Certosa di Pontignano Residenza d'Epoca - Place of Charme

This is a beautiful, peaceful place to stay in Tuscany. The rooms are spacious, and ours overlooked the gardens. The furniture in our room was all antique, so the chairs weren’t very comfortable, but out on the balconies there are much comfier places to sit during the day. The gardens are great to explore and the balconies are perfect to spend a morning reading. The restaurant is delicious, we ate there three out of four nights on our honeymoon. Staff were friendly and helpful in booking us an excursion. We rented an electric car and they had two electric charging stations about a 2 minute walk down the road with a lot of free parking. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to a central base for day trips out to the cities in Tuscany, or for anyone who wants a magical stay in the country.

Das Hotel ist sehr schön in einem alten Kloster gelegen, das Abendessen und das Frühstück waren hervorragend. Gut gefallen haben uns auch die kostenlosen Parkmöglichkeiten und die Nähe zu Siena. Man braucht allerdings ein Auto. Weniger glücklich waren wir mit dem Zimmer selbst. Es war als Doppelzimmer ausgewiesen, entsprach von der Größe des Raums und des Betts her eher einem Einzelzimmer. Extrem klein war auch das Bad. Außerdem war das Zimmer sehr hellhörig, und da in den Nachbarzimmern eine Reisegruppe untergebracht war, war es sehr laut, auch schon vor 8 Uhr, als die Nachbarzimmer laut gereinigt wurden.

Very cool property. The grounds are stunning and the dining was great. We did not have WiFi in our room unfortunately since it was broken and they were not able to fix it. They have e bikes on the property available to rent which was a great way to see the vineyards. Overall we had a very nice stay!

The staff was very helpful and friendly. The property shows it's age but has lots of charm. After all it is a very historic building. Make sure you take the tour on weekends. The Chapel is must see. Absolutely unexpectedly beautiful. Paintings as good as in any Cathedral and there you are by yourself in this exquisite chapel. The property is just a few minutes outside of Sienna in a very quiet location amongst olive trees. The food in the dining room is excellent. Beyond expectations. Excellent wines of the region available. Unfortunately the bar which has a different menu was always closed while we were there. Not many other dining options near by. About 10 to 15 min. drive. The breakfast has many options and is exactly the same every day. The quality could be a little better. Overall very pleasant stay and we would do it again.

We thoroughly enjoyed having a modest room (clean, modern, simple) and then walking through the spacious buildings, grounds, olive groves and nearby vineyards. It was such a pleasant exploring adventure that we extended a couple extra days and used the property as a delightful hone base each evening. We highly recommend this hotel and hope to be back again next year!!

This BEAUTIFUL location in Tuscany is wonderful! I wish we had had time to stay longer! We ate in the courtyard for dinner and loved the restaurant as well. Convenient parking, breakfast and wifi included. This place is terrific!

What a gem! We were blown away by the grounds and facilities at this stay. Dinner was fabulous, the bar was making delicious craft cocktails, and breakfast had so many options everyone could find something wonderful. We stumbled upon a billiard room our last night there while wandering around the cloisters, and found it so charming. Beds were not the greatest, shower was small and leaky, but I would absolutely stay here again!

Very quiet and in a lovely setting of an old Monastery. Limited facilities once you are there, but the bar and wine choices were good. Food was ok.

Wonderful quiet atmosphere. Beautiful Chapel, gardens and surrounding views. Restaurant cuisine is below average for quality vs price. Apartment needs some small fixings and detail to cleaning. Overall, a good place to stay.

Struttura storica , nel complesso Tutto bene , pulizia si può migliorare , stanze obsolete tinteggiate male (forse non possono ristrutturarle come si deve a casa della storicità del luogo ) comunque .. tutto ok .

Even though nit accessible by public transit, this was a beautiful property located in a quiet and peaceful area. The property itself is a destination worth visiting with historic significance. Clean property and friendly staff. Good breakfast is provided. Good value for money.

Beautiful and authentic building amidst an impressive piece of nature. Very serene atmosphere with good amenities. The downside for us was that after the friendly check-in at reception, the rest of the staff we encountered at the bar and restaurant was disorganized and gave the impression that they did not care much. Food quality was ok at best, the wine was warm, food was served with disinterest, getting the attention from a waiter was a real challenge, etc. … For this upmarket, high-end place this should really not be the case. We felt we should have gone to the osteria in the village instead. Also, the shower had a bad case of black fungus … again, something that should not be the case in a place like this. Breakfast was great. In the end we left with the feeling that the setting was a unique experience but that the overall experience could have been much better. We reported this to the front desk. She received our feedback with a smile but if there was any kind of empathy or feeling of urgency to improve it did not show.

Lovely rustic old monestry now a hotel. Beautiful transformed and has kept it's rustic character & charm. On site restaurant was very nice too. Stayed in a junior suite which had plenty of space and was very clean. Highly recommended.

En fantastisk upplevelse att bo på ett stort fd kloster på kullarna utanför Siena. Vi blev så väl mottagna i receptionen efter att ha parkerat bland olivträd, av två vänliga tjejer. När man sen öppna grinden in på klostergården...Och rummen var fräscha, enkla med den service man behövde som speglar att det varit ett kloster. Trädgården och vyerna var fantastisk. Verandan, baren, restaurangen och frukostrummet var också perfekta, likaså personalen. Kul att denna plats drivs av universitetet. Vi kommer tillbaka

This property was incredible. I believe it is a converted monastery. This is perfect if you would like a bed and breakfast with charm, out in the Tuscan countryside. It was exactly what we had hoped for and more. It is located on a hill overlooking Siena, about a 15 min drive from the city. The hotel is surrounded by wine vineyards and olive tree groves on all sides including on the way up the property. The property itself makes its own wine, olive oil and honey. The rooms were charming and felt like they were a few hundred years old. You trade luxury for authenticity at this hotel, such for us was well with it. We stayed in a 3 bedroom. It does only have one bathroom to share. It had a kitchen with the essentials, including a cooktop, dishes, and a refrigerator. We did cook simple food in the kitchen with pots and pans. There were old steep stairs inside the apartment to reach the 2nd level where we had 2 of the 3 bedrooms. The view from the balcony was beautiful. They have a restaurant on site which was great. We are there one night. Their olive oil was the best I’ve even tried. The included breakfast was incredible. It has so much variety including pastries of every kind, pancakes, eggs, bacon, yogurt, fresh fruit, juices, local meats and cheese, breads, cold cereal and milk, etc. It has something for everyone. It’s was the best breakfast we had during our 2 week European trip. The property itself has an Italian garden, beautiful spacious grounds, and chapel with frescoes

L’albergo è spettacolare, la stanza bellissima, la vista incantevole, la colazione buonissima con tanti prodotti di alta qualità e anche il loro miele, sembra che ero in una favola. È stato magico caminare nelle mattine per la struttura, la cappella, il giardino molto bello! L’unica sconvenienza è che la nostra stanza 401 era affianco a una sala dello staff dell’albergo e parlavano a voce molto alta con la porta aperta, ci hanno svegliato tutti i giorni presto. Sarebbe meglio anche se i cani dei clienti non ci fossero nella sala della colazione. Ma è un dettaglio, l’albergo è bellissimo, consiglio prendere la camera superiore, vorrei tornare!

La proprietà e’ incantevole ma siamo capitati i una delle celle. Non c era aria condizionata e faceva un caldo terribile. Assicuratevi di prenotare le camere con aria condizionata d’ estate

Simply fantastic! We found this converted monastery by accident. The building is beautiful, as are the gardens and surroundings. Very tranquil and peaceful. We had dinner at the restaurant, and it was excellent. The breakfast was one of the best I have eaten! Special mention to the "savory monk's cake" - delicious! My only small complaint is that the rooms are not exactly soundproof. But I can live with that, the rest is just wonderful.

Beautiful grounds and great breakfast spread. The catch is that their apartments (monks cells) do not have AC, and windows are small and have no mosquito nets. Could not sleep the first night, we switched and got two separate double rooms with AC by paying almost double, but we were comfortable. Something you should be aware if you travel at the peak of summer. The area around the property is scenic, among vineyards and orchards, but the drive through the periphery of Siena is pretty ugly, before reaching the historical center which is breathtaking with easily one of the most beautiful piazzas (del Canpo) in the whole Italy. The bar is convenient but I recommend the restaurants on the Main Street before turning towards Pontignano (La Botte di Chianti in Ponte a Bozzone, inexpensive and good food).

Great stay in late November. Views are breathtaking. Unusual rooms with a lot of history. Good breakfast. Dinner is rather on a high price end $250.00 for four. Be aware to use hot water wisely. It can end unexpectedly, and you will have to wait for 30 minutes for the heater to heat it up. Nice and helpful stuff. I would definitely come back and recommend to my friends.

We had the most amazing stay, the staff were fantastic with our little one and the grounds were beautiful. This was such an amazing find and we hope to return in the future. Not too far from Siena if you have a car. Food was amazing - dinner and breakfast were both great. Would 100% recommend.

Staff was very proficient in English for the most part, with excellent communication and professional in service through and through. Restaurant on site was elegant with good variety of menu items, though a little pricey as expected. Quality of food was above average but not excellent as expected. Drive to this monastery was fairly easy with surrounding village somewhat accommodating in amenities and conveniences. Keep in mind you would need a car throughout your stay here. Siena is 10 minutes away by car, a must see for at least one day.

We enjoyed 4 wonderful days and loved every minute. The staff was kind, friendly, helpful, and made our stay very pleasant. Initially we had only booked 3 nights but loved it so much that decided to add one more night. The location also allowed us to visit other parts of the region like Pisa, Florence, and Siena. Having breakfast included and on site parking was the icing on this stay!!

Chegamos no hotel e para nossa surpresa não tinha luz. Foi proposto para irmos a outro hotel, mas decidimos ficar. A luz retornou umas 10 da noite. O hotel é maravilhoso. Lugar lindo que voltaria com certeza para ficar mais dias!

This was a great place. The place is well thought through and has a great vibe to it. It's a very good mix of ancient and modern part brought together. The walk across both the courtyards is calming. The chapel is peaceful. We got to stay both in the old and the new parts. The old part is good and will be great in good weather with a good group. The staff are really amazing and understanding. With our little one , they were very accommodating - esp the restaurant staff. We will go back in cooler weather once again

O hotel deixou a desejar no check-in, mas depois tudo correu perfeitamente bem, tanto o café da manhã quanto as demais interações com o staff. O hotel é lindo, numa localização excelente e o restaurante é sensacional! A capela é magnífica, precisa ser visitada por todos!

Unfortunately this was not a good experience, check in was slow I booked 3 rooms for the whole family. You have to haul away luggage’s far from reception on very uneven ground Terrible experience at restaurant, forgot ordered dishes and ride when asked, overcharged Breakfast was nice and grounds are very interesting and nice but service is really subpar which makes it for poor experience Rooms close to reception are noisy as you hear delivery starting at 5 am Better in the cloister

Great service, comfortable room, the breakfast buffet is really good, and the onsite restaurant is superb! The location is a bit isolated but after all it used to be a monastery, the building is beautiful! I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Chianti area!!!!!!!

Staying here was a highlight of our entire trip. The property was so historic and so beautiful and serene. The chapel frescos resembled those of the Sistine Chapel. Breakfast was bountiful and the staff was charming. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. It was a privilege to be a guest here. The property was 3 km from Siena, nestled between vineyards and rolling hills. You definitely need a car to tour the area.

We were thankful to have found this Tuscan gem on our recent trip to Siena. It wasn’t that far out of the city and the short drive was well worth it. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing - much more than a typical Italian breakfast. We enjoyed walking through the garden in the morning before departure.

The setting and building was beautiful. The apartment room has some quirks, but that gave it charm. The bar and restaurant were great and reasonably priced.

The full-service restaurant was great (although pricey) with excellent attentive staff. However, the bar/cafe/grocery was even better. Paola was a wonderful server/conversationalist/all-around great guy. We had very good food available there in a limited menu at reasonable prices with great conversation. The front desk staff was very helpful with maps and suggestions of driving tours we could take advantage of, which we did.
