We regard this place as our home-from-home, as we stay quite often. We always receive a warm welcome from the friendly and helpful staff. Our room was comfortable and clean, the restaurant menu is varied and the on-site parking is convenient .

We're a group of 6 America women on vacation. Red Lion Inn is a quaint hotel with spaceous, clean rooms. Be prepared for stairs. There is no lift. There is also no air conditioning. Fortunately, the windows open and there was a fan. Fareham is a beautiful city. Easy to walk and explore. Would love to go again!

Large pub and restaurant with a good number of rooms. On site parking (which guests don't pay for, register your car at hotel reception). Room was comfortable, but hot (a fan was provided). Breakfast was good, though the staff were under pressure because most guests seemed to arrive around 8.15am on Saturday and expected to be immediately seated. I'd suggest checking with Reception on breakfast patterns if you are in a hurry. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I slept well. I thought it might be noisy with our window open but it was surprising quiet. Parking was pay on arrival but you can give your car registration to the hotel reception and that allows you to park foc during your stay.

The car parking is free, don’t use the park and pay machine; the sign is misleading. You can get your money back (I haven’t managed), it’s hard to speak to a person from Britannia parking!

Bathroom was nothing short of a disgrace. The last person's Toothpaste all over the taps and generally unclean. The shower also floods, and the flush barley works. Looked like something from the 70's. Silicon about 2" wide

Had a lovely stay. Nothing was too much trouble for staff. Worked around my dairy intolerance provided me with soya milk so I could have a hot drink in my room. We opted for continental breakfast which was lovely and lots to choose from we didn’t have any hot food but seeing others plates being bought out it did look lovely. Bed was amazing and so comfortable bathroom was spotless as was the whole room.

This coaching inn needs a complete refurbishment. The decor is tired and very old. For example when putting a mug on the bedside table the varnish is so old and tacky the mug stuck and needed removing using two hands. Bathroom and fittings are old, carpet in the bedroom stained in places. No table mats to protect the furniture from staining hence lots of marks from previous guests. The staff were very pleasant in the bar and dining room. We had the room above the bar and were able to hear the music until 11 at night and from 7 am in the morning. The price for two nights had been raised obviouslydue to the Goodwood festival of speed most of the guests we met were attending. Over £150 per night! Way over the usual rate!

We stayed in the family room in the attic it was alright but wouldn’t rush back, our double bed was comfy but boys beds were very hard, it was clean but very very dated lighting was very poor, tv very small, no lifts and getting big heavy suitcases up all them stairs was a struggle. But the town was nice canny few pubs in town

Good free parking when registered as a guest. Nice breakfast with a la carte and buffet included. Reception staff very helpful with booking tas. Room a little small compared to some other hotels we have stayed in and dates but McLean and comfortable. Two flights of stairs were a surprise but we did not specify a lower floor

Nice clean room, decent size bed for a single room, bed was very comfy. Only point to note was the sash window only opened a couple of inches and wouldn’t stay open so it got a tad warm

I booked multiple rooms for a week for work and all the rooms were very very tired. The pub itself is okay but the rooms are definitely in need of upgrading. The bathrooms havent been touched since the 50's

My room was over the reception area and we were crept awake by being able to hear conversations in this area, also after eventually getting some little sleep being woken again early morning with the same problem. The bed was also to small and on my side the mattress collapsed if you got to near the edge which was mealy all the time because of the bed being to narrow.

This is an older premises, so the decor and condition reflect that. I stayed in room 9, the bed was a bit too soft for me and the height on the shower head could not be changed (too low for me). Otherwise the room was okay. Staff friendly and helpful. Free parking in car park at rear.

Reception were very welcoming and check in was quick. Full details of breakfast options available provided but we were leaving earlier than breakfast commenced so didnt use. Bedroom was spacious for the 3 of us, 2 adults and a teenager. Room/bathroom was dated and could have done with a freshen up, but not too much of an issue as we only slept and showered at property. Food available in bar or restaurant but not that cheap - £55 - 85 for 3 with a drink. Typical mass produced pub food. Chicken and ham pie was good, and bacon cheese burger. Lasagne wasn't great in size and taste. Most places Lasagne is like lava in terms of heat but this was only warm.

Comfortable stay. The only problem was the shower leaking all over the bathroom floor. It was on a solid bar and not adjustable. Tried everything with the shower curtain to keep the floor protected. I think because the show rail is straight and doesn’t curve round the end of the bath, this causes the problem.

As I approached the Red Lion, I was put off by the shabby state of the exterior. However, upon arrival, I was greeted by a charming Receptionist and was advised that I had been upgraded. My room, however, seemed to be the standard room for a Greene King hotel. Unfortunately, the room was roasting hot when I arrived; a small table fan was provided but it did little to cool or move the air. The bar area was very busy with all the tables taken up by customers. After an excessive wait to buy a drink, I enquired about a table to be informed that the restaurant was reserved for the quiz! A strange decision to give priority to quizzers over diners. The rather rude Restaurant Manager and her flippant manner told me that I had to find a table in the bar and so, inconsiderately, I jumped on to a table for 6 as it became free just to have somewhere to eat! The food was awful! The salmon fishcakes had soaked up the oil and had started to beak up. The poached egg was uncooked with runny white and the tasteless Hollandaise sauce bore no reference to the classic accompaniment! Breakfast was well arranged and well managed by 2 older ladies. My assessment of the Red Lion Hotel is that it could do a lot better and the Restaurant and Bar staff need training in customer service. Unlikely to return.

Perfect stay, the staff are absolutely wonderful and breakfast was AMAZING. Coffee was great. Room had a bathtub which wasn’t mentioned on the room listing, and after a 12 hour journey this was such a nice surprise. I’d recommend and will definitely stay here again :)

Loved my stay here. The staff were by far the best thing about this place. The staff are a little bit older than you would usually see. They were so polite and attentive and seemed to genuinely care about you and what you were doing. Food was fantastic. I only knocked down the score as the bathroom was pretty run down however it was very clean. Will definitely be back here.

There are 3 Adults Myself and 2 young ladies with LD I cannot fault the staff Everyone was very friendly and very helpful Our family room was very nice and big with a big bathroom Beds were comfortable the only negative was it was the room was cold but the temperature outside was very cold so it didn't help. We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent Breakfast was included in our stay Which again was excellent Definitely recommend

Receptionist was great. Really helpful and attentive. Parking is a real bonus and transport links are good as the train station is a short walk away. Unfortunately on the second night and the second morning for breakfast our experience was not as good. We returned to the hotel to have a night cap and we found the young lady on the bar quite rude. We understood that last orders are called at 22.55 and that you have to sit in reception from 23.15. Bring rushed to shut the till off is not great from a customer service point of view. Breakfast on the Sunday morning was a bit of a miss than a hit. The sausages were cold in the middle and the tomato missed the grill. Not a fan of mushrooms frozen or tinned and not pan fried as described. These slight blemishes on our stay would not put us off going back though and our room was all fine.

In the centre of Fareham with ample free parking for guests. An older property with first class service. A big shout out to the breakfast staff who were excellent. Food for evening meal was well priced and good quality. Breakfast was included in my room rate and there was an excellent choice from Full English through to scrambled egg and smoked salmon, even a vegan choice. Rooms were clean and practical with a comfortable bed. A comfortable well run hotel with professional staff who obviously take pride in their work.

This hotel has been known to 4 generations of my family and I wanted to experience it and Fareham for myself. The hotel was great - and the range of breakfast items and friendly attentiveness of the breakfast staff was exceptional. The hotel is well placed for Fareham centre.

The staff was excellent. The room I had was very dated, but clean. Again the bathroom was a bit dated and could have had a shaving mirror. The shower is very strong and loads of very hot water. The breakfast was excellent and very filling.

As I approached the Red Lion, I was put off by the shabby state of the exterior. However, upon arrival, I was greeted by a charming Receptionist and was advised that I had been upgraded. My room, however, seemed to be the standard room for a Greene King hotel. Unfortunately, the room was roasting hot when I arrived; a small table fan was provided but it did little to cool or move the air. The bar area was very busy with all the tables taken up by customers. After an excessive wait to buy a drink, I enquired about a table to be informed that the restaurant was reserved for the quiz! A strange decision to give priority to quizzers over diners. The rather rude Restaurant Manager and her flippant manner told me that I had to find a table in the bar and so, inconsiderately, I jumped on to a table for 6 as it became free just to have somewhere to eat! The food was awful! The salmon fishcakes had soaked up the oil and had started to beak up. The poached egg was uncooked with runny white and the tasteless Hollandaise sauce bore no reference to the classic accompaniment! Breakfast was well arranged and well managed by 2 older ladies. My assessment of the Red Lion Hotel is that it could do a lot better and the Restaurant and Bar staff need training in customer service. Unlikely to return.

An unexpectedly better than average stay and very good value for money. The room was larger than average with a comfortable bed and enjoyed a quiet night's sleep 😊 The breakfast was well worth £10.50pp, cooked to order and delicious. And have to mention the waitresses who were particularly pleasant, efficient and helpful. Would certainly recommend.

Receptionist was great. Really helpful and attentive. Parking is a real bonus and transport links are good as the train station is a short walk away. Unfortunately on the second night and the second morning for breakfast our experience was not as good. We returned to the hotel to have a night cap and we found the young lady on the bar quite rude. We understood that last orders are called at 22.55 and that you have to sit in reception from 23.15. Bring rushed to shut the till off is not great from a customer service point of view. Breakfast on the Sunday morning was a bit of a miss than a hit. The sausages were cold in the middle and the tomato missed the grill. Warm welcome. It was a very short stay - the room we stayed in was rather tired - dripping taps, holes in linens, dodgy paintwork etc - if it had been any more than one night, I think I would have been a bit miffed.
