Lovely hotel. For those attending a wedding in the area - Lunch/Room service food is not available untill 12.30 and early check-in is at 12. Great breakfast, relaxing sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and pool, great staff, bar and very nice outdoor seating to relax in the sun.

Beautiful property and rooms. Dining options were not as advertised (only 1 open) but we travelled into town and found some good options. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pool facilities were nice.

We enjoyed our stay, but unfortunately we had 2 dogs outside our bedroom window barking in the evening and again in the morning. There were no rooms available that we could move to, so had to put up with it. Staff did try to find the owners and speak with them. Unfortunately, the coffee had run out in the bedroom, only one biscuit and no drinking water in our room, The spa pool is tired but still enjoyable. We missed being able to sit/lie in the pool area, but I suppose there’s not much space for chairs by the pool. We were disappointed hardly any drinks available beside the pool, also warm to drink. Breakfast was amazing!! We enjoyed a game of draughts, and the hotel itself is beautiful! Just such a shame we had such a noisy room.

Had a lovely overnight stay with my partner. Grounds are beautiful and decor is lovely. I upgraded our room to a superior one but it looked out onto a wall which was a bit of a shame. I think the pool and spa facilities could be upgraded, I'd also seen the photo of the outdoor jacuzzi and was really excited to use it but was told you had to pay extra for it which was a bit of shame. Really liked the bar area and staff were very good.

Staff v friendly and efficient. Dinner and breakfast perfect. It was lovely to use the dining room and drawing rooms with the log fires mid week. The swimming pool and spa an added bonus. The fifth star might have been earned if the bathroom black damp on the window had been better sorted?

Our room was rather dirty with mold and dust everywhere. The bed was lumpy. The fixtures on the wall were old and falling apart.The light in the bathroom leaked water all night and day. There were no measures taken too sound proof any part of the room. I heard everything our fellow guests were doing the entire trip - doors banging, people arguing ect. . Resulting in bad sleep. The two TV didn't work and neither did the remotes. You have to book for a swim and use of the facilities. Quite odd. Also we were charged twice for our stay. The grounds were beautiful and the staff were lovely and friendly. The woman behind the desk in particular was very nice and she made our trip. We liked that the hotel was dog friendly. The breakfast was nice. Would we be back, no however I can see why it might appeal to some.

Sadly, this property needs a complete renovation especially the room we were given 111 !! Firstly a very uncomfortable sprung mattress which was moving everytime I turned so one hours sleep in total!, secondly creaking floorboards in the floor above as well as ours and in the corridor where people were banging doors into the small hours!! Finally at 6.30 am I had to wake my husband as the filthy head board was severely tipping towards our heads.. a tragedy waiting to happen…. The utter disgrace was the mess behind the headboard of years of congealed dust!! Scottish hospitality at its worst!! It could be a fabulous place if someone just stepped it up a gear Definitely NOT 4* not even 2 !! Breakfast was really lacklustre with soggy toast, not freshly baked pastries as advertised The manager Gwen wanted to refund our stay saying it was all totally unacceptable but couldn’t as I had booked through Expedia. Expedia please help with this!!

Hotel has some beautiful common areas including a lovely bar with open fireplace that crated a lovely and sociable atmosphere. The snooker room is a bonus also but was always occupied during our stay. The room was disappointing however. The bed was really small and very uncomfortable and the room far smaller than it looks on the pictures. There was a lovely selection of teas and coffees but the mugs weren't clean and dusty both inside and out. The fire alarm went off at 2.30am during our stay also - obviously not the hotel's fault though so no blame cast there.

On arrival reception confirmed that the stay had been paid however when checking out we were given a bill and told the full cost was outstanding. We did dispute this and have records to show payment but ended up having to pay again. We will now have to wait for a refund through no fault of our own. This was a system error and have to say staff were not rude or difficult. The room was fine in that it had all amenities needed but it was stifling hot, made worse by the small size. Each time we entered the room, there was also a smell of damp. We ate at the hotel and the food was delicious. The grounds were lovely.

Hotel was lovely but unfortunately nothing like the pictures on their web site the pool area is really dated chose this hotel for the spa facilities and there was no hot tub in use which was disappointing due to the money spent. Had to change room after first night of lack of sleep due to the bed spent the night in the middle as couldn’t get out of it. Would not come back in a hurry

If you want a quiet break avoid room 103 In the morning at 7am you are rudely awakened by delivery’s and staff outside your room window . Depending on who is in the room above you might hear the noise of a crowd of elephants ! No joke !

Bit of a mixed bag here. For first night given a room which on asking for upgrade was informed hotel too busy on our second nights’ booking so wasn’t possible. On getting to our given room for the two nights, happened to notice an unconnected electrical cable sticking out of wall just below heated towel rail and then became even more critical of this room. However, having been informed previously of no other available options, waited till next morning and, with a different receptionist on duty, asked again about change of room and pointed out the cable problem and two or three other problems encountered with the room and after some investigation another room was available on upgrade which we welcomed and took immediate advantage of. What a difference when we entered a lovely Junior Suite and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our stay at Thainstone.

Thainstone House is only half an hour’s drive away from Aberdeen but is such a relaxing place to stay! It has wonderful spa facilities, lots of cosy sitting areas and a great restaurant and bar. But for Phil and I, the best part of Thainstone House is the excellence of its staff - they really made us so very welcome and just went out of their way to ensure we had as comfortable a stay as possible. We only stayed one night and I was genuinely sad to leave - we will absolutely be coming back! Anne and Phil, Shetland

The staff were super helpful and attentive. Reception even lent us a UK phone charger since we didn’t have an adapter. We got there right before dinner and they made sure to get ready for us in the kitchen. The food was great and well priced and we even had a last minute change to the order they were able to accommodate. The building itself is gorgeous and we had fun exploring all the common spaces. I wish the fireplaces stayed lit past 8 but it’s understandable. The sauna was great after traveling and the steam room wasn’t too hot which was nice. They had closed the outdoor hot tub because it was so cold out, and we did wish the indoor hot tub were hotter, but the tub in our jr. suite made up for it well. In sum, everything we wished were different was perfectly reasonable as it was, and everything else was spectacular. We felt pampered and happy ☺️

They had closed the outdoor hot tub because it was so cold out, and we did wish the indoor hot tub were hotter, but the tub in our jr. suite made up for it well. In sum, everything we wished were different was perfectly reasonable as it was, and everything else was spectacular. We felt pampered and happy ☺️

Inexperienced/poorly trained staff (at check in and checkout, the staff members announced their newness and lack of familiarity with the hotel systems. Bit of a mixed bag here. For first night given a room which on asking for upgrade was informed hotel too busy on our second nights’ booking so wasn’t possible. On getting to our given room for the two nights, happened to notice an unconnected electrical cable sticking out of wall just below heated towel rail and then became even more critical of this room. However, having been informed previously of no other available options, waited till next morning and, with a different receptionist on duty, asked again about change of room and pointed out the cable problem and two or three other problems encountered with the room and after some investigation another room was available on upgrade which we welcomed and took immediate advantage of. What a difference when we entered a lovely Junior Suite and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our stay at Thainstone.

I can say the staff were always on hand, the price was very competitive and the location is perfect for relaxing or visiting Aberdeenshire. I would stay again, however i would not stay in the small room it was far to small for a coupleand our small dog and made the 4 nights stay very difficult. We decided to cut short our stay because the price difference between our room and upgrade was almost double. There are also a few things to be aware of dogs are not permitted in the restaurant, which is fair enough, so we drove to Inveruruie each morning for breakfast and eat out for all meals, however some guest did leave their pets in the room and we experienced barking which did set off others. Maybe this could be easily fixed, but we found out at checkout that we could have eaten in the bar area which had we known this and other guests, may have done? The pool and gym are good addition but small. As this is dog friendly your experience relys on other owners thoughtful and respect of other guests and there is plenty of grounds to excersise your pet. All in all this location is ideal for visits and good value, I,d recommend booking a larger room and speaking to the staff who will always speak to owners should they leave un attanded dogs in rooms,

The drive up to the property is absolutely stunning, a long path between trees, with wild rabbits in the grass to either side. Coming through to the other side there’s a large open field to the left and the property just ahead next to the free guest parking available. The staff member, Emma, who checked us in was a delight she spoke to us genuinely, not as if we were ‘just other guests.’ We were here to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary, so a personally written card and some tasty treats were left in the room for us. Overall we had a very pleasant nights stay, we didn’t actually make use of the facilities or many amenities, however I don’t doubt that these would have impressed if we made use of them. I would definitely recommend, and will likely stay again until the future.

We enjoyed our stay, but unfortunately we had 2 dogs outside our bedroom window barking in the evening and again in the morning. There were no rooms available that we could move to, so had to put up with it. Staff did try to find the owners and speak with them. Unfortunately, the coffee had run out in the bedroom, only one biscuit and no drinking water in our room, The spa pool is tired but still enjoyable. We missed being able to sit/lie in the pool area, but I suppose there’s not much space for chairs by the pool. We were disappointed hardly any drinks available beside the pool, also warm to drink. Breakfast was amazing!! We enjoyed a game of draughts, and the hotel itself is beautiful! Just such a shame we had such a noisy room.

The bed was so comfy. Thank you. The pool was tired, the lockers didn’t work, the restaurant was like faulty towers, to the point we walked out as the food was so late and disgusting when it arrived. We had order a takeaway. The positive was the amazing service from the receptionist on duty.

On this occasion I arrived close to the spa facilities closing but the lady on reception (an Irish accent) was really helpful and explained that it was ok to go in and she would keep it all open for another 15-20 minutes which was just enough time for me to relax and unwind after a hectic day. I stayed again 2 days later and arrived in plenty of time to really enjoy the facilities this time.
