Courtyard by Marriott Santa Monica

My family and I had a really nice stay at this establishment. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the fire pit and the hot tub on the second floor, and the clean and friendly lobby. It was very nice being able to text the valet to get out car ready for us before we were downstairs. I’ll definitely be back for Santa Monica trips.

This property is near the metro station and 5 - 8 mins walk to the beach. The hotel is clean, but it has limited dining. However, there are plenty of restaurants just 5 mins walk from it. During my stay, there was a strike going on by the housekeeping staff. This caused a lot of inconvenience as the striking workers were downstairs shouting slogans on loudspeakers from 7 AM to 10 PM. Additionally, the main entrance was locked by the hotel staff and the only way to enter was through the gate in front of valet parking. The hotel staff was very helpful and polite.

Great location just a couple of blocks from the pier and promenade. The hotel was really nice, clean, and modern with a unique colorful aesthetic. The room we stayed in was incredibly spacious and comfortable. The pool was a bit small, could easily get crowded. We would stay here again.

My stay was so not worth the amount of money I paid. The rooms were sterile and echoed due to the wood floors and high ceilings. The surrounding area was dirty-dirty and I felt unsafe walking to/from the hotel. The relaxation area with the fire pit near the pool was non operational. And the only food available was heated premade sandwiches and pastries from 5:30-11 pm. Parking is valet only and runs $55 a night, or you could park across the street in an unprotected lot surrounded by the homeless. Don’t waste your money and stay at the Hampton Inn up the street. Walked through and was a much better hotel….

Decent hotel, but for the price I paid I expected a little more. Bed was lumpy and uneven, pool and spa area was average, my rooms window was directly facing another rooms window so I had to keep the curtains closed or risk someone watching us. Parking is essentially valet only.

We had a great stay other than the pool was really cold.

the property is very nice and appears to have gone through a remodel sometime recently. The only issue with the Courtyard in Santa Monica is the parking charge at $50 a day. That could deter some from staying there. Having said that, the property is immaculately clean and the room was clean and upscale. Nice property overall.

The on-site parking valet service at the Courtyard in Santa Monica was terrific! The room was comfortable (great beds & pillows) and the bathroom was spotless. Very loud “thumping” noises from above us throughout our stay at all sorts of weird times. And the cafe was closed for breakfast on the first morning despite the prepaid charge.

The only bummer was paying $50 to valet our car overnight, otherwise it was great.

The room was clean, but it did have a lingering odor. It smelled like dirty water to be honest. We stayed for two night and the first night my husband did not get any sleep because the upstairs neighbors were moving things around all night. I also did not like the fact that there was no mini fridge. Other thank that staff was super friendly.

The housekeeping staff was on strike at the hotel. The management did not bother informing us before hand. Rooms were not cleaned the second night and it was blamed on the strike. Marriott points were rewarded as compensation. While we understand this was out of their control, they could have taken preemptive steps to ensure a smoother stay for guests. Valet Parking is also overpriced at $50 and cafe below has extremely limited options. Overall stay was not worth the cost of more than $400 per night.

Cleanest place ever! We always use cleaning wipes to clean the room and this time NO DIRT came up! Super clean and friendly staff too! Worth the money spent.

Only issue were the ants. Other than that was perfect.

The area around the property did not feel safe. Valet Parking in garage was expensive- only other option was to park on street. Our floor smelled like marijuana. Other than that, the property was newish and clean.

The hotel was clean, updated, and the staff provided excellent service!

Very clean and very convenient location. The room was spotless and so easy access to the beach and parking! Great experience.

No soundproofing at all, someone running and stomping and jumping a lot upstairs, also located right beside the trains, loud train noises and announcements 24/7. Rude front desk staff, no welcome instructions and no print resources in room re dining/hrs/amenities/snackbar, etc etc. Hot tub smells and has a dirty hue to it. 3 towels in the rooms for 2 adults?? Dirty carpets in halls.

Good clean property. Only issue is one side is facing the metro and there is a lot of noise from that station. Request a room not facing Colorado Ave/Metro to sleep better.

The person up above me was stomping around all night and morning, and I could barely sleep.

First, I must mention this is my first time traveling in 20+ years. I chose Courtyard by Marriott based on prior experience with the brand, but much has changed since then. Prior to arrival, I was not aware valet parking was pretty much mandatory, but that's on me. I should have done better research. The room was clean, with 1 king bed, an entertainment/desk/chair area, and a bright orange settee with metal table. The bathroom had a large shower. However, the lack of a shower seat and a door that was hard to push open/closed made it impossible for me to use. With a view directly on the spa area, the curtains remained closed at all times, making us feel closed in. The bed was so uncomfortable: under the thin pillow top was an overly firm mattress that caused pain on all pressure points. The fitted bottom sheet refused to stay in place, and the pillows were not supportive. The bed frame squeaked with the slightest movement. When the nearby fitness center was in use, the noise was loud within our room. Waterman's Café had seating for only 8 people at a time, limited hours, and limited staff, who were friendly but not always efficient. Healthy choices were greatly appreciated. Pets are merely tolerated at this hotel, with no facilities for dogs except a square of mulch in the sidewalk outside the building. Overall, the hotel was conveniently located, clean, and nicely decorated. The staff was friendly. Unfortunately, I do not plan to return for a future visit.

Unfortunately I didn’t have a great experience. I had a double queen room. Beds felt very soft and old. First night I had such a backache I switched to the other bed which was only slightly less soft. The softness is uneven and the bed had a concave half portion similar to what happens when mattresses wear down. Telephone in the room didn’t work. I also go an email while I was on the plane stating my card didn’t go thru and they were canceling my reservation. When I got to the hotel they had not canceled it, but I was told “oh that’s just our front desk, sometimes they send those emails out”. I used the same card when I got there with no issues so I worried for nothing. Hotel was right across from the metro station. Every time I left the hotel I was surrounded by houseless mentally unstable people. I’m no stranger to that population having lived in Portland but it left me so unsettled I couldn’t walk anywhere, had to keep taking Lyft rides to family events. For $350 a night I expect better. Most rooms/hotels I have stayed in for the same price are significantly nicer quality. Disappointing.

I had a double queen studio with balcony on Colorado. Very spacious. Even the balcony was large. The metro is extremely loud. A long with some unruly individuals using the metro. Hard wood floors are noisy and get dirty quickly. You can hear cleaning & movement above you. The bathroom fan doesn’t do a good job for humidity when showering.

Modern, spacious room with a decent shower and comfortable beds. I appreciated that the rooms had hard flooring instead of carpet. Valet parking sounds expensive at $55 a night but city parking was $40 and nearly two blocks away, so it might be worth the convenience to you. Close to the Pier and mall as well as a Trader Joe’s just across the street. My only gripe was the price.

Room was spacious, however, it’s located near a train station so all I heard was the train “ding dong, train, blah blah blah out of service” in the very early morning hours. There’s only valet parking available which is about $70 a day, I must’ve missed that in the small print. I needed to add a night to my stay and this hotel was sold out, so I stood at a local Gateway hotel, which was clean and comparable. That room was at a much lower rate with free *parking*, better water, pressure and a better working refrigerator.

We’ve been on an extended road trip mostly staying at Marriott properties. This hotel is the reason we won’t choose Marriott during the rest of our trip through CA. 1st thing to know - there’s no “partial ocean view.” You’ll be looking right at the rail depot. That brings up 2) They put earplugs and a chamomile teabag in our room. That’s because our balcony room was across from that train depot. 3) the receptionist was rude and ignored my requests during check in so we ended up in a lesser room than we paid for (we chose/pd for an upgraded room). We were assured it would be taken care of. It wasn’t. We never heard from anyone. 4) Upgraded room was average at best. 5) wouldn’t honor our Marriott rewards card because we reserved through Expedia. That’s literally never happened before. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hampton across the street. You’ll pay less for the same view and you’ll at least get a free breakfast.

Dont bother with the breakfast, microwave eggs and bacon not worth $13. Parking is $70 additional with nowhere near to park otherwise. Staff was rude. Homeless camp outside our bedroom window. YAY

Customer service was outstanding. Everyone at the front desk was kind and friendly and very helpful the entire stay.

Front desk gentlemen was terrible. He didn’t greet me for over 7 minutes. He wasn’t on the phone and no one was in line. It was just me standing there until I asked him if he was available to check me in. It was so disappointing and uncharacteristic for Marriott. It will definitely give me pause prior to ever booking one of their properties again.

Over all good experienced except the server in Waterman’s cafe , the lady server sounds so rude and not the friendliest person you wiill meet. Not very good and lacking customer service skill & i find her really rude when talking to a non english speaking person.

The housekeeping staff was on strike and pounded drums from 6 am until the evening. We had no warning from the hotel when I confirmed a few days before and no warning from Expedia, it was not cool. So we had to ask for anything we needed in our room, there was only 1 towel on arrival for a large 4 person room. The staff that were there were very pleasant and helpful. They were piecing it together. Did I mention the noise started at 6 am?! Plus, lots of homeless in Santa Monica, someone needed Narcan right outside our hotel room lobby. Security in the hotel made it feel safe inside but not outside. I would have appreciated the heads up about the strike.

The front desk was not very communicative and showed no sense of urgency checking us in, and trying to get us our room. In fact they checked us in after 4pm. While I saw ppl getting checked in at 3. I told the front desk that I wanted my car at 5am so we can leave immediately. Our check out date/morning, the valet guy was asleep and my jeep wasn’t ready.

I loved the easy access to the Santa Monica Pier. Do I g was in walking distract and transportation like the Metro, Big Blue Bus, scooters, bikes were easy to maneuver.

Good location to walk from - although a lot of homeless persons around. Very expensive parking … (60 usd plus tax plus tip) i would look for alternative hotels closer to promenade amd better parking

Location is convenient for shopping, dining, and spending time on beach.

Stayed w/friends for the USC vs MSU football game. It was a convenient location, close to great restaurants and the metro to easily get to and from LA Memorial Stadium. The buddy system is a must when walking around outside due to the large number of homeless people.

The hotel is nice. It’s not too far from the beach or Santa Monica pier- probably about 10-15 walk. There is lots of shopping right by. There is a Target right next door & a Trader Joe’s across the street.

The property itself was very clean and everyone was nice. There is a light rail station across from the balcony rooms that can be loud while sitting out there. Our room had a large gap under the door which allowed us to hear a late late night lovers quarrel in the hallway. The area around the hotel is a Santa Monica issue. Vagrants and homelessness is a serious problem giving the area dirty feel. Even with that is was fine walking to the pier, beach, restaurants and mall.

The staff was helpful and accommodating. Loved the proximity of hotel to the pier. However, the outside area is dirty and many homeless hanging around in the area.

The Hotel was clean and close to the pier (walking distance). However, the parking is Valet only and run by third party.it cost $46 a night to park. We could not use our Marriott Bonvoy benefits on the parking. The internet was down, and this was difficult with three special needs children. The dining is represented incorrectly. There is no dining just a small to go cafe that you order from. Mainly microwaved pre-made meals. We were a family of 5 and could not get a roll away bed. I asked for at least two blankets so we can sleep in the chair and they said they would have someone bring them to our room. After 3hrs I went down to the lobby to ask for blankets. At first I was told they had no extra blankets nor sheets and “sorry for the inconvenience “. I said that was unacceptable. I was told a manager would come to speak to me. After waiting 40mins a maid came down and said she delivered some blankets already. The manager never came to talk to me.

The properties OK. It’s very expensive and it says it has a restaurant but really they microwave/heat up prepackaged food.

The hotel and the rooms were exceptionally clean. I loved the murals in our room. The architecture and furniture in the lobby was very interesting with lots of areas to sit and talk. The cafe food was delicious. We had a great stay for our 56th wedding anniversary!

Parking was expensive. No options other than to park at the hotel via valet. The TV in our room wouldn’t even turn on. And there’s no real dining options aside from a small and limited starbucks satellite location. I was supposed to be gifted points to my Marriott Account for the inconvenience of the television, but that never showed up.

Nice and clean place to stay. Room service should be open for extended hours to provide late food service for the guests.

I liked the short walk to the pier, many shopping stores and walkable area. What I didn’t like was the outside wasn’t safe after dark, and the limited options for dining in the hotel.

Nice room . Only thing I didn't care for was the 52$ dollar parking fee. Do yourself a favor and park right behind the hotel for 10$ unless money is no object. Short walking distance to pier. Great location. Loved the fresh fruit and lemon water in the morning. The waterman's cafe is more like a small Starbucks.
