be locked at 10PM, we get back at about 9:50 and the doors are already locked. Before us there was another couple waiting to get back inside. We called so many times, they weren’t answering

This used to be a lovely accommodation. It is disgusting now. Got locked out every time I went out the front doors as they have no staff at the desk in the evening/night/morning.

Tucked in a convenient spot near all kinds of food and shops, the hotel still felt quiet and restful. We had no trouble getting a good night’s sleep and waking up refreshed.

This property is less than one kilometre from a boat launch, food trucks or if you just walk an additional 500m there are many dining options.

This was a nice, quiet, comfortable place to stay on our roadtrip to Tofino. After a few unpleasant nights in Duncan, thia was a huge step for a much better price. Will ve stating here again.

It’s nice to have shops and restaurants nearby without sacrificing peace and quiet. We had everything we needed close by, but the room stayed calm and undisturbed through the night.

Fantastic. You can literally walk out and hit three types of cuisine within few minutes — buffet, BBQ, and a bakery. And the lobby design makes it easy to come and go quickly, which I really appreciated.
