Hlid Fisherman's Village

Nice unique setting just west of the city. Easy to find. Frictionless check in. Had details to go straight to the cabin. Great hot tubs. Sauna was confusing and didnt seem to work. Couldnt figure out TV. Made iceland feel more iceland than a regular hotel and room.

This was my second stay at the Fishermans Village after staying last year too. Experience was again great, the parking was easy and it was nice and quiet around the premise. Easy access to the surrounding water with the views being brilliant, particularly at sunrise and sunset! Álftanes is a great place to stay if you have a car and aim to travel around the west of Iceland.

The location in terms of view was epic. Otherwise, the accommodations were quaint looking and clean, but there is no restaurant (which is in the description), and the hot tubs were not usable (one was out of order. The other was only heated to luke warm). There was no one on site for any issues. The view is what makes the stay.

It was a lovely place, quirky and the theme was well done. There are two hot tubs and a small sauna. These are raised with great views of the sky. It was very warm!

Cabins are kept very clean and daily tidies. Parking is safe and close by.

We loved our stay. It was nice to be out of town and in such a quiet setting following a long overnight flight. The hot tubs and sauna were super relaxing.

This was an adequate stay for what we needed but some maintenance upkeep is lacking as doors/locks did not work well, blinds were missing some panels (in the bathroom where privacy is needed) etc.

The location is brilliant and the hotel-village is very pretty. We stayed two nights either end of the trip, and I cannot fault the first night at all, everything was super, apart from the electric kettle that we had to clean as someone must have tried cooking something in it and burned it. For the second night despite our specific request our cottage was changed from the sea facing one to an inner-yard one with a lot of light pollution from a glaring projector and non-working restaurant that remains bright through the night, also very little privacy. But the worst surprise was the bed linen - they forgot to change it from previous guests, so there were breadcrumbs and hair etc. When we reported the issue, we did not get any reply, not even an apology. I did not want to write this review as one-off mistakes can happen, but not getting an apology hinted that the issue could be more systemic. Hopefully they take note, the place could be good value for money when travelling with kids, but do check your bedding and other things while it is still working hours to avoid the yak feeling of having been in a stranger's bed....

We stayed in this hotel for eight days and the floor was never cleaned. We had sand and dust all over the floor. Other than that the hotel was wonderful.

Cabin was neat but not super clean (dusty chairs, etc). Parking was easy. Using the amenities at the property was easy, and the hot tubs and sauna were well-maintained. Water at the property smelled strongly of sulfur. Overall, loved staying here and would still recommend it. But expect that the amenities and view are the highlight of the property rather than the room.

FLIES FLIES AND MORE FLIES!! Got into the room to find well over 100 flies on the windows!! There was also lots of dead flies behind the blinds. DISGUSTING!! 2 of the windows at the top of the room also do not have blinds so its BRIGHT all night!!

I’m not sure where the negative reviews come from for this place. It was incredible! Easy to find, beautiful views, friendly staff, ridiculously clean.

Wirklich eine sehr schöne Unterkunft. Uns hat besonders gut die Lage gefallen. Ein Mietwagen ist dort ein Muss! Die Sauna und der Pool waren von 16-22 Uhr zugänglich. Es war sehr erholsam. Wir haben täglich neue Handtücher bekommen. Wir hätten uns nur gewünscht, dass einmal am Tag das Zimmer kurz gekehrt oder durch gesaugt wird. Durch unsere Aktivitäten haben wir Dreck mit reingebracht, auch wenn wir unsere Schuhe und Klamotten vorne an der Tür ausgezogen haben. Oder einen Besen im Zimmer, dass wir hätten selber kehren können. Außerdem waren die letzten zwei Nächte bei uns eine vermutlich Schulklasse untergebracht. Die waren manchmal recht laut.

We just finished a wonderful trip in Iceland. Most accommodations were great. Not this one. I was not expecting anything fancy, but expected comfortable and functional. The common areas of the property are rundown and quite ugly. The room is super small. Room has lot os broken/lose items. Room is built in such a way that the one way we can have some privacy is by closing all the curtains. And the taller windows have no curtains. So, sunlight comes in all the way. During Icelandic summer, that means nearly 24 hours per day. Small detail - the shampoo dispenser was empty. I message the property (as they do not have anyone at the location) asking them to refill them. 48 hours, we checked out, and I did not even get a response. I know... it's just shampoo, but it clearly reflects the state of the property.

Worst hotel we stayed at in Iceland. Room was dirty on arrival with long black hair in the shower as well as no body wash or shampoo. Bed sheets had holes in them. The next day, we wanted housekeeping to make up our rooms, apparently that only meant making the bed. Garbage was no emptied, towels were not replaced, still no body wash or shampoo, dirty glasses were not exchanged for clean ones as well as the complimentary coffee and tea were not replenished either. Do your selves a favor and skip on staying here!

Beautiful!! Right on the coast. Hot tub. Easy checkin and checkout. However, weren’t given the room we expected and the A-frames make the loft extremely hot (in the summer) and uncomfortable

The room was very clean and put together very well, plenty of room. The property was awesome. The only negatives were the matress it was not comfortable and the TV only had two choices of channels.

Very large room with breathtaking views. The drive away from the city is well worth the stay. Unique property with stunning Northern Light views both nights we stayed. Amazing!

Great location a little way out of the city, beautiful view of the beach. Bed was comfy and room amenities were fine. However, the parking fills up fast (not designated by room number), we came home one night to find the spot outside our room was taken and the rest of the carpark full so we parked outside near the restaurant. Not a huge deal, but may be important to note if you have accessibility needs. Also, the walls are thin and people are loud, especially if your room is underneath the hot tub area. Footsteps above are thunderous, avoid if you're a light sleeper or bring some quality ear plugs.

We had a large 1 bedroom. Front door and back door. It had a nice updated bathroom with a large shower. The living room was furnished with a sofa and chair. Also a small refrigerator. There's a hairdyer, kettle and toiletries. It is approx. 15 minutes from Reykjavik. Out on a point with ocean views surrounding the place. Even dark enough to see the northern lights. I can't say enough. We loved it!

Huge rooms, really cool spot to stay and hang out. We could hear the group of teenagers staying in the room next to us, but it didn’t bother us at all since we were so tired lol Hot tubs and sauna on a roof of one of the buildings which was cool too. Huge room which would be perfect for kids!

Quiet, beautiful views. clean rooms outside city but close enough to get there quickly. Only minor feedback, make sure to bring your sleeping masks in the summer. Windows above doors don’t have shades so rooms stay light. Outside that great place, would recommend and stay again.

This property is all about the location. If you want a remote feeling near the ocean, it's fantastic for that. There really isn't anyone on the property to ask questions to (at least that we found). The rooms are not sound proof, so hopefully you're neighbor is quiet, but we could hear furniture being moved and footsteps. There is a small fridge in the room and an electric kettle, but no access to a kitchen or microwave. There's heat, but no A/C (which is normal for Iceland, but the windows barely open, so we had to prop open the door to the room each night to get any decent cooling. A floor fan would have been nice to move air. We had a south facing room, so maybe other rooms were cooler. It's a unique place to stay and we enjoyed it. We went into town for breakfast and coffee each morning.

Nice property- strange bathroom with no shower curtain or shower door so water got all over the bathroom kind of dangerous. Overall though beautiful view, comfortable room

Location was beautiful but there's no restaurants or food for like 10 minutes. Check in also wasn't convenient - door wasn't unlocked as the email said it would be and took two calls to get someone over to let me in. Shower kept going super hot and then would cool off again.

ATTENTION : Dishonest hotel The check-in is at 3 PM and there is no reception on site. I go to the allocated room and when I enter, it seems busy. I take photos of the room and write to the accommodation manager to ask him if it’s normal. I wait 30 minutes in my car and no response, neither by phone nor by email. I communicate with an Expedia agent to explain it to him. He also tries to communicate with them a few times and no response. After all this time, I mention to Expedia that I am going to rent elsewhere (I have to drop off before the flight tomorrow!) and they tell me that they will contact them for a refund. Two hours and 15 later, at 5:15 PM, someone tells me that my room is ready. I explain to him that in the absence of a response after a long delay, I rented elsewhere and that I want to be refunded. Unfortunately, according to their policy, they do not refund. They offer me a 30% at one of their restaurant. They also refuse the refund to the Expedia agent. I would not have canceled if the room had been ready and/or someone had notified me and/or someone had responded to me more quickly than within 2 hours. Of all the accommodations I rented during the 14 days of the trip, this is the only one that was dishonest and execrable. The manager never replied to anything else. They apply their policy when it is advantageous for them (refund) but do not apply it to the client (room ready at the scheduled time or at least communicate with the client). The worst hotel ever

The Fisherman’s Village was amazing. The staff are incredible and the views are immaculate. We stayed Nov 6-11 and saw the northern lights 3 out of 4 nights. Rooms were so warm, and the staff kept the grounds clean and comfortable while also staying in the background and allowing us the privacy we want on vacation. Seriously an amazing place, and if I were to come back to this area of Iceland there would be no question as to where I would stay.

We had a great stay at the Fisherman’s Village! We stayed in November 2024 for 4 nights and we were able to see the Northern Lights almost every evening after returning from excursions. Check-in was done through the Viking Hotel and was quick and easy. Accommodations were great and we all had a fantastic stay. We loved that the village was out of the city and quiet. Beautiful water views!

Property was really cute and well kept. Room was clean and had everything we needed, as well as a beautiful view of the ocean. We were happy to have the hot tubs and sauna available after a long road trip around the Ring Road. Only issue was check in: this is completed at another property 15-20 minutes away. Apparently an email was supposed to be sent out with our room number, but this was never sent. Made our way to the Fisherman’s Village after 6 hours of driving, only to turn around and drive to the other location. Having zero staff on site makes it a bit difficult as well if you need anything. Once checked in and situated, everything was great.

The room was very clean… STAFF WERE AWESOME!!! Didn’t expect the snowstorm but the property staff was very accommodating. They gave us dinner when no one would deliver! Knocked on our door to notify us to witness a ones in a lifetime Northern Lights experience! Helped us clean our snow covered Rent a car! Plowed a pathway to get us out … The whole experience was unforgettable! So what really stood out was that the staff and property management made sure that they are there willingly to assist us in any way to make us feel at home away from home!!! Thank you guys!!💚💚💚

They didn’t inform me that the hotel was overbooked, so we couldn’t stay there as planned. I only found out when I reached out to ask about check-in. They offered us a room at another property they manage, called Hotel Viking, which is an outdated, older hotel.

If you want to see the northern light, this hotel is great for you. But do not expect any service. The safe did not work, they said they would come, but nobody came. We did not know how to lock the door, called and nobody came after two international calls. The worst thing is in the mid-night, someone used their key to open our room and insisted he had this room. It is so scary.

We had a nice and peaceful stay at the Fisherman’s Village. It’s a great no-frills option for those looking to stay outside of Reykjavík, with beautiful views and a quiet, scenic setting that felt like a refreshing escape from the city. That said, communication with reception could have been better—they’re not located on-site, which made it a bit harder to get assistance when needed. Still, the overall experience was positive, and the location makes it a solid choice for travelers looking for a quiet stop with great natural surroundings.

Wonderful quaint place on the water. Beautiful rooms. It wasn’t clear to me that there are no staff on site and you are supposed to receive a message with your room details for self check-in. Was frustrating to have to drive back to town just to find out what room was assigned to us. If we didn’t have a rental car, it would have been a disaster. The accommodations, scenery, horses and hot tub/sauna were fabulous though.

I have to give this place a bad rating just to get the attention of the management. We arrived to this place being deserted around 3 and no way to check into the room. When we read our instructions of Expedia we had to to a half hour round trip to another hotel reception to get the keys. Surely you guys have heard of lockboxes or maybe give instructions with pin code to the door. So lucky we had our own car to drive there. Imagine how bad it would be if you arrived with a taxi and your luggage. The rest of the place was quirky but ok. You need to do better here

Amazing place about 15 minutes outside Reykjavik. Super convenient, beautiful landscape.

Close to Reykjavik and beautiful location

You definitely need a car to stay at this property as it’s about 25 min drive from central Reykjavik and yet this is a great place if you are looking for something quiet and relaxing. You’ll have a wonderful ocean view from the property and it’s so serene. I wish the room had a little kitchen so we could cook. Things in Iceland is very expensive. If you want to save money by cooking in your property then this is not a place for you as each room only has an electric kettle and a mini fridge (not even a microwave.)

Quiet location, very scenic.

Amazing location outside the city but just a short drive away. Plenty of parking and near a nice neighborhood to walk or run in. Room was nice and staff changed sheets, towels, and coffee supplies daily. My only complaint is the hot tub and sauna being on the roof of some of the rooms (including mine) made for a little noise.

This was such a unique hotel and is located in such a beautiful location, at the edge of Reykjavik. It was cloudy during my time there, but I can only imagine how beautiful it must be with the Northern Lights.

This is a unique, out-of-the way property that offers unparalleled views of the open Atlantic and sunset. The rooms are charming, and the property is unique and beautiful. Just be aware that the restaurant is open only on weekends and that there is no coffee or breakfast on the property. As such, you need to plan ahead and bring groceries. And you definitely need a car.

This is my second visit to the property. Beautifully located with amazing views. Quiet but only 10-15 min drive to the city. Rooms are spacious . Rooms are accessible with small ramp with parking spots close to the room, good for those with mobility issues . Suana and hot tubs available for end of the day winding down . No restaurant on site but restaurants and grocery stores within a few minute drive. Plenty of parking . Bed is comfy , fridge with tea kettle in room. Bathrobes available for use as well. Great spot if you have a car and want to explore beyond Reykjavik

Gorgeous location right on the ocean. It was very charming. We enjoyed the SPA. However far from any restaurants and there was no food for purchase at the place.

Absolutely perfect place ! Close to the city but very quiet. Clean and very comfortable. Hot tubs and sauna perfect! And we saw the lights over the sea ! Just loved it! Breakfast is at hotel Viking 10in away but clearly stated on site, we just took our own food for that will stay again !

We stayed here one night and the room was quite comfortable. The dinner buffet was wonderful with many options to choose from. We had pan fried fish, fish ceviche, lamb meatballs, Swedish meatballs, roasted potatoes, roasted root veggies, Greek salad and green salad, and more to choose from. The bread is a must! Desserts were cheesecake and brownies. There are no other restaurants in the area and so it was wonderful to have a lot of options to choose from. Breakfast the next morning had quite a few options as well.

Beautiful area and wonderful accommodation. The only missing point was that there was no kitchen amenities and not close dining options. Overall recommend this place!
