Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Hotel its self was ok nice and grand but could do with some work as it was quite run down in area's. Pool or the "spa" as it was called needed some maintenance lots of staining to the pool tiles and cracks to the rocks in the pool. Very overun it could maybe do with a limit on people allowed in at once. The main disappointment was the evening meal in the what looked like the fancy restaurant on site. The service was absolutely abysmal. We waited almost 20 minutes to order drinks which then took ans age to arrive. We then waited in total an hour for starter's to arrive. The starters were overpiced and under performed on taste and quality. It was £12.50 for 2 small squares of belly pork which were nothing special. The waiter came to clear the starters and asked if we would like deserts but we hadn't even got our main courses yet. We waited a while for mains and then were asked if we'd got them yet and then were asked what we'd ordered almost like the staff had no idea what was going on. Mains arrived and the waiter didnt even know what was on the plate. Mains were definitely on the plates and under a heat lamp as the mashed potatoes had a skin on top. Lamb was ok but again absolutely tiny in size for the price payed. I could have accepted small portions if the quality blew me away but unfortunately it was mediocre food at extortionate pricing. All in all a poor place and definitely wont be back unless serious changes are made to the whole venue and service.

Fantastic night stay on our travels. Swimming pool / spa was lovely, our son had a fab time and we had pockets of relaxing in the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi! Room was comfortable, quiet and clean. Breakfast was great and all staff were friendly and helpful. Gutted we do not live closer but will be back whenever we are in the area next! Wished we had known about the activity centre onsite before our stay - alloutadventures.co.uk as we may have booked our son for the quad biking. My only negative point is the cocktails are not made fresh but out of a bottle!

Hotel is stunning and in a beautiful location. Check in queue took around 20 mins to get through but otherwise pleasant. Room was on floor1, room was nice but no fridge as stated ! This needs to be known for those who carry insulin pens and need to store them in the fridge or other medication that requires refrigeration.The bed was big and comfortable. No glasses in the bathroom so nothing to rinse with after brushing. Decor was dated and a lot of cobwebs around the ceiling. Otherwise all clean and daily housekeeping was good. Ample parking but a hill to walk up to get to the hotel but you can drop your luggage/guests off at the main entrance which looks amazing. The spa was full when we used it on the first day and lots of kids in the pool and running around so it was not really spa like being there, lovely looking spa but we only spent an hour in there as we had enough of kids jumping in the pool and running around we could not relax plus no seating so had no choice but to be in the pool or stand against the wall. This being said there is a time that kids have to be out by at 7pm but that was late for us to be going to the spa. Maybe a separate kids and adults area as this was very un spa like especially when your moto for the spa is to “escape the noise”. The spa juice bar was also not serving they stated that we had to use the main bar at the other side of the hotel which is not convenient when you want a drink and are wearing a bikini and towel. Breakfast was amazing A*

Beautiful grounds with amazing views. Lovely facilities which were clean - the gym and pool were both really clean and well equipped and maintained. The room was comfortable (a few signs of use but nothing major) and clean, a good size and importantly very quiet - had an excellent couple of nights sleep. Breakfast was a buffet which was good but the hot food had been standing for some time as eggs were a bit rubbery and hard although the fried bread was delicious and the selection of fruit, breads and other baked good was excellent. We walked around the grounds on the way-marked trails. We think some of the way markers were missing so had a few areas where we got lost (we did the orange, red and purple walks). On the orange walk in particular orange triangles rather than arrows were used and it was sometimes difficult to work out where to go and on three occasions the path was quite overgrown (totally impassable in one instance so we had to work a way around). That said they were lovely walks - our Garmin watches both measured them as longer than stated. One huge point for us was being able to take our dog and to take him around most areas of the hotel (only the restaurant out of bounds which is absolutely fine as we ate in the bar area). He was welcomed and had a treat and lots of fuss and this really made our stay, thank you!

We have just had a brilliant weekend at slaley hall golf and spa.Everything was fantastic food drinks room and facilities. The only downside is the driveway into the hotel from the main road.This needs addressing asap as it’s the worst bit of road I have ever driven on.Please make note. Thanks

The room was beautifully clean and spacious. The bed was harder than usual. The swimming area was fantastic, very busy on a sat we had to wait about 30 mins. Sunday the spa was very quiet which was great! The restaurant was a disappointment, ordered lamb pie and it was pure fat. It took an hour to arrive so the offer to cook another meal was not an option I wanted to take as I was past being hungry. The pub restaurant down stairs was grubby and unclean, it put us off eating there. There were many rooms to have a drink, perhaps some board games in these rooms would be a good idea. The breakfast was lovely, really enjoyed it. I would return again but not dine in. It is worth a visit just for the spa experience, maybe not on a sat but definitely on a sunday.

Major issue with spa. Too many people, max of 65 at any one time and hotel was full No booking system So once people in, no time restrictions and then back log Very disappointed and upset children as a result as had been looking forward to using pool facilities

The bath robe in the room was dirty and had a vape in the pocket. TV in the room didn't work. Other than that room was lovely, the staff were very helpful and the breakfast was tasty. The pool facilities were spotless and the hot tub and sauna were very relaxing.

The property and service staff were great. Massively overflowing garbage cans in the parking area had birds scattering stuff everywhere.

Clean room, although it smelled like damp slightly and there were flies in the bathroom. The hotel itself was lovely and the dinner and breakfast was very good.

The room was large & clean. Freeview on tv but no apps available. We had a couple of issues. Service at evening meal wasn't great. The waiter struggled to take the order. Said it was new equipment. If so training before service would have made for a more professional experience. I opted for the lamb rump which tasted as if it had been rolled in flour not cooked out. A very odd taste & texture. Noone came to check if our meals were ok. The manager came to ask if we wanted dessert as he could see we had been waiting a while. The waiter then tried to take our drinks before we had finished. The next morning at breakfast I had to ask 3 different members of staff for a teabag & wait about 15 minutes before I got one. Possibly because they were a little short on staff. The cooked breakfast was ok. I liked that you could order eggs or pancakes. We enjoyed a swim in the pool & made use of the sauna before we left. Our bathroom was a little tired. We had quite a deep bath with the shower over it which may have posed problems for those less mobile. I would've preferred a walk in shower. The room was at the end of the corridor which was quiet however the view was over a flat roof so no scenery to admire unfortunately.

It felt like we'd been given the 'room of last resport', at the back end of the hotel - overlooking the golf course BUT over the roof of a large outbuilding, and a little smaller than standard. Air conditioning was loud. Claret Jug restaurant was closed for Winter, which we had not been told about in advance. Staff were friendly. Breakfast could have been better. Disabled parking spaces were very limited, and difficult to get.

Room was a little tired but the best pillows and duvet we’ve had in a long time!

Mostly very nice , however my room had what I would describe as two large single beds as opposed to one double. I ceramic did not order a twin room.

Very friendly and attentive staff were a pleasure to interact with. Room was lovely, comfortable and clean. Food in the bar area was very good and reasonably priced .

Breakfast was chaotic. As advised by the hotels we went down around 9am, when it would be quieter. Kindest way to describe it is that the staff were overwhelmed and unable to keep up with demand. No cups or plates available, a number of key items on the hot breakfast had run out (sausages, hash browns), bread for toast was slow in being replenished. Wardrobe doors in one of our rooms (246) was stuck so we were unable to access the safe.

Comfortable but a bit dated decor. Long drive up to hotel with numerius potholes which dosnt give a goid imoression. But overall comfortable and quiet.

We booked 2 rooms .our room the shower tap broke off in my hand meaning we couldn’t switch the water off making us over an hour and a half late for evening meal as we had to change rooms meaning we had to pack and in pack again . Our friends room the tv didn’t work and they had no Bose music station as advertised . Breakfast none off the coffee stations were working no muffins left. All in all a very poor experience and we reported this to reception on check out but the were just not interested and didn’t even apologise .

Hotel was nice and room very nice and clean. Dinner took 2 hours to arrive and some meals were cold. Very poor kitchen service

We have stayed at Slaley Hall a few times and always enjoyed our time there, it is our 'go to' place for a mini break. The Spa is very relaxing and the treatments/therapists are excellent. The staff on reception, the dining room and bars are all friendly, welcoming and willing to help. Big shout out to Marcus on reception who kindly offered to help get our bags from the car as my husband has mobility problems. Thank You , we will be back :)

Our stay overall was OK but just a few things to mention. Our room could have done with extra pillows. We only had one each and there were no glasses for a drink of water. Unfortunately, we had noisy guests in the room next to us who were talking until late which kept me awake. However, we appreciate this was not your fault. Unfortunately, at breakfast the coffee machine was broken and there was no hot water for tea so we went without. And just one last feedback suggestion - there was a lengthy queue at checkout time so we just left our key on the desk as we had to rush off - maybe a place to hand keys in without having to queue? Apologies for the above but hopefully, these comments are helpful.

We arrive half hour before check-in and the room was not available. We went to check in after 3pm and the room was still not ready, I had a very active 4 year old and a 14 year old with disabilities both very keen to go swimming, so asked them to call me when we could check in, we did not receive a call so went to reception at 4.30 pm and was given the room key. I did have a brief word with the duty manager as I felt that the delay should not have happened, who apologised. The hotel were given the children's ages at booking therefore the room allocation should have been prioritised. Once settled we enjoyed the rest of our stay and the food was outstanding.

The staff were outstanding. They went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. From the reception staff, management, restaurant and cleaning stuff, all of them worked very hard and were very compassionate and professional when my father took ill during our stay. We can’t thank them enough. The hotel and surroundings are beautiful.

Extremely let down by restaurant, which overshadowed what was otherwise a lovely stay. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a great pool area, comfortable rooms, and genuinely helpful reception staff who couldn’t be faulted. Unfortunately, the restaurant was a complete disappointment and left us with a very negative impression of the hotel overall. We sat down for dinner at 7:15 with our daughter, but it took almost 50 minutes just to get our drinks, despite asking multiple times. Even worse, our food didn’t arrive until 9:50—over 2 hours and 45 minutes later. By then, our daughter was absolutely starving. We weren’t the only ones either—the family seated next to us had children who actually fell asleep at the table while waiting. It was clear that larger groups arriving after us were being prioritised, which was incredibly unfair and unacceptable. To make matters worse, when our daughter’s dessert finally came, the donuts were microwaved, rock hard, and completely inedible. Overall, the restaurant service was shocking and left a bitter taste, which is such a shame given how good the rest of the hotel is.

Reception was fairly busy and nothing was really explained, our room had a free mini bar that we were unaware of until we found out by chance. When we got to our room there were piles of dirty laundry near our door, this seemed a regular occurrence. The menu in reception was different to the actual restaurant which was disappointing given the price. The guy on reception at the restaurant was not welcoming at all. Some staff really busy while others stood chatting. Our room card wouldn't open the door so we had to go back to reception, no apology just "there you go". Pool is ok but could do with updating. Cleaning staff were very friendly and couldn't fault them at all they were always busy. I don't normally leave poor reviews and the hotel is nice enough but for the price i think you expect everything to be perfect. Some staff were brilliant and some lacked any interest in the customer whatsoever which was our main issue, we have stayed in cheaper hotels with friendlier more helpful staff.

Right from the friendly welcome by Tom, my stay was fantastic. I was travelling myself with 2 young children for a family funeral in the area. All the staff were friendly and very good with the children. They were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. We enjoyed a meal in the evening. Good choice for adults and children. We also all enjoyed the buffet breakfast too.

Check in was a nightmare, room was not ready until 4.15pm, we did receive a complimentary drink voucher, which the bar staff did allow us a drink each even though 1 voucher. The spa was full of kids so unusable ( note to self don’t go school holiday times). I was brought the wrong order at dinner, the staff member apologised (apparently there was also a set menu I was given that chicken by mistake!) he took it straight away and came back with my order which was cold but tasty. Breakfast was lovely and are overall stay was very enjoyable.

Property was a bit difficult to locate but, once located, it was very nice. Particularly enjoyed the pool area after a day of driving.

An excellent hotel with great facilities. We were given adjoining rooms. That were well furnished. The staff were friendly and attentive. And the grounds were beautiful.

Very nice place, good rooms and spa. Breakfast was very good along with the service. Unfortunately afternoon tea and evening meal was not great. Afternoon tea looked like a shop brought scone warmed up but so was the cream which came as a puddle and when we asked for some more cream it all ended up being dropped over us, and then issues with the soup so we asked for a refund and got one. The service took forever both lunch and dinner. We would stay again as such a nice place but we will be sticking to breakfast only.

Long queue when checking in waited almost an hour!. Poor meal in evening, basically microwaved pie with spoon full of mash, 2 carrots £18? Breakfast poor, not very hot and not much choice. Corridor very noisy upto about 11,30pm. Spa was full so had to go on waiting list!

Parking was far from hotel and a little inconvenient as we had several suitcases. Bar was great and so was their menu - ate dinner in dining room which was very disappointing. "Crispy" pork belly was under cooked and all fat and no meat.
