Good breakfast and coffee, very friendly staff. A well kept clean spacious room, with a great sized bed, comfy pillows and excellent bedding. Quiet air conditioning and two ceiling fans. Powerful shower. Good location. I'm a light sleeper and would recommend earplugs as there is some road and mosque noise or from Majestic if an event is on. The atrium area is a lovely peaceful retreat, comfy seating.

Multiple weeks spent here in May 2023. Room was a top floor spacious room with a king size bed with lots of pillows. Lots of staff serving the hotel and they were frequently cleaning the common areas while another crew cleaned the guest rooms. Everything was well maintained and kept neat and tidy. I appreciated the 24 hour front desk staffing and they all spoke english. Each room has its own temperature control unit and you adjust it to your liking. Hot water in the shower and sink was never a problem. Hotel is on a quiet, one block long, one-way street so I didn’t notice any continuous traffic noise. The hotel is in easy walking distance to the core of UNESCO Heritage Georgetown and there are many, many food stalls and restaurants and market places within a ten minute walk Komtar is a five minute walk away. The Rapid Penang free CAT bus has a stop one block away. Great place to stay and highly recommend Areca especially if this is your first visit to Georgetown.

Ein sehr schönes Hotel mit großen Zimmern und sehr freundlichem Personal. In der Lobby steht ein Wasserspender. Die Zimmer werden täglich mit 2x 0,5 L Wasserflaschen aufgefüllt. Am Nachmittag gibt es einen kleinen Gratissnack. Frühstück wid für 30 MYR pro Person angeboten. In der Nähe sind viele Möglichkeiten zum essen. Auch en Markt ist um die Ecke.

Comdy beds and pillows, loved the shower head also. Strong and good temperature that is adjustable. Aircon and fan strong. 1 narrow stairway and 1 lift which has a limit of 4 ppl max and moves really slowly. Other than that, great rooms and lovely staff and service.

The hotel is amazed with Peranakan decor in modern settings. Bright and airy. Our rooms are big and spacious. The only problem I faced are steps to the bathroom. Good that the hotel has an “antique” glass lift that moves slowly. It serves clients like me who can’t climb up and down the stairs. Maybe should consider to have another lift just in case the one and only lift breaks down. Thank you to the management for the extra high tea treats. Very generous portion.

Very aesthetically appealing property with tastefully decorated rooms. Very comfy bed and great shower. Very friendly and service minded staff. There were only 2 negative points and only 1 of those points is within the control of the hotel. They are, the toilet drains leaked into the courtyard area on a couple of occasions making sitting in the courtyard unpleasant, but the staff did try to minimise the effects by diverting the overflow to another drain and using copious amounts of disinfectant. The other point was the noise from the nearby Mosque at 5 minutes to 6am every day

We are 2 senior adults from Australia who recently stayed 4 nights at Areca Hotel, Penang. The location was very central and easy to find. The rooms were spacious and clean. The shower was hot and plenty of water. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Beautiful clean hotel - lovely design and furniture throughout. Very large rooms, ok breakfast. Liked that bottled water was provided and water plentiful around the hotel. Afternoon tea was a nice treat in the afternoons. Great location - easy to walk everywhere. Only complaints would be the room always smelt musky - like it needed fresh air. And the hotel is next to an event space so it can be loud in the evenings from the event music and from event staff packing up after the event. During our stay there were 2 events on. Overall, I would recommend.

Room is a little old. Water heater is working too well. ( Btw I wanted cold water and water came out hot :P) Bed linen had stains. Air con was rather noisy so we use the ceiling fan often. Love the location of the property! Walking distance to department store as well as food stalls & market. The staff there were friendly and helpful. There's the complimentary simple tea break which is much appreciated. On the whole, we enjoyed our 5day stay. Will not hesitate to return.

The room isn’t soundproof. You can hear the call to prayer in the mornings and the cafe below. Not a terrible issue, it adds to the charm of the place but worth knowing ahead of time to set expectations right. Would stay again but in a quieter end of the hotel

Friendly, helpful staff & a well maintained boutique hotel that has old world charm. We had the attic room which was spacious & well furnished. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioning powerful especially with an additional ceiling fan. The shower was wonderfully strong. The amenities were basic but adequate. The best part of our stay was the iced, flavored water freely available in the lobby for guests. It was especially nice after walking in the warm outdoors. A nice touch of complimentary afternoon tea with a few tasty nibbles. We would definitely stay here again.

The room was lovely, the bed was comfortable but most importantly, the ceiling fan with the ac unit made it one of the best rooms we have had in the region. The shower is also fantastic.

Really great location in Georgetown,characterful heritage room, really spacious with wardrobe, iron, and two bottles of mineral water provided daily,and fridge.Excellent AC AND ceiling fan, a nice sitting area for guests and helpful,friendly staff-special mention to Nasrin for welcoming me and help throughout stay. Only downside is a little bit of street noise, but I'd definitely stay here again.

Pros: Centrally located in the city. Walking distant ( literally across the street) to many famous food stalls. Polite and helpful staff. Fairly painless check in and quick checkout. Free wi fi. Free afternoon tea between 3 and 5pm daily. Steps away from the city free bus stop. You can take this bus to visit most of the attraction in downtown. Cons: Because of its location, it can be noisy 24/7 ( they are aware of this and they are ready to provide earplugs upon request). One side of the hotel faces a banquet hall. So it can be very noisy during weekends. No ventilation fan in the washroom. Toilet paper is a bit thin. Not comfortable to use. The bed mattress was sagging in many places. We live in two different rooms and they're both like that. The lighting in the room was dim. I was having difficult time looking clearly at myself when shaving.

However, a week was a little too long in this style of accommodation with no windows in the room. There were only dark wood shutters that opened to bars on the outside, which seems typical in the historic shop house design. The area is filled with history and it was very easy to get to the various points of interest. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. One note: of the 7 nights we stayed there the Majestic theatre across the street hosted two events in a row on a weekend. It was very noisy as we had read it could be in another review, so we were okay with it (headphones worked great)! Also, the noise stopped promptly around midnight. The other 5 nights it was super quiet as it often was during the day. All in all, it was great for the price point. The staff here are excellent people. Nice. There was a rock concert across the street and I asked if we could move rooms to back and they accommodate. We loved our stay at Areca, we had a room on the ground floor and it was sheer luxury, spacious, beautiful tiles on the floor, high ceiling, lovely period furniture, fans and air conditioner and a shower that was truly magnificent. We loved the afternoon teas and all the delights that were served. Your staff are extremely polite and courteous. We stayed for a week and would be happy to return. Thank you Areca.

Really great location in Georgetown,characterful heritage room, really spacious with wardrobe, iron, and two bottles of mineral water provided daily,and fridge.Excellent AC AND ceiling fan, a nice sitting area for guests and helpful,friendly staff-special mention to Nasrin for welcoming me and help throughout stay. Only downside is a little bit of street noise, but I'd definitely stay here again.

Sehr gute Wahl um Penang zu erkunden. Ein überaus freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Die Einrichtung war schön und versprühe Nostalgie. Die Betten waren toll und sehr bequem. Das Frühstück im Areca Café war vielfältig und von guter Qualität, ebenso liebevoll angerichtet. Wir würden wieder hier unseren Aufenthalt buchen.

Overall this hotel was great. Staff was wonderful. Only reason why we didn’t give 5* was we had an early morning flight and the room lights are controlled so no ability to get ready with lights. We had to use the lights on our phones. The power works but the main lights in the room don’t. Mildly annoying but manageable.

Everyone was very kind and concerned about our experience. The hotel is beautiful and located on the edge of the historic area. The rooms are comfortable. They serve an amazing breakfast and tea. When on the first day, restaurant staff learned I was a vegetarian, they went and made special food for me! Then, afterwards they checked in with me to make sure I had a good selection. Quite amazing. A wonderful choice in Penang.
